PDF Highlighter

i'm looking for a good iPad app that will allow me to highlight PDFs. I want an app that will allow me highlight as I slide my finger on the page. I don't want an app that will ask me to select a section and then highlight. I don't know if such an app does exist.

PDF Viewer support for PDF Highlight annotations

Hello. The built-in PDF viewer installed with Firefox 19 does not appear to support PDF Highlight annotations. Is there a time frame for implementing this annotation type? Thanks.

Pdf highlighting question

When a highlighted pdf, highlighted in Acrobat Professional 8.0, is imported into InDesign CS3, the highlighting no longer shows. Is there some way to keep this highlighting? I am on a Mac with OS X Leopard. Thanks.

It's not a completely satisfactory solution, but holding cmd-option while highlighting will allow you to use a marquee highlight tool for text. Unfortunately, the output preserves the line breaks, so you'll be left with having to remove them if you want to paste the passage into your own text.

How to remove or edit PDF highlights in PREVIEW

Hello;
when viewing PDF in Preview, you can add some marks and make annotations; but after highlighting or underlining some text, I cannot change or remove highlights anymore. Is this a bug, or is there anything special I should do?

It's a ridiculous piece of interface nonsense, but the way to remove the highlights is to open the sidebar, select Annotations from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the sidebar to get the list of annotations (and highlights) in the document.
Select the annotation/highlight in the sidebar (it'll have the page number next to it, and selecting it sends you to that page, too) and you'll find that the annotation itself, or in this case the highlight, is selected, and pressing Delete gets rid of it.

Adobe Reader for iOS PDF Highlight selection

Please help! First of all, other than my issue the app is great and does everything I need.
HOWEVER.... I use the app to study materials on PDF files as they are not available as .EPUB. When I attempt to highlight specific words, the app does not allow it. It will only highlight a complete section (usually seperated by a comma) or a complete line. Obviously as this is a study tool, I would like to highlight specific text to correspond with the question. Highlighting an entire sentance is pointless.
Another strange thing is that it works on the desktop version, just not on the iOS version. IS there a solution or do I need to go buy an expensive app to do this? One would think with all the features already, this one should work? Please help....Thanks!

Firefox Reader plugin and PDF highlighting

Hi everyone,
I'm using javascript from a browser to highlight words inside of PDFs using the browser plugin, like so:
   var pdfEmbed = popup.document.embeds[0];
   pdfEmbed.setCurrentPage(page);
   pdfEmbed.setViewScroll("FitH", offset);
   pdfEmbed.setCurrentHighlight(left, right, top, bottom);
This works fine in IE, but when I try the same thing in Firefox nothing happens and I get this javascript error:
   Error: pdfEmbed.setCurrentPage is not a function
I've tried this several different ways, but Firefox always acts like these functions aren't supported in that version of the Reader plugin. Is that true? I've looked online and in the documentation but haven't found a definitive answer for this.

You're not going to get that with a PDF form, sorry. A year ago I'd suggest that you look into Adobe's FormsCentral, which allows easy creation and administration of both web and PDF forms, but they have decided to discontinue this service. They have directed customers to similar services such as JotForms, so you might want to look into that.

How can I make PDFs highlight-able?

I print to PDF using Tiger's built in PDF services a lot. I want to be able to highlight text in the PDFs I create. But the security on all the documents I create says "Commenting: Not Allowed" in Adobe Reader 8. Preview doesn't tell me anything good or bad about commenting, and it allows me to add little sticky-note text boxes, but I as far as I can tell, not highlight.
Any ideas? Is there a secret setting somewhere I can tweak? Or have I missed something obvious?

Sounds like the Mac users may be opening the PDF files in Preview instead of Adobe Reader.

Highlights that before were yellow now appear as outlined in blue, even in pdfs highlighted in the past. What changed?

The "highlighted" text only shows as a blue outline when the mouse is hovered over the text, eliminating the usefulness of the highlighting on the screen. The highlighted text still shows the yellow color on the hard-copy printed, but not on the screen.

