PDF I take to my printer is showing grayscale pages as color

The PDF in question:
http://wndw.net/download/WNDW_Standard.pdf
most notably towards the back there are quite a few B&W photos and they show as color when they load the PDF in our print center.
so what is the best way to strip the color from those pages?
Yesterday I used the "Convert Colors" command through the entire book on the pages that I want to print as grayscale. I followed an Adobe tutorial online, but basically under "Conversion Attributes > Conversion Profile" I chose "Gray Gamma 1.8" and then under "Output Intent" I checked "Convert Colors to Output Intent," changed the profile there to "Gray Gamma 1.8," then checked "Preserve Black" under "Convert Options" and then I would set my page range. I did this for all the page ranges in the book that I wanted as B&W.
I then saved this PDF and took it to the printer, but the pages I thought I had converted still showed up as color.
any advice? Did I possibly do something wrong in the Convert Colors process??

I'm trying the "Preflight > Convert to grayscale." When I open one of the pages in Photoshop after doing this, the page is RGB and not grayscale.
is there a place in Acrobat to see what a specific page's color profile is? If a PDF is grayscale and I open the "Ink Manager," shouldn't the CMY values for density be 0? Here's what I'm seeing after running "Preflight > grayscale":

or maybe I'm not interpreting Ink Manager correctly.

  • Printer regonizes Black/white page as color page

When we print a Word document to a PDF file with the Acrobat printer, pages that contain only Black/White information but with an image that looks as if it is Black/White, the printer recognizes the page as a color page. When we print this page with Word directly to the printer, the page is recognized as a Black/White page.
Are there color setting available which control the setting for gray scale images to be printed Black/White?

  • Blank page sent to my printer..Print Preview shows my page as a .pdf (On Mac OS 10.5.8)

A blank page is sent to the printer. When I view the text page in Print Preview, the page is blank and it is a .pdf. The print feature works fine with other browsers. This suddenly occurred. One minute I was able to print...the next minute blank pages print. I have tried two different printers and both experience the same problem on Firefox. The plug-ins are up to date.
Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Slow down a bit and think this through.
CUPS on linux is nearly identical to CUPS on OS X - but there is no Mac-to-Mac Apple proprietary print sharing. Rather, on linux you are sharing the printer using standard printing protocols. Just like on the Mac (when using the standard protocols like Windows/SMB or IP printing), linux print queues expect postscript input. Try using a generic postscript driver from the mac.
And when you add the printer via Windows Printing or IP > LPD or IPP, you will need to know the queue name for that printer from the linux box. (one computer with one IP address can have multiple printers - so what's the additional address info to print to your desired printer? - queue name.)

  • How do I set my default print to be grayscale (NOT full color)

I have an HP LaserJet CM1415fnw printer on a wireless network at home.  We have a mac, macbook and 2 windows based computers.  I do not want the printer to automatically print everything in color.  How do I set the default to grayscale or black ink only?  I have looked everywhere!!
    Thank you!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

One will need to have the full software installed on each computer to get this functionality.
    To set greyscale:
    * Open the Printing Preferences for the CM1410 driver that installs for this printer
    * Select the Color tab at the top
    * Click the Print in Greyscale check box
    * Save the options and attempt a print
Let me know how this goes.

  • Pages 09 poster only prints as black and white but color looks fine on the screen

The original template my poster was based upon prints in color, I can print other documents from pages in color without issue, and even if I print to pdf (which looks fine on the screen) and then open the pdf in preview and then print, it still prints black and white.
Um, and yes, it's a color printer and it's a standard 8.5x11 paper, so there's nothing too weird there.  It looks totally fine literally everywhere except paper, and I have no other issues with any other documents, even really similar ones, that I have sent through the same printer.
I sent the same pdf file to a local copy shop and it printed just fine.
    ACK!  Please help!

I can't find anything that is print to black & white or grey scale in the document rules or anywhere else, and since the printer prints it as a pages document AND a pdf as black and white--but someone else can print the same PDF file in living color on their printer without any issues, I'm stumped.
Without changing anything, I can print any other document, jpg, web page, or anything on the same printer (including the same apple template) and the colors are fine...but then this one prints in b&w.

How to add a screenshot to a forum message from iPad/iPhone
Regarding printing PDF documents...It depends on the PDF document that you are trying to print.  In general, it will take longer to print more complex and larger PDF documents.
If you are willing to share your PDF document (that takes forever to print) with us at [email protected], we can test it with the same version (11.6.3) of Adobe Reader on different iOS versions (iOS 7.x vs. iOS 8.x).  Please include the link to this forum (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1616231) in your email message for reference.
Actual printing is handled by iOS (not by Adobe Reader) via AirPrint over Wi-Fi connection.  We've heard from other users about iOS 8 Wi-Fi connectivity problems.

