PDF link issue in Dreamweaver

Clicking on PDF links in Dreamweaver brings up an Adobe PDF error that says: "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1:1)". We tried reinstalling to the latest version of Acrobat X but the error continues.
We thought this was an Acrobat error, however PDFs function normally so long as they are not called out from Dreamweaver. We have tried reinstalling Dreamweaver with no luck as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Machine is Windows 7 with Dreamweaver CS5 v6 and Acrobat X.

OK, why do you want to preview/open a PDF from within Dreamweaver?
Added new content which includes the pdf link to my web page and need to ensure the link works before going live with the web page.
You should be able to do so while in Live View, but I would not expect this to work in just Design View in any version of Dreamweaver.
Before received Dreamweaver upgrade, I previewed the web page in the web browser and clicked the links on page to verify if worked and no problem. I should be able to continue to do so now.
If you are just trying to test out what the experience would be like for the visitors to your website, then you should be doing so in a web browser. e.g. use Preview In Browser from Dreamweaver, then click the link for the PDF from within your browser.
I agree, as previously stated, this is what I'm doing and it's not working......the pdf file does not open.

    Hi,
I upload my site via Filezilla and something is wrong with some of the pdf link i get this error when testing and wanting to download them
    Not Found
The requested URL /assets/name-of-my-pdf.pdf was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
My hierarchy in Filezilla goes like this :
    what's wrong?
    thx

Did you remember to upload the PDF file while still in Muse (so it shows in assets list) so it was uploaded with everything else, although this should be automatic (unless your link is in an HTML object)? Have you confirmed that the assets folder contains the file - and that it has exactly the same filename and filetype as the link says (some others have seen the filetype being taken off in some cases)? • CSS stylesheet link issue in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello,
In order to make sure that mywebsite always delivers the latest .css changes without users having to refresh their browsers, I did the trick:
    link href="css/style.css?version=1" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
This works great, but the trick doesn't work so well when previewing a file in Dreamweaver. It doesn't link to the CSS file because of the "?version=1" part.
Do you folks know what I can do to fix this? Will I need ot have two versions of the files, one for working in and one for uploadng?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I don't want my users to have to hit refresh to see my CSS changes.
    They won't.
The chapter on Design Time Stylesheets doesn'rt really help me.
    Sure it does.
the issue is that dreamweaver isn't linking to the style sheet because of the "version" part of the link.
Remove the version part.  SaveAs DesignTime.css.

  • PDF Link Not Working - Can't Isolate the Issue

I have a unique issue I can't figure out. The trouble
shooting I have done so far is this: (1) I've recreated my Topic
several times using old topics that work, ones in version control,
ones not in version control, blank ones, and even from scratch as a
New Project. (2) I've recreated my Word Doc and PDF. (3) I've
uninstalled Robo Help 5 and reinstalled it. (4) I've uninstalled
then reinstalled Adobe. (5) I've uninstalled then reinstalled MS
Office. After reinstalling all of the above, I created the Topic
    yet another time.
I took an existing Project which was initially created in v4
with a PDF Link created in Word then converted to a PDF in Word.
This topic was not in version control and I copied it onto my Local
Drive. From my Local Drive, I modified the Topic to include all of
my new information. I left the original PDF Link, however, to test
    it. Here are the results:
    A) The original PDF Link still operates just fine. It
launches the PDF with no problem.
    B) The new PDF Links I am trying to create refuse to work no
matter what I do. WHY? When I click on the PDF Link in my compiled
CHM, I get an Internet Explorer Window with an error that the "Page
cannot be displayed". I have tried this on a network drive and on a
    local drive.
Are there any ideas or suggestions? Linking a PDF does not
require rocket science. I have done dozens of them over the past
couple years and never had this issue. All of my other hyperlinks
are working just fine (ie to external CHMs) - just not to PDF or
    DOC files.
1 thing I did notice which is why I uninstalled then
reinstalled everything: I found the new option inside Word of
ROBOPDF, and that is what I initially used. When I noticed a
coworker did things differently, I decided to delete that,
reinstall it all, then created the PDF the old way through the PDF
Maker toolbar in Word. I got the same results.
Please, please email me if possible:

  • External PDF links in Internet Explorer - PDF/A issue?

