  • Adobe PDF printer Resolution

    Hi:
I am going to be deploying Adobe Acrobat 9 to my organization.  Due to our print requirements, I need to set the PDF Printer Resolution to 600 DPI, it's default value is 1200 dpi.
I need to know which registry key needs to be changed.
I can only find one under AVGeneral called iprintDPI but changing this does nothing to the PDF printer resolution.  I have changed the resolution in the driver manually to 600 dpi and this key is not updated.
If this can not be done in the registry, is there another way around it?
    Thank you,

Just to close off on this thread, I found the setting in the registry.
    HKey_Current_user\Printers\DevModePerUser
change the hex value for Adobe PDF setting
    and
    HKey_Current_user\Printers\DevModes2
change the hex value for Adobe PDF setting
Hope this helps others with the same issue...

  • Controlling PDF Output Resolution when converting AutoCAD to PDF

I have a standalone java application that converts AutoCAD formats to PDF using the VectorConvertOptions AutoVue API settings. The transformations work fine but on some documents the PDF output quality is bad. Any tips or code snippets as to how to manipulate the transformation in order to create higher resolution PDF's? Im thinking I have do something with the pen settings?
    Thanks in advance!

DPI is controlled by the AutoVue Document Converter driver
It can not be modified through the convert options
Your drawing is probably small enough so that it does not fit the default settings, but printing uses a 150 DPI by default and convert defaults to 300 or 600 depending on the version you have
So getting a better picture when you print than convert is something you would not expect, unless DPI for convert has already been modified.
Even through PDF is a vector format, it uses integer number for the coordinates (in points)
so you are bound to run into this issues the smaller the drawing you are trying to convert
That is even more problematic if you have fixed width line styles (like acad has)
Which version of AutoVue are you using?

  • PDF "line weight" issues

When exporting my document (full of graphs and charts) from Microsoft Word 2010 into Acrobat Pro as a PDF, I am having "line weight" issues upon zooming in and out of the document.  Depending on whether I zoom in or out and to what extent, lines disappear, become thicker or thinner or criss-cross eachother; There seems to be no "line weight" problems when printing though.  Does anyone have an answer?

Try changing the Rendering options on Preferences > Page Display. For example, make sure Smooth line art and Enhance thin lines are checked.
There will be variation in previewing line weight because of the lower resolution of a screen. On the printer, which has higher resolution, you're seeing a more accurate preview of the objects.

  • Converting Microsoft Word 2007 documents to PDF - Lines round all jpegs?

    Hi,
I have recently had a new suite of headed notepaper designed and set up in Microsoft Word and it was all going swimingly until we tried converting the completed docments on our computers into a PDF format for sending out on e-mails etc., the pc's are running Microsoft Office 2007.  Although it works, each of the jpegs contained in the header and footer have thin ghost black lines round them local to the image.
We are running Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) on the pc's and mac.
This does not happen in Word 2003 or 2010 or on an apple mac?
Why does it happen with Office 2007?
Another point is that the word template letter document is circa 3Mb.  When I convert it on the 2007 pc it provides a sensibly sized 160kb PDF but when I do the same on the Mac it is still 3Mb.  Obviously in the short term I am having to use the mac and accept larger file size to achieve a clean page but I need to get this all sorted out.
    Can anyone help out there?
    Many thanks.

***** Actually, girls and guys I think I have found the problem!!!!!
It's not just pictures that can cause the "Cannot Save File" message it's also fonts.
We were using Myriad Pro in all our Case Studies and up until a certain date 2 months ago it was great all could be printed and there were no problems. Then for some reason - and I have since discovered the font Myriad Pro has a licensing issue on our PC's - all our Case Study templates were unable to be converted and we were having issues all over the place.
I went through the advice contained in these posts (and also onb the Adobe website) and removed images one by one to see what was actually causing the problem. Nothing, no result the issues still existed. Then I hit upon the idea of changing the font to Arial and BINGO!!! it worked!!!! So, my advice is to ensure that your images are free from errors (whatever that means!) and you're using fonts that have no licensing issues and Publisher will be able to convert them no problems.
Now, as for the advice Microsoft gave us...well I am as frustrated as everyone else is that we had to find the answers ourselves and MS couldn't have developed a tool that would pick up these issues for us in the document itself. C'mon Microsoft you make this great product - make it even better and give us better diagnostic tools please.
Oh and by the way, when I did the same document in InDesign (which was a pain in the a...) it handled the font issue no problems - explain that one Microsoft.

