PDF font/typeface display problem

Hello. The company I work for was hired as a contractor to create an online training program. We created it in Word and sent the .docx files to the client to put up on their system. They converted the files into PDFs and uploaded them.
The problem is the PDFs they created from the Word docs are barely readable. We used Times New Roman but obviously something went wrong during the conversion process.
What is causing this problem and is there anything that can be done to fix it? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Chin
* Ensure that the font you used to develop the report exists on the Server system.
* Inspect uifont.ali to see if you have any font substitution for the font you are using in
your report.

  • 10.6.8 combo & 10.6.7 pdf fonts problem

    Does the 10.6.8 update combo correct the pdf fonts problem that was inherent to 10.6.7?  After a couple days of stress I had to do the lengthy 10.6.7 uninstall process in order to refine my doctoral dissertation.  This has made me gun-shy & fearful of updates.  Is it safe to update now?

    The combo should fix your problem.  As always have a back-up in case you have to revert.

  • PDF font problem on Solaris (Reports9i)

    Hi.
    We are recently moving our application from 9ias Release 1 to 9ias Relese 2. After several configuration problems I was managet to get most of it to running, but encountered big problem with Reports. In Reports6i we used font aliasing, and included several modified fonts with AcrobatReader3. With AcrobatReader5 it's not posible because of more strict checking of PDF standard.
    Then of course with Reports9i we start using PDF font subsetting. After added several ttf's (Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman) it started working fine with one exception. Report created with plain Courier New 10pts is not subsetted - in pdf i receive fixed-bold 12 pts.
    It happening only with this one size of font. Courier New with size 10 pts and bold or italic looks good. When I change size to 9 or 11 pts - it's ok. I've checked if fonts existed in Xserver - they are.
    I double checked uifont.ali - it's ok. I've temporarily solved the problem by changing font in builder on Windows from Courier New to Courier (same size), and then everything works ok. Of course it might be solving - but for the amount of work (about 200 reports) I'm looking for more 'normal' solution.
    Any ideas?
    Reports server working on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8, 9ias Release 2 (Patch 2).
    Builder works on WindowsXP, 9ids Release 2 (Patch2).
    Czesiek.

    Reports 6 or Reports 9? Note that Reports 6 does not generate
    syntactically correct RTF for Unicode characters.
    We've been running with a postprocessor to correct the RTF and
    to change the Oracle-set font to Arial; I'll be watching to see if
    there's a better way since our postprocessor shouldn't be needed.

  • PDF display problem in Iframe

    I have a main JSF page MainPage.jsp.
    User clicks on a button in this main page and a new JSF page ChildPage.jsp is opened in another window.
    The ChildPage.jsp has some data in it and also has 3 iframes and each of them again is a jsp
    (say Iframe1.jsp, Iframe2.jsp and Iframe3.jsp. )
    Onload of Iframe3.jsp it submits to a servlet and a pdf document is displayed in that.
    Iframe1.jsp and Iframe2.jsp are JSF pages where as Iframe3.jsp is a pure html as below
    <html>
    <head>
    <script>
    function tryMe(){setTimeout("submitForm()", 1000);}
    function submitForm(){
    document.forms[0].action="/ctx/MyServlet?Id=300";
    document.forms[0].submit();
    </script>
    </head>
    <body onload="tryMe()">
    <FORM NAME="MyForm">
    Please wait, the document is loading...
    </FORM>
    </body>
    </html>
    Now here is the problem.
    Sometimes this works fine and sometimes this just doesnt show up the pdf.
    I have put debug messages in servlet and it seems there is no error and
    the messages shows that the pdf is written to the outputstream,
    however i dont see anything on the browser.
    I tried adding a delay of 1 minute (as in the javascript above) in submission of the page
    the error reduced by 80% but still it occurs sometimes.
    What could be the cause. I couldnt think much .
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank You

    After so many hours of searching, I finally found both culprits!!!
    A) the blue: It was stupid of me, really... it was simply that the "highlight existing fields" was selected (right top corner, usually). Once I de-selected it, all the blue went away... but data continued to disappear except when a box was selected. See B...
    B) Do NOT, Never ever, use Preview to make changes in a .pdf file and then save the file... That was the problem!
    It must've happened a few times, for example it just did this morning, on my new laptop on which I hadn't set Adobe to be my default program for .pdf and the file opened in Preview... I didn't even notice...
    And after searching some more I found a few threads and all had in common that people had used Preview to make changes and save the file... seems that Preview corrupts the files!
    By the way, Eric, no, opening in Preview did NOT give the same results... but files I opened that had never been opened (or, at least, not tempered with) in Preview were all fine...
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Custom fonts not displayed when PDF is generated using 10g Report builder