    Hi,
I am having an issue with certain links within PDFs not working when the PDF is being viewed with IE.  I have created external PDF links using the Go to a Page View linking feature within Acrobat and then opening an external PDF file and setting the link.  The extrernal links work fine when viewing the PDFs within Acrobat, however when I view the PDFs within IE the external links do not work.  I am running Acrobat 9.3 and IE 8.
I know there is an issue with PDF/A disabling external PDF links, is it possible that IE always displays PDFs in PDF/A mode, even though I have set PDF/A View Mode to never within Acrobat?  Also, I do not remember this being an issue in earlier releases of Acrobat 9, however I am supporting a large group of people that have already updated to Acrobat 9.3 and would hate to have to roll them back. Any ideas as to a possible solution would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Trouble with PDF links

A little background: I work for an agency and have a peripheral responsibility for updating our website, so I am learning everything on Dreamweaver from square 1 basically. So bear with me as I muddle through this. A couple years ago a former employee installed version CS3 on the PC I use, and is the version I am working with to this day.
I need to post a .pdf link of a meeting agenda to a page on the site and have it show up when it's clicked. Links to previous meeting agendas on the page work fine, but the most recent one I added 404's, even though I follow the exact code as previous .pdf links.
My suspicion is that I trouble lies in the fact I have an old and unsupported version of the software, or some sort of conflict between HTML/HTML 5 (if something like that exists), or a combination of the two.
    Thoughts and suggestions? Thank you.

I think it's very unlikely that either of these would be involved. No doubt the issue is either with your code for the link, with your path to the linked file, or with remembering to upload the linked file. Can we see the code on the page (best way is to post a link to the live page)?

  • Bug:Unable to open a pdf link using Acrobat Reader 9.3.4

When I open pdf links in IE I get the error message
"Your current security setting does not allow this file to be downloaded."
I have added the site to trusted sites without luck.
I also followed the link http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328233.html
I have been able to access these links with 8.x versions. of Adobe Reader.
For example when I try to get the IRS 1040 form
    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf?portlet=3
I get the error message mentioned above.
Now more  This is running on a Windows 2003 32 bit server.  I use Citrix XenApp to publish IE.  I have used 7 users to test. Two have an issue.  Four and the admin do not.  There is nothing in the Event log regarding this issue.  I am not sure how to enable debugging within the reader.
I would appreciate any assistance to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thank you.

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.

  • Clicking PDF links within a PDF no longer working after upgrade.

After upgrading Adobe Reader to version 11.0.10, I can no longer click and open links to pdf documents that are within a pdf.  These files are password protected, but I don't even get the prompt to put in my password, I try to click a pdf link, and nothing.  There must have been some type of additional security/protection added in this version of Adobe Reader because I was able to open the same links in the earlier version of 11.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Thank you.
    Ellen

    Hi Prabhakar,
we have an open call on this issue. SAP replied on the 10th of March:
"As this DTN issue isn't reproducable on our SP15 system, please upgrade your KM version to PL1, as per NOTE 911395(same as our test system). If for some reason the issue still exists after this upgrade I will further this issue with our Dev colleagues."
I read the note mentioned (which contains a list of the changes in PL1) and it says nothing about this issue in particular, if I'm not mistaken. Our system is on SP15 (not SP15 PL1), so we'll have to upgrade to PL1 first before we can investigate this any further. I currently don't know when this update is scheduled by our systems engineering department.
Is your system on PL1 by any chance? If so, then the problem has not been fixed in PL1 - which would be interesting for us to know.
    Thanks,
    Jens