PDF highlight to Spreadsheet, script

Dear Community:
I am looking for a script where I can highlight a piece of text in Adobe Acrobat Reader and transfer that highlighted text to a spreadsheet in one cell and have the name of the PDF file the clipping came from pasted onto the adjoining row.
I have a project where I am counting instances of Jazz performances in books that have been scanned as a PDF. I want to be able to search the OCR PDF, select the passage -song title or album or artist, depending-, copy this passage to a spreadsheet (excel or not) , along with the file name in an adjacent cell, (this is my citation). The key is the citation of the original document. The goal is to compline as many instances of similar songs across different books to then model this data for similarities. I am hoping for a script that can automate much of the counting and cataloging for me.This script also needs to be able to add on to an existing spreadsheet (or perhaps create new and I can compile to a master list) as this project will take weeks.
If you can please point me toward a similar script I can adapt, I have a limited knowledge of Apple Script, or put me in the right direction I will greatly appreciate it.

Different PDF highlight shades on different computers using Preview?

I read a lot of PDFs in Preview and use the various shades for highlighting. Today, I opened up a PDF and, scrolling back an earlier set of highlights, was surprised to find they were a MUCH lighter shade than the colors I had added just yesterday. I believe it corresponds to a difference between highlighting on my laptop versus my desktop. If I spend a lot of time on one, and then move to another, I notice that the colors seem to be different. In the past, I'd just chalked it up to color-balancing, but today I noticed it was a striking difference when viewed on the same monitor. Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Perhaps I've made a change somewhere on one computer that I don't remember (and haven't made on the other)? Any help is appreciated, as the difference is so striking that it's almost as if I didn't highlight at all on the earlier passages.
EDIT: A little more investigation leads me to believe this could be a case of successive saves and compression of the PDF resulting in a loss of saturation. The more times the PDF has been saved, the more saturation lost, leading to state where yellow and green appear almost identical. Perhaps I need to abandon Preview for "serious" PDF use and go back to Acrobat Pro?

Did that... no real change...I'm having to delete and re-create bookmarks to 'patch' up the current file... it seems after I plug one hole, there are a couple more... this can't be sustained as the project is going to get more complex.
I'm wondering how much of it is messing up when I create a bookmark and 'sort bookmarks' ... seems like they are visually sorting correctly but something is 'shifting' on the buttons... like the buttons are referencing page numbers instead of 'bookmark names' /shrug.

Well turned out it is secured, but if you can't even highlight points, can you still refer to it as "interactive?"
The problem was that they furnished both a book and a PDF file which are identical and I am unable to understand the point. I would refer to the PDF as "flat" or "static" rather than "interactive." It seems redundant and I find the description misleading. It's also remarkably wasteful.
(Also, visualize the levels of efficiency between 1) scrolling through a PDF, highlighting certain points, and keyboarding comments vs 2) turning pages in a book, picking up a pen to highlight areas, and getting out the pen and paper to handwrite comments.)

Highlighting in PDF

I use Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional. I am opening up a PDF that has random words highlighted and I need to take all of the highlighting off of the PDF. I have tried using the highlight tool and it did not work. I have tried clicking on the highlighted area and deleting the comment and it still does not work. I have tried Advanced - PDF Optimizer - Discard Objects - Discard all comments and form widgets. I have yet to find someone to help or find a solution to this issue. Is there a way to remove the highlighting from the PDF?

The highlight effect may have been applied to the authoring file from which the PDF was created.
In such a scenario the highlight is part of the page content (just like the textual characters).
The Highlight tool has no affect on such as they are not PDF highlight annotations.

How to maintain PDF links when viewed in Apple Mail

Hi All
I've created a single page promo flyer in InDesign which has an email and a web link at the foot of the page. The flyer is to be distributed to clients as a PDF attachment via Apple Mail. The PDF has been created from the InDesign doc and the links display and behave as they are intended to. When I attach the PDF to a mail it displays just fine. I want recipients to be able to click on and follow the links directly from the Mail view in a single action without having to download the PDF and then click on the links. However when you try to click the links the whole PDF highlights blue and no link is activated. Can anyone suggest a way to achieve this?
I'm using Apple Mail v7.3 on an iMac running OSX v10.9.5.

If you are asking about addresses that are not in your Address Book, they are listed in Windows > Previous Recipients.

Is there a way to insert a file (such as a PDF or Word doc) into a presentation?

I have a few pdf "highlight sheets" that I'd like learners to be able to access and print out if they'd like, while watching the presentation.
Is there a way to insert a file into the course? (For instance, if they click a certain button, the file would be downloaded to their computer?)

While Michael's answer is technically correct, I never advise to use the browse button to locate the file. Doing so puts the link in peril as it typically creates an absolute path leading to the document you wish to link to. So use the button if you must, but before committing the link, ensure you remove any pathing information and leave behind only the document file name.
