  • Finder icons for TextEdit documents

    Hello,
I have set Word documents (.doc) to open with TextEdit by default. Since doing this, all my Word documents now have blank icons in Finder.
By contrast, when I select Word documents to open with AbiWord or NeoOffice, the files get the AbiWord (or NeoOffice) icons in Finder.
Why don't they get the TextEdit icons?
    Thanks,
    Apurva
PS: When I select Word documents to open with AppleWorks, they get a blank icon and NOT the AppleWorks icon. Whats the matter with these Apple applications?

Whats the matter with these Apple applications?
They just haven't bothered to set a default icon in the programme for that document type. I'm sure you could come up with all sorts of guesses why Apple might not want to slap their own icon on Microsoft's file type - who knows the real reason...
Anyway, you can add one yourself, if you are so inclined.

  • I have OSX Maverick on an iMac using Outlook e-mail.  PDF attachments are included in the e-mail  as the whole document rather than just the PDF icon.  How can i have just the PDF icon as an attachment?

In Outlook my PDF attachments appear as whole documents and not just the PDF icon.  How can I have attachments included as PDF icons and not the documents?

For your own viewing, you can of course control-click on the attachment and select "View as Icon".
For others' viewing, it depends upon their email reader.  To ensure that attachments are not displayed expicitly you can put them all in a zip file (via control click and "Compress") then attaching them, or you can use third party stuff like Attachment Tamer.

  • When adding a PDF file to a New Message in Mail it does not show up as an icon link, the entire document appears. How can you attach a PDF without the entire document displaying itself?

After scanning a document, I save the file in a PDF format. When attaching the PDF file to a New message it appears on the entire page instead of a PDF icon link that the recipient can click on to open. Why can't I get the PDF file to appear in a icon format? Thank you.

Control mouse click the document and select View as icon.

  • Using the PDF Icon in a print document

I would like to use the PDF icon in a printed piece to describe a PDF file that is available. We have a PDF form that we distribute to users. There is also an online version of this form, with a little more functionality. Users can choose between using the PDF form or going online. In a small brochure we outline the purpose of the form and then give the user the option to request the PDF form or go to the online form. I would like to put the PDF icon in the printed brochure so the users can easily identify that it is actually a PDF. Does anyone know where I can get the art for the PDF icon that will be of a high enough resolution to go into a printed brochure? Thanks!

    Hi,
The workaround is install Foxit PDF reader - available free.
In DC30 for PDF files mention PC-3-%AUTO%
In MS Explorer change the settings to open PDF files with Foxit.
In CV02N as you select print for PDF files it will directly print the file without opening it thru standard network printer.

  • Why aren't my PDF icons red?

My desktop icons for Adobe PDF files look like TextEdit icons with a binding up one side -- very boring and difficult to tell apart from many similar looking icons on my desktop. I was thinking that this is the best I can get with Leopard but I see that this unhappy Stacks user - http://www.davidillig.com/whatamess.shtml - has the regular red PDF icons on his desktop so I'm wondering why I don't.
When I do a Get Info on one of my boring PDF icons, the icon at the top of the Get Info window is the red icon that I want -- so why is it not showing on the desktop? Do I need to install Adobe Reader -- I currently only have Acrobat Pro installed and all PDF files are set to open in Pro (which is how I want it since Reader is too limited for my needs)? Hard to imagine that Pro would give me different file icons though...
    Simon

It's showing an icon preview of the document. I imagine it is boring looking because the file itself contains boring content. You can turn off icon preview with "Show View Options."

    Hi ...
Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

  • How to view images in TextEdit documents on Lion, created under an earlier OS

I have a lot of TextEdit documents with pasted pictures ("Pasted Graphic.pict") from my times on Tiger and a PPC Mac. However when viewing these documents on Lion the pictures won't appear. I can very well open "Package Contents" of the .rtfd files and navigate to the .pict files and view them in iPhoto but not in Preview, let alone in TextEdit on Lion.
I am moving all my data from Tiger to Lion and need to be able to view the content of my documents on the new platform. Is there a trick -- a converter perhaps? I have searched online and it seems that .pict is deprecated? Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    -martin

Good idea, changing the files to PDF. Unfortunately I can only do that on the old system. I apologize - my question should have been "How to convert TextEdit documents with pictures to use them in TextEdit on Lion" -- I mean I can edit the text and delete the images on Lion but without seeing the pictures I am missing the context of the document's information.
I cannot believe that I'm the only guy here with this problem. Did I paste images into TextEdit in a weird way so that I have problems now? TextEdit is THE text editor on the Mac and it seems strange to me that I cannot easily move it's data from one platform to another.
I skipped Leopard and SnowLeopard - perhaps that's why I'm out of luck now

  • How do I change a PDF to a word document?

How do i change aa PDF to a word document?

