PDF Import error "doesn't contain a 'Art' crop type"

I am creating Proceedings for a conference that consists of research papers. Most of these papers are exported to PDF from some flavor or LaTeX. I need to import these PDFs into InDesign.
Most of the time, this works fine, but this particular batch of papers is putting up a real fight:
When I get this error, simply opening the PDF and performing a "Save As" does not work. Selecting a different crop type doesn't work. Exporting to postscript and distilling usually works, but it's quite time consuming and also adds another step to the process where something can go wrong.
Does anyone know what this error means and if there is a better way to deal with it? Asking the authors to fix their PDFs is not an option, take my word for it.
Thanks,
Michele

@Michele – if placing PDFs you have import options in the dialog of selecting a PDF file.
Tell InDesign to "crop" these PDFs to "Media". That should work.

  • Upload from iAd Producer fails with error "The Ad contains an invalid banner type".

    I worked half a day on an ad in iAd Producer, only to see it fails right after the upload with this error:
    "The Ad contains an invalid banner type"
    "iAd Workbench currently accepts standard banners. Remove all other banner types and try upload your banner again."
    The error and the documentation give no hints on what these "standard banners" are exactly. My project is based on the Tap - Web iAd Blueprint, which requires a bunch of images to be created. I created all of these, regular images as jpeg, transparent images as png. At first the png's were normal (24-bit), but then I read in the help that 8-bit is required. Downgrading the png's to 8-bit didn't help to fix the error though. I also tried recreating the whole project, but it didn't help: same error.
    Before the upload, I get this vague warning:
    "Are you sure you want to upload your project with assets missing? There are 0 assets you haven't provided yet."
    Sounds like a bug. This warning was there in my 1st and in my 2nd project, the 2nd one being the exact copy.
    Finally I want to say that simulating in the simulator or Safari, or uploading to the sandbox works fine.
    I'm using version 4.2 of iAd Producer on OS X 10.9.2.
    Can anyone help me?
    Has anyone been successful with the Tap - Web iAd Blueprint?

    The Tap to Web blueprint for iPad contains banner types currently not supported in iAd Workbench.  Delete the MRec and Full Page banners and you should be able to upload.

  • PS PDF Import Error

    Had a .jpeg file that I added vector text to. Saved as a PS PDF file (with editable text layer). Tried to import into InD CS5 and keep getting messages "Failed to open the PDF file"...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    http://mysite.verizon.net/peterpica/toon-nothing.pdf

    No problem, the reason you had the problem is because if you don't have it ticked InDesign tries to use the last settings you chose.  If for example that was to place to the trim box and the PDF you're placing doesn't have one then InDesign gets confused and refuses to place it at all.

  • Rmic and "contains an invalid return type."

    Hello,
    since two days, rmic does not compile anymore. rmic is called via an Ant job like this:
    <javac srcdir="${src}" destdir="${bin}" depend="true">
    </javac>
    <rmic base="${bin}" includes="../**/*.class" iiop="true" idl="true">
    </rmic>
    And I get errors like
    [rmic] error: Class Session contains an invalid return type.
    in the Eclipse output console. On the other hand, the Session interface looks like this:
    public interface Session extends Remote {
    public Enumeration enumerateLocks() throws RemoteException;
    [more Methods]
    (yes, all methods throw RemoteException)
    If I comment out all methods of Session, other messages appear, such as:
    [rmic] error: Class ....AccessService contains an invalid argument type in method findSession.
    [rmic] error: Class Loader contains an invalid return type.
    [rmic] error: Class ....Service contains an invalid argument type in method init.
    All classes compile fine with both Jikes and the Eclipse compiler.
    Thanks for any help,
    Johann

    Sorry, even if I comment out Enumeration, rmic will not compile the classes. To me it looks like something in the interface for Session is wrong, but I dont know what it is...
    public interface Session extends Remote {
    public Unique sessionID() throws RemoteException;
    public long sessionCreated() throws RemoteException;
    public long sessionDestroyed() throws RemoteException;
    public void destroySession() throws RemoteException;
    public int actionsPerformed() throws RemoteException;
    public Enumeration enumerateActions() throws RemoteException;
    public Lock createLock(Reference ref) throws RemoteException, LockedException;
    public Lock createLock(Reference ref, long milliseconds)
    throws RemoteException, LockedException;
    public void releaseAllLocks() throws RemoteException;
    public Enumeration enumerateLocks() throws RemoteException;
    public boolean isDestroyed() throws RemoteException;
    If I comment out all methods in Session, I can compile Session with rmic, but other errors appear:
    [rmic] error: Class ...AccessService contains an invalid argument type in method isValidSession.
    [rmic] error: Class Loader contains an invalid return type.
    [rmic] error: Class ...Service contains an invalid argument type in method init.

