PDF Link properties \ Actions my URLs change

When I upload a pdf file, "that contains hyperlinks to network files", to our internal sharepoint server, the links change. They go from "\\server location" to "http://server name". Is there a setting I can check off to stop this from happening?

To be expected.
See 7.11 of ISO 32000-1 (ISO Standard for PDF Ref.).
Link syntax in network space (UNC) and in webspace (URI/URL) are not equivalent / the same.
(SharePoint is webspace.)
Be well...

  • Opening PDF links in IE8 - show URL

    Hi there
    In IE8 it seems pdf links automatically open up in Adobe Pro or Reader rather than in the browser. Previously it opened up in the browser and showed the URL. I've tried changing the setting in Adobe Pro and Reader - Preferences - Internet - Display PDF in browser, and still no change?
    OR do you know of a way to find the URL when it opens up in Adobe Pro or Reader? I need to use the URL which is why I need to open the pdf in a browser.
    I am not an advanced user - any help appreciated!
    thanks!

  • Preserving PDF links and actions created in Acrobat after editing in Illustrator

    I created an interactive PDF in Acrobat from an Illustrator file saved as a PDF.  It's basically an interactive prototype that simulates dropdown menus, highlighted selections and navigation between screens.  Using the Link Tool, I set layers to appear through the layer visibility action, and certain layers to toggle through javascript.  Since the prototype is evolving, however, I have to periodically make minor edits to it in Illustrator.  Once I make an edit and save the PDF again, when I open up the saved document in Acrobat, all the link tool actions are gone.  This is highly frustrating because most of the edits take just a minute or two in Illustrator, but I have to re-create all the links in Acrobat when I'm done, which takes a very long time.  How can I make minor edits in Illustrator while preserving the action elements I created in Acrobat?

    Well, that's a bummer.  It's so close to a feasible workflow for generating quick early-stage prototypes that you can continue to work on.
    Thanks for the info.

    Is this limitation by design? If we have a shared VHDX between two VMs, then I am not able to change the VM properties from SCVMM.

    Hello,
    that is a VMM issue.
    If you did not deploy your virtual cluster from a VMM service template, VMM doesn't recognize the configuration.
    Until MS got it fixed, you could use the workaround from system center central:

  • Change link properties (Rename file name)

    Hi All,
    As usual, I am new to Acrobat Scripting, but I have a good knowledge in InDesign Scripting.
    I have project about changing the link attribute.
    What i want to do is, I have a book along with chapters, Now i want to rename all the chapter names. If i rename the file name then i want to change the pdf link also. The following code will work almost, but onething i want to rectify.
    var numLinks=0;
    var desFile='D:\\1.pdf';
    var b = this.getPageBox("Crop", 0);
    var l = this.getLinks(0, b);
    l[0].setAction("app.openDoc('" + desFile + "')", this);
    If you run this code using javascript, you get a link but the property is set as javascript. Here i want to set as open a file.
    If you know the solution, please reply.
    Sudar.

    Have you looked at the 'addLInk()' method in the Acrobat JS API?
    You could also look at using 'theGetURL()' or 'launchURL()' methods.

    I have a main fillable form.  From this main form the user may need additional forms.  I want to create checkboxes that link to these additional forms.  This part I believe I know how to do (Properties/Actions/Open a File).  What I want to add is a javascript to the checkbox that when the new file (or form) opens some of the data (the repetitive data like name, date, etc.) from the main form is placed into the form opened where the same form fields exist.  Is this possible?

    Yes, but then it all has to be done using a script. You can't use the built-in Open A File command.

  • Base URL changed to HTTPS, but trying to download an protected PDF claims using (unsecure) HTTP

    Tried to configure an policy in contentspace to protect native PDF-files by Rights Management.
    Downloading such an file gave an error-message like (translated from german): "Acrobat-Security: you are trying to connect to an Adobe liveCycle Rights Management server over an unsafe protocol. Connection was refused. Please use HTTPS in the future."
    Then we configured the Rights Management Base URL to use the (already configured) HTTPS-protocol and port.
    But when trying an download again, the connection is still blocked claiming that HTTP is still used.
    Where is the additional place to configure the Base URL for the clients (or to be embedded in th eprotected documents)?
    Thanks,
    Dilettanto

    The Base URL is embedded in the PDF when a policy is applied.  You will need to need to re-apply the policy to the source PDF (with the correct Base URL set on the server).

  • How to make a PDF viewable only through an URL or a link?

