Pdf file won't erase

Good day all, I received a file via email for tax. It wont open via save, quick look or putting it on the desk top. Message is, Adobe cannot open tax-file.pdf as it might have been damaged etc. I also can't get rid of it by putting it in trash. How do I print it or just throw it away? [ I'll get another via fax]. Thanks Duncan

If it's in the Trash can, hold your Option key down when selecting Empty Trash. The file may be locked.

  • Pdf files won't open in Safari running on a Mac

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard in preparation for Lion and ever since the upgrade, pdf files won't open in Safari.  I have Reader 9.4.5.  It opens documents that are on my machine, it just won't open in Safari, nor do the documents download.

MIght be helpful to disable Adobe plugin by going to Adobe Reader's Preferences -> Internet and unchecking "Display PDF in browser using".
Then dump the atrocious bloated Reader.

  • IWeb Problem- PDF files won't hyperlink

Suddenly my .pdf files won't open as LINKS
    www.alicesimpson.com

I just visited your site and under the LINKS page I was able to download a pdf file without problems. When you say it no longer opens as a link, do you mean that you want a pdf file to open in a new tab or window of your browser? If so, that is most likely a browser setting, not an iWeb setting.

  • PDF file won't open after saving it from the web.  get error message file is damaged.

My PDF files won't open after saving them to Docs from the web.  I get error message file is damaged. Can someone help me correct this problem on Mac Air w Mountain Lion?

I wonder if the image is being embedded somehow and there is not enough scratch disk space to render the file. Just a hunch. Check your hardrive to see how much free space is available. Also, check your RAM and see if you can upgrade ( install more, install much more ) to max out as much RAM as possible. At a minimum, check for fragmentation and do a "Correct Permissions" via Apple's Disk Utility.
But, weird things start happening when a font becomes corrupt. Not that one is, but it may be in your best interest to acquire a font management utility like Font Agent PRO ( if you don't have one already ). A good font management program can detect and disable corrupt fonts.
CS1 and OSX10.4 should be fairly compatable with the 7500, but you may have gone as far as you can go. Think about upgrading to a G4 or a G5. I believe the 7500 was pre G3 ( which I think is the minimum requirements for CS1 ).

  • PDF file won't open with double click

    Mac OSX 10.6.8/Acrobat 10.1.3.
Suddenly pdf files won't open with a double click, I now have to open Acrobat and file>open.
Also, once they're open, they won't close by clicking the red close dot, I now have to go to file>close.
    Very frustrating!

Even reinstalling doesn't work with the standard Creative Suite installer. Except for the double-click bug, Acrobat doens't respond to dock-tasks either, like <right-mouse-click> on dock icon and select <quit>.
In this version of Acrobat, the repair function doen't seem to exist anymore. Sadly....
So the problem keeps existing, even with the laterst 10.1.4 version.

Please try repairing Reader installation on your machine. Do you get any error message while attaching the pdf file?

  • PDF files won't open in received emails (GMail) since update 5.1.1

I receive emails with attached PDF files for my work, but since the latest update 5.1.1 the PDF files will not download on my iPad 3 wifi. The files are usually around only 50kb in size, but when I tap the attachment in the email, nothing happens. The files also won't work on my iPhone 4S after the latest update too.
I never had a problem before the latest update, any ideas?

  • Pdf files won't open on Mac

I have a Mac, OS X, 10.9.4.  I recently downloaded the newest version of Adobe Reader 11.0.09 and installed it.  I left my computer before the installation was completed, and it turns out it wanted me to close Firefox.  I did, but it was the next day.  The installation finished, but maybe a little weirdly -- I don't remember.  Now, certain .pdf files (that I have opened many times in the past) won't open.  The adobe page opens, with the filename at the top, and the page blank below, then the page disappears after a couple of seconds.  Some .pdf files open fine.  All files will open with Preview.  I think I need to reinstall Adobe Reader, but don't know how.  If I try to download and install, it says my version is up-to-date.  Please help.

Removing Adobe Reader XI basic files from Mac OS X
*Note: These steps are for a machine that ONLY has Adobe Reader installed.
    1.  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    2.  Type this:  /Applications/
    3.  Select the Adobe Reader application
    4.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the Adobe Reader application and select "Move to Trash"
    5. In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    6. Type this:  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    7.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewer.plugin"
    8.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" and select "Move to Trash"
    9.  In the authentication window with the text "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this", provide your administrator password.
    10.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin"
    11.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" and select "Move to Trash"
    12.  In the authentication window with the text "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this", provide your administrator password.
    13.  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    14.  Type this:  /Users/[YOUR_USERNAME]/Library/Preferences/
    15.  Select the file "com.adobe.Reader.plist"
    16.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "com.adobe.Reader.plist" and select "Move to Trash"
** This gets rid of the BASIC items that Adobe Reader installs.  There are other files that can be removed and I'll put them  in after this notation, but this should be sufficient. Reboot the machine at this point to make sure everything is cleared from memory and then download the Adobe Reader installer.
    Good Luck!
If you want to completely remove Adobe Reader and the user specific files then proceed with this caveat and warning:
    ***WARNING***
THESE NEXT STEPS WILL REMOVE ALL PREVIOUS ADOBE READER AND ADOBE ACROBAT USER SPECIFIC PREFERENCES INCLUDING DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATES, SEQUENCES, JAVASCRIPTS, ACTIONS, SHARED REVIEW ENTRIES IN THE TRACKER, CUSTOM STAMPS AND MORE.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT REMOVING THIS FILES DO NOT PROCEED.
    ***WARNING***
17 .  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    18.  Type this: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    19.  Select the folder "Acrobat"
    20.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "Acrobat" and select "Move to Trash"

  • Help needed. PDF files won't open in IE8.

