  • Bursting Program PDF Fonts different from Report Program PDF

We have designed a new XML Publisher report which uses bursting mecahnism to send out the output pdf to supplier. The report rdf completes successfully and generates the pdf with right fonts (Font Mapping configured in XML Publisher Administrator). AfterReport trigger of this report triggers the bursting program. This program sends out the pdf to the right recepients. But this pdf that comes through mail has different fonts then what it was in the output of first program. Can some one guide on how to get the same pdf fonts through bursting email file that is similar to the one that was generated through Report Program. Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Anyone who can throw light on this?

  • 10.6.8 combo & 10.6.7 pdf fonts problem

Does the 10.6.8 update combo correct the pdf fonts problem that was inherent to 10.6.7?  After a couple days of stress I had to do the lengthy 10.6.7 uninstall process in order to refine my doctoral dissertation.  This has made me gun-shy & fearful of updates.  Is it safe to update now?

The combo should fix your problem.  As always have a back-up in case you have to revert.

  • PDF font problem on Solaris (Reports9i)

    Hi.
We are recently moving our application from 9ias Release 1 to 9ias Relese 2. After several configuration problems I was managet to get most of it to running, but encountered big problem with Reports. In Reports6i we used font aliasing, and included several modified fonts with AcrobatReader3. With AcrobatReader5 it's not posible because of more strict checking of PDF standard.
Then of course with Reports9i we start using PDF font subsetting. After added several ttf's (Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman) it started working fine with one exception. Report created with plain Courier New 10pts is not subsetted - in pdf i receive fixed-bold 12 pts.
It happening only with this one size of font. Courier New with size 10 pts and bold or italic looks good. When I change size to 9 or 11 pts - it's ok. I've checked if fonts existed in Xserver - they are.
I double checked uifont.ali - it's ok. I've temporarily solved the problem by changing font in builder on Windows from Courier New to Courier (same size), and then everything works ok. Of course it might be solving - but for the amount of work (about 200 reports) I'm looking for more 'normal' solution.
    Any ideas?
Reports server working on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8, 9ias Release 2 (Patch 2).
Builder works on WindowsXP, 9ids Release 2 (Patch2).
    Czesiek.

Reports 6 or Reports 9? Note that Reports 6 does not generate
syntactically correct RTF for Unicode characters.
We've been running with a postprocessor to correct the RTF and
to change the Oracle-set font to Arial; I'll be watching to see if
there's a better way since our postprocessor shouldn't be needed.

Hi, B_L. Create your catalog in TypeBook, then choose Print, and in the Print dialog box, click the Save as PDF button.

  • Pdf fonts problem in 10.6.7 - resolved in 10.6.8 combo update?

The pdf fonts problem in 10.6.7 forced me to go through the long uninstall process after a couple days stressing over what the problem was -- it was Adobe tech support that finally informed me what the problem was. Is the problem fixed in the 10.6.8 combo update?  Since I got no replies when I asked this question a different way yesterday, can anyone say (for helpful answer points) whether Apple would be inclined to answer this question if I just call them up (i.e., without existing AppleCare)?   Any other suggestions for getting official support on this question?   As it stands, I fear updating at all, and could be stuck with 10.6.6 for a long time.

  • Whatood PDF font?

I am creating a PDF user's guide in Pages 09 that will be used primarily on screen. I'm looking for suggestions on what font to use. The Pages 09 User Guide looks so much better when viewed in Adobe Reader than does the file I've created using the Verdana font.
Anybody know what font the Pages 09 User Guide is created in? Any other suggestions about a good PDF font?

  • PDF font viewed Evince different than actual PDF font?

The title says it all. I'm getting a very strange girly font (no offense, but the i's are dotted with hearts) being rendered for all the text on the PDF. Some PDFs that I view in Evince retain their original font. I have no idea why this is happening, and neither do I have this font on my computer. I am so definitely sure about that. Does anyone have ideas?
I'm using Gnome3 if that matters any.
    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried a different pdf viewer?  Gimp or inkscape can view pdf files or pages.  Epdfview is a lightweight, less feature-full alternative to Evince.
It might help to identify the font.  You probably have the poppler package installed.  If so, you can use 'pdffonts' to list the fonts used in the problem file.  The mupdf package includes 'pdfinfo-mupdf' that can also be used to list the fonts used in a pdf-file.