    I too am getting this error in Premiere CS5.  I was digitizing a Broadcast VHS and since I did not have a breakout box, I hooked it up to a Sony DV deck so I could connect via firewire and capture inside Premiere.  I was able to capture and import 1 of the 3 clips and it did have 4 audio channels attached to it.  However, upon closer inspection only 2 channels had a waveform.  I captured the other 2 clips the same way, but this time, Premiere give the error "The file contains too many audio channels."
    Any ideas?

  • Publishing server doesn't work - error 'The request URL doesn't contain the query string for the client OS'

    Hi,
    I'm trying to setup an App-V environment in my lab.
    I've used the App-V 5.0 Trial guide to help me configure all necessary components.
    I'm able to install everything without error.
    when come time to publish an app, it simply doesn't show up on my client.
    after looking at events on the client and server, I found that the Publishing server is returning under Admin the following message.
    'The request URL doesn't contain the query string for the client OS'
    My setup is pretty simple.
    App-V Server managament and Publishing on the same box
    App-V database on my SQL server.
    I'm able to see the publishing "webpage" by using http:://localhost:889.
    It only display this :
    -<Publishing Protocol="1.0"
    <Packages />
    </Publishing>
    I've published one app from the management console.
    any idea what could mean this error?
    thanks

    Hi,
    thanks for the link.
    I've validated the suggested debug steps. It seems that the problem is with my Publish server again.
    I've looked in the web.config file. It seems to be missing some parts compare to the example provided.
    Again, I've published an application from the management console. Management and Publishing are running on the same box, while SQL is remote.

    Hi,
    Please also check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.
    In addition, also check Device Manager, if similar driver already installed, try to uninstall them and reinstall new driver again for test.

  • Word to Pages "Import Error"

    I have a load of files created by drag and drop editing of pdf files into Word tables. I want to use pages to edit these ... it should be easier with services. Most of the files open fine, but a few give me an Import Error. Any ideas? There are no obbvious differences between the accepted files and the rejected files. I mightjust gie up with Pages, leaving it for the Mrs to play with ... Keynote seems nice though!
    (Sorry is this has been asked and sorted, but search is off-line and I couldn't find it in the messages when I browsed)

    Julian,
    Pages simply won't support a table with that many rows. If you need that many, you must use another application.
    Perhaps the originator could use a tabbed list rather than a table. That's the only way you will be able to contain a list that long in Pages. You can do the conversion yourself if you open the Word document in LibreOffice, Copy the Table, Paste the Table into Numbers, Export the Numbers doc to CSV, and import to Pages. In Pages Find and Replace the Commas with Tabs.
    There are probably other ways, but that's what comes to mind here.

  • Import error with MPEG-2 files: Brorsoft Video Converter to Apple Prores.

    Hi,
    The Brorsoft Video Converter software gives me an 'import error' message when I attempt to import files from a folder on my desktop. That folder contains many mpg files (MPEG-2 Video, AC3). Those files in the folder on my desktop came from a Sony video camera.
    I need to convert those mpg files to Apple Prores 422 HQ so I can then edit them in Apple Final Cut Pro X.
    But when I go to import those mpg files into the Brorsoft Video Converter software, it comes up with a message saying: 'import error', indicating that the Brorsoft Video Converter software does not understand the type of file.
    I am on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
    I've emailed Brorsoft support but I don't think English is their first language – they've emailed back to me asking for clarification of the problem. And I need the problem fixed as I have to edit this video for someone that has many waiting customers.
    Could something have changed in the files when I copied them from the video camera to the desktop?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for your prompt reply. I was using a friend's video camera – I've just texted him for the exact model of Sony video camera. I didn't yet have the Brorsoft Video Converter software when I had to give the video camera back to my friend. So, I copied the files off the video camera to my desktop.
    It records onto an internal hard drive. And yes you're right, I don't need to go HQ. I also tried plain Apple Pro Res. That didn't work either. It comes up with 'Import error' message, so it seems like it just doesn't understand the file type.
    When I go 'Get Info' on one of the files off the camera, it tells me it is an 'MPEG-2 video, AC3' file.
    I'll try and get MPEG Streamclip like you suggested and see if that works.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    I used the scriptgen cmd to generate the scr file called walletApp.src

    I know somethings wrong with my walletApp.scr,
    may I have your advise,
    Thanx