    Hello guyz!
I opened a PDF file in IE8 using Adobe Reader, but it won't open. It's a 14 MB file which I got from a blog. It just stops the downloading at KB and shows an error screen. I forgot what the error screens look like. Please help me fix this problem!
Also, when I try to open the PDF file in Firefox 3 it works. But I like it in IE8.
Any posts, comments, and answers will be appreciated. Thanks!

I think that there where some issues with adobe CS3 playing nice with leopard, though I dont know if any where specific to Acrobat. I would try to control click on the PDF and downloading it, then open preview and use its file open option to see if it will open the PDF that way.
    Luck

  • Some pdf files won't open in browser while others do - how to fix that?

    Hello,
just switched from Opera to Firefox and - with the help of some add-ons - feel pretty satisfied already.
One annoying problem though: While many pdf-files will open properly with PDF-XChange Viewer plugin within the browser, there are many websites with links to pdf files where the setting "Use PDF-XChange Viewer (within Firefox)" prompts Firefox to download the file instead.
    Examples:
    http://www.visitbritainshop.com/nordics/travel-transport/london-transport.html
The map of London Transport (link in the middle of the site) will open within the browser
    http://search.knightfrank.co.uk/ngh140118
The floorplan or the brochure won't open within the browser but be downloaded instead
I've never experienced this (in Opera) before.
What could be the reason for that? And is there a way to change it?
    Thanks in advance!

While trying to find a solution for that issue, I stumbled across a post that describes a similar problem with jpegs:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/979919
One reply suggests: "Are you sure that these images are send with a proper MIME type for images and not with a generic MIME type that makes Firefox show the "Open with" dialog? "
The suggested solution, an extension called Open-in-Browser https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-in-browser/
works fine regarding the pdfs in question, and is acceptable for me, although I agree with the poster from above, that " it is a bug that should be fixed instead of relying on an extension".

  • Using Adobe 8.1.2 some PDF files won't print

Since we've upgraded to the latest version of Reader, 8.1.2, some of the files won't print. For example, this morning I got two PDF files in the same email, they both opened in Reader, but only one of them prints--sending to a Canon ImageRunner 5570 printer/copier/fax machine. I'm not getting any error messages on my computer, it just doesn't print?
If I save a copy of the unprintable PDF to my desktop, then open in Acrobat 6.0 Standard (older version I know), it prints fine to the same printer.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Best, David.

We've been having the same problems printing to a Canon ImageRunner 4570, 8.1.2 won't print but 6 will. We can print to our other HP printer fine from 8.1.2, so it seems to be specific to the Canon. Tried printing from a shallow folder structure, but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Anyone heard if this is unique to the Canon printers? Thanks - Mike

  • Indesign-generated .pdf files won't print

I realize this question is vague to the point of being unanswerable, but here I go anyway.
Our department's publication person sent me a number of chapters of our book in progress so that I could print an uncorrected proof to show to our funding source. She emailed me .pdf files generated by InDesign CS2, probably, although it might have been CS3.
She also emailed me the indesign file for the frontmatter because I had some things to add, so the .pdf for that I generated myself.
I took everything to a local printer we regularly use. To print this job he was using a large commercial Canon setup I think. None of the .pdfs would print on it. He ended up having to print them all as images for the purposes of creating a proof for me.
Now, I printed all of them myself on our networked postscript printer, both from a Mac and a Windows machine, no problem.
Since the files had been emailed to me, and then to him, we thought maybe they got corrupted, so I brought them over on a disk, but that didn't help, not even the one file whose .pdf I generated myself would print.
So is this an issue that has come up--indesign-generated .pdf files being unprintable on a commercial printer but printable on a postscript machine.

    Dov and Al,
Yes, I'm sorry, I do realize that this isn't enough to diagnose a problem. I was hoping that this might be something that has come up before and someone would recognize.
As far as I could tell, he was opening up the print jobs in Acrobat and sending them to his printer, which had its own job monitor. When he consulted that monitor he just said, no, it won't print.
He's a smart guy and I've done a number of jobs with him that were generated in indesign, so I'm really at a loss to explain what has gone wrong with this one.

  • Pdf file won't be read out in Adobe Reader

Having tried unsuccessfully to get Reader Version 9 (with Read It Aloud plugin present and correct) to read a particular PDF file, I'm thinking that perhaps the problem is with the document properties...but in File>Document properties there is nothing obviously relating to speech.
Interestingly, the text in the document won't let itself be selected and copied either, which seems odd, and quite possibly related.
    Any suggestions?
    cheers

  • "MY" PDF files won't open on my website

I have a website hosted by Ipage.com. I created a PDF from Photoshop and another from Pagemaker 7 (acrobat distiller) both files open fine on my computer and other computers, but when I upload them to my website they won't open in the Internet Explorer Window.
I can view everyone else PDF's on every website I've visited, even downloaded a Free PDF template from another website and uploaded to my website to try and see if it was MY PDF's or just ALL PDF's. The Free PDF Template worked just fine on my website, so it's my PDF's that are the problem.
I've noticed any PDF I make has the Standard PDF icon and the filename.pdf. But the ones I have saved off websites have a preview of the document and say "Adobe Acrobate Document' underneath.
Using CS5, Pagemaker 7, Windows Vista...I have all the latest updates for adobe reader. What do I need to do to create web viewable PDF's?

Just a thought:  Your web server may not be returning the proper mime type to peoples' browsers for your published .pdf files.  If this is the case, there's nothing wrong with your files themselves.
In the root of your web server area you may need to add an .htaccess file to inform the web server (e.g., Apache) to return the mime type application/pdf for files with .pdf extensions.  The line in the file will look like this:
    AddType application/pdf .pdf
There's a lot of documentation on doing this on the web if you search for something like:  mime type in .htaccess
