PDF Nightmare

PDF's are currently not being displayed in the browser.
I installed adobe viewer and this has stopped working. It still apears to be loading the page however the result is just a blank page.
I wish to reset safari to show all pdf files in the browser using preview. How would I do this?
I would most appreciate any help on this matter as opening pdf files is important for my work at university

Hi Christopher, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can change the default app easy enough, it has nothing to do with Safari though. Just choose any .pdf file on your hard drive and "get info" (command-i) turn the disclosure triangle on "Open with" then select "Preview" then click on "change all".
But first, have you tried trashing the prefs on Acrobat Reader?
Navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences/com.adobeacrobatreader.plist and trash this file. Then restart Acrobat Reader and test.

    After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!
    For example,
    1. It would never finish printing the file, just the first so many pages. So... 
    2. I updated the driver, and then I could print one copy only without problems. But...
    3. I can never print more than one copy of a PDF without collate mis-sequence problems. It just does not print one whole copy before printing the next copy. And it goes back and forth printing some of the first copy, then the second, then a few pages from the first, etc. Eventually it all prints, but they are mixed up sequentially. But some pages are in order.  And...
    4. It prints soooo slow compared to before.

    Yeah, this sounds like a general print driver problem with the newer versions of the Adobe products, not just Acrobat or ID. Ricoh may or may not have an updated driver, but theyare definitely the ones to ask.
    You haven't told us the OS... Some Mac users have had good luck, I think, using the CUPS drivers with problem printers when the manufacturer doesn't have a solution, but I'm a Windows guy, so don't do much with Mac printing.

  • When did Adobe decide to market a product that manifestly doesn't work? It should be so simple, but it's made so difficult. Even the process of getting help is a nightmare. How do I get a PDF converted?

    How does anyone get a point over to Adobe? Not everyone needs or wants a bewildering range of product permutations. I bought the product to do just what it should - convert PDF to word. It worked once, I had the 'Welcome' email, and from then on, it's failed in every possible way. How many others using this forum have a similar experience?

    Thanks for the help. I have been really trying hard on this and appreciate your help. I know that I have put at least 40 hours in trying to get a simple connection to a database with a c# program with VS2005. Something funny must be going on because I am sure that it shouldn't be this difficult.

  • Accessibility PDF in Tamil - The Worst Nightmare

    Hi there,
    Here are tech details:
    MAC OS X 10.9.3, InDesign CC, MS Word file provided in Tamil using Arial Unicode.
    I imported the text into InDesign (since I received a template in English for that document). I formatted document using the template styles. Exported as PDF from InDesign. Went to Adobe Acrobat and ran Tools - Accessibility - Full Check. It returned 6 errors divided as follows: Document - 4 and Page content - 2.
    Document: Logical reading orders - left as is; Primary Language - I added TAM for Tamil - Passed; Title - Fixed - Passed; Color Contrast - left as is.
    Page content: Tab order - fixed -Passed; Character Encoding - Failed (20 Words). In the screenshot you will see the character that returns that error.
    As you can see it's repeating all over the document.
    According to Help file of Adobe it looks like a font issue. Since Arial Unicode is installed on MAC I looked further for other fonts. That way I understand that it is wide used InaiMathi.ttf
    I changed entire document font to Inai Mathi. I created the PDF, I checked it for full accessibility. There was no error regarding Character Encoding - Passed. Yet, the client returned the document to me saying that there was an error regarding the font.
    Now I am stuck. As I read on various Forums, including on this one, the only thing left for me to do is to change the font. To what? At a point I found 120 fonts for Tamil. I tried 12 of them. Most of them are returning same 20 Character Coding error and I even found one that returned 40 Character coding errors.
    As a indirect question to my issue, is there a chance to select what font to be used when adding ALT TEXT to Images in InDesign?
    Any valuable input will be appreciated. I do have a Windows partition on my MAC in case that the only solution is to format the document under Windows.

    I have no experience with Mac, InDesign, or the Tamil language, but I won't let that stop me from taking a stab in the dark! Regarding the PDF that passed for you but failed for the client - was the font embedded? I am not really sure if that would make a difference but it is something I would check. You can embed fonts in Acrobat Pro using Preflight - at least on a PC - unless the font forbids embedding. I would think if the font is embedded it should behave the same on any machine, but again, not completely sure.

