PDF Files in Safari
In the "good old days," Safari used to open all PDF files in a window within Safari, using an Acrobat product by default, and without asking me each time what application I wanted to use.
Now, after some software crashes, Safari asks me to pick an application each and every time it tries to open a PDF within Safari. I choose Adobe Acrobat Professional (v 8.1.0) and all works fine for just that occasion; however, I still must choose Acrobat each and every time in the future.
Any suggestions (I looked under preferences in Safari but missed it if it was there) as to how to set Safari to always use Acrobat to open all PDFs within Safari?

Are you working on a stand alone at work ??, or is it that all the computer are connected to a network server?
If it is the last on than you have to talk to the IT-people how to activate PDF's in Safari.
When you are working on a stand alone than the best is to re-install Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.0
Or when this is not possible than you can use the Schubert plug-in

I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat
but when I open a web page that I need to allow me to display and modify PDF files it is not working.

but after the new installation with this folder is completely empty and I am still
unable to open these pdf.

Cannot open embedded Adobe PDF files in Safari 5.1
I am disgusted to find that Apple has removed Safari's ability to open embedded PDF files in Safari 5.1. This is a huge mistake by Apple, and the only work around from Adobe was to use a different browser.

I can no longer open pdf files in safari 6.02.
SAFARI CAN'T OPEN PDF'S ?
I can no longer open pdf files in safari 6.02. It worked fine up until 2 weeks ago. The pdf's open in Foxfire and Chrome browsers.
I can also download the pdf and open in acrobat directly. Safari only shows the file as ASCII characters.
Any suggestions?

From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
Can no longer view pdf files in Safari
Adobe viewer installed. Was working okay. Upon first "download" of pdf file, had pop-up window to locate Adobe Reader application. Then pdf files were opened in Safari with Adobe Reader controls across the top of the Safari window.
For no apparent reason, can no longer view pdf in Safari. The URL for the pdf file appears in the Safari URL, but the Safari window is blank. No pop-up window to locate Adobe Reader application during first "download" of pdf file. Safari Help --> Installed Plug-ins shows Adobe Reader for pdf. Can download pdf file by highlighting URL and then pressing Option-Return.

Try uninstalling the current copy of Adobe Reader first.
Best to use a utility to do this to make sure all the associated files are removed as well > Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
Then reinstall > http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. -
Can't open pdf files in Safari for Windows
Hi, I haven't been able to open pdf files in Safari - each time I click on a pdf link, a new tab opend and then a pop-up window says "can't open Adobe" (or something like that), and then Safari crashes. I've read that the solution is to install Adobe Reader 8, but I can't because I already have Adobe Acrobat which doesn't seem to work with safari. Does anyone know a way to view pdf files in Safari for windows?
Try to uninstall and after that install Acrobat Reader 8 again.

Unable to print PDF Files in Safari 5.1
Hi,
1) Running Snow Leopard v10.6.8. Downloaded Safari v5.1. I now cannot print or save pdf files within Safari. I can view them okay, but the error message I get when trying to save a pdf file (which is a program document for a photo expo after it has loaded okay into Safari) is:
The document “BIFB broadsheet program.pdf” could not be exported as “BIFB broadsheet program.pdf”.
This is the same error message regardless of the pdf file downloaded into Safari (apart from the file name of course).
Also, trying to print any downloaded pdf results in a blank page full of black (rather than white). ie, I cannot print anything either.
2) Using Firefox v5.0.1, everything worked fine, ie. I can print and save pdf files without a problem.
3) Adobe reader is loaded on my system but I don't use it. I removed a plug-in for Safari called 'AdobePDFViewer.plugin' but it made no difference.
Any ideas?
I am a tad loathe to update to Lion at the moment and will wait for the next dot update.

SteveI visited a "genius" in the Apple Store, Leicester, this morning. After some playing around he seems to have sorted it. Apparently - now they tell me! - you don't need Adobe Reader on Macs as the Mac has its own pdf reader built-in. Safari 5.1 is now clashing with Reader and the best approach is to remove Reader - and the relevent preference files. I took one of my MBPs into the store and am just checking it out to see if everything is now ok. I'm now planning to make the changes on my other machine and will report back. (The genius said that my best approach was to bring in the second MBP but I'm not very convenient to Leicester so I'm going to give it whirl myself.)
Wish me luck.
But why did we load Reader in the first place? Are we that unusual in the Mac community? Surely, others must have done the same and are having the same problem with Safari 5.1??? -
Cannot view PDF files within Safari 6.0.1
I have lost the ability to view PDF files within the safari web browser. When I press on a link to a PDF file a blank/black screen will appear. If I right click on the page I have the ability to Save the PDF file and then I can open it in preview.
I also have AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin installed in ~Library/Internet Plug ins/ ... folder.
I have tried deleting these files and restarting Safari but nothing seems to be working. I have tried installing the PDF Browser plugin form Schubert to no avail

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore. It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version. Please help? I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select

How to Zoom in and Out on PDF files in Safari?
Safari help is not helpful since it gives inaccurate information on how to Zoom in and Out on a PDF file that has opened in Safari. The help says to control click the page and choose the zooming level you desire. However control clicking the PDF file in Safari brings up a save page box. I tried some of the other keys with clicking and they did not work. Thanks in advance to those who helped me save a PDF file to the desktop so I can view in Preview.- But often I just need to be able to zoom in to read the tiny text that is displayed.

When I control key click on the image- a pop up menu comes up asking me to save the image to deskotp- add it my image library and 2 other save options. No zoom in or Zoom out. I only have an apple pro mouse and my track pad- so right clicking isn't an option.
