PDF in iBOOKS missing blocks.
Most of my PDF's are viewable fine on iPAD.
But a few books when synced via iTUNES/PC, will have blank blocks of each page missing. its as if there's a "cell" or some rectangular block of white space on each page, in different places.
I've even synced the same PDF with GoodReader, and a few other PDF readers.
Please help!
Not an uncommon problem when importing .pdfs. Evidently has to do with the translation software iPad uses and the way the pdf was created. I have several auction catalogs where all the pictures are missing and others where the text looks like it was written in Klingon. They work fine on my pc but load screwy in the iPad.
There was a long thread on it a while back......

No signature when sending PDF through IBooks on IPhone 4GS
When sending a PDF from IBooks on my IPhone, The Email Signature appears in the body of the email as if it is going to be sent with the email. The recipent of the email will not see the signature in the body of the email. It appears like a text file in the form of an attachment. Is there a fix or work around to this?
So I sent an email from iBooks to myself and my signature came through just fine. Not sure how you might solve your missing signature. Are you running iOS 5.0.1?
You might try a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
This seems to correct numerous problems on the iPad maybe it will help you. -
How can I open a PDF in iBooks on iPhone 5s?
I have PDFs in iBooks. When I try to open them it says I should open them with Adobe Reader. I downloaded Adobe Reader but can't seem to get the PDFs to open with it.
I found a previous thread saying that you can't use Adobe Reader with iBooks, but that was before the 5s came out, so I'm starting a new thread. If you can't open a PDF from iBooks with Adobe Reader, why is it telling me to use Adobe Reader? And how else can I open it?
This shows what happens when I try to read my PDF, and click on the icon that's supposed to let me open it in Adober Reader:This particular file is a PDF Portfolio, which needs Flash to display correctly. When you open a PDF Portfolio in the Adobe Reader mobile it will open in list view to get around the fact that Flash isn't supported on iOS. So, it won't open properly in a native viewer on iOS only within the Adobe Reader.

When I click Buy for a 2011 card, the message says I have missing photos, but a pdf shows nothing missing -- how can I resolve this?

Please explain what you mean by "Buy for a 2011 card" and what you did before you saw that message.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject. In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that. -
Password protected PDF in iBooks not displaying
I loaded a password protected PDF into my iTunes library and then synced it with iPad (4th gen iOS 6.1.3). I see the PDF in iBooks on the iPad and when I click on it, it prompts for the password. I input the password and PDF "opens" but it's just the blank grey screen showing page 1/1 (it's supposed to be a 79 page document). Any ideas? I took the password off the document and loaded that one into iTunes then my iPad and it displays just fine. I did this same sequence with a different document and with the password it didn't display and without the password it did display.
If there is an issue with iBooks, any way to sideload this into Adobe Reader, or somehow "Open in" Adobe Reader from iBooks?
Thanks
DanIt looks like this issue may be limited to files that have been set to restrict the user's ability to print or edit the document (even after a password has been entered for viewing). I found that a password-protected PDF could be viewed in iBooks, but after I added the print restriction, I had the same problem you reported.