  • PDF font bug in Preview

I've put Leopard on all 9 of my macs, and I love it.
On one of them (unfortunately the macbook pro that I use all the time), I'm having a nasty bug with PDFKit.
When I open a PDF file that I made in pdflatex in Preview, sometimes it looks fine, but sometimes the fonts are all wrong and sans-serif-y. In many occasions, I an switch back and forth between the good fonts and the bad fonts JUST BY SWITCHING AWAY FROM PREVIEW AND SWITCHING BACK.
    bad:
    http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/9eeb21311/ThisLooksAwful.png
    good:
    http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/c83d91304/ThisLooksGreat.png
Has anyone seen anything like this? The bad fonts propagate themselves all the way to a printed page.

Indeed, wiping out the caches is not a permanent solution.
I found a couple of threads in some tex newsgroups that discuss this problem. There doesn't seem to be a resolution. There was some discussion that Latex Equation Editor is no longer being developed, but LaTeXIt, a similar program shows a similar font corruption problem. Fonts are fine in Preview until using LaTeXIt (or Latex Equation Editor), when they get 'corrupted'. By that I mean that documents viewed in Preview often come up sans-serif, regardless of the original font, and often special characters, such as arrows above letters (indicating vectors) disappear. Keynote files that use those characters (from, for example, using LaTeXIt under Tiger) show corruption. Rebooting (and possibly simply logging out and back in) 'cures' the problem, ie, Preview and Keynote are once again happy. During all this, Acrobat is always happy.
This is kind of painful, since I give physics lectures using Keynote, and things like integral and summation signs and vectors and such are kind of nice to have around.
Someone has got to know what is going on!

  • PDF Fonts change when viewed in Adobe Reader

I'm producing a PDF which will be viewed online. It's being creating in Pages 09 and I export it to PDF.
In Preview the PDF is fine - no problems. But when I view it in Adobe Reader the fonts have changed. I've tried all the fonts listed in the Font collection "PDF" and most recommended for Web.
Just to give you a couple of examples Times becomes blurry in Reader, while Helvetica looks more like Verdana.
I didn't have this problem prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. I'd really appreciate if anyone could help with this. Thanks.

Peter, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner than this, I've been away from my Mac since I posted this.
Thank you for your very kind offer to look at the files for me. In between time a friend has been over and apparently altered some settings on my iMac and the problem seems to have been resolved. (I hope!)
Thanks again - I daresay I'll be back with more questions before long...

    please help.
Edited by: dittaporn nanasilp on Sep 7, 2010 6:43 AM

    Hi,
In addition to Korean font like KPBATANG, the language key of the used form(sapscript or smartform) must be KO. Also the PDF must be created by a Korean device type like e.g. KPSAPWIN.
If you have a Unicode system, then the Unicode cascading fonts device type SWINCF or PDFUC can be used to create the PDF. In this case the language of the form is not so important.

  • Preview won't show some PDF fonts?

It's happened again:  I have downloaded a PDF that opens with most of the text missing/blank in Preview.  Opening the same document in Adobe Reader works fine.  If I copy/paste some of that font from either the Preview or the Reader version of the text (I can highlight the blank text, seeing only a colored bar for the selection), and it pastes just fine into Word or Pages, which tell me that the text is Calibri.
So....Preview is somehow not able to access/display that font, but the font is clearly installed on my computer, accessible to Reader, Word, Pages, etc.  I have resolved duplicate fonts in Font Book (and Calibri was not one of those that showed a conflict).
Any idea where the problem is?  It's not a critical problem at this time, because there's a way around it, but this has happened several other times when I want to quickly download a document to check something during the course of a meeting and don't have time to get distracted with multiple PDF readers--and I prefer the interface on Preview and want to keep that as my default.

