PDF Maker Error

I have a Vista SP2 system that has Adobe Acrobat 9 installed that was working just fine creating PDFs from MS Word etc.  Then I installed InDesign CS2 and now Acrobat gives an error "The Acrobat PDFMaker Server could not be loaded.  Do you want to run the installer in repair mode".  I have removed and reinstalled the software but still get the same error.  A screen shot of the error message is attached.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Either repair or reinstall Acrobat 9. CS2 is marginal for VISTA, but contains a previous version of Acrobat. That installation is what broke AA9.
If all fails, uninstall AA9, remove any left over parts of the AA9 folder, Run the MS Cleanup tool on your system, reboot, and reinstall AA9. Probably another reboot and then all of the updates (install them in order). You can download the updates from Adobe.com>downloads>updates

  • Error message: Missing PDF maker files in Word 2007

OK, I am beyond frustrated. I have had nothing but trouble with Windows Vista and Adobe Acrobat. Please help!!!
What happens: first, the pdf addin for Word 2007 suddenly becomes disabled, for no apparent reason. Forget about trying to re-enable it through the Add-Ins menu, because Word tells me that the "connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed". This is a problem for me, because I use a special font (Vietnamese) that sometimes gets corrupted when running pdf maker. The only consistent way I have found to avoid this problem is to run the pdf maker as "Quick PDF" and as far as I can see that option is only available through the pdf addin in Word, I have never been able to find it when I open the Acrobat program and create a pdf from there.
Second problem: shortly after the pdf addin becomes disabled, my Acrobat program loses the ability to create pdfs altogether. I get the error message "Missing PDF maker files". Yes, I have tried repairing the installation and re-starting my computer per the instructions given. It doesn't fix the problem. I also tried looking in the Knowledge Database on this website, but it appears that the instructions they have to fix the problem there are for earlier versions of Word, not 2007, because my version of word does not look like the version of Word in their little videos.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I resolved the problem by a) re-installing Acrobat, which is a pain because it involves calling Adobe and wading through their customer service to get a new installation number, and b) paying a computer repair service to dig deep into the guts of my computer and convince it to change the Office Add-ins to allow the pdf addin again. It worked for about 6 months, and now I have the same problem again. For some reason Vista is spontaneously disabling Acrobat.
I simply cannot deal with this every few months. We all know that Vista is a crappy program, but I run a business and I need a program that works with whatever crappy program Microsoft puts out. Please, can anyone give me suggestions about how to re-enable these functions when Vista disables them?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alycia

  • Adobe Acrobat 8. Receiving error "Missing PDF maker files"

I have had this software for several years and have had no problems.
I am receiving the error note above when trying to merge two files into a single PDF file.
I tried reloading the software and also looked on line for updates. There were no updates posted.
    Any ideas?

You have to have AA8.1 to use PDF Maker with OFFICE 2007. With AA7, you can only print to the Adobe PDF printer. If you are upgrading to Win7, then upgrade to AA9 to go with it.

  • PDF-maker causing Word runtime error crash since Acrobat update

Acrobat X updated last week, and the first time I used it it asked me whether to enable the PDF-maker plugin/add-on. I said yes, and ever since, about every second time I open Word I get a runtime error and it crashes. The Acrobat toolbar is not available at this point in Word (2003), and I can't find anywhere to disable the PDF-maker plugin in either Word or Acrobat. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat PDF Maker doesn't work after installing UPDATES(!) to Adobe Creative Suite 3 (on Windows 7)

    Hi,
I installed Adobe Creative suite 3 Premium on Widows Vista....then upgraded to Windows 7,...never had any problems.
Today Adobe Update Advisor downloaded and installed some updates to Adobe Professional 8 (that came in a package with Adobe CS3 premium)....since then (it has been 3-4 hours), I cannot convert any document into PDF using ANY application MS Office 2007, as a Printer in browser...etc..
    The error message says:
    "Missing PDF Maker Files.
Do you want to run installer in repair mode?"
I clicked on Yes, then waited, then restarted my PC, and that didn't solve the problem"
Adobe Support (a very unfriendly guy) told me that AdobeProfessional 8 support for Windows 7 is not available and that I can either upgrade to Adobe 9 (no way, I paid way too much money for Adobe CS3), refer to Adobe Forum, or reinstall Adobe CS3.
Can someone tell me how to solve this problem without reinstalling the whole CS3?
    Thanks .

