Pdf file on website won't print now.  Settings?

I've not had any problems, until now, printing pdf files from many websites.  However, problems have come up.
I am told I had a virus affecting some of my accounts and Systweak Advanced Systems Optimizer, my protection sofware provider, adamantly denies a virus.  Anyway, they made some changes in some settings and I wonder if they may have interfered with Adobe Reader (Latest version installed.)
It seems to affect multiple websites, at least three different ones just now.
Anyway, where do I start?
Oldern

Many thanks to Olderns for spending time with us and giving us remote access to his machine to debug this problem.  This turned out to be a registry setting related to IE...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\TabProcGrowth = 0
This is a setting was introduced with IE8 to control how many tab processes were created.  IE8 has a default algorithm (when the registry key is not present) that limits the number of tab processes based on available RAM.  Separate tab processes arecreated in order to sandbox 3rd extensions, i.e. to isolate them from the main IE process and other extensions, but IE8 does not create a process per tab as IE10 does because of performance considerations that were more relevant in the IE8 timeframe.  IE8 also has a 32-bit parent IE process while IE10 has a 64-bit parent process.
So, while it made some sense to tell IE8 to not create any tab processes and run everything in the parent, this does not work well in IE10 which always has a 64-bit parent process (even if you run the 32-bit version) and therefore cannot load 32-bit extensions, Reader in this case.
While we don't know how this situation came about on the user's system, we suspect that it was either caused by a virus or by a system performance tool that might have made this change to try to make IE faster, something that might have made sense for IE8 but not for IE10.
If you encounter this problem, the solution is to remove the afformentioned registry setting and then close all IE processes and restart IE.  However, only make this if you are comfortable using regedit to change registry settings because some registry settings (not this one) can create serious problems on a Windows system including causing it to no longer boot.  Also, I would highly recommend creating a restore point before making any changes to your registry.  Do this in the System control panel > Advanced System Settings > System Protection > Create... This will give you something that works to go back to if you somehow make a fatal change to your registry.

  • Opening pdf files on websites to fill them in on the website

With my iMac I can open and fill in all pdf files from websites using OSX 10.6.5.  On my macbook pro using 10.7.5  or later safari will no longer open pdf files on websites and just gives you a blank black page.  I use these all the time on sites from the IRS or other taxing agencies and fill in the forms and save them or print them.  I have not upgraded my OS on my desktop because of this.  Why is this happening and how do I fix it if it can be fixed.  I talked to someone at applecare and they said the fuctionality was no longer in the operating system to do this and I can only download the pdf files.  That is not sufficient because these are fillable forms on their websites.  All businesses use this function and if apple really wants people to use their computers for business I would hope that their not so monumentally stupid as to write this out of the newer OS.  HELP

Try another browser such as Firefox until this gets sorted out.

  • Unable to download pdf files from websites

For a month now I have been unable to dowload PDF Files from websites.
I have un-installed Adobe Software & re-installed hoping this would solve
this on going problem. But I am afraid it has not this problem seems to
have accured since the latest up date of Sarfari I trust Apple are coming up with
some sort of solution to this current problem ??

Far as I know the problem isn't on Apple's end. I'm download PDF files with no problem. But I've experienced what you are in the past and I think you were on the right track when you suspected Adobe. In the main Library folder (not the one in your personal directory) there's a folder called Internet Plugins. Look inside for a file called AdobePDFViewer and delete it. If I remember properly, you force Adobe Reader to install a new one by just starting Reader and it will ask if you want to install the PDF reader. Or, you might want to look at this plugin which, in my opinion, beats Adobe's plugin hands down.

  • PDF files scanned at B & W print to an HP 2055dn Postscript printer as white on black

PDF files scanned at B & W print to an HP 2055dn Postscript printer as white on black. Non postscript printers print the same file correctly. This is the case with three different scanners. Scanning the same sheets into greyscale prints fine with all printers.
HP claims it is not a problem with their printers. Someone from Fujitsu (makers of Scansnap) said to "
Verify that Advance Emit Transfer (print correction function for the Mac print table) is unchecked. Go to Print > Advanced Emit Transfer Function and click to uncheck. " but I can't seem to find anything like that at all.
I really prefer to scan in B & W, as I have to scan several hundred pages and the resulting file is both smaller and higher quality than the grayscale files, but I can't print them at home; I have to use the printer at work and that really isn't appropriate.

