PDF Marker Stalling in Leopard

Hello,
I've got Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 running on Mac Leopard 10.5.4.
I have to make a lot of PDF files out of word documents and excel documents (running Mac Office 2004) and each time I try to create a PDF the status bar runs through to about 90% and then stalls and sticks; leaving the process incomplete.
I've read that a lot of people running Adobe on Mac's, but I don't know of how to fix or solve the problem.
Any advice?
Thank you,
Ryan

PDFMaker uses the following method and actions when creating a PDF thus the reason for taking so long especially when you have a machine with a slow processor:
Converts File To invisiable Postscript file (.ps)
does checksum to see if file viable (up to 3 times)
If does not check starts over. If can not by third time quits.
Converts .ps file to Pdf.
does checksum up to three times
If doesn't appear to be Viable starts over
If after 3 times doesn't have vaible file quits.
After File determined to be viable then erases invisiable .ps file.
Then creates PDF does checksum check to see if viable.
If everything okay then PDF appears at desired location
PDFMaker quits.
Also another Thing PDFMaker uses VBA and therefore does not work at all in Office2008 as there is no VBA in Office2008.
IF creating PDF's from within Office your better off going to Save As... and choosing save as PDF. Besides being much faster. eliminates the broken apart file when Office uses insert page break ot Insert Section Break.
They've eliminated the problem That has Plagued Acrobat since there was PDF used on Office products (word/Excel). Inserted breaks would cause Acrobat to start a new pdf at each break.

    Enable plug-ins
Put a check mark in the box next to  "Enable plug ins".

  • Printing to pdf is stalled at the status bar stage under acrobat 9.5.4

I have this issue about printing to pdf. No matter what program (Word, Notepad...) I use to print to pdf by selecting the Adobe PDF option under the choices of "Print" window, this is what would happen:
    1) New windown pops up OK for me to name the pdf file and location to save the file to
    2) Then, the status bar of the pdf printing progress pops up. However, this progress bar would get stuck for ever, not going all the way !!!!
I have Adobe Acrobat Std 9.5.4 installed. My PC runs win7/home/64bit. I am not using AVG free anti-virus. Avira free anti-virus is running on my PC.
Please help !!!!  Thanks much !!!!

Hi, Thanks much for your reply. Unfortunately, it did not my issue:
    1) Print to file: "Print to file" did produce a file. However, this file could not be opened by acrobat.
    2) Restart AcroTray: I did this. Again, It did not solve my issue with printing to pdf. It gets stalled again in the process bar window.
    What is acrobat so difficult?
    Any other idea?  thanks.

  • PDF maker issue in Leopard and Word 2004

I just upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 8.1.6, Word 2004 (11.3.8). When using Word in 10.4, the PDF Maker toolbar worked fine. Now in Leopard, using the PDF Maker button, I get an error that the printer is not present. But it is there and I can print to Acrobat printer fro the print menu of any app. I tried repair acrobat installation from the Acrobat help menu. But that keeps telling me I have Safari or a Microsoft app open when all are closed.
    Thoughts?

Repair the printer subsystem not needed/done in Leopard according to other sources.
    I tried:
    Start-up in safe mode
new test account with no login items
    repair permissions
    maintenance tasks
still, I get the message from Acrobat that I need to quit MS or Safari apps.
    Very strange!

  • Reader 6.0 won't load PDF's stalls on updater.api

I have a CDROm that I have loaded many times but no
w when I try to view the PDF files it stalls on:
loading & certifying updater.api it freezes and doesn;t move I have to restart my PC when I do that the END PROGRAM window make sme close FONT CAPTURE program whateve that is. I am using 6.0 but I updated to 9.0 at some point but that will not open the CDROM PDF files at all so I removed every Adobe file using remove programs and loaded 6.0 but still doesn't work. What do I need to do to fix this????? PLease HELP!!!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Looking for PDF Mark Up Software

I need to do simple PDF markups.
I need to be able to “white out” certain areas of a document. Draw circles, straight lines, make arrows, and add text. Nothing too fancy.
I have been using PDFpen, however, they have acknowledged certain bugs and they have also acknowledged their inability to fix them, so I am looking for an alternative.

    Ziatron wrote:
So as I understand it, if I want to mark up PDF documents my only choices are:  PDFpen, Adobe Acrobat, or PDFClerk?
Some of the Adobe apps like Illustrator/Indesign/Photoshop can import a PDF and then of course you can draw over it all you like with those apps' tools, which can be useful if you already own those apps. Usually with those apps it's more awkward than using Preview/Acrobat, though, since they're not native PDF editors.