Why did you “upgrade” to Windows 7?
Shouldn't have Microsoft given you free updates to Windows XP or Windows Vista to give you all the fixes that appeared in Windows 7?
Do you expect an automobile manufacturer to retrofit at no cost to you your two year old vehicle with the latest doodads associated with the latest in consumer electronics, automated toll taking, and GPS?
Accounting rules in the United States associated with something called “revenue recognition” limit what companies can do to retrofit products with new features after they are released/sold. Supporting significant differences and/or features in a new operating system version or for that matter incompatibilities and features in another application (such as new versions of Office) require significant modifications to accounting practices to hold reserves to account for the possibility of such updates. Furthermore, ignoring these accounting and finance ramifications, keeping an extra set of engineers working to retrofit old software versions would significantly increase Adobe's costs and hence the price charged for this software.
Be aware that except for custom software with ongoing maintenance and/or retainer contracts, typical commercial software is licensed for use with the equipment and software environment that it was originally designed for and that fact is already built into the cost and pricing structures. The pricing of upgrades to new software versions reflects the cost of providing support for newer equipment and software environments as well as any new features.

  • PDF maker issue in Leopard and Word 2004

I just upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 8.1.6, Word 2004 (11.3.8). When using Word in 10.4, the PDF Maker toolbar worked fine. Now in Leopard, using the PDF Maker button, I get an error that the printer is not present. But it is there and I can print to Acrobat printer fro the print menu of any app. I tried repair acrobat installation from the Acrobat help menu. But that keeps telling me I have Safari or a Microsoft app open when all are closed.
    Thoughts?

Repair the printer subsystem not needed/done in Leopard according to other sources.
    I tried:
    Start-up in safe mode
new test account with no login items
    repair permissions
    maintenance tasks
still, I get the message from Acrobat that I need to quit MS or Safari apps.
    Very strange!

  • Send Email Using PDF Maker for Word 2007

I am using Word 2007 with the Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM add-in. When I try to Mail Merge to a PDF, I get an error message that says "Acrobat PDFMaker was not able to mail merge the document." I click OK, and a new box says "Run-time error '5825'". Any ideas?

Re: PDF Maker Mail Merge error
I've had this same problem with one word document and I think I figured out what is going on, at least in my case. I'm using Word 2003. I tried a test of one merge record, and it worked, but when I tried to complete the entire merge, it failed. After trying several times to no avail, I noticed that the first word in my document had the red spell check underline, even though the word was not spelled wrong. When I placed my mouse cursor in front of the first letter of the word, the font information said "ZWAdobeF" and the size was 1. After I deleted this and tried the merge to e-mail through the Adobe plugin, it worked flawlessly. After the merge was completed however, that font reappeared in front of the first word in my document.
I hope this helps some people out there.
Also, I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, Windows XP SP3.

  • Cannot restore PDF Maker and Add-in to MS Word 2007

    Hi,
I have Acrobat Pro 9 installed as part of CS4 Design Premium onto Win Vista + MS Office 2007 environment.
When this was first done, "Acrobat" menu showed on MS Word's ribbon but this had disappeared and replaced by ScanSoft PDF Create 4 add-in menu, which was bundled with an OCR program.
Unfortunately, the PDFs produced by this version of PDF Create isn't compatible with Auto Field Detection of Acrobat 9 to create fillable PDF forms so I uninstalled PDF Create and ran Acrobat installer in repair mode several times but the "Acrobat" menu doesn't get retored on MS Word and I still get
"Missing PDF Maker Files   Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"
error message every time I try to convert *.docx file into PDF from Explorer using contextual menu.
    How can I rectify this?
I'm using subscription version of CS4 Design Premium.

    Hi again
I've since found out that Acrobat PDFMaker Add-in was in the disabled list of MS Office Word Add-ins.
In fact, the situation is pretty much described in Solution 1 of http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401734.html and http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403561.html (thanks, CtDave!) so I followed the instruction to enable the Add-in.
It was, however, not possible to simply enable the PDFMaker Add-in as it rejected my attempt to tick the box by indicating I have to do this as administrator (below is the stuff I get when running Word as Maki, i.e. non-admin)
It gets more confusing when I DID run Word as administrator, the PDFMaker Add-in wasn't disabled (see below)
There is no menu item like "share the setting with other users" so I'm stuck.
I did go to MS Office Word Forum and saw people posting similar problems but it seems they are trying to send people to Adobe Forum...
    Any suggestions?