    Hi,
Can you try some experiments please - or tell us if you have tried them.
    1) Load a new image (one that hasn't been saved before) into the editor and without saving it, try printing from the editor. It is important that PSE hasn't saved it.
    2) Load any image into the editor and do a Save for Web (you may have to reduce the size) in JPG format and see if you can print that JPG either from PSE or another program.
Please let us know the results.

  • Booklet converted to .pdf is fine for printing/folding, but for putting pdf file online website - pages in wrong order.  How to fix?

I created a booklet in Publisher and then saved as .pdf file to post on a website.  When printed, pages are ok for folding and printing in the right order, but the .pdf file to look at shows pages out of order.  is there a way to fix this?

    Not with Reader.
You would probably need to rebuild the original document and recreate the pdf.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?

Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix

If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • Different page sizes in one pdf file will not scale to print correctly

    Hello all,
I have a pdf document that contains three different page sizes; 8.5"x11", 11"x17" and 34"x22".  These pdf files are custom manuals and we print many of these over the course of a month.
In the older versions of Adobe Acrobat when printing this type of file, I could click print, select the page setup size to 11"x17", then select shrink oversize pages (or fit, depending), and choose paper by pdf page size and I would get the following pages from the printer - 8.5"x11" page would print on a 8.5"x11" paper, 11"x17" on 11"x17" and (most importantly) 34"x22" on 11"x17".  We do this because our printer does not have paper larger than 11"x17" yet the customer also receives a soft copy of the file and many times prints the large pages full size as needed on their large format plotters.
With the newer versions of Acrobat, this will not work.  The only way these files will print automatically is to scale the 22"x34" down to 8.5"x11".   Why would I want to scale it smaller than my largest available paper size?  Also, all of the 11"x17" pages in a multi page size document will come out of the printer rotated 180° yet Adobe shows them correctly when the file is opened.
Also, when I use the settings above, the print preview box shows the document correctly!  The HP technicians have the latest drivers installed and they have shown me where it seems that Adobe is not even sending the larger sheets but instead stops the printing process with an error.  So I try to send a 20 page document but Adobe stops at the first 22x34 page.
We have now lost our old computers with every last old version of Acrobat that I could use to make this work due to mandatory hardware and OS upgrades.  I must find a way to print these documents without individually selecting different pages to print and then trying to assemble the document afterward.
How do I preserve the pages sizes in my document and print the large pages scaled down to the largest paper size I have available in my printer?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Ajlan,
Thank you for your time.  I am still having the issue.  I am using Adobe reader 11.0.09 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.12.  Neither one have the option in the print menu that you show for a physical printer.  They only offer that option for an Adobe PDF creation driver.
It seems as though the printer you have selected in your menu is only for creating a pdf.  I need to physically print the pdf.  Do you have this same option when you select a physical printer?
    (edited to update screen shot)

  • No longer able to download pdf files from websites.

    I am running Firefox 11.0 & Aurora on a Mac with OS X 10.6.8.
I used to be able to download pdf files, such as my bank staements, direct from websites with no problem on either browser.
Recently, when clicking on the link, the dialog box asking whether I want to save it or open it no longer appears and nothing else happens. Can't download. My wife has the same problem with a new Mac with OS x 10.7 Lion.
I am also running an older version of Firefox 3.6.28 on a Mac with PPC processor & OS X 10.5.8. With this I have no problems downloading the pdf files I want.
I have compared the Firefox preferences between the two machines and made them the same. Also found the ''Unable to download or save files'' link on Firefox Help and I have Reset the browser.download configs as it suggested. And nothing has changed.
What to do? Anybody out there can help me? Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I fixed it by going to Add-ons Manager and disabling Adobe Acrobat NPAPI plug-in, version 10.1.3. Now I'm back to downloading PDFs, then opening or saving.