  • Envy x360 battery short and CMOS/RTC | No dedicated CMOS battery = Kafkaesque HP support nightmare

    Caveat:
    If I'm wrong about this, I'll eat my hat with a sauce made of ultra-expensive brand-name HP ink.
    Question:
    Does anyone at HP want to take reponsibility for a series of the company's tech support representatives giving horribly wrong hardware information, wasting customer time and money?
    Summary:
    1. I have apparently experienced a short in my main battery.
    2. In the x360, the real-time clock (RTC) and BIOS settings are apparently powered by the main battery, not a separate CMOS/RTC battery.
    3. (1) and (2) explain why my symptoms include a CMOS checksum error and 0-set RTC on boot.
    4. Three separate HP representatives have been absolutely insistent that:
        (a) I have a CMOS/RTC battery that just isn't disclosed in the service manual.
        (b) My symptoms indicate the need for CMOS/RTC battery replacement.
        (c) This requires a 2-week+  send-in service, even though I live right next to an authorized support center.
        (d) A much less intrusive main battery replacement could not help me, since I have a CMOS issue.
    5. I have already had to pay $54 and change for a local shop to confirm that HP support has been, for want of better terms, full of it -- they have been BSing me by phone and live chat, and there is no dedicated CMOS battery.
    6. Because of HP's intransigence, I now face the choice of either
        (a) paying another $54+ to get myself a new main battery on the open market
             or
        (b) completely unnecessarily going without my primary work machine for weeks in order to get a new main battery for free from HP.  That's assuming that the people at the service center know that replacing the motherboard won't do anything for this machine.
    Hilarious and/or Depressing Support Record:
    1. Symptoms
    This is an HP Envy x360 15t hybrid notebook, model u011dx (G6T85UA).
    It had been suspended but suddenly appeared off. It would not power on until AC power was attached.
    It showed a CMOS checksum error (502) on boot, and its real-time clock did not hold the time between power cycles.
    It had inconsistent problems with failed or severely delayed POST completion. 
    If AC power was removed during operation, it immediately died. Information about the main battery still showed up in the OS, where it appeared fully charged but never discharged at all.
    The light next to the AC plug would often blink blue depending on the power state.
    The machine could POST normally (except for the CMOS and RTC failures) with the main battery physically detached.
    2. Call ("Amit")
    I don't have a transcript of my initial call with HP ("Amit"), but here is the gist of it.  My 502 CMOS checksum error implicates the CMOS battery.  My steps are to attempt a BIOS upgrade. Failing that, the computer would need to be sent in for service so that the CMOS battery could be replaced. Amit described it to me as the shape of a small tablet.
    3. False Hope
    When I had initially called, the case was off of the PC and both sides of the motherboard were accessible so that I could try to see if there were any visually obvious problems with the CMOS/RTC battery. Naturally, I couldn't find it, and I had hoped the call would help me. In any case, Amit would need to call back in 60-90 minutes after I had the chance to take care of other things and re-connect the machine's components so that I could boot it and do a BIOS upgrade.
    Just before he called back, the machine appeared for one or two power cycles to have overcome its problem.  It even seemed like it was drawing main battery power for a few moments during a session with AC power detached. Amit closed the case for me pending the problems recurring.
    I concluded that one of the following two things must have happened. Either:
        (a) All of the problems were related to the main battery, and the main battery connector had just gotten jarred loose so that one or two pins were not contacting properly. By disconnecting and reconnecting the main battery in my search for the RTC/CMOS battery, I had solved the issue by reseating it properly.
            or
        (b) All of the problems were related to the CMOS battery. But by having it on AC power for testing for a little while, I had charged the CMOS battery enough to enable POST and for it to mediate the transition from AC to battery power (I know this probably isn't how it should work, but hey).
    I also updated the BIOS to the newest version so that I could ensure I was following the pre-shipment troubleshooting step set out by Amit.
    Fairly quickly after the second call and the closing of the case, all of the symptoms recurred.  I carefully re-checked and re-seated the main battery to rule out (a) above.  I then decided to run the computer on AC power for several hours to test theory (b) above. When this failed, I went back to the HP site and opted for chat support.

    I clearly have a problem with my invisible CMOS battery.  Also, this CMOS battery is absent from the manual because it isn't supposed to be user-removable, not because it doesn't exist.  Note especially the exchange at 2:02.

