.PDF image's blacks look grey in Adobe Acrobat Reader

I need to save my design as a CMYK .PDF file and I have created the image in Photoshop CS6 in RGB, changed the image mode to CMYK, for black used C:40 M:40 Y: 20 K:100, and when saved the file as a Photoshop .PDF- it opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader looking washed out and grey. I only used three colors (black, white, and red) and the black is the most noticeably greyed out. The red also looks slighty washed out. But the weird thing is- when I open the .PDF in Photoshop, all the colors look right.
I've tried googling this and messing around in Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Reader all day and just can't come up with a solution.
I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff so I'm really lost. I really need the file to be the right colors in .PDF. Please, can anyone help me?
Below is a comaprison image of the design .PDF file opened in Photoshop versus opened up in Adobe Acrobat Reader:
This is truly driving me crazy.

Thanks Viking, I was hoping to get some suggestions on how to go about creating PDF's from OSX (Quartz) that will look acceptable in the "default" PDF reader of clients and colleagues. Most are likely to be some version of Adobe so I'm wondering what others do in this situation.
I've tried using the PDF resident fonts and they still look quite "blocky and jagged" on Adobe Reader. They still print out fine - it's just the screen rendering in Adobe is sub-par.
I've sent a version of the doc in Word to a colleague who printed it to PDF on his PC and it come back looking much better on my version of Adobe Reader and quite good in Preview. Admittedly the version I PDF'd in OSX looked better on Preview.
So if you have a bunch of potential readers of PDF's what's the best approach to get them to render "acceptably" on screen? At this stage it would seem the solution is to NOT use a Quartz driven PDF tool (ie avoid any of the native Mac apps) and buy Adobe Acrobat or a Windows PC to produce PDF's from?
I get the feeling I must be missing something basic here? I'm not looking for publishing quality output, just a PDF where the fonts dont look flaky when rendered onscreen outside a Quartz environment.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader displaying boxes in place of dashes

My company is having an issue with Word documents that have dashes and are converted to PDF.  On the resulting PDF when viewed with Acrobat Reader, the dashes are being displayed as boxes instead of dashes.  This is causing an issue with an OCR application that one of our clients is using resulting in the document to show as blank after the first box is encountered.
I have searched for possible reasons why this could be happening and I have not been successful.
Most of our users utilize Nuance PDF Create 7.0 and some still use Amyuni PDF Converter 2.1 to convert their Word documents to PDF.  I have tried to replicate this and have not been able to.  I have used Word 2003, 2007 and 2010 along with each PDF converter listed above as well as Adobe Acrobat reader version 9.1.0, 9.3.0 and 10.1.6 to view the PDFs.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

What wiki? What 64-bit version of Adobe reader (there isn't one AFAIK)?
Please be more informative in your questions. Better yet, search before asking, which should lead you to the well-known conclusion that Adobe does not have a 64-bit reader for linux (yet).

  • Deploying Adobe Acrobat Reader X to the enterprise - transform problems

We've started looking into deploying Adobe Acrobat Reader 10 and have noticed some odd behavior when using a transform made with the Adobe Customization Wizard (version 10).  On Windows XP machines, all of the configured settings work properly (online components disabled, certificates, etc).  On our Windows 7 PCs we see inconsistant results.  Sometimes the settings are applied, other times the user logs in and receives the base set of options.
    1) Any idea what could be happening?
    2) I assume that the settings are stored by profile.  Could anyone point me to where they live (directory? registry? both?)

how to reduce a PDF file size under Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The size is now 23MB; I need it to be less than 4MB. thanks

I've found in Pdf's many time when you go to Optimize a PDF and look at the font list there are often up to a 1/2dozen copies of a given font, say Helvetica, then that many Helvetica Bold, or Arial or Ariel Italic
What I do ie remove from list all but one copy of each different font. often dramatically reduces the size. also something lese is Flattening images will in some cases reduce a file size. I have run into a case where it actually made a PDF Larger.

  • Chrome - Adobe-Acrobat/Reader can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.

