PDF file Pagination Question
I work as a trainer in a law firm.
A paralegal at the firm just got a disc of Ediscovery PDF files from an outside source. She is using Acrobat X Pro.
When looking at a two page document from the disc, the Adobe toolbar gives the page numbers as 18-19 rather than one and two.
She is not seeking to change the pagination because as part of the Ediscovery requirements, she cannot modify the document; she is merely wondering why there is a discrepancy in the pagination.
I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the culprit may be how the originator of the PDF documents created the PDF documents.
Does anyone know why?

Each page in a PDF can have a label. The label is usually a number. This allows one to have, for example, a document whose pages are labelled i, ii, iii, 1, 2, 3. Most files have no labels, so they just get numbered 1, 2, 3.
The chances are that this document was part of a bigger document, which was labelled. (It must have been labelled, since otherwise the new document would just have been 1,2).

Dinamically Generate PDF File - Design Question

I'd like to dinamically generade a PDF file but because I've never done that before I have some design / structure questions.
The workflow I imagine works as follows.
1. I created a new menu item with which a new Page is created. Idealy I would be able to generate the title and the subtitles of that new page already.
2. The user imports other pdf documents to the newly created page and annotates stuff.
3. The first page is then dynamically extended with the information from the annotated stuff.
I already found a code sample in the Adobe SDK that I think is usefull. My question is how to structue the PDF file I'm generating. Is it a good idea to store every subtitle-category within a PDEContent element and then add the PDEText elements to it? Is it possible to add textfields, this is form elements too? Or, would it be possible to use a template for the basic structure that can be dinamically extended at runtime?
I hope this description was understandable and I'm looking forward to your sugestions.You need to do some research on PDF first to understand how PDF works - both standard page content as well as the various Forms capabilities. Then, armed with that knowledge, you need to evaluate the PDFs that users will be importing as well as the final document presentation & functionality that you desire.

Pdf file will not open in iBooks 2.2?
I have an iPhone 4S with iBooks 1.5 and the pdf file in question (a one-page school calendar), and any other pdfs for that matter, open fine after selecting the file in iBooks. However, the same pdf file on my wife's 4S with iBooks 2.2 will not open. You can see the thumbnail in iBooks, but it will not open. Has anyone experienced and/or solved this? Thanks so much.

PDF files created with Primo PDF or Progeny PDF printer
I am working on a computer with Windows Vista on it and I now have a problem when I create a PDF using the Primo PDF printer, or the Progeny PDF printer -- if Adobe is already open with a file, the new file appears with fuzzy colors. When I close Adobe, the files seem normal. Any idea why this happens? Has anybody had the same problem?
Not a known problem. And the "already launched" problem points to an issue with Reader.
Please submit some samples with a bug report for Reader to debug.
Here is what the issue looks like (click to zoom) :
On the left side is the PDF file opened with no other instances of Adobe Reader open. On the right side is what the exact same file looks like when opened after another instance of Reader (displaying another PDF file) was already open.
It's as if the font rendering engine was incapable of multi-threading. Like Reader can only render the font properly if the PDF file in question is the only one it's got in RAM.
Worth noting :
Opening a 2nd PDF file with distorted fonts does not affect the first open PDF. That one continues to display normally. Only every subsequent instance of Reader will have this issue.
Files were saved normally via Photoshop CS5, although this issue has been present for at least 2-3 versions if not more (only started saving PDF's around that time - it's quite possible this was ALWAYS an issue).
This is strictly a SCREEN RENDERING ISSUE. The PDF file prints to paper just fine with uncorrupted fonts no matter how it looks on-screen.
As mentioned earlier in the thread, this happens across multiple computers. Whether I create the PDF via Photoshop CS3 in WinXP or via Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 on a completely different computer... it will have the same issues. Tried it at work, too -- miles away from home. Same issues. Graphic cards are also from different makes, and display the same issue.
This happens to every single font in the document, regardless of how common or obscure a font it is. In this case, it's Helvetica Neue.
Again, because this important : even if the fonts look distorted on-screen, they will print out on paper just fine. This is a screen rendering issue.
Default PDF settings, no layers, vector data non-rasterized.

Is FCPX compatible with pdf files ?

I am having problem with still image.
My default setting for still image is 8 seconds. So far I have no problem putitng it into the timeline.
I just notice something strange happened today. I still image I import it is always 1 second !
The only difference is that now it is pdf instead of previously jpeg.
An I cannot change the duration of this pdf file.
Question 1:
How do I convert pdf to jpg ?

Is this problem only happening to me ? Am I the only one to experience this ?

You mean, I create another project file, put the pdf file on the timeline, then:
Share > Save Current Frame > Then in the Export Option, select png ?
Then import this png into the original project file ?

Every time I get a PDF file sent to me, I only see the first page and I can't even print it out. I guess I should be setting up something as my default to view PDF files but I'm not sure how. Help!!!!! The pdf file in question was 12 pages.

Welcome to the discussions. I will presume that the pdf document opened in Preview. At the top of the Preview window, just beneath the file name is a tool bar. Click on the button that reads "Drawer" and you should see thumbnail representations of the complete document show up on the right side of the main window. You can move up and down through the document simply be using the up and down arrows on your keyboard.
Alternately, you should be able to use the Previous/Next buttons or the Back/Forward buttons in the toolbar to move between pages of your document.
Another alternative would be to download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader available at http://www.adobe.com

There is an ad "Apago PDF Enhancer" on pdf file

I have just copied a pdf file to my iPad from my laptop. It's totally OK when I read it on my laptop but whene I read it on the iPad, there is an add "Apago PDF Enhancer" in the middle of every page.
I don't know why and how can I remove it.

