Pdf files to be usable in fcp

Hi
I have 3 large pdf files containing picts and i would like to use them in an FCP project.
should i open it in photoshop and save it in the format appropriate for fcp if so what is the best format knowing that my sequence is set to apple pro res 422 HQ.
thank you

what are your sequence settings?
In Photoshop, you have various presets available...
If you will be doing any zooming in you can make the image twice as big as your pixel dimensions... just no bigger than 4000 pixels (preferably smaller)

    Well, fortunately, the things you don't miss outnumber by far those that you miss... Or so it seems to me on reading your posts here.

  • Importing pdf files into fcp?

    i'm starting a music project that will have on-screen music notation (staffs & notes). this music notation currently exists as pdf files which the client wants to provide. i'm thinking that pdf's are not the right way to go. which graphic format should they convert these pdf's to that would provide the highest quality remembering that music staffs & notes have very thin lines that are prone to "buzzing." any other tips appreciated. thanks.

    You can import pdf into Final Cut Pro, although TIFF and PNG are preferred.
    Bear in mind that however large you make the images, they will be rendered to the video codec and pixel dimensions that you set up in FCP. Going to DVD will add further compression.
    Might it be an option to make your images as a long horizontal strip which moves from right to left across the screen? That way you can make the notes much larger and get around the buzzing lines problem.

  • When I convert my PDF file to either Word or Excel, the result is garbage and not usable.  What am I doing wrong?

    I have converted two PDF files to both Word and Excel.  The result is garbage and unreadable.  I want to edit the content of the PDF file and thought that this was the solution.  What am I doing wrong?

    It's probably not something wrong you're doing, just the way the file was
    created. You can look under File - Properties - Description and see what
    application and PDF producer were used to generate it. My guess is it was
    not produced using Adobe software.
    At any rate, there's no a lot you can do about it, I'm afraid. You can try
    re-frying it, ie sending it to the PDF Printer to produce a new copy, and
    then exporting that to Word/Excel, but that's about it.

  • Any way to compress or simplify imported PDF file made with autocad ?

    Hello guys
    I'm working on some layouts for property developer, and the architect who prepare all the floor plans, elevations etc... gave me bunch of PDF files, which I find really hard to use.
    These are vector files, fairly small, from 500kb to 1mb, but despite their simple look, they are extremly complex and made of huge number of vectors.
    Every single line is made of tens separate lines. To help you visualize, try to imagine 5cm stright line made of 2mm segments. It's very hard to select anything as it takes millions
    of clicks just to clear small parts I don't need. Even a DOT in text content (project description and layout info) is made of 6 to 10 tiny vectors.
    Secondly, there are millions of cliping masks. Whenever I select something to delete, I keep clearing unrelated parts of the drawing in totally different locations. I select tiny line
    at the bottom of the elevation, and somewhere on top a tiny part of window will disapear... Releasing the cleaping masks is very time consuming...
    My question is, can I import that PDF and export in some way to simplyfi, combine and minimize the number of vectors, the reimport the file to AI so it's more friendly to work with?
    This has been wasting so much of my time, it's driving me crazy, top that, I have really well powered machine that handles files mach larger with ease, but it become barely usable
    when I open these vector based PDFs. I single scroll or zoom in/out takes 30 to 50 seconds to refresh...
    These files are killing me, please help
    thank you for taking the time to read and sincerely hope you can share your expertise.
    best regards
    Mona

    When I have no other option, I convert CAD drawings to high-res images and use PS or another image editor to remove unwanted items. This is usually fast and unobtrusive to the client.
    This all is far faster and easier to do in another CAD application. When I can, I have requested either subsets of the original DWGs or DXFs because because my work--hence what I will bill out--is far faster with the originals. Then the cleaned up versions are PDF'd  for placement.
    If I have to leave the drawings as vector and cannot obtain WG or DXF versions, I load them separately in Illy and en masse deleted as much as possible to get past the worse of the sluggishness. I join as many of the lines as possible and group sections. I do a few Save As along the way to dump undo.
    Take care, Mike

  • What are the specs to validate a PDF file? is there a PDF validator available from Adobe?

    I have the following situation: In our company use a software product to schedule our engineers and inform our customers when one of our engineers visits them, to do this the following steps happen:
    the software product is running on a SQL server 2008 R2 database and calls a standard function from SQL server to create a PDF file (PDF version 1.3)
    Then this PDF file is attached to an Email which is then sent to our customers.
    Some customers don't use email but they use a fax. For this we have use an email2fax product from our telephone provider which translates the email to a fax.
    When the software product creates the email, attaches the PDF and sends it to the email2fax solution the attached is discarded.
    The email2fax should send the attachment as well but it's not doing that.
    When I manually send an email with an attached PDF (PDF version 1.5) the attachment is sent to the customer as a fax
    When I open the original PDF file created by SQL server and save it again as PDF version 1.5, then attach it to an email and send it to the email2fax the attachment gets send as well.
    When I open the original PDF file created by SQL server and save it again as PDF version 1.3, then attach it to an email and send it to the email2fax the attachment gets send as well.
    When we send the email from the software product, with the PDF created by SQL server in version 1.3, to another email address the attachment is included in the mail.
    some conclusions so far:
    The PDF file in version 1.3 is created in SQL server and is usable in all products which read PDF files, except in the email2fax solution
    the email to the email2fax software contains the PDF attachment
    the email2fax software can handle a PDF version 1.3 file but not the file created by SQL server.
    We gave these results to the supplier of the email2fax solution and their response is: "A PDF file is a valid PDF file when it is created by Adobe software"
    My conclusion would be that they are wrong as PDF is a standard created by Adobe but that doesn't mean other software products can't comply with this standard and create a valid PDF file, but I have no way of telling them how they are wrong and without a stronger argument I can't convince them to investigate the problem.
    extra info:
    Portable Document Format - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    My questions are now:
    Is there a PDF validation tool available from Adobe which would confirm that our PDF file generated by SQL server is a valid PDF file?
    Or
    Does anyone know if SQL server 2008R2 does create invalid PDF files and if there is a fix available to solve this behavior?
    Any help in understanding this problem is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for your reply and your time reading this long question.
    Regards,
    Arjen