  • Printing PDF Files takes forever

I'm new to the mac world, but love it. It takes forever to print pdf files on my iMac. I'm using an HP3050 Laserjet, plugged directly into the iMac. Never had this problem with the printer connected to my Vista Laptop.
I started to print a 2 page pdf 9 minutes ago and still have not gotten a pageout of the printer. PDF File is only 132 KB.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    David Goodman1 wrote:
It was happening with preview and adobe pdf viewer. I tried an experiment, unplugged the usb cable and re-set the printer to its defaults.
That solved part of the problem. It now prints pdf's quickly, but any document, word, pdf etc that I try to print, the printer now beeps and prompts for a manual feed, press enter for confirmation. After pressing the enter button on the printer whatever file I'm trying to print comes out.
Okay, the printer thinks that you're feeding paper from the manual feed slot, not from the paper tray. When you select 'Print', the printer dialog box should come up. There are two basic styles for the printer dialog box:
1 basic, which has seven items in it: the printer ID pull-down menu, which allows you to select printers if you have more than one printer; in my case, I'd have Brother HL-2070N, Brother MFC-440CN, Adobe PDF 8.0, and a few other items on the list. It would also show the printer presets pull-down, the four print system buttons (PDF, Preview, Cancel and Print) and the dialog control triangle.
2 complete, which can be access from the basic dialog by clicking on the dialog control triangle. This will zoom out the dialog box to include the full array of options available for that printer. What options show depend on which printer you have, but one of them will be a pull-down menu which usually has the name of the app you're trying to print from. One of the items on that menu will be 'Print Feed' or something similar. Select that item. The dialog will zoom out and show you the various print feed options. It is probable that there will be a checkmark next to 'manual feed' or something similar. Select 'automatic' or 'tray #1' or similar. Print normally.
Once you have printed something with the correct settings the print system will remember the settings you want and will keep them until you change them. Just remember that if you change them, the system will remember the new settings until you change them back.
Plus, printing #10 envelopes no longer works correctly, the address information only partially prints and is un-readable.
That's almost certainly because it things that it's printing letter-size paper from the manual tray. One of the settings under 'Print Settings' or similar should allow you to select the size and type of paper; if you select #10 envelope, it will adjust accordingly. Note that unless you specify otherwise, if you select #10 envelope the system will usually automatically select the manual feed for you. It will go back to whatever feed setting had been made before printing envelopes once you select a different type of paper. (At least that's how it's worked in every printer I've used for quite some time now.)
I'm going to plug the printer back into my Vista Laptop and see if it goes back to normal.
It's not hardware-related, it's driver-related, so you should be able to print from Vista without a problem.
If you do have a problem, let us know 'cause then the problem is not a driver problem. And if it's not a driver problem you may yet get to buy a new printer, 'cause fixing printer hardware is usually more expensive than just tossing the printer and replacing it. I would charge you at least $50/hour plus parts to fix this kind of thing. You can get a new printer for under $100. You make the call.
Is there any kind of "terminal" command I can use to re-set how the Mac is dealing with the printer?
if you really want to see the guts of the print system, you can go to the CUPS pages on your system, but you really don't want to do that unless you absolutely have no choice. The CUPS pages, the Common UNIX Printing System pages, on your system are available if you launch your web browser (any web browser) and go to <http://127.0.0.1:631/printers>. There's a whole lot of info in there, but playing inside there is not for the faint of heart.

    Hi,
That's very normal. Depending on many things, machine (laptop/PC) has to send many "commands" down to the printer therefore the file is getting huge.

  • Pdf takes hours to print on IMac lion 10.7. Anyone has a solution?

I read that IMAc users has same problem with printing PDF files. A 5 page PDF document took overnight to print. Apple tech is useless. Anyone has a solution? Thank you.

There is no reason that a pdf file - 5 pages, no less - should take so long to print. Are you printing out of Preview or Acrobat Reader? What kind of printer and do you have the latest printer drivers? I can print a multipage pdf file in highest quality to my ink-jet printer in 5 minutes or less. There's likely nothing wrong with the pdf file - the problem must have something to do with your printer and/or print set-up. Could you give some more specific details?

  • PDF annotation with link, image doesn't show, only in print or Google Chrome, not Adobe Reader main

We are creating PDF files with annotations, we are using the O2 Solutions PDF Library for C#. We used to create PDFStampAnnotations, but now we want to make the images clickable, to navigate to the URL belonging to the image.
Therefore, we are now using PDFLinkAnnotations, with a PDFImageAppearance.
We set the flags of the annotation to Print.
However, the annotation won't show in the PDF in Adobe Reader. It does show in the Google Chrome inline PDF viewer.
It also shows in the print preview window in Adobe Reader.
But it does not show in the normal view in Adobe Reader. What we do see is, when hovering over the rectangle that should contain our image, our mouse cursor becomes a hand and a tooltip with the link is displayed. If we click, everything works as expected. But we don't see an image!
What can we do about this? This is really annoying, as I don't have a clue why it won't work. Actually, to me, this looks like a bug in Adobe Reader?

    Thank  you for your reply.
Indeed, I tried saving a PDF that had the "default appearance", it shows exactly the same. So it looks like it "can't" show the image.
However, of course, I do want the image to be shown. How can I achieve this? How can I tell Adobe Reader (and other PDF viewers) I really really realllyyyyy want to see that image there? I believe I'm not doing anything really exotic, right? There must have been tons of other people that wanted to do the same thing, I guess?

  • Faultless pdf print master shows mistakes on the printer's computer

For years I have manufactured artworks in Indesign (now CS2) and link with it mainly psd image files. Exotic fonts are converted into paths. The exported pdfs are then sent as print master to to the printer's. With three different printing enterprises I never had had a problem so far.
Now I have changed the print office again, and the prints look really bad: One of the psd-linked pictures has strong hard black shadows (in the original they are quite soft and greyish) and overlays with one white corner (in the original transparent background) another picture, although it appears completely correct in my pdf, on all 5 computers, which we have in the house, in different pdf readers.
In addition 2 Logos (originally white fonts on transparent background)
were printed with a white background. On no monitor that I know (ours and friends') any mistakes in the pdfs show up, only on the printer's computer they appear: I received screenshots from the print office with the same time stamps as my pdf-masters, however with the errors, high-loaded on
the server, which appear afterwards in the pressure. I am
shocked, because the print master stops to be a master if it gets out of control. What can I do? Thanks for advice.

The problems you are describing sound like improper handling of transparency and overprinting at the printer, either because he doesn't understand how to deal with it correctly or his equipment is out of date. I'd look for a different printer.
