PDF no longer shows up as a printer
I found a 2009 question here that said it has to do with either Windows or Acrobat updates, but I couldn't find the solution on the site the answer linked to.
I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro in Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and I just installed some updates. I want to print a webpage as a PDF. How do I get Acrobat listed as a printer again?

I never had trouble opening Acrobat or the Print dialog box when I clicked on the printer icon. I rebooted, as you suggested, and the PDF printer still didn't show up, but this time when I went into the Print dialog box I think I clicked on Find Printer, then Add a local printer and then Create a new port and chose as Type of port Adobe PDF Port Monitor. Acrobat updated itself after I did that. I guess it wasn't one of the programs that had just updated when the problem happened.

According to some KB documents Apple changed some things in 10.6 regarding PDFs. This is from Adobe.

Ok, that's fine. It works for my needs but my question is this. "Adobe PDF 8.0" shows up in the "Add Printer" window in the System Prefs. From a house keeping perspective, I'd like to remove it but can't seem to find where it is. Searching is no use, nothing comes up. Where does it reside? Library Folder? System Folder?

TomThe first thing to remember when you're dealing with Adobe is never to believe anything Adobe tells you. Their support (if that's even an appropriate term) is either nonexistent or incompetent. Take a look at some of the Adobe forums to get a clearer idea of how low Adobe has sunk. BTW, their Better Business Rating is now a D.

For many years, Adobe has gone their own way with their software installers. They will drop font files in unexpected places, add extraneous devices without your permission, and, as you have discovered, install printer drivers that can't be removed easily. Since Apple has tightened security with Snow Leopard, Adobe can no longer get away with fast and loose messing with your system. The problem here is entirely Adobe's because they won't play by the rules that every other software developer abides by. Don't believe them when they tell you that it's Apple's fault. -

Regarding printing PDF documents...It depends on the PDF document that you are trying to print. In general, it will take longer to print more complex and larger PDF documents.

Actual printing is handled by iOS (not by Adobe Reader) via AirPrint over Wi-Fi connection. We've heard from other users about iOS 8 Wi-Fi connectivity problems.

Exporting a PDF so that non-printing objects show but don't print?
I've just spent a couple hours trying to find an answer to this in the forums, but can't. (The most frustrating was one thread where the original poster said, "I found the answer here," and gave a link that went right back to the main page of the forum. Argh.)
Okay, anyway ... what I need to do?
I've got a document with graphics that I want to show up on the pdf when I export it, but that--if a reader prints it--don't print.
The document looks like a 3-ring binder with "tabs" for each section--just like the real thing. But the rings and tabs go right up to the edge and look terrible when printed, and whose printer can print right at the edge of the paper, anyway? But the tabs work as navigational links while looking a the pdf, and the rings just make it look cool, so I WANT them in the pdf.
I've tried:
Turning the entire layer into a non-printing layer (one that "shows" but does not "print"). But when I export it to a pdf, it doesn't show up on the pdf to look at OR to print. So that doesn't work.
Using the Attribute option to turn each object into a non-printing object, but so far as I can tell, that doesn't do a thing, because they still print from the pdf.
Exporting with the "create pdf layers" turned on and off. Exporting with the "include non-printing items" turned on and off.
Basically, I've pretty much tried everything. I gather, from browsing the forums, that this is POSSIBLE, but can't for the life of me figure out what to do to make it happen. (Short of hiding the tabs' layer and creating an entirely separate PDF and calling it "Print version" which is not exactly what I want to do!)
Is there maybe some magical combination of ons and offs I need to select to make this whole thing work?
(And, seriously, am I the only person who thinks the supporting documentation is just dreadful? I can't find anything in any of the Help screens that even mentions this, much less explains how to do it.)

The button option (and, I'm using CS3, by the way--I should have said that originally) does work in terms of showing on the pdf but not printing.
The problem is that it messes up the way the document looks.
I said it's designed to look like a 3-ring binder with tab-dividers between each section, and each tab has a hyperlink to take you to that section.
Now, when you've got a paper binder in front of you, the tabs stay in the same sequence, and often overlap a bit (which mine do). The problem I'm having, having turned all of them into buttons, is that when you click on any of them, it "jumps" to the front of the row, so that they don't "flow" in the correct sequence.
Am I explaining this well? You know, the top-most tab is at the top of the pile, the next one is always below it and above the third one, and so on ... you never see the second tab on TOP of the first one. I'm trying to get the document to act as close to a hard-copy binder as I can, and it did ... except the buttons keep jostling each other for attention...
I'm going to go play around with this some more now, but ... any suggestions? (Other than restructuring my tabs so that they don't overlap at all?) -

Since updating to Firefox 3.6.15, I can no longer print coupons from SmartSource. The error message is that Java is not detected. The check box is longer showing in the Options/Content of this version of Firefox, so I can not enable it.Same PC as I used to post the question. When I go to the "plug in check" page, it shows I am up to date and it is not disabled.

