Just copy the PDF into the folder where your other site files
are, and link
to it like any other file. Of course it must be uploaded to
the server along
with all your other files.

is there a way to make a PDF from Dreamweaver??
    Thanks

No, but you can write a script that will create a PDF when you browse to it. What is it you want to do?

Can I add a pdf in dreamweaver?

Just like you would link to any HTML page.  PDF will display according to visitors' preferences.

  • A user uploads a new pdf (using Dreamweaver) but still gets the old version back in browser.

She downloads the file from the site, and gets the old version of the file instead of the one she just uploaded. I tried it myself and everything is done correctly: the new file is on the server but download keeps displaying the old version. Dreamweaver ticks off the bytes as they are going upstream. I can RDP to the server and see that the newer version is there (by datetime stamp). She is using IE 8 if relevant.
This only happens with pdf, no caching is turned on in IIS6 - all content updates are instant.
I have gone in to the temp internet files and deleted the cached version of the file and emptied the trash (Win XP) but it still serves the old version.
This issue has been reported by other users, but I thought it was user error until it was staring me in the face.
My final verification was to upload the new document with a new name, delete the old document, and rename the new name to the old name - after that it delivered the new document
How do I tell the (non-tech) user fix this?
I've seen references to this on other sites (now that I know it is real, I dug deeper) but the solutions proposed mostly seem to involve changing the query string by adding somthing to the end of it.
This is out of reach of my user.
I can't be the first person to encounter this right?
And note that I went into the server... the document was uploaded, and IIS caching is off.
I was told by someone here (and I can't reproduce it in my office) that I should tell the user to go to Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences | Internet.
Then tell her to uncheck all three boxes (display in browser, allow fast, and allow speculative)
But I don't see how that would fix it - remember that I deleted the pdf from the internet cache and that didn't solve it.
    Thanks,

    I've faced this before too.
I've tried many different approaches but the most reliable way I've ever found of handling it is to rename the new PDF each time (e.g. adding the revision date into the filename) and update the link in the web page to point to the renamed PDF.
    Works every time.

    Nor me.

  • Linking PDF to Dreamweaver

Im trying to link a .pdf to my Dreamweaver document so that readers can view online.  I added the .pdf as an asset in Dreamweaver and linked it just as I would any other link.  However when I view it I get this message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your web browser and try again."
I do not have Acrobat or Reader open!  Does anyone know what is going on?  Or even better, can someone explain how I can publish a .pdf on my website so that when the page is visited it automatically appears without having to click on another link.
    Thanks for the help.

    A good question.
Asking at the Dreamweaver forum may elicit a more useful set of replies.

  • Problems with PDFS in Dreamweaver

I'm new to Dreamweaver. I need to replace some PDFs that have outdated information. I created new PDFs, saved them to the root, broke the old link, made a new link, connecting the new PDF, selected ctrl + double click to open the PDF to make sure it was there, saved the file, and put the file up. Then, when I  open the changed links in the browser, I get a 404. When I go back to reconnect the old, outdated links, they work, but none of the new links do. It's definitely a user error--I can't find any resources to help me past the problem and  I absolutely cannot see what I am doing differently or wrong. It's making me crazy! I hope you can help! Thanks!

Thank you for your comments. I think it is a path issue, but I don't know how to fix. I'm sure it's something simple too. I saved the PDFs to the same folders that had the old PDFs.
They appear as though they are uploaded correctly into dreamweaver. I can see them in the root directory within their respective folders, and when I select the text that makes the link, the link appears at the bottom of the screen so it looks as though it will be published correctly, but then it isn't.

  • Linking a pdf in dreamweaver

I am learning dreamweaver and I have read and watched many videos on linking a pdf in my web page yet I am still having trouble. I have the file in my webpage folder, called 10brochure.pdf when I view it in sarafi before I upload it, it shows the file is there and opens. Yet when I publish it to the web it says NOT FOUND, The request URL/10brochure.pdf was not found on this server. Please check out www.mmo-stanstevens.com/pages/trophy_gallery.html to see where I am having trouble with 2010 and 2009 pdf, 2 years ago someone else added 06-08
    Thank you

Your pathway to the file seems to be off after looking at your code.2008 and 2007 have "
../pdf/2008_report.pdf" you need the same for 2009 and 2010. Is has a path of
"../09brochure.pdf". Make sure the 09 and 10 pdf's are in your pdf folder in your root and correct the path in your dreamweaver doc with /pdf/10brochure.pdf. Hope that helps

  • How do I import a pdf into Dreamweaver CS4?