    5. I pay money to have the CMOS battery checked
    Clearly, I wasn't inspired by that chat. Maybe the rep was just wrong about the hardware. More likely, it was just my own ignorance that kept me from finding the CMOS battery, and so I would benefit from a real technician checking it, maybe replacing it or telling me I really did need to send it to HP for service, and also looking at the main battery circuit.
    A couple of hours and $54.13 in diagnostic fees later, I had my answer from the technicians.  My main battery had a short in it and needed to be replaced. There is no dedicated CMOS / RTC battery on this motherboard. The clock and BIOS use main battery power, and it makes perfect sense that the main battery fault would therefore include symptoms normally associated with a simultaneous failure of a main battery and a dedicated CMOS battery in another computer.  This PC is not unique in lacking a dedicated CMOS battery.  I could buy a new main battery for around $55.
    Obviously, I was now thoroughly upset at HP Support. With this clearly being a main battery issue and the main battery being easy for me to replace and covered by warranty, HP could just send me a new main battery. I wouldn't even care if they wanted to tell me that swapping it myself would void the rest of the warranty period -- better than going without my PC for weeks on end. Failing that, I would probably rather even pay the money for a new battery from a retailer rather than go through the stupidity of sending this PC in just to have the battery swapped out. But now I had already paid the equivalent of that new battery cost just to get the correct information about my hardware, solely because official HP Support had given me false information -- twice!

I think I had already let him know that I had looked for it just to check if there was anything obviously wrong and couldn't find it, and I had wondered if there really was one.

    I provided all the requested information in response to the private message from HP staff. Nothing ever came of it; as far as I can tell, no real human being ever attempted to contact me after being "forwarded" the details of the case.
    Three days after I tweeted at them, @HPSupport sent me a series of public replies. In essence, they told me to abandon useless post-sales technical support and get information from HP Sales.

    Oh dear.  So technical support doesn't have technical information about HP machines, and sales support doesn't answer technical questions about HP machines and refers you to technical support. Brilliant.  But by this time, I of course knew better than to actually *believe* what someone was telling me, so I used the sales phone number instead.
    The sales guy was super eager to help, especially since I framed this as a problem of future use. I work on disaster vulnerability issues. If I buy Envy x360 15ts and use them in a place where there isn't AC power for a while, can I swap spare batteries into them without screwing up the BIOS and real-time clock settings?
    He put me on hold two or three times for what I was led to believe were very thorough attempts to get me a totally definitive answer.  And this is what someone eventually told him to tell me.  All HP machines ship with CMOS batteries.
    So I must have been mistaken all along, right?  The CMOS battery must have stopped working at the same time as the main battery.  It must just be that neither I nor my local repair shop could find my CMOS battery because we all have the wrong prescriptions on our glasses and contact lenses.  Well, there's just one small issue with getting to that conclusion: what HP told me about my machine was, once again, totally false.
    How do I know?  Because I still didn't believe HP, and rather than shipping my compter off for weeks in the big padded box, I ordered a new main battery for a total of just over $60.  I swapped it. Guess what happened, HP?  If you guessed, "every aspect of the problem instantly resolved, because there never was a CMOS/RTC battery in this machine in the first place", you would win a gold star. But I'm assuming you'd also lose your job, because this particular piece of information has somehow been banished and outlawed from the minds of HP employees and contractors.
    I wonder: would anybody at HP be interested in apologizing to me, much less in finding a way to make up for the $115+ I've lost because nobody at any stage to this point has been willing to act like a human being?
    BUT WAIT, THERE'S GREAT NEWS
    I shouldn't make it seem through this thread that HP totally lacks competence and doesn't care about me at all. Because within two hours of receiving the email from HP Sales telling me that they weren't going to do anything about my problem, I started receiving advertising email blasts full of great offers and promotions about  buying a new HP laptop and other great products! Yay! I guess I'm not invisible after all. And I'm sure if I bought *more* stuff from HP, they would take care of me then. Right?

  • How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

    Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format  and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
    So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?

  • Create Link to attached PDF file

    Hi guys
    I am having a nightmare!
    I have been provided with a Word document which contains links to embedded PDF documents.  It all works lovely, you click on the link in the word document and up pings the embedded PDF in a new window.
    My issue is that I now have to turn the Word document into a PDF to put on our website.
    I have tried numerous ways of PDFing the Word document but none have been successful in maintaining the embedded PDFs within it.  When I open the PDFd Word Doc it can see that there is links, but when you click, nothing happens.
    I have accepted there probably isnt a way to do this, so I came up with an alternative plan of saving all of the embedded PDF links to my hard drive, PDFing the original word document, attaching the embedded PDFs to the main parent PDF and linking to them.
    HOWEVER! I cannot figure out how to link from the main PDF to the attached PDFs.  I can create a link but there doesnt seem to be a way to set it to open the attached PDFs (which ideally should open in a new window ..) ARRGHH!