Adobe pushed a security update to my computer and the update failed. Now the "print to PDF" option is missing from all of my programs. How do I get it back?
Version X.1.12.Thanks. That's exactly what I did, but from the Adobe help screen. It did the trick, but I'm not very happy with Adobe for messing up my system.
I appreciate your answering back. -
How do I open pdfs in iBook and not Adobe reader? (OS X Mavericks)
On iOS devices, I can save and read pdfs in iBooks. How do I do it in the new application for OS X Mavericks?
Hello there, FootballTechGeek.
The following Knowledge Base article shows how this can be done:
OS X Mountain Lion: Choose an app to open a document
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11329
Particularly:
Permanently change the document’s app
Select the document and choose File > Get Info.
In the Info window, click the triangle next to “Open with” to expand the section.
Choose an app from the pop-up menu, or choose Other to locate a different app.
If you want to use that app to open all documents of the same type as the current document and created by the same app, click Change All.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro. -
How to attach a PDF from Ibooks to a current email - help !
Hello,
I am using an Ipad mini and can't figure something out.
I have a long email and would like to attach a PDF file to my latest response. The PDF is currently in my IBooks.
I know I can send the PDF in a new/clean email, but the point is that I would like to be able to attach it to the current email. I can insert a photo or a video but there doesnt seem to be a way to insert a PDF file.
I tried to open the PDF up in a new mail, cut it, then paste it into the existing email, but even that doesn't seem to work - I checked my sent box and there was no attachment on the mail when I tried it that way. The only way around the problem I can think of is to create the new email with the attachment, save it as a draft, go back into the original mail, copy it, go back into drafts and paste the existing text around my attachment - but this is a ridiculous and time-consuming process and not really practical.
Can anyone kindly advise? I think there will be an easy solution, but I just dont see it yet -
Thanks, MThere is no way to do what you are trying to do. You have to send the email and the pdf from iBooks.
Open the PDF in iBooks then tap the arrow icon in the upper left corner and select Email. Copy and paste the entire lengthy email into this new email in iBooks and send it that way, its clunky, but it is really the only way to accomplish what you want to accomplish using an iPad and the mail app. You can cancel the email in the iBooks app and it will allow you to save the draft and you can go back to using the mail app to send it, or just send the email from iBooks.
The mail app will only allow you to insert photos and videos as attachments. -
How do you email 1 page from a pdf in iBooks?
I have multi-page plans in iBooks and want to send only 1 page to a subcontractor and not the entire set of plans. How do you only e-mail one page of a multi-page PDF in iBooks?
Thanks,
VictorYou could try copy/paste.
But you would probably have more luck switching to an app really designed for working with pdf files rather than ebooks, like GoodReader. -
Why can't I add a playlist of PDFs to iBooks?
I have added a few hundred PDFs to my iTunes library. I was then able to add these PDFs to a playlist with some videos and music. I can simply select the playlist under videos and music and easily add all the audio and movie files but when it comes to adding the PDFs I still have to do this manually one by one to iBooks. There is a similar question to this one asked in an existing thread but I have a bigger question in mind. Why would iTunes let me add the PDFs to a playlist if I can't even add a playlist to iBooks? Is there some other point to organizing a bunch of PDFs on iTunes? iTunes doesn't even display PDFs. How can I add PDFs to iTunes in a quicker manner? Is this an option that Apple will be integrating in the near future?
Yes, I have used Goodreader, but I would like an easier, quicker, integrated syncing option and one that doesn't make me manually manage the PDFs. I also make recomendations to customers about how they should manage their PDF documents and want to use iBooks so that I'm not telling them they are forced to spend more $$ in order to have this feature. No other solution at this time. Are you using iPad or iPhone?
iPad - I can understand why you ask. It's too bad you can't sync PDF playlist. Right now the only way is to use Sugarsync. From there you can "Open PDF in iBooks". Or you can use Goodreader.
iPhone - Why would you want to use iTunes and iBooks? Although iBooks is well designed and handles PDF very well even on iPhone, it doesn't have text-reflow feature which makes PDF reading useless on iPhone unless you want to loose your eye sight soon. So the only way is to sync a folder using Sugarsync. You can access Sugarsync from Goodreader. -
Ever since downloading and using Dropbox app on iPad and iPhone 4S, I can no longer open a pdf file from safari or email attachment and read a PDF in iBooks. My only options to open in are Dropbox and Go Daddy apps. I can't figure out how to return iBooks as one of the <open> options.
I actually did change my settings so that iBooks is the default application for opening PDFs and it was visible in iBooks, but still opened in Adobe Reader. This was the main change to the system update I was really looking foward to, so I'm quite disappointed.

Page turn effect doesn't work for PDFs in iBooks
Hi All,
Page turn in iBooks doesn't seem to be working for PDF files. Whenever I open the PDF file on Macbook, iBooks opens the file in Acrobat reader.
I was just wondering if this is the default behaviour or something can be changed to get the page turn effect for PDFs in iBooks.
Configuration:
Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.2
I would appreciate any help on this. That is normal. My PDFs open in Preview as that is what I use as the default application for reading PDFs.

When saving from the print menu to PDF to iBooks, it saves it as unnamed document.
When saving from the print menu to PDF to iBooks, it saves it as unnamed document.
Would like to be able to give it a name before saving it, or at least have a rename function in iBooks.
Can use Preview and rename it in Downloads and then move it to iBooks. Very cumbersome.