  • PDF MARK UP READING ON IOS.

Hi; I’m currently using adobe acrobat xpro. I mark up the documents and send them to my boss who uses an IPAD to view the documents. Because he has not downloaded the adobe acrobat viewer he is not able to read my mark ups. Q: If I use an apple product to make my pdf’s will my boss need to download a viewer to be able to read my mark ups to the document? Please advise with thanks, Will

HI Brent; my boss has to pass this information on to various parties. It is
important for us to come up with a way to read the mark ups on the document
regardless of the personal IOS having the adobe reader downloaded. Is there
something I can do at my end?
They want me to solve it at my end. Regards, Will

  • Print to PDF in Illustrator running Leopard OS

i cannot print to a PDF file (as opposed to saving to PDF) from Illustrator now that i have upgraded my operating system to Leopard. any suggestions?

using Illustrator CS3 and running Leopard 10.5.6. the only option available in the print dialogue for a printer is "Adobe Postscript File". all drivers appear to be present, but even selecting a printer will only allow me to save to a postscript file. when i was running Tiger OS, i was able to print direct to PDF; that option has disappeared.

  • HOW TO MAKE PDF from InDesign CS3, LEOPARD 10.5.1

Sorry if this is discussed...I am using CS3 and Leopard 10.5.1 on an Intel Mac Pro.
Is there no way to save a PDF of my InDesign invoice (so I can Email it to my client and get paid)?

    Hi, dal,
what Aandi suggests is to rearrange the pages in InDesign before exporting them. But you can also change the pages order with Acrobat (Professional, not the Reader). Just duplicate your exported pdf in the Finder. Then in Acrobat under the Document-Menu you can add, delete and export and replace pages until you have the required pages order.

  • PDF maker stalls

With Acrobat Pro 6 installed (and recently having downloaded a free Acrobat 9 Reader) any attempt to make a pdf stalls, process as follows: After starting the print process (and selecting "Adobe PDF"),  the horizontal 'progress graphic' simply freezes. A week or so ago, I ran it overnight and it did complete the PDF, but took a silly length of time, 6 hours or so. Last night, it did not work at all.
As you can guess, my initial hunch was to uninstall the Acrobat 9 Reader. That has not solved it. Although I do not use the PDF making feature much, I certainly used to work.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks!

Here is the update, and perhaps an explanation, since I see no replies.
After removing the Adobe 9 reader, I found that all my PDFs could no longer be read. So, I attempted to reinstall the Adobe 9 reader. In doing so, I saw a message that I had not recalled before, indicating that the v9 installation would remove any Adobe Acrobat pre-5.1 (you may recall mine is v6), and that I should make sure I have the original to reinstall. Ouch.
After 2 hours rummaging in the garage for a 9 year old software box, I give up. What looks like "planned obsolescence" may have won out, although I will politely give Adobe the benefit of the doubt and ask for help. The scenario, as it has played out, is not an especially satisfying result, especially since disabled software on the machine.
    Adobe, can you assist me?
    Thank you.

  • How come 'compare pdf' marks images as different even though I find no difference?

we are printing a brochure in 4 different languages and change the plate for black only (the text is black), the rest remains the same for all four versions. In oder to make sure the images are axactly the same in all four files I tried 'compare pdf' which then marks images as different although I don't find any difference, when I check the Indesign files. Where does this come from and is there any other way of checking, whether images are exactly the same if you print different versions together and only change the plate for black? For some reasons the printer does not want to put the black of the text on a different plate than the black of the images.

  • Preview PDF merging in snow leopard

Prior to snow leopard, preview could be used to combine multiple PDF's in to one. Now when I attempt to do so, it saves one page, not the entire file. In addition, it seems to keep pages grouped by how they were added. So if trying to combine two 2 page pdfs into a 4 page, it keeps them as separate pages. None of this was an issue prior to the snow leopard upgrade.
Ideas? Other free programs to download for use?

you can still do it but the process is slightly different. open the pdfs in separate windows and expand the sidebars. then drag the second document from its sidebar and drop it *right on top* of the first one in its sidebar. this will combine them and you can save them as one. you can also do the same to groups of pages in the sidebar of the same Preview window. just drop one group onto the other.

  • Music stalling after leopard install

Seems that after I installed Leopard or one of the later updates my music stalls and freezes the ipod for about a minute than it goes to dark with apple icon. My podcast play fine. I have the newest version of iPod software. and newest version of leopard. 30gig iPod with 18gig free.

I'm running Leopard and 1.2.3 no problem. Why does everybody blame Apple software instead of trying to fix the problem?