    Sounds like you on a Mac. And Adobe has let this bug go on for 15 years with no intentions of fixing.
    Take the word File and if You have Apple's Pages (part of the iWork package) and Open there (will be imported)
    Verify That your formatting has not been changed. (Making sure all links work.)
    If not  changed, create the PDF from there.
    Go to Print Menu
    Click on PDF and Hold
    When window pops up choose Adobe PDF
    Follow directions as the Pop up.
    All your Links should be live. IF they were live in the Pages file.
    It seems after 15-20 years Adobe programmers haven't learned various codes Word uses to make links, and. Even 2011 which used parts of Office 2007 and 2010 to create it. the only difference were UI (User Interface) and key mappings for short cuts.

  • How do I create a PDF from ID, so that when the PDF is opened in Reader, the text is editable?

    Three different members of Adobe Support have unfortunately been unable to resolve this problem so I am pinning all of my hopes on my fellow users! Please Help!
    I have been sent a PDF by my client (created via their previous agency) which when opened in Reader (not Acrobat) enables me to edit the existing text (in the existing fonts, granted only Helvetica) and re-save it as a hi-res PDF.
    I have tried virtually everything to get this to work without success, I can create 'editable fields' but this deletes the existing text and inserts a blank box over the top which I can type into with the default 'Times'.
    What will ultimately happen is that I will design the documents in English and then they will be uploaded to an ftp for download at various offices around the world. Therefore they need to translate what we have written but retain the same document design.
    I know this is possible because I have the PDF in front of me, I also know that PDFs in essence weren't designed to be editable but apparently it is now achievable and very useful if I can get the blasted thing to work

    Well, everything in those PDFs were form fields. You can make form fields in Acrobat - and then you can right-click on 'em and change their appearance, whether or not they'll accept rich text input, whether or not they'll scroll, and so on. It could also be done in LiveCycle Designer, for what it's worth. I wrote a now-obsolete post about this in response to yours before Mike showed up with this video.
    Probably most of your work on your designs in InDesign would need to be trashed; you'd need to rebuild the whole thing in Acrobat or LiveCycle. I have to say that, unless your targeted documents are extremely simple, that this is one of the worst document translation workflows I've ever seen in the last fifteen years. It might work - I'm trying to keep an open mind, here - but if you have any non-Latin-script languages in your target list, or if print reproduction is what you're after, or if you're expecting tracking revisions to the translations to be anything but a nightmare, I would suggest that you test this method inside and out before progressing any further.

  • Can I create a template PDF (or other file) in InDesign, that my client can update images in?

    I've designed a brochure for a client, and they would like to know if I can make a version where they will be able to swap out the images (and text) to update it for future projects.
    This is perfectly fine by me, as I am taking on other clients and may not be able to do this for them in the future. I also know how to create the text in this way, as I can set up each header and body as a separate "form" they can fill in with Reader and save... however, I don't know how to make it possible for them to edit/replace the images without them having something like Acrobat.
    Is it possible to create an interactive frame they can "upload" an image to and then save the PDF? They are a small business, so I'd rather not tell them they have to buy additional software. I'd also like to make it as easy for them as possible.
    I am also aware, however, that even if an image can be embedded, a PDF may not be able to resize an image to fit within such a frame. I can, however, write an exe that will resize the images for them if needed. I just don't know how to get them into the PDF...
    A template like this would probably be simple in HTML, but unfortunately the design of the brochure is beyond my ability to reproduce in Dreamweaver, and I also assume printing an HTML document would be a nightmare for the print shop lol.

    You can use the same forms method for images, but it gives you no control over postioning in the frame or scaling/cropping.
    The bottom line here really is that this kind of editing should be done in ID, and if they want to do it they probably should invest in a license, even if it's just a month-to-month subscription when they need it.

  • Embedding XML data file into PDF, and reading from it?

