PDF file preview in windows 8.1 machine through my application

I developed an application which preview PDf documents. app is working in windows XP, windows 7 machines. But when i run the same application i got "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been return from a call to a COM component".
Through my application i tried to create object of "Adobe PDF preview handler" CLASS ID = "DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-44885D7DC193"
Is this handler wont support in windows 8.1?
Is source code available for this?
PS: I can preview the file throught windows previewer.

Hi,
Welcome to MSDN.
It seems that this is not the proper forum for this issue, since it is related to third-party.
I found a similar thread in the forums of Adobe
Adobe Community: Acrobat Reader 9.1 ActiveX control problems which shows that :
As for "HRESULT E_FAIL" message, all that was wrong was the "Display PDF in browser" option in
Adobe Reader preferences. It needs to be ticked. A bit weird but considering
that it uses the same OCX in a web browser, it makes some sense."
It seems that installing Reader 9.1 on my development machine and compiling a
new version of the application fixes the problem (at least the second one).
If still no helping, you could post this issue in the forum of that publisher to get dedicated support.
Thanks for your understanding.

  • Mailed PDF files arrive on Windows platform as corrupt Windows Media files

Recently I mailed some .pdf files to 3 of the Windows machines on our network. Each of them reported that when attempting to open the .pdf file on the Windows machine, their system tried to use Windows Media instead of Adobe Reader. Of course they received an error message. When they saved the .pdf files on their machines, the files opened correctly in Adobe Reader.
These are files that I downloaded from the State of Oregon. After we had problems there, I mailed them some of the .pdf files I had created. Same results. The Windows machine treats them as corrupt Windows Media files.
I am the only Mac in our company. Of course the problem must be mine!?!
I am using MS Entourage as my mail client.
    Suggestions? Comments? Answers?
    Thanks!!

    Kappy,
No problem! Your suggestions were what made me consider the extension option in Entourage's preferences. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
Your suggestion also prompted me to try the same thing using Mail. Mail worked just fine, so the problem is in how Entourage handles the .pdf file being sent to a Windows computer where it will be opened either in Outlook or Internet Explorer.
It seems that Somewhere along the line, the .pdf extension is being changed to a .png extension which triggers the launch of Windows Media Browser.
I just rebuilt the Entourage database and I'll see what happens now.

  • Problems opening .pdf files created in Windows in MAC

My clients that are using Macs are having problems opening password protected PDFs that I created in Windows. Any suggestions?

Are your clients using Adobe Reader on Mac, or the built-in Mac OS Preview?  Preview does NOT support the full PDF standard :(.

Using Adobe 11 reader, now comes up with an error, once file is opened. 'Invalid plugin detected, Adobe reader will quit. Closes the program so cannot view PDF files. Running windows 7. I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe still the same. HELP

Sounds like something has been added into the Reader folder. I would recommend uninstalling, running http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, removing any left over parts of the Reader folder (this might have been the problem), reboot, and reinstall. Hopefully that solves the problem. For future question about Reader, you should consider asking in the Reader forum, this is not it.

  • Open pdf file in separate window?

I'm not seeing option to open a link to pdf file in separate window. Is it possible? On this page I would like visitors to be able to open the pdf while continuing to listen to the audio file that's associated with it (audio clips towards bottom of page)

Okay, so where are you publishing your site to - MobileMe or an external server such as GoDaddy?
If to GoDaddy, then to upload directly to the server, as I explained in my previous post, then you would need to use Cyberduck and upload your pdf file to your public_html file or whichever file you need to upload to - it could also be 'www', or 'htdocs'.  Upload your pdf file here and then go back to iWeb and create the link to your pdf file by linking to it directly on the server - don't hyperlink to a file, but to your external server, which will be http://www.domain.com/name of your pdf file.pdf.  This is all you need do and then select open in a new page and your link to your document has been created.
If publishing to MobileMe, then you need to upload the pdf file directly to your iDisk.  You would then make the link to the url http://web.me.com/username/sitename/name of pdf file.pdf and select to open in a new page.
That is what is meant by uploading to a server and you then have to create the link directly to where your file has been uploaded to and not the file itself.  You need to enter the external url which will be your domain name or your MobileMe url, plus the username and site name.

  • I don't see thumbnails for PDF files in my Windows Explorer

    Hi,
When browsing through my File Manager to look for files, I used to be able to see a thumbnail of any PDF files I'd saved.
I can still see the old ones created earlier, but my more recent files just show a black square with the Adobe 'A' in bottom right hand corner or sometimes a large Adobe 'A' on white field with "PDF" in top left corner.
Seeing a thumbnail I think helps to find your file. Does anyone know why I don't get them any more or how to get them back. (The save a thumbnail option is checked for normal word docs, but not visible when saving as PDF.
I am using Mic Office 2010 (Word) to save as PDF. My computer is Windows 7 64bit.
Interesting, I can see a preview of PDF files which is a help, but not individual thumbnails for my more recent files....can still see them for older, longer ago saved PDFs.
    Added info:
Just checked, I last had thumbnails in December 2011, January 2012 I stopped getting them.
Tried to insert a picture to show you what I get in explorer, but just get a big dark grey square so I'll explain. Just worked out the following.
Prior to end of 2011 my PDFs have a thumbnail.
After that I just have a black square with the Adobe 'A' in bottom right hand corner if I create PDF with Word
If I do 'Save As' while in the reader I get a large Adobe 'A' on white field with "PDF" in top left corner

NO, NOT THAT SIMPLE, now I find some normal thumbnails later in 2012, so the behaviour is changeable!!!!!

