PDF in iBooks, search question

Hi there, I have a client who uses iBooks to view 2 pdfs on her iPad. The pdfs were created in InDesign, 2 different designers (not me). The issue she encountered is with search results in iBooks.
In the first book, when I search for a particular number, the search results show 1) page number results and 2) text results containing the number. Shown below.
In the second book, when I search for a particular number, the search results 1) page number results and 2) text results containing the number PLUS a word next to it ("audrey-small"). Shown below.
Has anyone else experienced this with reading pdfs in iBooks? Is there any way the word "audrey-small" can be taken out so that search results for numbers only show the number? I'm posing this as an InDesign question because the 2 files were built by 2 separate designers and they may have different creation/design processes.
I don't know if iBooks is the best application for reading pdfs on the iPad, but that's what my client uses. Both books were created in Adobe InDesign. I'm posting this also to the Adobe Forums, but any insight here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In the first case, that might be the expected behavior. It seems in iBooks, pdfs don't have the option to go to a certain page # only as you have it with Adobe Reader. It just puts the number in the general search and brings all results containing that number. Regarding the second case, I have no idea why is showing audrey-small.

I realized I didn't ask my question properly. Here it is:
Is there any way (either in iBooks or InDesign or Acrobat) I can tweak data so that search results for numbers come up ONLY with numbers (such as "72" in the 2nd example) instead of numbers and words (such as "72" and "audrey-small" in the 2nd example).
    Thank you!

  • IBook converting periods on PDF formatted pages into question marks

Can someone tell me why iBook is converting periods on PDF formatted pages into question marks in the search function?

In case in matters, Apple doesn't accept pdf's for the ibookstore.
You might try different apps for producing the pdf and see if there is any difference.
But only Apple can change how iBooks behaves.  You can tell them about the problem at

  • Search Function isn't Working on Specific PDFs in iBooks?

Recently, I have been having problems with the search function in iBooks.  I have opened 2 large PDFs in iBooks, the primary reason being to use the search function, and 1 of the 2 PDFs is not coming up with any results for searches. File 'A' ha no problems at all with searching, but file 'B' just comes up with the message "Search Completed  No matches found" Note that both PDFs came from the same (clean) website.
Everything is up-to-date on my device (iPhone 5s) iOS Version: 8.2, iBooks Version: 4.1.1. I don't know why the search on this particular PDF Isn't working, as all other PDFs I have in iBooks perform just fine with the search function.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

Either press the Snapping button on the upper right end of the timeline -
or go to the menu View > Snapping to toggle snapping on or off -
    or type the letter "n".

  • Why can't I add a playlist of PDFs to iBooks?

I have added a few hundred PDFs to my iTunes library. I was then able to add these PDFs to a playlist with some videos and music. I can simply select the playlist under videos and music and easily add all the audio and movie files but when it comes to adding the PDFs I still have to do this manually one by one to iBooks. There is a similar question to this one asked in an existing thread but I have a bigger question in mind. Why would iTunes let me add the PDFs to a playlist if I can't even add a playlist to iBooks? Is there some other point to organizing a bunch of PDFs on iTunes? iTunes doesn't even display PDFs. How can I add PDFs to iTunes in a quicker manner? Is this an option that Apple will be integrating in the near future?
Yes, I have used Goodreader, but I would like an easier, quicker, integrated syncing option and one that doesn't make me manually manage the PDFs. I also make recomendations to customers about how they should manage their PDF documents and want to use iBooks so that I'm not telling them they are forced to spend more $$ in order to have this feature.

No other solution at this time. Are you using iPad or iPhone?
iPad - I can understand why you ask. It's too bad you can't sync PDF playlist. Right now the only way is to use Sugarsync. From there you can "Open PDF in iBooks". Or you can use Goodreader.
iPhone - Why would you want to use iTunes and iBooks? Although iBooks is well designed and handles PDF very well even on iPhone, it doesn't have text-reflow feature which makes PDF reading useless on iPhone unless you want to loose your eye sight soon. So the only way is to sync a folder using Sugarsync.  You can access Sugarsync from Goodreader.

  • HT204365 My function to "Open in" iBooks through my email is not an option, trying to save PDF on iBooks?? Please help

My "open in" iBooks option while viewing a PDF file via email does not appear. I was trying to save PDF in iBooks as I was able to do this a few months ago but now I'm unable. Any suggestions.

Realizing this is an old post, I want to offer my knowledge for future inquiries. I read a lot of posts and found no advise to my specific question, "Why does attachment options like 'Open in iBooks' not show in mail while previewing?" I, actually, had to contact my IT department AND Apple to get this issue resolved.
This is specific, but not inclusive, to those whom access their work email (Which is normally secure. Such as Exchange servers or other VPN required sites) through their iDevice, Droid, Chrome App, etc. Exchange and other networks have implemented source coding programs targeted at keeping data secure. This can keep us from opening attachments in iBooks, Acrobat, Microsoft Office, etc. Your provider can encrypt this code into your device (s) when you request access to your section of the server (ie: your work email). You may not have been aware but a lot of apps do this.
You can, most times, circumvent this by forwarding your work email to your personal email. The only except to this (that I have found thus far), is that if the writer or publisher of the document has encrypted the actual document itself (Such as "Read Only" or "Uneditable").
This may seem like a hack or loop, but it isn't. Allowing you to email it to yourself still protects their interest (Copyright infringement lawsuits). And it can allow you to do your job (just remember that YOU, now, ARE LIABLE FOR YOUR COPY & more than likely, being monitered).