    Hi
    I have two fonts , abc.ttf and def.ttf which I have placed under C:\Windows\fonts. One of these displays a logo and the other displays barcode
    I have added the environment variable REPORTS_PATH which has value C:\Windows\fonts. I have also added entries for PDF Subset in uifont.ali.
    But still when I run the report and out to a PDF file, the fonts are not displayed. They are remapped to some other fonts.
    When I check PDF document properties in Adobe reader, under fonts tab it says
    abc
       Type:Type1
       Encoding:ANSI
       Actual Font: Adobe Sans MM
       Actual Font Type : Type 1
    def
       Type:Type1
       Encoding:ANSI
       Actual Font: Adobe Sans MM
       Actual Font Type : Type 1
    uifont.ali entries
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    # This example shows how to subset Arial True Type font into the PDF file
    # Arial = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    abc= "abc.ttf"
    def="def.ttf"
    In Oracle reports builder, I am able see these fonts and select them in my report layout
    I am able to see the fonts in Preview/screen output while running RDFs in my reports builder, but PDF output doesnt display these fonts
    Is there anything else which is required to do ? Do I need to restart the machine after environment variable is added ?

    In one PC were Report Builder is installed, we see "COURIER NEW - WESTERN" font and the RDF created / saved in that font works fine on server. I don't know if this helps!

  • Font Size problem : Swing font looks smaller than pdf font

    Hi
    I'm facing a problem with font size in my swing application. I'm showing some text with a certain predefined font size. Using the same font size and type on same m/c, I 'm generating some pdf text.
    The problem is that the text in swing looks smaller than the same text in pdf. Is there a way to achieve
    consistency in font sizes.

  • PDF Report - Fonts not displayed

    Some of the PDF reports which display correctly, after being edited, don't display the text in the output PDF. This issue is happening when run as a concurrent request in Oracle Apps 11i, but in local machine, the PDF report works fine.
    This is happening with one developer user, but for the other it works fine.
    Any clue?

  • FREE3OF9 barcode font not displaying in Firefox's new built-in PDF viewer

    I have a PHP web app that uses FPDF (v1.53) and the FREE3OF9 barcode font to dynamically generate a PDF which includes a barcode in it. The font is imported into the document using the FPDF AddFont method (http://fpdf.org/en/doc/addfont.htm). In versions of Firefox prior to 19, the PDF opened in a new tab, was displayed by the Adobe Acrobat plugin, and the barcode showed up perfectly fine.
    Now that Firefox 19.0 is using its own built-in PDF viewer, the barcode no longer displays at all -- there's just a blank spot where it should be. It continues to display fine in IE and Chrome. How I can get the font to display correctly in the newest version of Firefox?
    I understand that I can change the Action for the PDF content type to 'Use Adobe Reader' in the options, but I'd prefer to fix this so that my users don't have to change their browser settings. Or at the very least, it would be nice if they could only change the Action for PDFs originating from my site and not globally.
    Thanks.

    You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer and use the Adobe Reader instead.

  • Web Kit Font Display Problem with "BEBAS NEUE"?

    Since today font "Bebas Neue" is not displayed correctly.
    Online connection is ok. Font is displayed only when published.
    Thanks for help.

    I tried that temporary solution but, in my design, I use boxes and triggers etc. and since the "replacement" font for the Bebas Neue is so different from the original, it somehow effected my design (white rectangles under the boxes).
    The first image: Font uploaded manually, hence rendered as image, and the contour is not good. (Look at the letter A) (partial screenshot from browser)
    The second image: The font is Bebas Web Font(!) in Adobe Muse (partial screenshot from adobe muse)
    The third image: Font left as is; Bebas Web Font published as it is in the second image, displayed correctly as font BUT there is a white rectangle under the box. (partial screenshot from browser)
    By the way I am using Macbook Pro, Mac OS X 10.9.2, Adobe Creative Cloud Single Edition (Muse CC v7.2 Build 232). Yesterday I worked with the same design without any problems. Nothing updated since then.

  • Pdf fonts problem in 10.6.7 - resolved in 10.6.8 combo update?