    Sorry, I'm new to here and new to the Acrobat and its scripting. So, maybe my questions will be a bit stupid, but please help. Thanks.
    So, here what I would like to do. I would like to make a class enrollment form for people, so that they can use it to apply for any class(es) they find interests at my centre.
    The old way to do it, is to send them a MS Word file, or a print-out, and they fill in whatever they like. The nightmare starts here, since there is no checking on Word, nor cannot control what people could fill in on their paper. People starts filling in whatever they like, e.g. class number that doesn't match the class name, and that class name doesn't belong to that time slot. And they even miss a digit of their phone number!
    I'm looking for a solution with Acrobat/PDF. And the picture I have in my mind is, to give people my enrollment form in PDF. And would like to embedded the class data (maybe in XML) in that same PDF, so that people won't loose a file and break the whole thing. And the PDF can use that class data to check if people have entre a class that's exist, and choose a date that's available...
    Anyone have or know any good tutorial for that? and on the scripting to do that? Any hints does help. Thanks

    Once you open the file, you can't access it again until the original reference is closed. You might want to look at a functional global architecture. You use a case structure to determine how to access the data. Initialize, write, read, save are common examples of sections inside the functional global.

  • Strange transparency problem trying to print a pdf made in Pages

    Hello,
    Let me apologize in advance for this one, I think it's probably a doosy.
    Not having the know-how to efficiently do a layout in InDesign, I have been doing print projects in Pages. It has worked fine in the past to print to Adobe PDF postscript from Pages, open up Distiller and convert to a CMYK pdf from there. For my current project it worked fine for the first 2 renditions, but for the 3rd edition (incidentally the one the printing company printed) looked very "muddy." Fonts were very rough and rasterized badly, and the whole thing looked kind of "brown-washed". They claimed to use a program called "Apogee" which they said told them there was a transparent layer over everything, converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness.They've also said that it must be a setting in Pages that has caused this, but I can't see how that's possible! When I look at the source file in pages there is no such transparency. Several of the images do have their opacity decreased to varying degrees to help the whole piece blend, however this transparency they say Apogee pulled off the top cannot be seen from my end. We are down to the wire trying to get this job to print again, but I am stumped as to how to ensure that this rendition of the file will be done correctly.
    As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me, often failing to convert on the first or second try, but somehow "magically" working on the second or third attempt for no apparent reason and without doing anything differently.

    Agfa Apogee, introduced in 1998, was simply the first prepress workflow product that processed page-independent PDF instead of processing page-dependent PostScript into an internal and intermediate display list prior to marking. The prepress operator would be using Apogee to preflight the PDF you submit as printing master, and the problems found in the preflight are those of which you were informed.
    As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me,
    Adobe Acrobat Distiller has been difficult to configure since the day it was introduced.
    Adobe Acrobat Distiller is a PostScript interpreter that converts page-dependent PostScript page description programs into page-independent PDF page descriptions without programming loops and links that produce dependencies. PDF uses a directory design for the objects in the page descriptions, a design that originates with Xerox Interpress (the idea of a directory is in fact printed on page 390 of "Interpress - The Source Book" by Harrington and Buckley published in 1988).

    It is left to 'application intelligence' whether to match RGB black for type to CMYK black for type or to match RGB black for type to separationBlack for one plate/plane on a four plate/plane offset press. The problem with an offset press is that it lays down the inks at inking units that are some distance apart which invites misregistration. QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign and other authoring applications developed for PostScript imaging on offset presses have ink palettes with four fixed inks of which Black produces separationBlack.
    Pages does not have this possibility, so if you want your type to image as deviceK / separationBlack then you need to select your type and apply the following procedure, or set up styles with the following procedure applied. Open the Apple Colour Palette, select the CMYK slider mode, select some type, select the Advanced icon (the colour space icon on the left), in the drop-down menu select Device CMYK, and set the slider to C0, M0, Y0, K100. This procedure can be used by the typographer to control that deviceK / separationBlack is imaged, but for as long as Microsoft Word has produced type that is RGB, prepress processes have intercepted this in PostScript and reset it to deviceK / separationBlack including Helios colour management for OPI.
    In prepress there is no way to please all parties. If you as developer say, "OK, I'll set the type to deviceK and then show this colour managed on the display" then you will have designers and people who write for designers like Sandee Cohen yelling at you for making type less black than they think type should be, even if in fact the colour of type printed on diffusing uncoated paper is way lighter than they think. And if you say, "OK, I'll set the type to R0 G0 B0 so it is as black as the designers think type should be" then you'll have the prepress crowd with their offset presses yelling at you. Neither party accept that black is a colour, one wants type to be as black as possible regardless and the other party wants type to mark on one and only one printing plate/plane regardless.