I can't view PDF files via Chrome (it works on Internet Explorer but I prefer Chrome)  -  the error below has arisen recently on Chrome, though I can't see what has changed.
    "Acrobat plug-in
The Adobe-Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit  Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
I have looked through Forum articles on similar errors and have tried the following(text copied from other Forum entries)
    Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Acrobat)
Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Control Panel
Configure Acrobat  as a helper application: Choose Edit > Preferences., Select Internet on the left., Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.Quit Acrobat or Reader
Create a registry item for Acrobat: with Regedit: If the registry item doesn't exist on the system, do the following: Go to Edit > New > Key and create the missing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe.Go to Edit > New > String Value and name this key (Default).Select (Default), and then go to Edit > Modify. Type the Adobe Acrobat path in the "Value data" for your product.,restart your computer
Repair the HKCR\AcroExch.Document registry key: Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document., Right-click AcroExch.Document and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts, Right-click AcroExch.Document.7 and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts. Repair your Acrobat  installation
None has solved the problem. However it still works ok with IE. But I want to stick with Chrome because I find IE is so slow!
I am using Vista, with Adobe Acrobat standard 9.5.2 and Google Chrome version 23.0.1271.64 m which is marked on Chrome as 'up to date'
Does anyone know why I might be getting this error on Chrome but not IE?

I think I have discovered the answer to my own question!
I have disabled Adobe Reader plug-in, and can now see PDFs in Chrome.
(Steps: Chrome Menu, Settings option, Click Advanced Settings link, then Content Settings button, then select Disable Individual Plug-Ins, and a list of plug-ins is offered to enable or disable).
I then get a different result depending on whether or not Chrome PDF viewer is enabled - with it enabled I see the PDF document in Chrome, or with it disabled then the option is offered to download it, but either way I can get it it via Chrome without having to run Internet explorer in another browser window.

    Hello,
I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader want to modify my pdf when closing it. Why?

    Hi,
I'm working on a small and simple pdf generator (as said in my previous question).
When opening my generated pdf with Adobe Acrobat Reader, all is OK.
But when I'm closing it, Adobe Reader popup a message asking  if I want to save the modifications.
Why Adobe Reader want to modifiy my pdf??
Is there something wrong with it?
Here is a realy tiny small sample of a one blank page generated pdf (all is pure ASCII because there is no compression, no data stream,... and it's a copy/paste from a text editor, so I've no translated typo into my message).
I think I've followed the specification; but perhaps I've missed something?

    And so.. what is invalid?
I've uploaded the pdf files as example:
    My generated pdf
    http://compuhelp.free.fr/adobe/before.pdf
The modified version by Adobe Acrobat Reader:
    http://compuhelp.free.fr/adobe/after.pdf
(I can generate a more complexe pdf file with fonts, images,... it will be displayed correctly, but Adobe always want to modifiy it).
So perhaps I missed somthing into the pdf file format specification ?

  • Picture in PDF broken in Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows

    Hi,
I always thought that Adobe's PDF-format is the ultimative, interchangeable file format. Well, what a surprise: it isn't:
I have a picture in a PDF document.
It is displayed fine on my Mac in Preview and in Adobe Acrobat 8.
The picture has severe distortions on Windows (eg. current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader).
You can find this PDF here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/285107/Picture.pdf
Please let me know how I can fix this?
Furthermore I would love to know why even Adobe cannot manage to display the PDF correctly under Windows?
    Thanks
    Daniel

Ok, just to summarize the status of my PDF:
Doesn't work in Adobe Acrobat X Pro (Win XP)
Doesn't work in Adobe Acrobat Reader X (Win XP)
Works just fine in Evince (Win XP)
Works in Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro (Mac)
    Works in Preview (Mac)
    Works in Skim (Mac)
So most of the rederers tested display it correctly. For me that looks like a huge inconsitency in the Adobe Acrobat product family. It is not platform specific, because it does work in Windows as well (using other renderers).
I have two issues with that:
How come that Adobe Acrobat seems to be the only renderer with issues with this file?
Why do some version of Adobe Acrobat display it, while others don't?
To me that really sucks since I trusted the portability of PDF and my own Pro version of AA on my Mac far too much!
My lessons learnt here: Do not use Adobe products since they cannot be used consistently accross platforms (see Flash for another example).
Since the support policy of Adobe does only offer this forum free-of-charge even for obviously valid bugs, I decline to report this (again) as a bug due to my own time constraints.