    It is a high order probability that your SQL's report generator is creating the PDF, not Acrobat (which by design and EULA cannot be used in as/with server).
    That the report generator outputs to an old-old version of PDF bears this out.
    Wiki articles on PDF are very nice for those high level intro summaries.
    To know / understand PDF you purchase and study the ISO Standard for PDF (ISO 32000-1:2008).
    Rather than "PDF validation" you may want to consider addressing the appearent root cause of the problem(s).
    You can change the email2fax application to one that can deal with older PDF versions.
    You can change the report generator to one that can output to the ISO Standard.
    (Perhaps the in-use application can be configured to output to the current version of PDF (i.e., the ISO Standard).

  • Getting Page Count for a Multi-Page PDF file using Illustrator script?

    Does anyone know how to get the page count of a multi page PDF file?  I know you can then open each page using the PDFFileOptions (pagetoopen).  But I need to know up front how many pages there are to loop thru to open each page and process each page.
    Any Ideas?

    This script i did for photoshop:
    OK so lets do it working on WIN and MAC without any shell script.
    This solution is not the best but its working.
    I used Try catch to solve it.
    Only issue is that you should at least somehow know how many pages you expect in pdf.. this mean if you are working with books or flyers...
    Then set the maxPagesCount to that number.
    I am working with pdfs with max 20pages.. so i start open the 20 then 19 then 18 and when i am success i know the amount of pages.
    Its not the quicker way but its usable.
    var maxPagesCount = 20;
    var actPagesCount = maxPagesCount;
    var opts1 = new PDFOpenOptions();
    opts1.usePageNumber = true;
    opts1.antiAlias = true;
    opts1.bitsPerChannel = BitsPerChannelType.EIGHT;
    opts1.resolution = 10; //it will load faster the test page
    opts1.suppressWarnings = true;
    opts1.cropPage = CropToType.MEDIABOX;
    myFunction = function () {
      try {
          app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.NO;
          var fileList = openDialog();
          for (i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
            actPagesCount = maxPagesCount;
            getPagesCount(fileList[i],maxPagesCount);
            alert(actPagesCount);
      } catch (exception) {
        alert(exception);
    getPagesCount = function (checkFile, lastPageID) {
      try {
        for (var checkPage = lastPageID; checkPage > 0; checkPage--) {
          opts1.page = checkPage;
          var docRef = open(checkFile, opts1, false);
          docRef.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
          actPagesCount = lastPageID;
          return;
          checkPage=0;
      } catch (exception) {

  • Save data in PDF file

    hi,
    Using Adobe Life cycle Designer 7.1, I have created a PDF Form Template.But when I enter some data in the form ,I am not able to save the details in the form .I am able to save only the blank form.I want to create a callable object of intercative form type and initiate a workflow.Why am I not able to save the pdf file with data?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Shamila

    hi i hope you are not trying to save the PDF while developing the application itself...(in NETWEAVER... )??
    the usable form in which you can actually save data should be obtained by running the application and NOT going to Interactive form->edit->pdf view.
    make the application and deploy it. when you get the blank form by deploying it, SAVE it, from the browser....
    i guess this should solve the problem.
    you can mail me at [email protected]

  • The scan's to PDF file can not be printed

    Hello,
    Im have an Mac running on Mac Os X 10.7.3
    I bought a HP officejet PRO 8500 A910.
    The printer is installed and works fine if a want to print a document or a picture. The scanner also works.
    BUT there is a problem.
    When I scan a document in my HP scanner to a PDF file. This PDF file can not be printed. When I send it to other people's computer, the can also read it on screen, but not print.
    The printer gives an error :  Unable to covert PostScript file. (see screenshot).
    Can anyone help me? I want to scan usable PDF documents that can be printed by anyone.
    Thank you.

    This question was solved.

    The solution given was to convert to image. Then it is no longer a PDF! The printer worked fine until I upgraded to 10.9. Did the change in drivers eliminate the PPD? I can print PDF's from Preview just fine. Will HP be updating the driver to include the proper PPD?  As an aid to troubleshooting, what files should be present in the Library for correct PDF printing? This is happening on both my 8500 and 8610.

  • Can Acrobat create a PDF file not viewable after some date and/or number of times being opened?

    Is it possible to restrict the usability of a PDF file in such fashion, regardless of which Adobe product tries to open the file, especially even when the file is opened with Acrobat Reader for example? If yes, does it require accessing Adobe's website or the solution could be totally 'stand alone'?
    Any other ideas about restricting the usage of a PDF file,  using Acrobat or any other tool?

  • How to convert a PDF file into a full editable WORD file?

    Hi,
    I tried to convert a pdf file into word but it is not fully editable. I can edit the title from the main page and that's it. The rest of the word document is saved as image. I tried editing teh pdf file but that one is not working either.
    Please help on how to convert a PDF file into a full editable WORD file.
    Thank you

    Not all PDF files are created equal.  When a PDF file is created with Adobe Tools it is usually "tagged" with information about the fonts the images, the layout etc...    This way when the PDF is saved to a new format like PPT or DOC then the results are usually usable.  However, if you have a PDF file that was not tagged for some reason then run the Accessibility tools on the PDF to acquire some basic tagging.  This may get you a better result.  Also if you have a PDF that is an image, then you may want to run OCR on it.