  • PDF File created in CF MX prints SLOW

After A LOT of playing around, I finally figured out how to create a PDF file, add watermarks, images on certain pages, footers and security.  PHEW!
But now, when the user downloads the PDF file, it is pretty big and when you print it, a progress bar that reads "flattening:xx%" comes up for every page and takes a long time to print.
The PDF I created is not a PDFForm, so I am not sure why "flattening" is coming up.  In any case, I need the file to print faster.
So here is the main question, once I have created a PDF file and it is on my server, is there a way to flatten (I know flatten is not the correct word, since flattening is for forms - but I hope you understand what I mean) the file so that it can no longer be stripped of watermarks, footers, etc?  I imagine doing so, will also make the file print more quickly.
For example, if I take my PDF file and print it to a 3rd party distiller program as a new PDF file and I open the new file, it prints almost instantly.
I can't attach the file, so here it is on my server:
    https://www.calcerts.com/mybigpdf.pdf

    Here is a better example.
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1.pdf
is the original PDF file that is uploaded by a user.  Note that it is only 48kb in size.
I take the file, add a couple of watermarks and a footer for each page as well as a small image on the last page, add security on it and BAM, the file:
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1_AFTER.pdf
is now 1.5 MB and it takes a LONG time to print.
    Thoughts?

  • Problems opening PDF files from Websites

I just had the contents of my (dying) ibook transferred onto my emac. The tech created a new user/desktop on the emac. Now, when I try to open PDF files from a website, I get a window saying this:
"Downloading - users/myname/desktop/xxxxx.pdf could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."
Points to note: 1) The "xxxxx.pdf" part of the above message changes each time I try to open a pdf document, even the same one, and it does not show the real name of the document (e.g. CollegeApplication.pdf)
    2) this never happened on my laptop;
    3) the settings are set in Firefox to download pdf's to my desktop;
    4) I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, which I already tried opening before downloading.
    Any ideas? Thank you!

Will the new account save to a different location?
Is the "myname" that appears in the error message that of the new account or of the old one?
Following up on Frank's tip about file permissions, is it possible that the GID of the new user account conflicts with the existing? The existing admin user was likely GID = 501 on both Macs, and depending on how the laptop's data was transferred, the internal ownership of the transferred files still points to 502 rather than say 502.
have you tried the old standby of running Disk Utility's Repair Permissions on the hard drive?

  • PDF layers not visible & won't print

I have a PDF that was sent to me that is comprised of 2 layers.  When I open the PDF in 9.0 Pro, both layers flash on the screen momentarily and then Layer1 disappears and only Layer2 is visible.  If I turn off visibility of Layer2, Layer1 appears.  If I turn on visibility of Layer2, Layer1 disappers.
Then, when I try to print, only Layer2 will print.  I have to configure Layer2 to "never print" in order to get Layer1 to print.  I have tried to "merge" layers, but that doesn't seem to work.  I have tried to "flatten" layers, but Acrobat just seems to freeze.
Only when I click on Advanced > Print Production > Output Preview and have the "Simulate Overprinting" checked does the PDF appear as it should.  However, it won't print that way.  Any ideas on how to get BOTH layers visible at the same time AND able to print?

After posting I kept researching and found the following:
If a PDF has been created with overprinting you must do two things to get the PDF to display properly and print.
Enable Overprint Preview: Edit > Preferences > Page Display - Change "Use Overprint Preview" to "Always".  This will force the PDF to show everything.  You can turn the feature back off later if you wish.
Enable Overprint Printing: File > Print - Click on Advanced button - Click on "Output" - Place a check in the box "Simulate Overprinting".  The PDF should print as it displays on the screen.

I have tried to read pdf files on two different websites this morning and neither of them will display. I just get a black screen. I have updated to the latest version and have set Adobe Reader as my default reader. I have a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.7.5.
    Please help. Very frustrated.

    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
    Empty the trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
PDFs will now open in the browser.