In Mac preferred method (because it uses Adobe's PDF engine):
Save file as word Document (for Backup)
    Go to Print Menu
Click and hold on PDF button until context menu appears
    Choose Adobe PDF
Wait for menu to change - choose quality (this eqivelent to job options in Distiller) and turn off open with Reader (or Acrobat)
Then click okay to go to nex window item
Either use Title assigned or change (I usually remove references to Microsoft Word-, and .docx so it just shows as for example Joes.pdf),
Browse (pick out) to desired save Location.
    Click Save.
Go to location saved and open.
Notes: Expect to multiple PDF if the Word document page have switches in Page orientations.
URL links won't cme over with this method.
To have Urls to be active (except those created with the Format menu > URL)
    Do the following:
    Locate the Word Document
Locate the acrobat Icon on the Dock (similar to Start up menu on PC)
Drag the word document to the icon of Acrobat on Dock and Drop
Wait ........... You might have enough time to boil you a pot of coffee
When PDF pops up on screen save at once!
You will now have a document that will have live MailTo's and URL's except for those created with the URL wizard ( select desired word> go to Formtat menu > URL >when opens type desired URL or Mailto)
This is a 15 year old bug Adobe refuses to fix. Don't bleive the blather the put out bout the proper hook in Mac Version That's been proven as false years ago.

  • PDF icons?

Before Yosemite, the icon of a PDF document always showed the image of the first page of the document.  Now that I have installed Yosemite, all the PDFs on my Desktop show the Preview icon:
The thumbnail image is a much better guide to the contents of a PDF than the gibberish in the titles of most PDFs that come in from elsewhere.
Is there some setting in Preview or the OS to make the PDF icon show again the first page of the PDF?

Here is the PDF icon that somehow did not get into my question:

  • Firefox 31 changes all PDF icons to Firefox HTML icons that I can not seem to change back, can this be rectified? Using Windows XP.....

Once Firefox 31 is installed it sees all PDF files as Firefox HTML files and changes all of the PDF icons to Firefox HTML icons. This change can not seem to be reversed without uninstalling Firefox.
Only the icon is changed, not the .PDF extension.

Thank you for your reply but it's not that simple:
Windows now thinks that the default file type for .pdf is Firfox HTML Document.
I can change which program opens .pdf files but I can't change the icon.
    Not a Firefox problem? Really?
    EDIT:
Let me explain further so that you can understand. In folder options / file types I can scroll thru and choose any file type / advanced and change the icon...every one of them except (now) .pdf. There is no advanced tab. Only the message about "restore" I mentioned before.
Firefox changed the file association for .pdf files and now I can't fix it.
    And from another thread:
"Firefox 31 is not converting or renaming your files. All it is doing is registering with the Windows OS as an application that is able to open the files and Windows then changes the file's icons accordingly.
This should only occur if no other application has already registered your .pdf files."
Well I guess that's not true is it?

  • Text of pdf, but no pdf icon appears in email

I have received an email on my iPad with a pdf attachment. When I open the email, the whole text of the pdf appears in the body of the email, but there is no attachment icon anywhere to allow me to open the pdf and print it or send it to iBooks.  Is there some way to get that pdf icon to show up?

This is because it is only a single paged document. Press down in the middle of it for a prompt box to open and take it from there!

  • Pdf link in a document

How can I put a pdf document icon inside a pages document so that you can click on it and open up a the pdf document separately? In other words, I don't want the pdf document to actually be laid out in the pages document, I just want the pdf icon put in so that someone can choose to read the extra material. Every time I try, it just inserts the first page of the pdf into the pages document, not what I want. I'm using Pages '08

Embed the Pages document in the .pdf?
    No
Turn the Pages document into a .pdf and and link from/to another .pdf?
    Yes.
Drag a .pdf file into a Pages document?
Yes, but you only get the 1st page, unless you drag a specific page from Preview .apps' sidebar.

  • Export PDF icon disappears on IR runtime version in Workspace

    Hello,
We have implemented Hyperion BI+ 9.3.1. We are faced with a peculiar issue in Production and I am hoping that someone can shed some light.
We have developed a bqy document that has dashboards. This document when published in it's original format (uncompacted) in Workspace, displays the Export PDF icon on the report toolbar; however, if we create a runtime version of this document (using Dashboard Studio) and publish the runtime version in Workspace, the Export PDF icon disappears.
We have been trying to see if we can enable this icon on the toolbar using Javascripts in the Dashboard's Script section and have been unsuccessful.
Have any of you encountered this or does anyone know if we are attempting to enable a feature that just cannot be enabled in the runtime version?
Any help or insight is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rajesh

We found a solution to this issue. When creating a runtime version of the bqy using Dashboard Studio, Step 7 (Properties) has several Toolbars properties (LAN Client and Plug-in) that are by default set to False. When we set these Toobar properties (especially LAN Client) to True, the Export PDF icon displays on the runtime version in Workspace.
The documentation (IR Volume 5) was misleading. It described Plug-in to be Web Browser/Thin Client and LAN Client as the Client environment leading us to initially believe that the LAN Client settings will have no effect in Workspace.
I am posting this in case someone else runs into this issue.
    Thanks
    Rajesh