I assume that you are using the Adobe Reader for iOS on your iPad.
Where did the PDF file come from that you are copying from your laptop computer? Did you generate it yourself (and with what?) or did you acquire it from elsewhere? Based on your second posting, I assume that you don't have any version of Apago's software installed on your computer.
My best guess is that the PDF file in question was processed by someone using a trial version of the Apago PDF Enhancer product . One possibility is that the trial version “watermarks” the PDF file with what you are reading, but possibly turns off the watermark with Javascript on Adobe Reader or Acrobat under Windows and MacOS. Since Javascript isn't implemented on Adobe Reader for iOS (prohibited by Apple), the watermark is not turned off. But again, that is only my guess. You might want to contact the source of the PDF file and notify them of this and see if they can regenerate the PDF file for you (and others who may encounter this). Otherwise, you might want to contact Apago <http://www.apagoinc.com/> and see if they can assist you in removing this watermark/annotation.

I am a newbie to the Apple World and Yesterday I bought an APPLE IPAD (4th Generation).. My primary purpose is to read pdf files on IPAD4.
I have 3 questions ..
1. Can we connect a usb flash drive to the ipad4 and read pdf files from it?
2. I am using windows since 2000 and accustomed to the file explorer and file management in it. Can I get such kind of environment in IPAD4 ?
3. Do I have to sync the IPAD too often?

Never used it so I can't comment on whether or not it works well. There are very few devices out there that allow file transfer without going through iTunes or via the internet. IMHO, one real weakness of the iPad, great for consuming data, however not very fully featured when it comes to moving data around, especially if that data doesn't come from iTunes or other online source.

Strange question mark error while opening pdf files in adobereader from SAP

We are having a strange intermittent problem with Adobe Reader. When we try to open PDF files from SAP Frontend we get an error pop-up. The pop-up does not have any text. The title of the pop-up has "Adobe Reader". There is a blue question mark and an OK button.
This issue occurs few times a day
This issue does not occur in Windows XP.
Since past few weeks, we have been trying to find some error/warning/atleast some text in log files of SAP, OS, Adobe Reader, Registry entries, Event Viewer. So far, we have not found anything.
SAP is not able to help as this issue occurs intermittently and said when they tried, the issue did not occur. They made two attempts and in each attempt they tried 10 times to reproduce the issue. This issue occurs intermittently.
Environment
SAP R/3 4.7 EE SAP_Basis 620 Support Package 61
Windows Vista Enterprise
Adobe Reader 9.0 and Adobe Reader 9.1 (tried with both versions)
SAPGUI 710 Patch 12 (latest patch). It also occured in Patch 11.

We tried many notes from Service Market Place. Also, Windows Team is in contact with Adobe.
As per Adobe's suggestions, we tried changing preferences of Adobe Reader. We think it might be a problem with SAP Frontend.

A computer where Acrobat 9 Standard and Acrobat Reader 9 have been installed.
When I try to read a pdf file from a web site and read it in IE, I get a popup whith a question mark and no text.
The pdf file is not open.
I have try to reinstall the last reader but the problem is not solved.

Try using Protected Mode Off. Then you will be at the same level of security that those other programs are running at. You could also try elevating the iexplore.exe task. That would turn off Protected Mode in that task automatically but then
you would be running also with Administrator level authority which might be excessive.

I use Acrobat X Standard and created a PDF file from two or more worksheets using EXCEL 2010.
The resulting PDF file restarts the PAGE # (In header/footer settings of Excel) at 1 for each worksheet.
However, a colleague of mine who has Acrobat X Pro version, using EXCEL 2010 and same exact file does the same task, he gets a file that starts at page 1 and second worksheet continues the page # from the last page of the First worksheet.
We both are using the ACROBAT menu (not the print to Adobe printer) to create the file so that we can get Bookmarks included in the resulting file for each worksheet.
We cannot figure out any option in Acrobat's preferences that controls the pagination on either of these versions of Acrobat.
So is this just a feature that works one way in Standard version and another way in the Pro version, and the user has no control over it?This is so sad. I read your comments and I said, "Huh?" Haha!
I tried the indexed color option and it did make the final file smaller. Around 600KB. But there's probably another way to make it even smaller like the gazillion-paged pdf file that I mentioned that was only about 300KB.
And by saying a layout program, does that mean like Adobe InDesign? Does that mean that I should just make my graphics in Photoshop and then import using another program and finish the file there?
What other layout programs can I use?

Every time I open a pdf file which includes a javascript, a dialogue box pops up. I have a question why 'Do not show this message again' is not working even I checked on the checkbox. It should block the dialogue next time when I open the same pdf file but not working. What is the matter and how can I deal with it?
I am trying it on Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.2.1. Tried to fix Hex code, and also tried 'edit-preference-trust manager'. I focusing on Adobe registries but still couldn't fix the problem.

I have installed Adobe Reader 11.0.07 for Mac OS 10.9.3. Have asked this question numerous time without results. The problems I am having are: I cannot scroll using the side slider on downloaded PDF files, nor can I fill in fillable files. Also, and this is extremely irritating, I cannot re-initialize the same file or initialize and another PDF file after I have initialized the first file. If you cannot help please let me know if should use an earlier version of Reader or find anther company that has the appropriate software.
Perhaps you missed that you started a discussion at I have OS 10.9.2 and have downloaded latest version of Reader 11. I can no longer fill in form or scroll using the side bar. and you did not respond to the last post there.
