  • How to make pdf files save protected

    Hi,
We have displayed some company policy documents on our portal, we want to make those pdf files save protected and print protected, i.e we want to make the save and print button disabled.
Can you please help out with this issue.

    Hi,
In your case, you cannot do much to protect the PDF unless you create a Repository Filter (Content Filter) in which you change the security settings of the PDF file.
This needs some expertise in modifying PDF documents with some Java PDF libraries.
Check googling for Java PDF libraries, you will find some and get acquainted to them and start programming.

  • Why won't pdf files save as txt?

I used Adobe Reader X on my Windows XP PC to copy multiple pdf files to txt files so I could add information to them. I didn't need them as pdf files anyway. Since having had to buy a new PC, (Windows 7), the pdf files that I 'Save As' txt files are empty once copied. I tried copying a pdf file I'd successfully copied to txt on my old PC and it too is empty once copied to txt. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Thank you for your response, but the "save as text" (.txt) is what is now resulting in an empty file. It used to produce a full text file.

  • How to know what compression format is used for images in pdf file? (jpeg2000 issue with iPad)

I have a pdf file whose images are compressed in jpeg2000 format which the iPad doesn't support. I used Acrobat to save the pdf file using the zip compression for the images and another time using the jpg compression. I set this in the PDF Optimizer screen. The images in the pdf do not show up in the iPad.
I am not sure if I am doing something wrong. How do I know what compression was used for the images in a pdf file?

My work around for now is "Make Compatible with…’ from Acrobat 4.0 " which does not support JPEG2000 compression.

  • PDF 'File Save' problem in Firefox

Using Firefox browser, when I select a PDF file that opens in a new window [rather than a new tab], save it and close the window, the AcroRD32.exe process is not stopped.  If I then open another PDF file in a similar manner, it can not be saved.  Each time you close a PDF window, you have to go to Task Manager and stop the AcroRD32 process before being abl;e to save a subsequent document.  This does not happen with IE.
Using Reader 10.1.1 and Firefox 8 on a Windows Vista32 system.

Same bug i see in Opera browser. PDFs doesn't saves without stopping AcroRd32 process. And save dialogue doesn't appears when clicking links (even if web browsing function deactivated in adobe reader settings)...
Apart from this File Save problem, there is more strange things while browsing PDF online, like "blinks", hangs, image dissapear, suddenly lags without any reason, browser crashing and more...
So, because adobe reader prevents to download PDFs, and because it works very buggy with online browsing, especially if website uses adobe flash to show PDFs, the only right solution i found is uninstalling adobe reader. After that File Save problem was gone!

  • File Save As Issue...

    Greetings Captivate Community,
After trying to backup my Captivate 5.5 project and clicking "Save As" and renaming my Captivate file, my original Captivate project file no longer displays any of the pictures that are included on each slide, except for the main background image from the Master Slide.  However, the new "backup" renamed file displays all pictures/assets perfectly fine.
I am working on a medium sized eLearning project with the following:
    - running full version of Captivate 5.5
    - 120 slides with photos (jpgs - each jpg roughly under 10k) and audio files (see below).  Each slide is roughly 3 seconds long and pauses waiting for user interaction "click to continue"
    - audio files are passive and only triggered via click boxes (triggered after user clicks on picture, click boxes are layered on top of pictures),
    - I am saving my Captivate 5.5 files locally on my own computer, as well as all my assets for my projects are saved locally
    - I am NOT using a network drive for saving any files or assets
    - all of my assets: pics, audio files, etc. have NOT been relocated or moved
    - All of my Captivate 5.5 projects are saved in the default location in My Documents > My Adobe Captivate Projects
    My PC specs:
    - Windows 7 SP1
    - Intel Core i5  M460 @ 2.53 GHz
    - 4GB RAM
    - 64 Bit PC
    - 248GB Free out of 500GB
This issue occurs everytime I save my project "Save As" and rename the file to a new name, leaving only my newly renamed project file as the only project file that displays all of the photo assets on each slide properly.
Has anyone else had this issue?  If so, what did you do to remedy this problem?  I would like to reuse all of the work that I've done and save it as a template by choosing "save as" and then changing/updating my assets and library for the new project.  But I'm afraid if I choose "save as", my old project will become useless or will not display all of the assets that it once displayed or become useless.  Please help as I am under a deadline.  Please let me know if you have any questions about my project conditions/environment, PC specs, etc.
    Many thanks!

I do "save as" another file name all the time WITHOUT seeing this issue. I use my C:drive for the Adobe Applications (many), D: has "My Documents" as well as the Published Captivate folder and my F: is where I have the temporary cache... and I am set up for automatic backup files (which have been a godsend since I suffer crashes when manipulating multilevels in the TOC (different issue entirely).  My total local disk space is about 1.75 TB so that's never an issue (another 2 TB external).  I wonder if it's your video card RAM/Processing power that may be effecting it... I find a lot of Adobe products require higher RAM and Video RAM
Have you tried starting a new project and then importing library items from your previous project to get the re-use out of it?  I would guess it would be a really fast workaround and save you some valuable disk space. After importing the other library, save your new project under whatever name you want.
Another thing I frequently do is export preferences & styles that I want to use in other projects and then import them into new files with a name I recognize so I don't have to constantly re-define TOC skins & object styles.
Just thinking that if you do your re-use items as seperate components you'll have fewer hardware resource issues if that's the problem.