I converted a Golive site to CS4, when I added a new pdf to my newsletter page and linked to it, I get an error message that the file can't be found. Everything looks to be correct. If I link to an older newsletter that was in the Golive site, so was there when I converted the site, the link works.

GET and PUT are one of the fundamentals concepts for managing sites with Dreamweaver (or any ftp client)

  • PDF of Dreamweaver CS3?

Im looking to make a digital proof of my website so that I can email it  without having to send the files (I only want to make a digital image -  jpg, pdf, etc.), but somehow Acrobat does not seem to be compatible with  Dreamweaver!  I've tried opening the site up in Firefox and creating a  pdf from there, but when it opens in Acrobat there is basically only  text.  Any ideas how I could make a digital copy?  Surely, there has to  be a way that professionals make proofs for clients!

    Personally, I use Snagit.
You will be able to create a fully functional PDF (among many other things) of the page.

  • Linking PDFs in Dreamweaver

I'm wanting to link a .pdf into a Dreamweaver web page so that readers can view it online.
Does anyone know how I can do this or if it's possible? Ideally, I would really like to publish a .pdf on my website so that when the page is visited it automatically appears without having to click on another link. I have searched everywhere I can think of in numerous ways and keep coming up empty!
Thanks in advance  for any help you can give me!

You really have no control over how people view their PDFs locally.
It's dependent on local user settings. You hardly ever see embedded PDFs on web pages because there's no guarantee that they'll work as you intend.
This is currently done in Publisher and then converted to a PDF. They don't want to have to teach their members about downloading plug-ins.
If you know of another program they can use to develope a newsletter that can be printed, put in an e-mail, and published on a web site that doesn't require conversion to PDF -- I and they would love the answer to that as well!
Most people already have a PDF viewer (such as Acrobat Reader) installed so a link to a PDF is usually all that is required.
It's the lowest maintenance, and most widely used, option without requiring lots of instructions.
If you want to research alternative approaches, which version of Publisher is being used?
You can export Publisher documents as self-contained websites which can then be uploaded.
However I suspect most people would prefer reading a PDF which looks familiar and they can print.

Like Mike mentioned already, best to ask in the dreamweaver forum.
But you'll have two choices. You can simply link to the PDF and for many, it will open in their browser. For some, it will prompt to download the file so they can open in Reader or Acrobat (or whatever they use to view PDF's).
You can also "embed" the PDF in the page so it shows on a page. The only time you want to do this is when you have other elements on the page that you want them to see at the same time.
Again, you'll want to ask any further questions in the Dreamweaver forum.

  • PROBLEM GETTING PDF INTO DREAMWEAVER

I tried to place a copy of a PDF in my site Folder using copy and and paste but the paste is field protected.
I made sure pdf title was in all lower case. What am I doing wrong that I can n
    ot use copy and paste?
Any other suggestions as to how I can get pdf file into dreamweaver site folder?
Ok. Please excuse my format and lack of info until I get comfortable with this site and please don't hesitate to tell me what I am doing wrong on this site - in a nice way I hope.

HTML is a web document.  PDF is a print document and must be treated as a separate media file.  The best you can do is provide a direct link to the PDF file on your server.
If the end user has Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader and the necessary browser plug-ins, they can usually click the link and the PDF file will launch in their browser.  If not, they won't see anything unless they download the file and open Acrobat or some other PDF application.

Are you working from a properly Defined Site in DW?

If you are, your PDFs should be in your local files before they're ever uploaded to the server.
If they exist in your local Defined Site, all you need to do is...
    1. Highlight the text you want to use as the links in Design View
    2. Browse (click the folder icon by the Link field), point (click and drag the point to file crosshair by the link field to the PDF in the Files window) or type in the path of the PDF to the Link field of the Properties window.
    3. Save
    4. Upload both the modified page and the PDFs

  • Print PDFs from Dreamweaver using Javascript

I need to print several PDF'S from a coldfusion application.
I understand that you can use Javascript if you need to print
several pdfs in sequence. Do you know of a script that will
    print several documents ?

When you select print from the menu bar a print
window opens. Verify that the correct printer is
selected. Adobe will over ride some defaults and put
in itself. Let me know if this didn't work.
Thanks Glynn, but the correct printer is indeed selected. This is a weird one!