  • Problems converting Powerpoint/Excel to PDF, line thickness issue

    Hi,
I have been having problems with how lines in excel come out when printing using Adobe PDF or PDF Creator.  In both cases the thickness of lines, while consistent in excel, comes out completely random in PDF.  My PDFs go to clients and appearances are very important.  The most common way for me to prepare reports is to to paste Excel spreadsheets into PowerPoint as links, adjust the size of the spreadsheet to fit the slide and print, and PDF Powerpoint document.  I am using Office 2010, and Adobe Acrobat X.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kiki

There are two options that can think of. 1. use wider lines. 2. change the print quality to 300 or at least 600, rather then the default 1200. The problem often stems from a line being denoted in pixel width rather than point width. At 1200 dpi, the pixel width is small. That causes a problem when displayed on a screen (a print out might be fine) at 96 dpi. If you can change to point width, it will be better.
At least this gives you something to look at. It is not a new problem as already mentioned and I never pursued it well enough (partly because I am not really a WORD or Excel user).

  • PL/PDF Line Spacing

I'm evaluating the PL/PDF tool. It seems good except I can't figure out the line spacing.
All the examples show wrapped lines of text being double spaced. I want single spaced lines.
    I'm using the plpdf.PrintMultiLineCell procedure.
There must be some setting that I'm missing. Any ideas?

PL/PDF is not an Oracle product. It's a product from a different company. They don't have their own forum, just paid support, as far as I know.

  • PDF Image Resolution

    khuon mau
I'm having a difficult time meeting a printers requirements and I thought I'd ask if there was any way to tell what the image resolution is on a PDF file.
The images are 300+ when I create the pdf (from Adobe Illustrator CS3), based on their creation instructions, but when I submit they say the images are not high enough quality.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Micah

With the preflight tool in Acrobat you can check the resolution of the images in the PDF document.

  • .pdf line weights

    hello all--
this has been bugging me for a while:   vector line weights not scaling properly in .pdf's (when viewed on screen in reader, preview, etc).  My workflow is usually from illustrator to indesign for layout, then export to .pdf--and the final linework always appears too heavy on screen (until zooming way into the document).  To illustrate, the attached image shows linework originated in illustrator, placed in indesign on the left and the same indesign file exported to .pdf on the right-- scaled aproximately the same on screen.   Any ideas much appreciated.  LML

Most likely, this has to do with how Acrobat displays thin lines. It may be instructive to turn off line art smoothing in Acrobat's preferences. If your (e.g.) 1 pt lines are making it into the PDF as 1 pt lines, then there's nothing wrong with Indesign. You can verify this by opening the PDF in Illustrator and checking stroke.
Your monitor is probably 96 pixels per inch. There are 72 pts in an inch, so a half point rule viewed at whatever zoom renders 100% must be made up of 1/144th of 96 pixels or about 2/3 of one pixel. Since your monitor can only display whole pixels it rounds up. Most people want smoothing on, so they don't see blocky curves. Smoothing usually means that the edge pixels get blurred, but the edge of a 1 pixel line *is* that one pixel, so more pixels must be added. So far, we're only talking about B&W. But your monitor is color, and both Acrobat and Indesign make use of color to help out with smoothing (obviously in different ways).
In the end, if it prints correctly, then you're okay. If you're designing for display only, use thicker rules.

  • PDF line weight - please help!

    Hi,
When I save from InDesign as a PDF any line drawn with the pen tool/circle tool etc stay the same line weight no matter how much I'm zoomed in on the document. For example, I could zoom right out to 25% and the line thickness will still look at the same as at 150%. Is there a setting to change this?
Hope someone can help by the end of today.
    Many thanks!
    Will

Will sent me a PM because he's having trouble replying in the forum:
Hi, thanks.... but that is a setting in Acrobat.
The designer that I work with says that her InDesign doesn't have this line weight problem (or she has never seen this problem before), so is there a setting that I can change in inDesign?
(I tried to reply on the forum but I keep getting an error... 'You can't post a blank message')
This is not a problem in InDesign, it's a problem in the display in Acrobat (and you are the second person today to post about it). Acrobat is the place you need to be to fix it when viewing the PDF.
As far as your posting problem, are you using the web page editor, or email? Some email clients have issues. If the web page, you need a little patience sometimes for the editor screen to fully load, and then you may need to click inside the editing area to get an active cursor. Hitting Enter with a blank message area would generate that error.