  • Increase font on pdf in Ibooks

In the first case, that might be the expected behavior. It seems in iBooks, pdfs don't have the option to go to a certain page # only as you have it with Adobe Reader. • HT204365 I opened a PDF in iBooks, but I don't know how to close it. Every time I open iBooks the PDF opens with no option to close. Any suggestions on how to get back to book shelf?

I opened a PDF in iBooks, but now I can not close it. Every time I open iBooks, the PDF is opened and I can't close it. Any suggestions on how to close it and get back to the book shelf?

Do you have an icon at the top of the page that says 'Library'? Tap that to get back. If not, just tap on the page that shows up and this should bring up the icons at the top for Library, another for the contents of the book, and the text size, search, and bookmark.

  • How can I open a PDF in iBooks on iPhone 5s?

I have PDFs in iBooks. When I try to open them it says I should open them with Adobe Reader. I downloaded Adobe Reader but can't seem to get the PDFs to open with it.
I found a previous thread saying that you can't use Adobe Reader with iBooks, but that was before the 5s came out, so I'm starting a new thread. If you can't open a PDF from iBooks with Adobe Reader, why is it telling me to use Adobe Reader? And how else can I open it?
This shows what happens when I try to read my PDF, and click on the icon that's supposed to let me open it in Adober Reader:

This particular file is a PDF Portfolio, which needs Flash to display correctly. When you open a PDF Portfolio in the Adobe Reader mobile it will open in list view to get around the fact that Flash isn't supported on iOS. So, it won't open properly in a native viewer on iOS only within the Adobe Reader.

  • Password protected PDF in iBooks not displaying

I loaded a password protected PDF into my iTunes library and then synced it with iPad (4th gen iOS 6.1.3). I see the PDF in iBooks on the iPad and when I click on it, it prompts for the password. I input the password and PDF "opens" but it's just the blank grey screen showing page 1/1 (it's supposed to be a 79 page document). Any ideas? I took the password off the document and loaded that one into iTunes then my iPad and it displays just fine. I did this same sequence with a different document and with the password it didn't display and without the password it did display.
If there is an issue with iBooks, any way to sideload this into Adobe Reader, or somehow "Open in" Adobe Reader from iBooks?
    Thanks
    Dan

It looks like this issue may be limited to files that have been set to restrict the user's ability to print or edit the document (even after a password has been entered for viewing).  I found that a password-protected PDF could be viewed in iBooks, but after I added the print restriction, I had the same problem you reported.

  • How do I open pdfs in iBook and not Adobe reader? (OS X Mavericks)

On iOS devices, I can save and read pdfs in iBooks. How do I do it in the new application for OS X Mavericks?

    Hello there, FootballTechGeek.
The following Knowledge Base article shows how this can be done:
OS X Mountain Lion: Choose an app to open a document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11329
    Particularly:
    Permanently change the document’s app
Select the document and choose File > Get Info.
In the Info window, click the triangle next to “Open with” to expand the section.
Choose an app from the pop-up menu, or choose Other to locate a different app.
If you want to use that app to open all documents of the same type as the current document and created by the same app, click Change All.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • How to attach a PDF from Ibooks to a current email - help  !

    Hello,
I am using an Ipad mini and can't figure something out.
I have a long email and would like to attach a PDF file to my latest response. The PDF is currently in my IBooks.
I know I can send the PDF in a new/clean email, but the point is that I would like to be able to attach it to the current email. I can insert a photo or a video but there doesnt seem to be a way to insert a PDF file.
I tried to open the PDF up in a new mail, cut it, then paste it into the existing email, but even that doesn't seem to work - I checked my sent box and there was no attachment on the mail when I tried it that way. The only way around the problem I can think of is to create the new email with the attachment, save it as a draft, go back into the original mail, copy it, go back into drafts and paste the existing text around my attachment - but this is a ridiculous and time-consuming process and not really practical.
Can anyone kindly advise? I think there will be an easy solution, but I just dont see it yet -
    Thanks, M

There is no way to do what you are trying to do. You have to send the email and the pdf from iBooks.
Open the PDF in iBooks then tap the arrow icon in the upper left corner and select Email. Copy and paste the entire lengthy email into this new email in iBooks and send it that way, its clunky, but it is really the only way to accomplish what you want to accomplish using an iPad and the mail app. You can cancel the email in the iBooks app and it will allow you to save the draft and you can go back to using the mail app to send it, or just send the email from iBooks.
The mail app will only allow you to insert photos and videos as attachments.

  • How do you email 1 page from a pdf in iBooks?

I have multi-page plans in iBooks and want to send only 1 page to a subcontractor and not the entire set of plans.  How do you only e-mail one page of a multi-page PDF in iBooks?
    Thanks,
    Victor

    You could try copy/paste.
But you would probably have more luck switching to an app really designed for working with pdf files rather than ebooks, like GoodReader.

  • Opening PDF in iBooks

Ever since downloading and using Dropbox app on iPad and iPhone 4S, I can no longer open a pdf file from safari or email attachment  and read a PDF in iBooks. My only options to open in are Dropbox and Go Daddy apps. I can't figure out how to return iBooks as one of the <open> options.

I actually did change my settings so that iBooks is the default application for opening PDFs and it was visible in iBooks, but still opened in Adobe Reader. This was the main change to the system  update I was really looking foward to, so I'm quite disappointed.