  • PDF Printer Save As Issue

Windows XP, Office 2007, Adobe Pro 9.
PDF printer previously functioned without issue.  System has recently had fresh OS installed.
When "Save As" is selected, the mapped network drive that is available to Windows is not available as a part of the drive choices.
Attempting to add a new network location in the software and you receive an error message saying the path is not valid. PDF Printer recognizes other network locations.
The drive is available as a save location in other programs and the user can access the location without issue.
Any idea how I can get Adobe to recognize it?

I can't seem to find it in the apps.
I just tried a system archive install and reinstalled the Adobe Suites and it is still doing it.
The other issue is that when I am in an app, and I navigate to folders they expand rather than open. Do you know how to change that??

  • Printing a PDF file saves .prn but won't go to printer

Windows 7 Utlimate, 32-bit.. Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. An HP Officjet and a Brother laser printer, both networked.
Whenever I try to print from Acrobat, instead of going to my chosen printer I get a Save dialog box for a .prn file. Thus, I can no longer print from Acrobat.
This started a couple of weeks ago. I have made no changes to my system, printers, or Acrobat, unless there were some automatic updates in background.
All my other software (Excel, WordPerfect, Firefox, etc.) continue to print normally.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Solved!
Somehow, the "Print to file" box became checked as a default. I never even noticed, as I don't think I ever used that choice in many years of using Acrobat Pro.

  • How do I setup automatic download of PDF files in Safari?

Previously whenever I clicked on a pdf link it would automatically download the file and place it in my downloads folder, now I have to manually save each pdf file in a safari window to my downloads folder assigning it a name. When I would download credit card statements, as an example. the statements would automatically download and be placed in my downloads folder and be assigned a progressive name like "statement1", "statement2", etc. But now it's so frustrating that files don't automatically download, and that I manually have to save each one and assign it a name. If you have any suggestions to help, I'd greatlly appreciate it!

pjmetz: You say "tried changing from Adobe Reader to Preview and then Safari to get the automatic downloading to stop, but neither choice produced the desired effect." What effect did these changes produce? I am sure they didn't leave things as they were, did they? If they did, and Adobe Reader is strong-arming its way to causing all PDF files to download, try removing Reader and give it a test with no Reader-assist. Oh, I'm not trying to get you to give up on Reader. You can copy Reader to an ext. HDD for safe-keeping, and then trash it from the internal HDD, and empty the trash. Then test Safari. If Safari works correctly without Reader, get your answer from Adobe.com
maxintaft: PDF files cannot be editied easily even on your HDD, mush less in a browser window. Whatever it is you are typing in (or have been typing in previously), it is not a PDF file, so your issue needs a new question, or contact the school site webmaster for help.

Looks like this particular file is not transferring to the SAP work directory.
Could you please check and suggest us as to how to fix it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Srivas

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
We verified  your OSS notes it's not relevant to us Because our issue is while opening the PDF aatchement it is not transferring to my SAP Work Directory because of that reason we are getting the KPRO error. When I'm opening the other PDF files it's transferring to my SAP Work Directory and it's automatically open without any issue.
    Please check and suggest.

    Hi Jorg ,
Are you trying to reduce the file size with the "Reduced size PDF" in the save as other option.
Give it a try if you haven't done it prior.
Open that PDF>File>Save as Other>Reduced size PDF.
If possible ,please share the snapshot of the error message with us so that we can have a look in order to assist you further.

  • Some PDF files will not open

Hi - anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated as I am beyond frustrated.
I have Adobe Reader (version 11.1.3) on my Android phone (SG4)  but this applies to iPhones as well. Some PDF files open without issue. But there are a few that just give me a message that says "Please wait... if this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of content. You canupgrade tot he latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows, Mac or Linux by visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download."
There are 2 files specifically that boggle me. Both of these are Adobe forms, extended to reader, that I created and both were downloaded from our intranet. One will open and one will not. I tried recreating the one that will not open, had it uploaded to our intranet but still it won't open...
I can't for the life of me understand why?!?!

These are online documents, right?  This message usually means that you are trying to open the doc in a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.

  • Viewing edit PDF file on IPAD

I added text to a pdf file, save the file and then sent it as an email attachment. I opened up the email via the IPAD but when I opened up the attached PDF, none of my added text shows up. Note: the added text does show up with I open up the same file on the PC but not on the IPAD. How can I view the same file on my IPAD that I can view on my PC?

Try downloading the Adobe Reader app, it might work better than the default program:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/adobe-reader/id469337564?mt=8
If that doesn't work you might want to try GoodReader, which is pretty much my go-to app for PDF management:

  • Recompressing PDF files?

I just got sent a bunch of PDF files (archived newsletter issues) for inclusion on a web page. Unfortunately, they were apparently converted using "High Quality Print" settings or some such, since many of them are 2 and 3 MB in size, obviously unusable by non-highspeed visitors.
Can these files be recompressed in a simple manner, or do I have to convert them back to print files (say, .doc) first, then re-re-converted using "smallest file size" settings? Several of the newsletters contain color pictures, but those I can leave large if I need to. There are about 3 dozen of these files, so obviously some kind of batch-process would be ideal...

Oops, sorry guys, I seem to have somehow wandered into the wrong forum - was meant to go to the Acrobat Windows page. My bad...
