PDF files in e-tester

I just taught a new script that looks at and opens a series of PDF files. during the testing everything came up as it should, PDF files opened and displayed. During playback, the external window hangs, and the PDF file(s) never open. I can't find any sort of setting to take care of this, and I have looked at another monitor that performs the same function, but can't see any obvious differences.
Interestingly, the PDF files will open fine in playback, if I manually click on the link for them.
Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks.
...Bob

Ah thin mode, I see. You actually don't need to play the scripts back in tester. I learned that thin mode uses a different playback method and it is not necessary to run them back in tester. If you want to test the scripts you can use a tool called navigation editor (Ctrl-E), which will run scripts back in thin client mode.

  • PDF download worked in FFox3 but not in 4. Do I have to wait for a new plug in for PDF files?

I was downloading monthly statements from mutual fund firms. Firefox 4.0 worked fine with the T Rowe Price web site (they must not do anything tricky), but does not work with Fidelity. Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that what Fidelity is offering is really a PDF file. I tested the same action with my same computer and Safari as the browser which worked fine, and I tested the same action with my same computer and Firefox 3.6.16 and it, too, worked fine. Your help screen for PDF files suggest I download "Firefox PDF plugin extension" but when I get there, it says a version for FFox 4 is not available. I probably have that added to my 3.6.16 version and that's why it works there. So I guess I just have to use a different browser until that plugin is available. But it is another puzzle why TRowePrice makes it work with 4.0 and Fidelity doesn't.
Do you have a better suggestion than "just wait" ?

I have never herd of Verizon adding an additional account especially since new account required both a credit check and your signature. Anyway this is a customer to customer forum so I'm not sure how you expect other customers to help you.

  • Printing a pdf file via OLE

    Hi,
Is it possible to print a pdf file i.e. test.pdf via VB using the properties/methods held within theACRORD32.DLL? or is this only possible if you have the full adobe Acrobat product installed?
If possibe any example code would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for this, having a look through at the moment, just one question do I have to install this SDK just to automatically print an existing PDF document from a 3rd party application when I have only the Reader installed?
    Thanks

  • Preview 8.0 stops pdf file text from being text

I have pdf files that contain only text.
I find that with Preview 8.0, once I have annotated the file in any way, the text in the file stops being recognised as text (that's the best way I can describe it). It only happens when I reopen the file after closing it. I cannot copy or paste anything, nor will there be any results when I try to search for a keyword. And when I highlight any text and right-click it, the menu shows Look Up "" (the quotations contain a null string) where the dictionary function is. The text in the same file cannot be read by another pdf reader I have either.
The only other Preview version I have used is 5.5.6 (or something like that, a much older version of Preview anyway) and it did not do anything like that to my pdf files.
Is there a solution to this? Is it even possible to reverse this effect (i.e. text stops being text) on my pdf files?

Further testing revealed that I only have this problem with this one particular pdf file. The problem does not happen with other pdf files that I have. I guess something is wrong with that particular file, though I don't know what. But now I understand why I did not find others complaining about this – it's only happening to me and that file.

  • How to open a popup win within a PDF file (c:\test.pdf) as Column Link

I have a interactive report based on a Table (EMP). I need to create a column link that opens a pdf file within the employee curricula
All the curriculum are stored in a windows folder, and in the EMP table there is a field named PATH containing the full path name.
    Thxs,
    Giuseppe.

    Hello, Sebastian
I've tested your suggestion and in effect it works.
I think is good solution if the files are readonly (pdf, images, etc).
In my case the files are updatable by the end user.
Consider that I'm using the following configuration:
APEX 4.0, DB 11.2.0.1 and EPG
    This means that:
    a. All the files need to be loaded in the XML_DB via PL/SQL or via WebDAV (let's say in... /i/mydocs)
    b. When the end user opens the file via the "Column link" this is read-only in the browser, to modify it, the end user need to save updated version in (/i/mydocs), replacing the existing ones, .. and this is a bit complicated .
Any other suggestion will be appreciate.
    Regards,
    Giuseppe.

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • I can't open a PDF file stored in dropbox or log in from Firefox. I've tested in Chrome so the files are there.

I'm creating a funnel for a client and have uploaded a PDF file to her dropbox account. When I test the process in Firefox, I can't log in to her dropbox nor will the PDF file display when I test it from Firefox.
When I switch to Chrome, I can both open her dropbox account without issue and open the individual PDF file without issue. Since I have no idea what browser her prospects are using, I'm doing some testing.
If you need more info to troubleshoot, please let me know! I'm happy to provide whatever I can.
Note: I can't log in to ANY dropbox account from firefox (including my own or those of other clients I work with).
    Laugh lots, Love more!
    MamaRed

For Firefox users, there might be a built in pdf viewer, or a preferred viewer that handles pdf files.
I am not having any trouble logging in, so lets try this:
    * Remove any cookies from the cache: [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer]]
*[[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] if there is stored user data that is removed in this process: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?

Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?
How much the upgrade process depends of database size, in this case?
    I have fast boxes  IBM AIX 5.3 , 64 b.

    Appreciate your comments ...
Yes, sound stupid, regarding test environment, but in reality, is not that much:
-I do have "preprod" environment, (2 instances RAC) same releases of OS, OCW,RAC ... but DB size is 40 GB!!!  It has all the objects as production, but (again but) it does not have physical standby, as production has. This is not that unusual, knowing that production DB grows very fast, and very large, and business do not want to keep preprod, dev, test databases same HUGE size as production is. Savings ...
-My DB upgrade depends if application  running on top of it is certified for higher RDBMS release ... looks like they have some problems.
-Very encouraging sounds comment that DB upgrade does not depend that much of the DB size ...
    - i do not recall from where this info came, but I have heard that R 11.* treats PDF files in different way that R10 did it ... and because of that, process of upgrading big databases which have many items of that type (pdf) can take very long. Any idea about this?
-Brian, thx ... I'm trying hard to provide DB simmilar size in UPG environment and face all possible pitfalls before I go in production...thx for youe advice. I'm relly interested in how upgrade to 11.* from 10.* traets my pdf-s ... All my TBs comming from pdfs. Everi advice will be wellcome ...

  • Best way to test suspicious PDF files?

I was wondering what the safest way to test suspicious PDF files was.  I was also wondering how to qualify a PDF as suspicious.  I was using PDFid to scan a PDF and I found it had 1 acroform and 1 openaction.  It didn't say it had javascript, but I was reading that acroform can let you use certain javascript.
Does xpdf support javascript?  Would it be safe to open a pdf in xpdf assuming it had no libtiff exploit or what have you?
    Input would be greatly appreciated.

You could run qemu-kvm or virtualbox and open the PDF within there. This won't tell you whether a PDF file is dangerous though, unless it does something really obvious (e.g. crash the virtual machine or delete all your files).
You could also try use Mandatory Access Control, such as TOMOYO Linux, AppArmor or SELinux. The advantage of these is that you will also be able to tell if the PDF is doing something suspicious by looking at audit logs, and you also won't have to fire up a virtual machine every time. Disadvantage is that you have to learn how to use these powerful security tools. TOMOYO Linux and AppArmor are much easier to learn than SELinux, but SELinux has a tool specifically designed for sandboxing. TOMOYO Linux 2.3 is also already in the [community] repo (just do pacman -S tomoyo-tools). See the wiki pages for more information:
    TOMOYO Linux
    AppArmor
    SELinux
Ah, cool!  I've heard of AppArmor before.  SELinux sounds familiar and I'm glad to hear it has a sandbox.  Haven't heard of TOMOYO, but I'm excited to learn about it.
    Thanks!

  • Automating the process of comparing two PDF file with the help of QTP(Automation Testing Tool)

Can anybody help me with comparing the two pdf files with the help of QTP.I have Adobe Acrobat installed on my system and i have access to the API.
    Thanks,
    Varun Saini

I want to find out more about QTP and API. Maybe that is what I want to compare two mechanical drawings for differences between them. (see “More than one pdf file in one window”. Is that what you are looking to do? 9Not necessarily mechanical drawings but some other pdf).

  • Cannot view pdf files on some site but Adobe plug-in test sites work and it is uo to date. What is wrong? Using FF5 under XP

A new Firefox window is opened when I click on pdf file but it is blank with no menu or toolbars. Have enabled plug-in and it seems ok.

I do not recall anything specific about other extensions preventing pdf use, so you will have to try them all. But first of all check again, just incase you merely needed to clear the cache and it is working again !
The quickest method is to repeatedly slice into 1/2s until you find the guilty add-on
Disable 1/2 of your add-ons and see if it works, if not working you know it is one of those you did not disable, disable 1/2 of them. (So you now have 3/4 disabled )
It is also probably a good idea to at the same time check add-ons and plugins are up-to date.
    * Use Firefox button -> Add-ons |check plugins are up to date| <br/> or alternatively the link https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

