PDF file won't save

Hi guys,
I got the Adobe Acrobat X program and whenever I try to save a PDF file and replace the existing file it would tell me "the file may be read only or another user may have it open".
I've been using adobe for 2 years and it has never showed this error message.
I uninsalled and reinstalled it- Didn't work.
I checked if it's on read only mode- and it's not..
It all of a sudded popped up this year..
And... I don't know what to do anymore!!!
Would love to get some help.
Liran.

Windows Explorer has Preview turned on in most cases. You can either close Windows Explorer or turn off the preview feature. Apparently windows is setting a flag with the preview that says the file is open and that is what Acrobat sees (or maybe it is something about Acrobat, don't know). In any case, the preview function usually causes this problem. You should still be able to save it to a new name, but that means an extra step.
Oh I didn't know what you meant by saying Windows Explorer at first, until I googled it and realized it's this window. Shame on me.
So yeah I started using the preview feature, it's really comfortable to use, and when I closed the feature it worked! No problems! ThanksBill@VT!
But is there any setting that I can change so I can leave the preview feature on and not having trouble with the saving thingy?

Since transfering my program to Win8, I have been unable to get my Adobe pdf documents to save. They just disappear after naming them.

  • PDF files won't save without renaming.

The files are not open anywhere else. I am opening the file adding a page, and trying to save. I am getting a message that I have to rename the file because it is open somewhere else. Normally it just closes and overwrites the original file.  I am using CS 4.

  • Pdf files won't open in Safari running on a Mac

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard in preparation for Lion and ever since the upgrade, pdf files won't open in Safari.  I have Reader 9.4.5.  It opens documents that are on my machine, it just won't open in Safari, nor do the documents download.

MIght be helpful to disable Adobe plugin by going to Adobe Reader's Preferences -> Internet and unchecking "Display PDF in browser using".
Then dump the atrocious bloated Reader.

  • Files won't save in folders

I just purchased Final Cut Studio today. I'm going through the tutorial and my files won't save in the folders created for the tutorial on my HD. I go to "send to" for Motion and Motion opens and asks for a data rate. Then when i choose one Motion opens it's window but there is no project. Any clue?

If you copied the files to your hard drive before working with them, make sure you have permission to both READ and WRITE to all the files involved. Highlight a file and hit Command i (Get Info) to see how the permissions are set. You can change them there if needed.

Suddenly my .pdf files won't open as LINKS
    www.alicesimpson.com

I just visited your site and under the LINKS page I was able to download a pdf file without problems. When you say it no longer opens as a link, do you mean that you want a pdf file to open in a new tab or window of your browser? If so, that is most likely a browser setting, not an iWeb setting.

  • PDF file won't open after saving it from the web.  get error message file is damaged.

My PDF files won't open after saving them to Docs from the web.  I get error message file is damaged. Can someone help me correct this problem on Mac Air w Mountain Lion?

I wonder if the image is being embedded somehow and there is not enough scratch disk space to render the file. Just a hunch. Check your hardrive to see how much free space is available. Also, check your RAM and see if you can upgrade ( install more, install much more ) to max out as much RAM as possible. At a minimum, check for fragmentation and do a "Correct Permissions" via Apple's Disk Utility.
But, weird things start happening when a font becomes corrupt. Not that one is, but it may be in your best interest to acquire a font management utility like Font Agent PRO ( if you don't have one already ). A good font management program can detect and disable corrupt fonts.
CS1 and OSX10.4 should be fairly compatable with the 7500, but you may have gone as far as you can go. Think about upgrading to a G4 or a G5. I believe the 7500 was pre G3 ( which I think is the minimum requirements for CS1 ).

  • PDF file won't open with double click

    Mac OSX 10.6.8/Acrobat 10.1.3.
Suddenly pdf files won't open with a double click, I now have to open Acrobat and file>open.
Also, once they're open, they won't close by clicking the red close dot, I now have to go to file>close.
    Very frustrating!

Even reinstalling doesn't work with the standard Creative Suite installer. Except for the double-click bug, Acrobat doens't respond to dock-tasks either, like <right-mouse-click> on dock icon and select <quit>.
In this version of Acrobat, the repair function doen't seem to exist anymore. Sadly....
So the problem keeps existing, even with the laterst 10.1.4 version.

  • CS4 Photoshop - saving on NAS storage - open file won't save without renaming it.

open file won't save without renaming it.  If you try to save a file that you have adjusted in CS4 Photoshop on a networked drive, it won't save it.  If you rename it, sure.  If you are working on the local drive it is not a problem.
By the way, we have 2 users in house.  Both on Mac systems and both are using CS4 Creative Suite.  One Mac is OSX 10.6.8 - the other is Mac OSX 10.8.3.  The older Mac system does not have a problem.
Is this a Mac operating system problem?  would upgrading to CS6 solve the issue for our Mac OSX 10.8 ?

THen another comes up saying "could not load the MMXCore routines module because it does not work with this version of photoshop ". The program opens and when I save my file as a .pdf it will only save as a jpeg but when Iook at the file extension It is a . jps and a .mpo . How do I correct this?

Did you copy/move some plugins from an older version of photoshop into the photoshop cs6 Plug-ins folder?
Or in the photoshop preferences, did you point the Additional plugins to an older version of photoshop?

  • Using Adobe 8.1.2 some PDF files won't print

Since we've upgraded to the latest version of Reader, 8.1.2, some of the files won't print. For example, this morning I got two PDF files in the same email, they both opened in Reader, but only one of them prints--sending to a Canon ImageRunner 5570 printer/copier/fax machine. I'm not getting any error messages on my computer, it just doesn't print?
If I save a copy of the unprintable PDF to my desktop, then open in Acrobat 6.0 Standard (older version I know), it prints fine to the same printer.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Best, David.

We've been having the same problems printing to a Canon ImageRunner 4570, 8.1.2 won't print but 6 will. We can print to our other HP printer fine from 8.1.2, so it seems to be specific to the Canon. Tried printing from a shallow folder structure, but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Anyone heard if this is unique to the Canon printers? Thanks - Mike

  • Watermark source file won't save in settings

I have successfully created several watermark images that have source files (both in PDF format and JPG format). But there is one that I cannot get to save. I have tried the image in both JPG and PDF formats, but for whatever reason, when I try to save the settings, the source file is not saved and it just comes up as blank text when I select it for use. I have tried over and over again to save this watermark.
As a result, whenever I want to apply this particular watermark, I have to go and browse for and find the file time and time again.
?? Any clue as to why this one won't save? Is there a maximum number of watermarks that can be saved?

You can look at the place where the settings are saved.
For Acrobat 8 and MS Vista the place is:
    X:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0\Preferences\Watermark

  • How do I get PDF files to *automatically* save as the file name provided by the source?

When I download a PDF file in Firefox, the file name changes from whatever name source used (e.g, important-report.pdf) to a miscellaneous group of characters (e.g., X2ba5zt.pdf). I often want to save the file using the 'source' name. I realize that can so do by changing the file name, but I would like to know if there is a way to set the default so that the source file name is used.

I am not seeing that behaviour. If I right-click a link to a .pdf file, I get the file saved with the original filename.
Maybe one of the settings in about:config controls that?
pdfjs.previousHandler.preferredAction is a setting that has a value of 4 with my setup. I have no idea what that means, and I could not find any explanation anywhere. You could try using different numbers for that value and see if any make any difference. Why has nobody bothered to explain that setting anywhere?