    The pdf fonts problem in 10.6.7 forced me to go through the long uninstall process after a couple days stressing over what the problem was -- it was Adobe tech support that finally informed me what the problem was. Is the problem fixed in the 10.6.8 combo update?  Since I got no replies when I asked this question a different way yesterday, can anyone say (for helpful answer points) whether Apple would be inclined to answer this question if I just call them up (i.e., without existing AppleCare)?   Any other suggestions for getting official support on this question?   As it stands, I fear updating at all, and could be stuck with 10.6.6 for a long time.

       collection= "newspaperarchive"
       criteria= "#Form.Criteria#">
       ContextHighlightBegin="<b>"
       ContextHighlightEnd="</b>"
       ContextPassages="1"
       ContextBytes="500"
       maxrows= "100">

    Document Title (if any): #Title#<br>
    Summary: #Summary#<b>
    Highlighted Summary: #context#</p>
    </cfoutput>
    </body>
    </html>

    Ah, ok. Your problem is the link you are showing to the user (file:///C:/inetpub/wwwroot/cfdocs/Newspaperfiles/Madison_County_Record/2013/05/18/Madiso n_County_Record_20130518.pdf).
    That will not likely work in a browser. Not saying it can’t work, or will never work. But it’s not likely what you really should be using. Let me explain.
    Look closely at it: a) it asks for a file:/// directive. Note that traditional browser URLs use http://. Now, it’s not that file:// is wrong. It’s that it’s not appropriate here. It would only work if the path pointed to existed on the user’s machinee. Do they have a folder called c:/inetpub/wwwroot? No. That’s on YOUR server. (And even if this was an intranet application, they would not see that file in that location, as it’s on the server. You’re not offering a path that would work from even other machines on the same network.)
    I suspect what you need is to convert this URL into a “web accessible one”, and the good news (well, good and bad) is that the file you are naming is in fact in a web accessible directory, your inetpub\wwwroot. Assuming you can serve a test.cfm page from c:\inetpub\wwwroot using http://yourdomain/test.cfm, then you can serve these files as http://yourdomain/cfdocs/Newspaperfiles/Madison_County_Record/2013/05/18/Madison_County_Re cord_20130518.pdf.
    Try that URL in your browser. If it works, then you just need to modify your code to provide THAT url to the user. To do that, you’d need to do some manipulation of the variable (you’re not showing us) which displays that link. If you’d share the line of code that outputs that link, we can provide code that will work. (Since you may be combining variables or functions to get the location you show now, I don’t want to just guess what might work.)
    Hope that helps.
    BTW, I said above that there was good news/bad news about this PDF being in a web accessible directory. It’s good for your need to just offer a link easily. It’s bad that if this is content that you may think you want to control in some way, such as to only show “some files” to “some people”, beware that anyone who sees one of these links (when we get it working) will be able to guess at other PDF file names. Just beware. (If you need to solve that, there are still other solutions, but they are way beyond the scope of this Solr forum.)
    Indeed, as may be clear by now, your issue here (the problem you raised) isn’t really a Solr question at all. It’s more about fairly basic web and CF programming. Now, I don’t say that to embarrass you. Hey, we’ve all had a challenge like this some time in our coding lives. It’s just part of getting started with any particular challenge. My point though is that in asking for help here, in the Solr forum, you have limited your audience of help. Note that you’ve not gotten much (nor rapid) response. There are basic CFML forums and indeed several subforums for various aspects of working with CF. Just saying you may want to consider raising future questions there, if they really are of ongoing questions about basic application development. Hope that’s helpful.

  • Unicode Khmer font display problems in FrameMaker 10?

    How do I get Khmer OS or any unicode Khmer font to display properly in FrameMaker 10?
    I am working with cambodian files in FrameMaker 10.
    This is what it looks like in Word (this is how it should look)
    This is how the same texk looks in FrameMaker 10...
    The font is NiDA Chenla and I was able to fix this is ID CS5.5 by turning on the World-Composer.
    Is there something similar in FrameMaker 10.

    Hi CTSRisk,
    Probably spread and stretch option in Character designer might get if fixed for as i dont know the language,i am assuming the language is ok and the only problem is the spacing between them.
    If yes,kindly goto character designer and change the spacing between them.
    I apologize for the late response,however sometimes its not possible to answer on the forums quickly for us.
    Let me know in case i understood the question wrong.