  • Adobe PDF Maker has detected that document is protected. Could not create PDF using Pro

    Hi All,
I am new to this forum and have just started recently using Adobe Pro to  convert huge number of Microsoft Office documents into PDF.
I get this error when I am batch Processing.
Adobe PDF Maker has detected that the Document is Protected. It will be unable to create Tags, links and notes with protection on. Do you wish to continue and create PDF without Tags.
I click Yes , but still I do not see the PDFs created.
By the way where do i look for the failed documents . Is there any log file. Just to scroll down at the end of batch processing is time consuming.
    Thanks for all your input.

There is typically a log file produced and located in the folder with the file I think (I don't run into the errors much and so do not look for the files). It is also possible you have turned off retaining the file.

  • PDF Maker cannot append

I hope that someone can help solve a current problem.
I have a user computer running Acrobat X pro and Outlook 2010 on the local machine.  The user can convert email messages without error.  However when the user attempts to append to an existing PDF thread the following error is received.
" Adobe PDF maker cannot create PDF file.  Make sure the file is not already open in Adobe Reader.  Click Retry to try again or click Save As to choose another name for this file"
I want to note that the PDF is not open when message is received, and sometimes the "Try Again" function works.  The user can print, scan, move and edit PDF's just fine.  This issue is isolated to the PDF appending function in Outlook.
    Please Help!!!!

Thanks for the reply, I have completed all of the updates.  Acrobat X pro does have the ability to both convert and append emails from Outlook.  Whats more frustrating is that only this particular user is having the problem.  No one else in the office.

  • PDF Maker freezes

    Hi all,
When I am creating the printed documentation, I am creating first a docx and from it, using the pdf Maker, I get a pdf.
I do it this way because I can easily edit the document in Word before making a pdf.
At my latest project though, I could not create a pdf from a docx because the pdf Maker would freeze. It would get very slow and then it would freeze completely.
I call the pdf Maker the addin from Word that transforms a Word document into a pdf document.
Did anybody else experience this problem till now?
Are there any fixes to this?
    Thank you,
    Bogdan
PS Sorry, I forgot to mention. I am using RH7.

    Hi Peter,
    Thank you for your answer.
By disabled items you mean, addins?
The Adobe addin is enabled and it starts fine, the ending is the problem as it does not for some reason.
Something in the Word document, I guess, makes it stall. It does not give any error message or such, it just does not do anything.
If I try closing the Word document, it says something about not responding anymore, interrupts the whole thing, and restarts Word.
It is also asking me if I want to disable the Adobe addin to which if I make the mistake to say Yes, I will have a lot of trouble in reactivating it, as it does not want to do it so easily, so I answer No.
If I try again, it starts normally, continues for a while (very slowly though compared to other times) and then stalls again.
I will try to install the addin again, however I do not see anything bad in it as it has the same behaviour in RH7 (on a machine that does not have RH8 installed) and in RH8.

  • PDF Maker hangs

    Hi All,
I have been experiencing an ongoing problem with Adobe Acrobat Standard 8 every since I originally installed the program. The problem is that PDF Maker hangs when I try to create a PDF file from Word.
This only occurs when I am signed-in as “John” (with Administrator rights) on my Laptop. It doesn’t occur when I’m signed-in as the built-in Administrator, although an error dialog appears and then disappears in Windows 8 when I create a PDF.
Details of exactly what I am running are as follows:
    - HP Pavilion DV-7 Laptop (originally with Windows Vista).
    - Windows 8 (64-bit).
    - Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.
    - Microsoft Word 2003.
I have worked around this in the past by signing-in as the Administrator, but can no longer do this as Windows 8 will not open most Apps as the built-in Administrator.
I was planning to upgrade to the current version of Acrobat, but am hesitant to do so until I can resolve this issue.
Any help or advice on a solution would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    John.

    Bill,
    Thanks for the response.
I have AA8 ver8.0.0 installed at present. I have recently re-installed it after upgrading to Windows 8.
I will look into updating to 8.1 or later – although the release note don’t mention this issue.
    Regards,
    John.