  • PDF Thumnbnail preview PROBLEM (Windows 7 x32)

I have problems now with my adobe reader thumbnail preview.
This started when I had unistall my Adobe Photoshop cs5 white rabbit to replace with Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended. When I uninstalled it with Revounistaller, the thumbnail preview for my pdf files was gone. I tried to do some troubleshootings like:
    1. downloading the Adobe thumbnail 64-bit windows 7 provided by programmers but it wont work since i am a 32-bits user.
    2. uninstalling and reinstalling adobe reader x
    3. reinstalling a previous version of adobe reader
    4. uninstalling and reinstalling adobe photoshop cs5 extended
    5. downloading and installing Foxit reader; it had resolved the problem but when I reboot the PC, the problem just came back
    6.  Downloaded a program that enable thumbnail preview for images like Nikon, PSD files and PDF files
    7. Cleaning the registry with tune up 2012 and manually
and none of these had work and restored back my pdf thumbnail preview.
I have also noticed on my registry
AcroExch.Document cannot be solved by my tuneup. Manually, it cannot be deleted.
Oh, I am so desperate in looking ways on how to solve this. I hope experts of Adobe can help me solve my problem/frustration.
By the way, I am Adobe reader is one of my very useful programs.

  • Safari 3.0.3 won't open PDF files in new window & won't download to desktop

When I click on a PDF file at a website Safari opens a new browser window but the window is always blank. The PDF file never appears. When I try to download the file to the desktop (right click) it doesn't download. I've read everything about the PDF problem posted at any relevant forum here. I've tried the Quicktime MIME approach. Didn't work. I've disabled the "open PDF in browser" option in Adobe Reader. Didn't work. I've looked for the Adobe plug-in to relocate. Didn't work. I downloaded Adobe Reader 8. Didn't work. When I make Adobe the default rather than Preview, Safari still doesn't open the PDF files or download them. Is there anyone in the computing world who actually can fix this problem? And why hasn't this recurring problem that has affected so many others been escalated to Apple for resolution???!!!

Installing the newest version of Adobe Reader and restarting Safari fixed this issue for me.

  • Opening .pdf files in same window

I'm new to AA9 but have used AA7 for a long time.  In AA7, if I had a .pdf file already open on the desktop, and I opened another file by double-clicking on it, the new file would open in the same window.  Then, I could close that file within the window and toggle between numerous files from the "minimize/maximize/close" icons in the window.  Since I work with a lot of maps, it was very convenient to have the icons lined up across the bottom of the page, and open and close them as needed.  Now, with AA9, when I double-click, it opens a new window, complete with all the toolbar icons etc. This is very inconvenient by comparison, and I don't know how to change it.   I've looked through preferences and cannot find an option to fix this.  Is this something I won't be able to accomplish in AA9?  If so, I will go back to using AA7, but I like some of the other features of AA9, so I hope someone knows how to reset this function.  (FYI, I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo, T9600, 6GM RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT230M w/ 1GB DDR memory).  My version of AA9 Pro is part of Adobe Creative Suite CS4.  Thanks.

    Hi misterbill1717,
Using Windows 7, 64-bit and Acrobat 7 will result in problematic performance of Acrobat 7.
Acrobat releases prior to 9.2 are not supported by Adobe in Windows 7.
As to Acrobat 7 and 64-bit, see this TechNote:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331732.html
So the fundamental issue will be Acrobat 7 in Windows 7.
    As to your other concern.
It sounds like you are describing the Multiple Document Interface (MDI) available in the Adobe Reader/Acrobat 8 release(s).
As the article below (via the link) states, Single Document Interface (SDI) was the default in the Adobe Reader/Acrobat 8 release(s).
Change to MDI, with release 8, requires the user to perform the following:
Edit > Preferences > from the Categories: pane, select "Documents" > in the Open Settings pane >
select/check the first (top) entry "Show each document in its own window (requires restart)
Then "OK", close open appliations and restart the local machine.
Now, when one right clicks a link to access the context menu, they can "Open Link in New Window".
In release 9 of Adobe Reader/Acrobat this is no longer available. The article, at the link below, explains why.
Multiple Document Interface (MDI) was dropped in Acrobat 9. For further information check out this article.
    MDI vs SDI in Acrobat
    http://blogs.adobe.com/acrobat/2008/09/mdi_vs_sdi_in_acrobat.html
    Also:
Preference "Show each document in its own window (requires restart)" no longer available in Acrobat/Reader 9.0