  • Transfering Drawings From FreeHand to pdf- Lines are Blurry

I am working on a catalog. I've drawn up everything in freehand but when I pull them into my pdf they looked blurry. The drawings look fine in freehand, however. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

You could check your Acrobat Preferences > Smoothing. If the lines are still vectors you may want to uncheck smoothing for line art.
That said, I'm sure you're also concerned about how your clients view the catalog. You might want to use heavier lines, or an other method of section division such as color blocks, that will view nicely on other computers.

  • [ASAP] Need Help Exporting to PDF - Line weight problems (Illustrator file)

So, I've drawn some stuff in Illustrator which I've then placed in InDesign.
It all looks right on screen, but when I export the document to pdf (Adobe PDF Presets: High Quality Print) the Illustrator stuff appears to lose the line weight settings. This is easily noticeable on some really thin lines that print much thicker than they were supposed to.
I gotta be missing something when exporting to pdf... 'cause if I export to Jpeg everything comes out right. No more line weight problems! The question is: what the hell am I doing wrong???
    Please, somebody help me out.
    Thx!

    1. How are you printing?
I'm using one of the Adobe PDF Export Presets: High Quality Print.
    2. What are you using to determine the line weight?
What do you mean? I talking about the stroke size.
    3. Have you tried opening the PDF in Illustrator to see what the reported line weight is?
I've tried it now and it looks just fine! Just like it was supposed to! All the line weights are correct.
    4. This might just be a limitation of your printer or printer driver.
I don't think so. I have never had this problem up until now!
I'm starting to think it has something to do with some Acrobat preferences settings...

  • Open or Save to harddiskoption pop up window needed when clicked on pdf lin

Subject : Open or Save to harddisk option pop up window needed when clicked on pdf link
I have a web application. There will be some pdf links in the application. When clicked on these links I read the content from database and output as bytestream. But when end user clicks these files the pdf will open in the browser or in Adobe based on his Adobe setting
Note : Experimentation done on Adobe Acrobat reader 5
Setting 1> Edit - Preferences - Options - Check on the 'Display PDF in browser' option
pdf opens up in the browser itself without asking any option
Setting 1> Edit - Preferences - Options - Check off the 'Display PDF in browser' option
on click it opens a windows pop up window asking me either to 'Open' or 'Save' . If I say Open it opens in Adobe.
Can this setting be controlled by my application itself [from Java servlets]? I want the opp up to be asked for every end user who clicks on the pdfs irrespective of what settings he has in Adobe Acrobat

I am not sure whether this will work. But it's possible to download the pdf file. Try the following
    response.setContentType("application/download");
    String filename = <<filename>>
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=\"" + filename + "\"");
Read the file into a bufferedOutputStream and then
    int bytesA = bis.available();
    response.setContentLength(bytesA);
    write the content to ServletOutputStream..

  • Converting PDF Line Drawings back into CAD Formats?

    Hi there
First of let me say Hi! I'm Ryan Holden, a design engineer working for General Motors Europe in the UK. Sorry to register and come straight at you with a question but I'm at a bit of a loss and I've always found forums the best way to get advice.
I have an issue at work. I have been sent some drawings by a supplier that I need to make changes to. The drawings have been saved in a PDF format but were generated using the CAD software CATIA V5 R18 (if anyone is familiar with that?).
Is there a way that I can return/reconvert this PDF file back into the .CATDrawing format that the software package generated, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Hope you can help, thanks a lot for your time!

    Hi there
Thanks very much for your help. I must admit I was not optimistic that it was a faesible task and this has pretty much confirmed it. I don't have access to the original CAD file anyway so it makes it a moot point.
    I appreciate you're time!
    Thanks again
