PDF from 9.0 results in weird inter- and intra-word spacing. Cause?

Running Framemaker Version 9.0p250 on Windows XP.
I printed a book using the Adobe PDF printer driver. There are scattered instances where there are significant spaces (between 3 and 12 n-spaces) between consecutive letters of a word or between two words. For example:
Inter-word spacing examples: main processes employed and the functional
Intra-word spacing examples: audi t Descrip tion
These spaces do not exist in the Framemaker source files. In addition, when I copy the content containing these spaces to the Clipboard and then paste them into this message, the odd spacing disappears. However, when I print the pages containing these errors to my local or network printers, the pages print with the strange spacing intact.
I checked maker.ini and the setting is "DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=On" as expected.

Over the years I've occasionally seen extremely large spaces like that but it was always resolved by a reboot.

Creating PDF from multiple files results in file name AND chapter name both appearing in TOC.

And all the bookmarks in that chapter nest directly under the file name. I would rather have just the chapter title appear with no file name in the TOC and the chapter bookmarks nested under that.

This is an expected behavior. When you create a pdf from any file it will list the filename in the TOC.
You have to manually edit the bookmarks.

Using Create PDF from Web Page; Resulting PDF is missing text

Trying to create pdf's from various web pages. Generally process works very well but some pages have missing text and bad formatting. Specifically; http://www.robinhood.ca/Recipes/Occasions/Spring/Apricot-Tartlets
When I create the PDF; I am missing the text under "directions" and the description is truncated and forced to the far right.
Seems like I am missing a formatting or font setting but I have adjusted everything I can think of and have had no luck.
Running Acrobat Pro XI.
Anybody have any thoughts?

yes; looking at the source; seems that <table> is being captured correctly but the part that is missing is a <div>. I'm not an expert at deciphering the page source but seems like that is the problem.
Is there a work around?
when I print via the firefox plugin it prints fine. but i ultimately want to capture several layers on the site if I can get the formatting resolved.

Creating pdfs from different file types (.doc,.xls etc) and merging them into a single pdf with book

I need to create a pdf from 2 different file formats, for example .doc and .xls file and merge the contents of the two files into a single pdf.Also the final pdf created must contain bookmarks and links. Thanks in advance.

You can do this on the desktop using the Acrobat SDK as a custom plugin.
You can do this on a server with Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator.

Downloading the generatred PDF from the server results in a blank browser

Hi,
We are using iText to generate PDF documents and that's working fine. Only when we try downloading the generated PDF document it just opens up a blank browser and does not display anything. This behavior is noted in IE and Firefox! The application is hosted on IBM Websphere and IBM Web server on a Linux machine, the application is a https (secured) application.
There are no errors logged in the log, just that the PDF does not get downloaded. The size of the PDF files are around 2.5 MB.
When I try to replicate the issue from my local workspace the same PDFs work fine - able to download! Any app ser/web server setting issue? Has anyone faced such an issue, any suggestions?

Thank you for initiating to reply. Actually the case is erratic, as I said in my first post, as the document gets downloaded for a few times and does not for a few times. The pattern is whenever the file size if 2.5 MB or more then the doc. does not get downloaded on the client side (browser - IE & firefox). Comparing 2 PDF documents text - differnet results in 8.2 and 9.0 versions of Professional

I am trying to compare 2 PDF Documents - Text. When I compare it in Version 8.2 of Adobe Professional using the right Options and selecting text compare. It compares the two documents perfectly fine and give me the right difference results.
When I compare the same 2 PDF documents - text in 9.0. It give me a totally different results. It treats the PDFs as Image and doesn't compare and produce right and clean way as 8.2. Do you know the reason why this is happening in 9.0.
Ideally all the functionality that is being supported in 8.2 should be supported in 9.0 Right??

Is it possible to combine pdfs from software containing the file by dragging and dropping them?

We have a piece of software that we profile PDF files into it and then have a need to combine those PDFs into one file. Is it possible to just drag and drop from the software into the combine files area? I know if you open the files first, you can do that or if you save the documents locally, then you can combine them. It would be ideal to just select the files in the software, then drag and drop them into the combine pdf window. We are using Adobe Pro XI.

The workflow you are talking about is very much possible with Acrobat and a good example is Microsoft Outlook from which we can select multiple e-mails and simply drag into Acrobat combine dialog box for combining.
What happens when you drag files from you software? Is it public software?
Can we test your software?

I cannot export to pdf from Indesign... I export and then nothing happens. Can someone please help?

Indesign worked well for a long time. Then recently, after I and to reset my computer to an earlier time, Indesign stopped letting me export to PDF. I get no error message. It is just that nothing happens after I export it. I have some major deadlines for printin and am desperate for help. I emailed the Indesign file to someone else and they were able to export it and create a PDF.
I look forward to any suggestions. I would gladly pay someone if they can get it to work again.