    Thank you Allan and Barney.
Alas, though this did solve my question - it did not solve my problem.
I begrudgingly set-up the Adobe Reader account and downloaded the App.
Between: Apple's iCloud, Google Drive, DropBox, Amazon Cloud, and now Adobe Cloud, management of storage and documents is getting "complex" to say the least.
I was hoping to keep all these "collection-type PDF's" with all my other "normal-type PDF's" on Apple's iCloud through Preview.
Oh well, another account opened and another: account, username, password, and Application to manage.
Thank you both for your help and clarity on this issue.
    Q.

  • Can I change PDF font size in ibook

I downloaded a PDF file into ibooks but the font is too small. I don't want to zoom in because then I have to move the file left to right right to left. I would like to change the font size and the document should repaginate itself. Is that possible? otherwise how can you read a full pdf page in the iphone screen?

Generally, one of the reasons people use PDF is because it doesn't repaginate. So complex, graphic-heavy layouts stay how they were designed.
So if the PDF file doesn't offer the same "aA" icon that an ePub file does, I don't think you can upsize the text. (I don't have any PDF files in iBooks at present to really test this, but Apple's KB here says users cannot change font size with PDF: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4168 ).
Look for a text or ePub version of the PDF, or Tip #5 here suggests you might be able to convert it yourself:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/153615/2010/08/automator.html
otherwise how can you read a full pdf page in the iphone screen?
some people are more willing to strain their eyes than others. I've managed it.

  • Saving as PDF: fonts look crappy?

I have a small test .psd image with just one piece of text. When I save this as .pdf from Photoshop CS4 (using Save As and choose Photoshop PDF format) and open the .pdf with Acrobat 9, the font looks pretty messed up. Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://i26.tinypic.com/5flp2p.jpg
I have attached the example .psd (and saved .pdf) here.
Now the strange thing is: it doesn't happen *always*, sometimes the PDF looks all right. I can't seem to detect what it depends on. I have plenty of available RAM and harddisk space, that's for sure. It seems to occur especially when I already have another PDF open in Acrobat as well. For example, if I copy the test.pdf from above zip to test2.pdf, then open one in Acrobat, then the other, the first may look all right (not always) and the 2nd usually looks messed up.
What's going on? I'm not sure if this is a problem with Acrobat rather than PS, but it happens ONLY with PDFs I save from PS. Never with PDFs from any other source.
Thanks in advance if someone can clear this up!

Font embedding rules, for sure. If a font is considered "locked" and thus un-embeddable, any program is required to convert it to contours as per the PDF language ruels. By keeping a document open under the same name you may just trigger that weird behavior and PS is just not good at it. On the other hand, you could just use a wrong PDF preset and it flattens things to a low quality. As a third possibility, PS could jsut embed the font name reference and then for some inconceivable reason it doesn't get associated in Acrobat. Hard to tell. I'm just not in the mood to do any deeper investigation after a hot, long day full of work, so maybe someone else has a better answer for you...

  • Frame to PDF font conversion broken in upgrade to Frame 10

I am using Adobe Garamond Pro font as body text.  In Frame 9, this worked fine, I was able to generate PDFs with correct text.  Now I have upgraded to Frame 10.  I generate the same file as PDF, and the body text looks good except for passages that have been marked as bold text.
Again, fine when the PDF was generated by Frame 9, but now the bold text is not correctly rendered.  Instead, I get an ugly monospaced, and very jammed-together, word.  Non bold text looks okay. Italic text looks okay.  But the bold text does not.
Any suggestions as to how can I fix this? I looked in the Frame10 fminit\fonts directory, and AGaramondPro-Bold.otf is there. In fact, the directory looks pretty much the same as the Frame9 version.

Okay, thanks. I think I have the problem solved, though I'm still not quite certain how it occurred.
To trouble shoot the Frame 10 problem, I opened up a file in Frame 9 (didn't uninstall it when I upgraded to 10, so I have both installed) and saved as PDF, with the same results, but with an error message that pointed me to the Adobe PDF printer, even though I don't explicitly point to it anywhere. The message said to de-select the option that says "use system fonts only" in the printer properties dialog.
When I did so, the problem went away.
Thing is, I never intentionally changed any of the Adobe PDF printer properties. It was working fine in both 9.0 and 10.0 Frame then all of a sudden the problem appeared out of the blue.
The only thing I can think of that changed between the time it worked and the time it failed is an upgrade from Acrobat to Acrobat X.
