PDF link, do I use Mobile Me address?

To link a file that opens in it's own window, such as a PDF, I've been using the web.mac address (http://web.mac.com/username/files/nameofthefile.pdf). Do I still use that same address or a new Mobile Me address?

You can use the web.mac.com.... URL or change it to web.me.com.... Either will work.

  • PDF links do not open properly

I run safari 1.3.2 on OS 10.3.9. Initially a pdf link in safari would open properly by using the adobe plugin or whatever. Now a pdf link opens up using the Quicktime plugin. How can I manage plugins and get pdfs to open properly in safari?

    Hello Paul:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I am away from my Macs at the momment, but let me try
    to help.
Highlight a PDF file (do not open it). Now I am
fuzzy...go to the menu bar and find a parameter that
says "open with" You will see a drop down menu with
all the available options. Select PDF and then click
on open with this for all flike files (or something
    similar).
My apologies for being vague - if I was at my Apple,
I would walk myself through it first.

Barry, that sounds like your talking about choosing a opening application in the finder, thats not my problem, I want safari to use the correct plugin for pdf file links, how do i do that?

  • Bug:Unable to open a pdf link using Acrobat Reader 9.3.4

When I open pdf links in IE I get the error message
"Your current security setting does not allow this file to be downloaded."
I have added the site to trusted sites without luck.
I also followed the link http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328233.html
I have been able to access these links with 8.x versions. of Adobe Reader.
For example when I try to get the IRS 1040 form
    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf?portlet=3
I get the error message mentioned above.
Now more  This is running on a Windows 2003 32 bit server.  I use Citrix XenApp to publish IE.  I have used 7 users to test. Two have an issue.  Four and the admin do not.  There is nothing in the Event log regarding this issue.  I am not sure how to enable debugging within the reader.
I would appreciate any assistance to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thank you.

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.

  • How do I use mobile link to view documents on more than one device?

I have documents on my iPhone and want to send them to my iPad using Mobile Link. How do I do this?

    Hi bephys,
For this you can simply upload the doc to files.acrobat.com and send the link to the recipient via Adobe Send.
Anyone having the link would be able to access the doc.
Alternatives would be Google Drive or One Drive.

  • Links in PDFs don't work on mobile device

A text linked to a page in the same document works fine when clicked on in the PC. But when tapped on in an Android device, the link does not work. Any ideas why this is so, and a workaround?
    Thanks!

If you use the MS add on for saving to PDF you might get the links. I use a PC, but as I understand it the PDF Maker that adds the links does not work on the MAC and never has. One MAC user (Phillip Jones) typically drops by and provides some insight into methods for getting the links, but I don't remember the solution (probably because I did not totally understand the solution as a PC user).

    Hi Jo,
If I'm interpreting this correctly, the Word file downloads correctly, but when you open it in Pages, the link(s) which your instructor has embedded in the Word file are not correctly translated into Pages.
If the link shows the actual address, you should be able to copy that and paste it into the location bar in Safari, press return, and get to the website that way.
An alternate route might be to download one of the open source Office applications, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice. These are written to more closely emulate the behaviours of MS Word than Pages, and may provide better support for links embedded in Word files.

Try to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox and use the external Adobe Reader program or Preview instead.

Can I use iSync between Address B and my mobile without .Mac?

Yes, if you have an iSync supported phone.
    For 10.4+ see here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
plus all the models supported by Phone Plugins from here and here.
However, for your 10.3.9 Mac, your choices are severely limited:

Without the Apple ID you can't get a password reset email. The link I gave above can help you recover the Apple ID as well, though, via your security questions. If you don't know those either, then you may be out of luck, though you can try calling Apple Support and asking to speak with Account Security and see if they can help, though you're going to have to prove that you actually own that Apple ID and aren't just trying to get illegal access to someone else's account.

Sounds like a desktop configuration issue you should investigate if you can have more than one contact listing for each user logon and whether you can make one of them the default.

Why can I not use mobile link in reader on window Vista?

    Hi sze wing,
Please tell us a bit more--what do you mean by "cannot use"? Do you get an error message? Or are files not syncing as you expect?
Have you double-checked to make sure that Mobile Link is on? Please see Acrobat Help | Mobile Link: open once, read anywhere for instructions on enabling Mobile Link, if it isn't already enabled.
If it is enabled, and things still aren't working as expected, please let us know what issue you're facing, including any error messages.

  • PDF links (7.11.2.2) and behavior on the web

    Hello all,
I'm trying to generate a PDF file (from scratch, using a C++ library - but that's not relevant to my question) that uses links to specify the location of linked files relative to the root of a drive - NOT relative to the PDF file itself (i.e.  I don't want to use ../../).
As best I can tell from the PDF specification (PDF32000_2008.pdf, section 7.11.2.2 and 7.11.2.3) - creating such links should be as simple as using a double forward slash to specify 'no drive'.
e.g.   To link to the file in c:\images\test.jpg from a PDF file you know is also on the c: drive - the links written form is: //images/test.jpg (as per table 43)
This works fine when I access it from my desktop - when both the PDF and JPG are on my c: drive - however if I copy the PDF to my test web server, and put the test.jpg file in a folder called images on the root of my web server - the link fails when executed in the PDF opened on the server (in the Reader loaded inside the browser).
I can see what's happening - and want to know if there is something I can do (or should be doing) to fix it.
What happens is that the 'no drive' path is actually removing too much from the path.
Instead of trying to open http://127.0.0.1/images/test.jpg, the actual link that appears in the browser address bar is http://images/test.jpg.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks
    Adam
(I've attached a example.pdf file that contains a link to \images\test.jpg - which works on the desktop, but not in the browser)

    Hi Leonard,
First off, thanks a lot for escalating this to the engineering team.  I didn't expect that from a free open forum.  - I'm impressed.
Of course, the engineer is right - I didn't mention it because I was secretly hoping that there would be a solution that worked for both - given the portable nature of a PDF.  (I'm still befuddled as to why a root relative file path is processed the way that it is in the context of a web browser - I expected it to be relative to the root of the site)
I guess, assuming it's possible to detect whether the PDF was opened in a standalone reader vs a browser using Acrobat JavaScript - I could generate link hotspots for both scenarios at publish time - defaulting one set to hidden (or back) - and then switch them when the PDF is loaded using script again. I'm not sure whether any of that will trip a security warning in the default configuration - but don't think so as we already use JavaScript to do multi-link menus.
If nothing else, at least I know it isn't going to work the way it is (so won't keep trying to jiggle things) - and have some ideas on workarounds.
    Thanks for all your help,
    Adam