@ (peterfrommaine)-peter – since you use InDesign CS5.5, be aware that there is a bug (at least up to version 7.5.2) with PDF export with books that could mess up your page numbers. You are not affected, because you printed to PDF (that is the "print-PostScript-distill-to-PDF" way).

has anyone set up the following scenarios?
1. Intra Company Stock Transport Orders between 2 plants in the same company code and same Sales Org
i.e Plant 0001 (Supplying Plant) exists for Company Code 0001 and Sales Org 0001
Plant 0002 (Receiving Plant) exists for Company Code 0001 and Sales Org 0001
2. Inter Company Stock Transport Orders between 2 plants in different company codes and different Sales Orgs
i.e. Plant 0003 (Supplying Plant) exists for Company Code 0002 and Sales Org 0002
Plant 0002 (Receiving Plant) exists for Company Code 0001 and Sales Org 0001
We are unable to get both scenarios to work at the same time due to the fact that only one Sales organization for intercompany billing can be assigned to a plant.

1.create combination of Shipping condition, Loading Group and Supplying plant.
2.Create Customer master with sales org, Distribution channel and Division.
3.Assign customer master to receiving plant with same Sales area.
4.Assign Delivery Type and Checking Rule.
5.Assign Document Type, One-Step Procedure, under delivery Tolerance.
6.Make Sure Assignment of sales organization - distribution channel - plant
7.Create material master with purchasing view in plant B.
8.Extend material master with sales view to plant A.
9.In Plant A create STO (UB), with supplying plant. Check for shipping point XXXX.
10.In Plant B create STO (UB), with supplying plant.Check for shipping point XXXX.
11.Create delivery for XXXX shipping points.
12. Post Goods issue.

Creating a PDF from a Secure Website (entire site)

I am having trouble creating a PDF from a website that requires a login and password. I have full access to the secure website through a subscription and wanted to print certain levels (or even be able to print the whole site that I can access) but when I run the Create function it only prints the publicly-accessible portions of the site. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Unfortunately that has not helped. When I try to print from IE, I can only print the page I am on, not the entire path or the entire website. The only way I can find to print more than the single page is to go Acrobat, but that brings me back to my original problem -- when I run it through Acrobat only the public (not the private or secured) pages are created into a PDF. I have also searched the boards and have found nothing. Any additional help would be appreciated.

How the heck do you unmark a "Question Answered" post when you find out you were wrong?
Anyway, the problem remains ... the scanner software for the printer is A-OK - I just scanned fine to a file outside of Acrobat. But trying to create a PDF from a scan still crashes Acrobat. And the situation is now worse ... I can't uninstall Acrobat because I now get the error in Add/Remove Programs, "This is action is only valid for currently installed programs." Running the Microsoft Installer Cleanup tool seems to have been a very bad idea. (I did only run it on the Acrobat software.)
Trying to run the repair now gets absolutely no response whatsoever from the software.
How do I fix this now ... ? Crikey!

I've seen tons of people with this problem all over the web and no good answers.. Reinstalling twain drivers may not help as my problem was related to some drivers belonging to a printer that I don't even use..
Spent quite a while on this one.. My problem was related to twain drivers which reside in c:\windows\twain_32. I'm running windows 7 64-bit. First it's usually possible to scan in windows 7 maybe vista and from adobe without even using twain (using WIA). So try renaming the twain_32 folder to _twain_32 and see what happens... If that stops the crashing look at the contents of the twain folder. I had a Dell folder for some printer I wasn't even using. That was causing the crash. I removed the dell folder and renamed the twain folder back to twain_32. Now everything works as designed.

Print individual PDFs from Books

Hi All
Does anyone know a way or have a script that will print/export individual PDFs with appropriate file name from a book.
I have 3 books each containing nearly 100 docs and don't want to have to open and print each one individually, but printing PDFs from a book will batch them up and give then the title of said book. can anyone help.

Export PDF from InDesign Book

Hi, I have a customer that has huge problems to export PDFs from InDesign Books. He has books with many documents with a total amount of 500-700 pages, when he try to export a PDF InDesign quit unexpectedly. I wrote a script for him that export the PDF from the book without the progress bar, and sometimes it solves the problem but sometimes not, and I have a "out of memory" message. He must export multiple PDF from the same book and then merge those PDF with Acrobat but he has also interactivity sometimes and it's a nightmare to merge PDFs with interactive objects and bookmarks. Someone of you have experienced the same problem (and maybe has a solution)? Thank you

It seems that InDesign saturate the available RAM during the operation of gathering information before start to export, if I restart InDesign each time and export a selection of documents it works. I'm exporting now two separate PDF and it seems to work, but again only if I close and restart InDesign before exporting, I'm working on an iMac with an Intel 2.93 GHz i7 and a total of 8 GB RAM.