  • Pdf links will not open in new browser window

I have created a pdf document in Acrobat 9 Pro that is password protected. You must enter the password to open it. In this document there are perhaps 15 links to other pdf documents. I set up each of the links to open in a new window. The links work as expected in Acrobat, each opening in a new window, however, when I posted the documents to the web, the links open in the same window as the original document. This would not be a big issue if the original document were not password protected, but each time the user clicks on a link, it takes him out of the original document. To get back to the original document requires re-entering the password. This is a major irritation with so many links.
I know that you can set Acrobat to display the documents in its own window rather than in the browser, but my users don't know that. Control clicking on a pdf link does not open it in a new window as it would with an HTML link. Is there a simple fix to this problem that does not involve user intervention?

Well, I came up with a solution, thanks to Ted Padova who offers a simple JavaScript solution on his blog at http://www.acrobatusers.com/blogs/tedpadova/opening-pdfs-new-browser-windows.
The solution is clearly laid out even for beginners, if you know how to create a link or button.
It seems to me that a prime objective of Adobe in developing Acrobat would be to have it behave the same way in free-standing mode and as a plug-in. In this case it does not, and obviously, it has not for the last forty-eleven years that Acrobat has been on the market. Maybe some day they will get around to a fix for this obvious problem. In the meantime, read Ted's blog and be happy we have guys like him who can solve these problems.

  • Anyone know why pdf links won't open? also- malware has hijacked the downloadable file available when clicking on Adobe's file:

Changed OS to Mavericks & pdf links from websites won't open. I also had private browsing on  in safari.
I have acrobat 10.1.10.  I tried to update it when prompted  by auto-updates and it said it can't because  the product has been changed since installed. that can only be the switch to mavericks osx. But it might have prompted me to get version 11 though I only have version 10 & I did the version 10 update in mid-Sept.
Then, I tried going to adobe.com, searched "upda" and got a list of the cs items with icons, plus two text only links, one was acrobat for mac and the last one, "Update manager update (Mac OS)". It said it is to "resolve a common issue with Adobe Update manager on Mac OS". I cliucked that and got some bogus file. When I hit the button on adobe's site, it shows that the file name should be Adobeupdatemanager403.dmg or something very similar to that. Instead in the download list /box I got " installjdownloader.dmg"  I clicked it once & saw terms of service in which they will switch you to use only their search engine, serve ads, etc. So luckily I didn't install it.
Does adobe need to investigate this malware problem? Others might search the way I did.
Anyway, this all started because after installing mavericks, i can't open any pdfs from the web.
Can anyone help me? Thank you very much in advance.

  • Acrobat adding %20 to pdf links in iOS

    Hi
I have created a pdf with hyperlink URLs which works fine.
However when it is opened in iOS devices Acrobat adds a %20 to the end of the URL which returns a page not found error.
If I upload the source Word documents the links are fine.
iOS will open links in other pdfs ok, but Im not sure what program created them.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
    Thanks for any help,
    Harley

    Hi Guys.
    Thanks for your reply.
    This is what has happened.
I created a pdf in Windows 7/64 using Acrobat 9 from a word document as source.
I opened the pdf in Safari on an iOS device
When I click the links in Safari on iOS device, the link is appended with %20 at the end and returns an invalid URL. I agree with Bill it is adding a space as %20 is the ascii code for a space.
However, the space is not in the original link on the Word document or in the source text or in the hyperlink itself and the word document links work perfectly.
Other pdfs links seem to work ok in Safari, so Acrobat must be doing something to the link to make Safari add the space / %20.
Any suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Harley

  • Icons necessary for PDF links?