  • A simple and free way of reducing PDF file size using Preview

Note: this is a copy and update of a 5 year old discussion in the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard discussions which you can find here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/6109398#6109398
This is a simple and free solution I found to reduce the file size of PDFs in OS X, without the high cost and awful UI of Acrobat Pro, and with acceptable quality. I still use it every day, although I have Acrobat Pro as part of Adove Creative Cloud subscription.
Since quite a few people have found it useful and keep asking questions about the download location and destination of the filters, which have changed since 2007, I decided to write this update, and put it in this more current forum.
Here is how to install it:
Download the filters here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41548940/PDF%20compression%20filters%20%28Un zip%20and%20put%20in%20your%20Library%20folder%29.zip
Unzip the downloaded file and copy the filters in the appropriate location (see below).
Here is the appropriate location for the filters:
This assumes that your startup disk's name is "Macintosh HD". If it is different, just replace "Macintosh HD" with the name of your startup disk.
If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion (OS X 10.7.x or 10.8.x) then you should put the downloaded filters in "Macintosh HD/Library/PDF Services". This folder should already exist and contain files. Once you put the downloaded filters there, you should have for example one file with the following path:
    "Macintosh HD/Library/PDF Services/Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION.qfilter"
If you are running an earlier vesion of OS X (10.6.x or earlier), then you should put the downloaded filters in "Macintosh HD/Library/Filters" and you should have for example one file with the following path:
"Macintosh HD/Library/Filters/Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION.qfilter"
Here is how to use it:
Open a PDF file using Apple's Preview app,
Choose Export (or Save As if you have on older version of Mac OS X) in the File menu,
    Choose PDF as a format
In the "Quartz Filter" drop-down menu, choose a filter "Reduce to xxx dpi yyy quality"; "Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION" is a good trade-off between quality and file size
    Here is how it works:
These are Quartz filters made with Apple Colorsinc Utility.
    They do two things:
downsample images contained in a PDF to a target density such as 150 dpi,
enable JPEG compression for those images with a low or medium setting.
Which files does it work with?
It works with most PDF files. However:
It will generally work very well on unoptimized files such as scans made with the OS X scanning utility or PDFs produced via OS X printing dialog.
It will not further compress well-optimized (comrpessed) files and might create bigger files than the originals,
For some files it will create larger files than the originals. This can happen in particular when a PDF file contains other optomizations than image compression. There also seems to be a bug (reported to Apple) where in certain circumstances images in the target PDF are not JPEG compressed.
What to do if it does not work for a file (target PDF is too big or even larger than the original PDF)?
First,a good news: since you used a Save As or Export command, the original PDF is untouched.
You can try another filter for a smaller size at the expense of quality.
The year being 2013, it is now quite easy to send large files through the internet using Dropbox, yousendit.com, wetransfer.com etc. and you can use these services to send your original PDF file.
There are other ways of reducing the size of a PDF file, such as apps in the Mac App store, or online services such as the free and simple http://smallpdf.com
    What else?
Feel free to use/distribute/package in any way you like.

    Thanks ioscar.
The original link should be back online soon.
I believe this is a Dropbox error about the traffic generated by my Dropbox shared links.
I use Dropbox mainly for my business and I am pretty upset by this situation.
Since the filters themsemves are about 5KB, I doubt they are the cause for this Dropbox misbehavior!
Anyway, I submitted a support ticket to Dropbox, and hope everything will be back to normal very soon.
In the meantime, if you get the same error as ioscar when trying to download them, you can use the link in the blog posting he mentions.
This is out of topic, but for those interested, here is my understanding of what happened with Dropbox.
I did a few tests yesterday with large (up to 4GB) files and Dropbox shared links, trying to find the best way to send a 3 hour recording from French TV - French version of The Voice- to a friend's 5 year old son currently on vacation in Florida, and without access to French live or catch up TV services. One nice thing I found is that you can directly send the Dropbox download URL (the one from the Download button on the shared link page) to an AppleTV using AirFlick and it works well even for files with a large bitrate (except of course for the Dropbox maximum bandwidth per day limit!). Sadly, my Dropbox shared links were disabled before I could send anything to my friend.
I may have used  a significant amount of bandwidth but nowhere near the 200GB/day limit of my Dropbox Pro account.
I see 2 possible reasons to Dropbox freaking out:
    - My Dropbox Pro account is wronngly identified as a free account by Dropbox. Free Dropbox accounts have a 20GB/day limit, and it is possible that I reached this limit with my testing, I have a fast 200Mb/s internet access.
    - Or Dropbox miscalculates used bandwidth, counting the total size of the file for every download begun, and I started a lot of downloads, and skipped to the end of the video a lot of times on my Apple TV.

  • Error While Opening PDF File in SAP Inbox

    Hello Experts,
I am facing a weird error in SAP Inbox while opening a PDF files (both created by custom ABAP programs as well as the one attached to a new SAP Inbox message from my desktop & sent to my Inbox as a test).
The error states that "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.".
I checked TCode DC30 also & found an appropriate program is already maintained for PDF.
I couldn't make out more out of this error message. Any inputs in this regard will be highly appreciable.
    Regards,
    Shaurya

    Hi,
Find out the FM that's generating the actual error through de-bug and analyze the same by looking in OSS and or SDN.