    Sorry...
    I think I was too careless.
    I managed to open the .scr file already.
    I have added some scripts into it and it works properly.
    The scripts I've added:
    powerup;
    0x00 0xA4 0x04 0x00 0x09 0xa0 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x62 0x03 0x01 0x08 0x01 0x7F;
    powerdown;
    But I discovered that my walletApp.scr is totally different with the sample given in the walletdemo directory.
    my walletApp.src:

  • CS6 File Import Error

    MAC PRO 2 x 2.93 GHz 6 Core
    12 GB 1333 MJZ DDR3 Ram
    Kona 3 card
    Quadro 4000 graphics card
    Video drive Apple XServe raid
    plus 2 TB G-raid & 3, 2 TB internal 7200 RPM drives
    OS 10.7.4
    CS6.0.1.31
    I have run into this "File Import Error"  several times since installing the PP update and the new AJA drivers for CS6.
    The message tells me that the file is an unsupported format or that it's damaged.  These files will open if I keep trying and they'll also open in QT player and in After Effects and eventually in PP.
    Also when I open an existing project I consistently get a dialogue box:
    "The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable.  To open this project, the scratch disks will be set to your documents folder.  Would you like to continue?
    second dialogue appears
    "The project could not be loaded.  It may be damaged or contain outdated elements.
    Then another:
    "Video filter missing
    AE_A7D2C2A2-6AB7-4551-84A6-45830F6ADF3C"
    If I try the project a coupl.e of times it will usually open, showing the first and third dialogue box, but not the second saying that it is damaged.
    Of course none of the scrazttch disks are locked.
    Problem #3
    All day yesterday could not render any clips or timeline.  Today I repaired permissions and seem to now be ble to render.
    Problem #4
    Sent the unrendered timeline to Media encoder, hoping the Media Encoder would be able to render and it just locked up with no encode.
    I deleted the files and now Media encoder seems to be working.
    Something very Hinkey going on.  Anyone have any ideas or solutions to prevent this from happening in the future.
    Thanks...Jim Watt

    Problem 1: What sort of file(s) are you trying to import when you get the error?
    Problem 2: Was the previous scartch disk setting pointing to a drive that is not available on your current system? If so, open the project then change the scratch disk manually to whiver drive/directory you want... Or just accept the default.
    Problem 3: Glad that worked... doesn't that negate probelm 4?
    Problem 4: Timeline rendering and rendering at export are two different things. They are not directly related, so an export will not render the timelien for you. You did the right thing by deleteing your existing preview files. That's always a good thing to do after upgrading old projects to current versions. Plus, it saves a lot of storage space if you do that whenever you're 'done' with a project.

  • Theme Import  Error in themes editor.

    Hi All,
    I am using NW04s SP07 for which I have installed the Themes Editor Plugins.
    When I try to import a client provided theme into NWDS (SAP UR Design Perspective), an error pops up:
    The Design could not be imported. No portalData available. The stream that should be imported seems not to contain valid design data.
    Please help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Radhika

    Hi Radhika
    You have to use Eclipse for theme editing.
    You can find the installed eclipse executable along with the NWDS executable at Program FilesSAPIDEIDE70eclipse or You can either download the fresh version from:

I can't find any classes and I try loading it into a Java BeanBox and it gives me the error that it doesn't contain any beans. Anyone know how to fix this or what I'm doing wrong? I need to be able to communicate between a Java Application and LabVIEW RT.

  • Processing this item failed because of a PDF parser error. Input string was not in a correct format.

    Good Morning,
    We're having issues parsing several hundred PDF files located in two separate Record Center sites. All other PDF documents in the environment are being crawled and parsed without issue. I've verified the permissions for the Search service account, but that
    doesn't seem to be the issue. Searching for this particular error hasn't returned much, but I have ensured that the Search service account has been added to the necessary Local Security Policy objects and cleared the configuration cache. Any help would be
    greatly appreciated.

    This issue came back up for me as my results aren't displaying since this data is not part of the search index.
    Curious if anyone knows of a way to increase the parser server memory in SharePoint 2013 search?

  • Error: Schema to be handled does not contain a defintion of type

    When I import a xsd file to create a data type in the integration repository, I am getting the error "schema to be handled does not contain a defintion of type <name_of_the_Data_Type>.
    Any ideas
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    --Kumar

    I am briging some vendor information from R3 system to XI thru IDOC. The IDOC Type is "CREMAS.CREMAS01".
    I am able to import this into Integration Repository in XI. XI is translating this into XML.
    Now insted of creating data types manually, I would like to export this XML into XSD and import into the data type.
    When importing this XSD into data type I am getting this error message.
