PDF FILES ICON
Up until about the last 3 updates whenever I created a PDF file you could see exactly what was in it, however since the updates they are all just red with Adobe white logo. Anyone else having this problem? It's really annoying because you have to open each one to see exactly what's in there!!
Just check one thing:
1.Close all open windows so you are at your desktop.
2.Click on the start button and enter Regedit in the search field.
3.When User Account Control asks if you would like to allow this program to make changes, click on the Yes button.
4.Navigate to the following Registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
5.On the right pane, just check value of “IconsOnly” item.If its 1,right click on it and modify it to 0.If its already 0,there is some other problem L
6.Close the registry editor.Check if pdf preview has started coming in the thumbnails or not.

Acrobat Pro 9 - Disable thumbnail preview in PDF file icons on Desktop
After upgrading to Acrobat Pro 9, the file icons of PDF files on my Windows 7 desktop changed to showing a thumbnail preview. I want to get the standard PDF file icon back for all PDF files. Can someone please tell me how?

Opened Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options
Go to the View tab
Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
Hit Apply
All your PDF files on your desktop should now show with the generic PDF icon.
Reverse this to get the preview icon "thumbnails". -
IPAD3/IPAD2 :PDF files/ attachments sent in an email displayed inline ( embedded within the main email) in the message text on both my Ipad2 and Ipad three, however the same email displayed the PDF File icons/ attachment on both my Iphone and a friend’s PC. How do i get both my IPAD devices to display the PDF icons/attachments? Bearing in mind if i open the same email over the internet the PDF Icons/attachments display OK!
Has anyone come across this? Your advice/help would be most appreciatedThis happens to me all the time.
If is a one page PDF it seems as though it comes over already open and inline in the body of the email. Multiple page PDF files show as the PDF icon.
I can't find any official documentation of this - other than based on my own experience with PDF attachments in my various email accounts.

Pc is not recognize PDF file ( icon ) in emails and to open these it is loading a 3rd party program on the web. I have installed Adobe several times. To open my files I need to drag them to my Adobe program. any ideas??

This problem is on my laptop running Vista ( Business) on Adobe 10.0 , for many years I did NOT have a problem with this . No forum Pages on this.
Also i would like to know how screen readers can better interact with PDF as my wife has difficultys on some email attachments on her laptop , again there seems no easy avenue for someone in her situation surfing websites and forums for Hours maybe ok ok for sighted people, but not if you are blind & use a screenreader. No Support Help from Adobe is available.

Why pdf file icon shape changed?
Before I subscribe to Adobe ExportPDF, I tried to change pdf file to doc file without success. As a result, all existing pdf files' icon changed to something like doc file icon. How can I get the old pdf file icons back? If anyone knows, please let me know.

I installed generic Microsoft drivers for a new moniter, and all of my Acrobat file icons disappeared. Actually, all of my Adobe program icons disappeared as well, but I've been able to find some of them on my system. But while I still have the file icons for Illustrator and Photoshop (CS2), I can't seem to find how to get the PDF file icons back. I've tried changing the opening program to something else and changing back, that didn't help. I even tried to change the file type in the Explorer window and that didn't help. I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere, so I was hoping someone here knows what to do. I'm running Acrobat 7 on WinXP SE2.

[SOLVED] Acroread Modified All PDF File Icons To Its Icon
Hey guys,
I made the mistake of installing acroread and now that I've uninstalled it (yes, this happened after uninstalling acroread), it changed all the *.pdf file icons to its own icon.
I'm not sure how to revert it back to how it was before (eg. ebooks have the front cover as the icon, white-ish for normal pdfs). Does anybody know how to fix this?
I've also tried right clicking > open with other application in order to set the default application but the acrobat icon stays.
Last edited by devrepublic (2013-02-08 16:56:27)Hi ConnorBehan, thanks for the help but I figured out what was wrong. Somehow the poppler-glib package got uninstalled so Thunar wasn't able to display thumbnails for PDF. Reinstalling poppler-glib back fixed the issue.
And yes, just for future reference, the adobe icon is indeed part of the faenza icon theme. -
Please Help - PDF File icon No longer working???
Ok this may sound a bit wierd, but bare with me. Ok so I just got a new laptop because my old one was going a little wonky..... long story short, it's gone. So I was transfering some pdf files that I had backed up to an external drive onto my new system. Both systems are running on Windows 7 Ultimate. So in a folder I have a number of PDF's stored. When I open the folder I see all the files, but they all look the same, they all have the default Adobe reader icon. This is fine, but I would much rather have my old view back. I used to open the folder and see all of the Covers of the books that are in the pdf's. How can I get the covers to show as the file icon again as oposed to the Adobe file icon? There has to be something that I'm missing. Sorry to have rambled on. I look forward to hearing your sugestions.
Thanx for the suggestion. I did the steps that i found on google to create the enable/disable thumbnail option and changing it to enable, i can tell it has changed to enable because other file types show the thumbnails but the pdf files are still not showing.