    I would wager a box of Carlsberg beer that the prepress operator is ignorant of the controls in Agfa Apogee, and that Agfa Apogee has a control to catch RGB type and convert to deviceK / separationBlack. Try telling the prepress operator to READ the manual -:).

    Generally speaking, you should not be sending plain PDF to prepress. You should be sending PDF/X-3 which depends on you as designer flattening transparency, or better still PDF/X-4 which passes the problem of flattening transparency to the application intelligence of the prepress raster processing system. PDF 1.3 does not support transparency nor does EPS and nor does PostScript any language level.

  • PDF from html

    I have a large volume of html (currently PDF'ing to around 250 pages) that is generated dynamically.
    My question is a simple one but it's driving me to distraction.
    How can I control the formtting in the resulting PDF. I'm not asking for anything complex here. I want 12pt body text and everything else relative sized based on em size.
    I've tried setting font-size:12pt in body and in a content wrapper div. I've tried it in embedded style sheets and in style attributes.
    I've tried create from html in Acrobat 11 pro, print to pdf, save as pdf in chrome and webkit html2pdf on the server. in each case the font is resized to whatever Acrobat thinks is the best fit.
    So, yesterday my output was at 11.5pt today it's 12.5 although both are rendered identically on screen and firebug and chrome dev tools both show the text to be set to 12pt prior to output.
    I suspect that the culprit here are images and that acrobat 'for my convenience' is automagically resizing to get what it thinks (wrongly) is best fit
    Any ideas?

    I get what you are saying, but I have no choice over source. The info is an export from a Content Mangement System - several hundred individual web pages that are consolidated into a single lump of html. The native CMS export to word and export to PDF are both very poor for anything other than single pages.
    I was hoping to avoid XSL, but accept that it may be my only option - it's years since I've wrestled with that particular nightmare - hopefully there are some tools to make it easier now and I have never created a pdf from xsl formatted xml.
    On your second point, yes, once a pdf is created then its font size is fixed, no problem there. The issue is that I can't see any way to fix the size at the point of creation and really, that's the crux of this request - I just want to be able to say to Acrobat that the base font size for this document is 12pt.
    Practical example - I run an export yesterday - the body font size is set to something like 11.5pt by Acrobat (despite iit being set to 12pt in the css) but I can live with that as long as it's consistent. Tomorrow, I run it again. A user has added a new image (or any width-settable element) to a page that is maybe 60pixels wider than the pervious largest and the body text throughout the pdf is now 10.5pt.
    I understand that this is Acrobat trying to be clever and scaling the text to accommodate the largest element, but I'd much rather tell it to respect the css and truncate or scale the element that doesn't fit - that would be so much easier to troubleshoot

    I just bought and installed Acrobat X Standard, but cannot find the Save As > Optimized PDF option.  I have seen and used this option before in Acrobat X Pro, and it was one of the reasons I bought Acrobat for myself.  Adobe's own website says that this option is available in Acrobat X Standard.  My File > Save As menu has options to save as PDF, Reduced Size PDF, Certified PDF, Reader Extended PDF, and the other format options but no "Optimized PDF" option.
    Does anyone know what might be going on here?  I've tried to look through Acrobat's Preferences to see if I missed something that would enable this option, but I haven't seen anything.  Can this be fixed?  I didn't fork over a bunch of money to have one of the few options I wanted not be available.  If not, is this grounds enough for me to get a refund?  I'd appreciate any help I can get.

    Any idea what can I can expect if I try to explain this to Adobe Customer Service?  I bought the software as a download from Amazon, which will not refund software downloads I just learned.  I'd say that since Adobe's website provides incorrect information, and I based my purchase  off of that incorrect information, that they should do something for me, then fix their website so it doesn't happen again.
    I see that my only two options to talk to customer service are via phone or online chat.   I have no idea how helpful or unhelpful Adobe customer service is (i.e. do they use foreign hard-to-understand call centers or stock-answer chats).  Does it seem like I'd have any chance in the world of communicating this fairly complicated situation and getting an actual resolution from someone?  Is there any email address somewhere I can contact?  That way I could copy and paste the link to the incorrect page on Adobe's website.  If Adobe can't provide me with a refund of some sort, maybe they could just upgrade me to Acrobat Pro or something.  If this is going to be nothing but a many-hour nightmare to try to deal with, though, I'll just eat the money I've spent.
    As a last ditch effort, is it possible to upgrade from my existing Acrobat Standard to Acrobat Pro without having to buy a whole new copy of Acrobat Pro?