    Hi
    I'm a newbie to Adobe Lifecycle ES. My ultimate aim to use this suite is to make my pdf viewable only through an URL or a weblink. The system must not allow the user to view the PDF without the particular URL. Is it possible to acheive this through Adobe Lifecycle ES? Please do reply as i'm in an urgency to finish my task.
    Thakns in advance

    If you are trying to control access to the actual URL where the Rights Managed PDF you would need to set up a way to authenticate users to allow them access ot the URL.  This would be done on the web\app server, not using Rights Management ES.
    You would use Rights Management ES to apply a policy to the PDF itself.  A policy controls who can view (open) the document, and once the user authenticates to the RM server to open the document, RM controls the permissions that that user has for the document (i.e. can the PDF be printed, can content be copied etc...)  RM cannot be used to control who can download a PDF form a URL.  Policies can also control if the user must be online and connected to the RM server to open the PDF, or you can allow "Offline" access for a set period of time where the user does not need a connection to view the PDF, however the user still needs to be authenticated to view the document offline.

  • When I click on a .pdf link, I want to download it and display it in Foxit. How can I do that?

    I used to be able to click on a .pdf link and the .pdf file would open in Foxit Reader and be saved to my download folder.
    Now, I think since refreshing Firefox, clicking a .pdf link opens the .pdf in the Firefox browser.
    How can I get .pdf links to open the .pdf in Foxit Reader, and not open in the Firefox browser??

    Hello ririri, you have to set it correct in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/applications-panel-set-how-firefox-handles-files application panel]. See how to do that easily in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file#w_changing-download-actions Changing download actions] article.

  • Internal pdf links not working in chrome and firefox

    I have some PDF files that I am adding links to additional PDF files that are located in the same folder on our webserver using Acrobat Pro XI. The links work fine in IE and the other PDF files open up and display well in the IE browser, but the links don't even show up in Chrome and will not open in Firefox. Further, the links in Safari, deliver an error message pop up saying the file could not be opened. If you click OK, the file does open. Also, in Acrobat > Tools > Add or Edit Link, I can change the properties to "Open File" and pick the "Open in New Window" option, but when I save the changes and come back, the option has automatically changed back to "Execute a Menu Item" and of course, the file I'm linking to does not open in a new Window.  These files were originally created in Word by another person and the person who converted them to PDF added fillable form fields throughout the document prior to converting to PDF. The links I am adding are being added using Acrobat Pro XI in the PDF file. Should we insert the above-mentioned links in the Word docs prior to converting to PDF to ensure the links work in all browsers, or are these browser issues common to all internal PDF links?
    Please help!
    Thanks,

    Make sure that you are using the Adobe PDF NPAPI viewer for Chrome and Firefox.  Both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox now have their own default PDF viewers.

  • Firefox PDF links - Trying to Open in Pages

    Hi all,
    I have a bit of a hiccup in that every time I attempt to click on a PDF link in Firefox 3.6.3 to open the file in Preview, the system attempts to open it with pages and I receive the following error message:
    The document “PhotoVideo_Solicitation1449-1.pdf” couldn’t be opened. In a Pages Error window. The file automatically downloads and I can open it fine from there, but I'd like to be able to open it in Preview directly. I've gone into the OS settings to make sure Preview is default for PDF (it is). I've also made sure that PDF's in Firefox Preferences are set to open in Preview (it is).
    Thanks if anyone can offer advice, solutions etc. This brings me back to my Windows days, of which I NEVER want to return!!!

    Welcome to the forum.
    Sounds like your "helper applications" have got muddled.
    In Firefox:
    +Menu > Firefox > Preferences > Content > File Types > Configure how Firefox handles certain types of files > Manage… > PDF > Open With > Change Action… > Open them with this application: > Browse to Preview in your Applications folder > OK+

  • PDF links - open in new window

    I have a PDF document that has web links that were created in InDesign, then exported as a PDF. Once in the PDF, the links are fine but I would like for a new browser window to open when they are clicked rather than within the same browser window. I can't seem to find this in the preferences or properties, etc? How do I do this? Thank you!

    Is the link an HTML link, or within a PDF? Is it a URL link or a file link?

  • View PDF link in new window

    From my "main" pdf, how can i view an attached (or embedded) pdf link in a new window? Currently the link opens in the same window as the main pdf. I selected "go to page view" and viewing in new window isn't an option.

    Thank you for your reply!
    I'm on Mac Acrobat X. My goal is to send out one pdf file and have all pdf links embedded. I'm in need of specifics so I'll explain my process...
    Open main pdf
    Place other pdf in attachments
    Create link on main pdf page
    "Go to page view"
    "Next"
    Highlight the attachment link
    "Set link"
    Control click to get to properties for new link
    "Actions"
    Highlight—Go to a page in this document (if I highlight anything else it goes outside of my pdf file rather than using attached links)
    "Edit"
    And the only 2 options I have are 1.)Use page number and zoom to fit page, and 2.)Used named destination which takes me no where
    Your thoughts would appreciated.