Why are my PDF file icons/files missing from Docs?

I'm writing a film script on an old version of Final Draft (5) -it was working great until
a few weeks ago. Suddenly, all the PDF icons were gone when I went to look for saved PDF files.
I never write in PDF -it's just the standard way to send a script- however-the system every expects.
I can still "Save as" PDF however, after saving, that file doesnt appear in my list. When I open from
the Acrobat icon in the start menu, only a few files appear. I'm not even sure how I got
acrobat, if it just came free with this computer or if it came with my free trial month in July
when I down loaded Adobe Premiere (video editing) -- I'm ok paying $9 or whatever to sign

Pdf file icon issue [edited by host]
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. Updated to Reader 11.0.7.79 in May 2014. Now, in Windows Explorer, the icons for folders that contain pdfs show the pdfs as black squares. Previously existing icons still show the familiar adobe symbol within the folder icon. Why is this now happening? Thank you.

CS6 PSD and PDF file icons not appearing...
Currently using OSX Lion, and for some reason all other computers (win7 and Macs) on the network here where I work cannot see image icons anymore on the files that I save using CS6. This was never a problem before in previous versions of Photoshop and only seems to affect any os here that isnt LION, including Snow Lep and WinXP thru 7. When someone else is viewing the documents all they see is a grey box where the thumbnail would usually be.
It's causing a headache for some of the people here that I work with. So i'm bouncing back and forth between CS6 and CS4 (never upgraded to 5).
Any idea if there is a setting I need to change in this version of PS? Or is this a bug? Thanks!If you are referring to the thumbnails, see link below. You should see a general PS icon though.
The preview was causing problems on MacOS and Windows, so it was removed.

How to create ICon/Cursor from pdf files
I was able to create ICon from jpg file without problem but I couldn't create ICon from pdf files.

My goal is to create buttons which have icons from a pdf file (stamp) and when user click on these buttons, the cursors become the icon . And then, when user click on the document, the iCon will be showed in the document. The point is: is there anyway to create icons/cursors/stamps from one pdf file. Because the stamp is changeable, when user changes the color/shape of the pdf file, the icons/cursors/stamps will automatically change
What kind of pdf format do I have to use?
I used the sample "SignHere.pdf" in stamps folder of Acrobat but it didn't work.
Thanks.The SDK has all the information - but certainly there are only samples for those common actions that users have been doing for years. Most developers don't recreate stuff already present in the application - such as the Stamp plugin - so we don't have samples of such things.
But all the pieces you need are present in the SDK - it's just necessary obvious. You will need to learn about the details of how the plugin APIs work to create the toolbars and toolbuttons, and then how to handle cursors. You will then need to learn about PDF details in order to be able to take an existing PDF, potentially modify it (eg. Change the color(s)) and then place it onto another PDF.
The methods you listed are from JavaScript - there are alternative methods for plugins, such as the AVConversion APIs. -
I just noticed that all of my pdf file icons have changed to the iTunes icon.
Would anyone have any idea why this may have happened and how to change them back?
There are no problems with opening or viewing the files - they still open in Preview - but in the Finder they show up as the iTunes icon? Any ideas?

Preview icon is kept inside Preview application package. control-click on Preview.app and select "show package contents". go to Contents->Resources. the file is called preview.icns. However, there is no way that file got substituted by the itunes icon. Morte likely something is wrong with the Launch services database.
Try the following. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and log out/in. if that doesn't help run the following command in terminal
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user -
Installation of adobe reader causes existing icons to be converted to pdf files
After installing Adobe from a download allmy desktop items were changed to adobe (pdf) icons. I had to uninstall in order to chane them back to their former status and consequently cannot have adobe reader on my machine until the problem of "converting" on instALLATION isfixed