My boss asked me to alter all the pages on our website so
    that links to PDF
files would be identified with an icon after each link.
In the past I put "(PDF file)" after each link, and that text
    itself would
link to a descriptor page of what PDF files are. When there
    were many PDF
file links on a page, I would instead notify users at the
    beginning of the
page that most of the links that followed were for PDF files,
    so then I
wouldn't bother adding "(PDF file)" after those links.
My boss had wanted the icon method a while back, but when I
    mentioned to him
the possible clutter factor it would create on the page, he
    decided we
should instead use the "title" parameter for links. So that
    when you mouse
over a link to a PDF file it says " PDF File ". The spaces
    were
added to create margins in the mouseover. I wasn't
    comfortable with that
method for two reasons: possible misuse/abuse of an
    accessiblity feature,
and also the fact that I would have to remember to tag PDF
    links like that
from that point on (I have already missed a few, possibly on
    purpose because
I don't see the need for the mouseover anyway).
There are currently about 250 PDF links for 1403 documents in
    our site, and
while I could use find and replace, then I will still have to
    sync the
entire site and then tell DW to ignore all the dupe files
    that have been
gathering all these years. Not to mention I still haven't
    determined the
method I will use to include a space between the end of the
    link and the PDF
icon, but still prevent the icon from being "orphaned" to
    it's own line,
    which my boss doesn't want.
All of this work seems to go against the KISS principle that
    I have been
striving for (keep it simple stupid), and I wonder about how
    this custom
icon link stuff is going to turn on me in the future. I guess
    this is
probably more a rant than anything. Anyone else have
    experience with similar
issues? Feel free to comment or add your own client's
    anti-KISS requests
    here.

I sometimes use a PDF icon before the link and informations
    about the
    file size after it.
    >In the past I put "(PDF file)" after each link, and that
    text itself would
    >link to a descriptor page of what PDF files are.
Is OK, even if I would most likely not always link to the
    descriptor
    page. Just something like
    <a href="document.pdf">title</a> (PDF, 5KB)
    >When there were many PDF

    beginning of the
    >page that most of the links that followed were for PDF
    files, so then I
    >wouldn't bother adding "(PDF file)" after those links.
I would only do this if _all_ links on that page lead to
    PDFs, for
    example a list of documents.

It's rather a usability problem. Users should be able to see
    immediately
if a link points to an PDF without having to "touch" each
    link.

I apply my icons with CSS:
    .icon {padding-left: 21px; background: left no-repeat}
    .pdf {background-image: url(/images/icons/pdf.png)}
    And in the source code:
    <a class="icon pdf" href="document.pdf">title</a>

  • Internal pdf links not working in chrome and firefox

I have some PDF files that I am adding links to additional PDF files that are located in the same folder on our webserver using Acrobat Pro XI. The links work fine in IE and the other PDF files open up and display well in the IE browser, but the links don't even show up in Chrome and will not open in Firefox. Further, the links in Safari, deliver an error message pop up saying the file could not be opened. If you click OK, the file does open. Also, in Acrobat > Tools > Add or Edit Link, I can change the properties to "Open File" and pick the "Open in New Window" option, but when I save the changes and come back, the option has automatically changed back to "Execute a Menu Item" and of course, the file I'm linking to does not open in a new Window.  These files were originally created in Word by another person and the person who converted them to PDF added fillable form fields throughout the document prior to converting to PDF. The links I am adding are being added using Acrobat Pro XI in the PDF file. Should we insert the above-mentioned links in the Word docs prior to converting to PDF to ensure the links work in all browsers, or are these browser issues common to all internal PDF links?
    Please help!

  • Can't download, save, or print pdf links on some webpages.

On a couple, but not all, of my financial institutions webpages, I can't download the statements and save them as pdf.
When I click the pdf link, a page opens showing the statement, but to see it all, one has to scroll the screen.  When I try to print it, by clicking File on the toolbar, the pulldown menu gives me only the option of Print Largest Frame which prints only what is visible on the screen in the window.  When I try to save by going to File, then Save As, a window opens for print options giving me two format choices: Page Source (html) or Web Archive, but no pdf.  The statements never download, nor open as pdf.
What is odd, is that this issue is not common to all financial institutions.  On some, the statements read, load, save, and print as pdf just fine.
I have updated the Adobe Reader, and all software on my Mac.