OS 10.10 printer no longer showing as available - must add manually by IP address
My Epson wifi printer is connected to my home network through wifi. When someone using a mac with OS 10.10 tries to add the printer under system preferences, the printer does not appear as an option. In order to add the printer it must be done manually using the printer's IP address. I called Epson and they said the airport router must be blocking the printer from showing up. They say that since I am able to add the printer manually with the IP address this means that the printer is correctly attached to the home network. They said to contact apple support to see how to change the router settings in order to have the Epson printer display properly. Note that this problem did not occur until after I installed OS 10.10. Previously the printer name showed in the add printer screen. Any help on what I can do?
I agree with Epson.. the problem is Yosemite and it is bug central at least on the network side.
The problem is not the airport router as much as the OS in the computer.. as is clear by the fact it still works fine with NOT Yosemite.
However to get Yosemite working it is sometimes necessary to start again on the airport setup. So.. here we go.
Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem when the AE is the main router. It is a problem when it is bridged.
4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. Yosemite has a nasty habit of ghosting itself on the network and repeatedly changing its name.
5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Even in the latest Yosemite, this is a fail when set to auto.
eg for wireless.

No longer possible to save or print PDF files from browsers
I am suddenly having a problem saving or printing PDF files from the browser, but it extends to all browsers in OS X. I can view the PDF normally but if I try to print as PDF all it shows is two black pages. Then if I try to save as a PDF it tells me the document could not be exported. I just tried this with a PDF and the only way I could get it was via Windows running on Parallels. I've already tried resetting the printer by removing and adding it again with the alt key pressed but this made no difference.
This all started about a week or so ago and I just ignored it at first thinking it was something wrong with a particular file but now it's happening in all cases. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 on a new Mac Pro and everything is up to date. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
Relaunch Safari and test. -
I have iPad 4th Generation with iOS 6.1.3 Since my iBooks was updated to version 3.1.1 I cannot open pdf file attachment in my email. When I tap of the attachment, the iBooks icon no longer show itself. Can someone please help?

Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time. My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down. -

A pdf document created in cs5 cannot be printed in duplex on a pc without cs5 or adobe reader pro

there is a "normal" cs5 created pdf document.
the installed cs5 pc -> i can print in duplex on every printer, without cs5 installed duplex printing not possible.
I am searching for a solution to print the pdf document in duplex mode on every printer, but only with the latest freeware version adobe xi 11.0.3.
(If i install adobe cs4 on a pc it is possible to print the document in duplex mode on a hp3525 printer, but duplex is not possible on a ricoh printer for example mpc5502.)
I cant upload the file, because its bigger than 2 mb. (5mb)

thxYep, it definitely is a complicated workflow... But I'm not really sure of any other way to get from the 34" wide pattern to the home-sewing version which is split into pages and has alignment marks and whatnot. I'm very much an amateur that has figured it out as I went
I went through the page in the photo pretty thoroughly with the layer panel and I couldn't find any mystery lines... But I did find something interesting; when I click on any of the pattern lines, it shows the whole line of the pattern piece, which extends well past the edge of the artboard. So when I'm printing the poster-sized PDF to 7.5x10 pages, it's keeping all the anchor points of a line even if only a small piece of that is on the actual page.

Also, should I be keeping all the files I'm editing as .ai files and then only exporting to PDF for the very final product? I was doing that at first, but then using .pdf for the whole process didn't seem to make any difference. -
The transfer from my itunes book library to ibooks app on my mac (mavericks) went fine. The problems started when I tried syncing. The first time, everything went fine. Pdf's and ebooks showed up on my devices. I then added more pdf's to ibooks on my mac and when I tried to sync them with my devices, some show up and some don't. I thought it might have something to do with file size but again, some large pdf files did show up in tunes and some didn't.
Overall, not all things are mirroring like they are supposed to between the ibooks app on my mac and itunes, resulting in not being able to get all the content I want on to my devices via syncing.
For example, I will delete something out of ibooks but it stays in itunes when I go to sync. I'll delete it from all the devices and the computer and it will still be in itunes and will reload onto my ipad when I sync my entire library. To repeat, I deleted a book out of ibooks but it still shows up in itunes when I go to sync. Other books that I delete from ibooks do disapear from itunes and are no longer availalble for syncing, as it should be.
There was a pdf I changed to an epub in Calibre. I converted it in case the large size of the pdf was a problem. As an epub, it was a smaller file (8.6 mb vs 100 mb). I deleted the pdf from all devices and the ibooks app. I reloaded it into ibooks as an ebook. It showed up fine. I was able to open it with no problems. Went to sync it with itunes and it didn't show up nor appear on my ipad after syncing the entire library.
So, ibooks on computer is working fine. The content is there (or not there when I delete it) in what ever format I want it. I can open and read everything just fine. The problem is trying to get that same content onto my devices via itunes. Why does some content transfet just fine and some doesn't? Why does some content delete fine while other content can't be deleted from itunes? Why do some pdf's load fine in itunes and some won't?
My computer and my devices all have current updates.
Help!I had the same issue. After searching around online I found out that you can try downloading another app (it can be any app) onto your ipod. After it finishes downloading see if your other apps open. You don't even have to keep the new app. Just see if your other ones work and you can delete the new one. That should work. If not, try to hard reset it. Here is another apple support link for steps on hard reseting it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430).

Save as PDF no longer works in Safari in 10.5.1
Since this has to do with the printing interface I'm guessing this is where the post goes.
I found that saving a webpage as a pdf no longer works from Safari 3.0.4 in OS 10.5.1. The print dialog box won't go away after selecting save as pdf so you have to force quit Safari. It looks like the save dialog goes behind the print dialog and I can't get to it.
Anybody else have this issue? I found that other people were having printing of pdf problems, but I didn't see this one.
-DanNever mind. Seems that Default Folder V 3.0.2 was causing the issue. I killed the Default Folder task and problem is gone. Time to buy an upgrade.

Canon ir c3380 driver doesn't show up in "Add printer"
After installing Mac OS X v10.6. My Canon IR C3380 no longer shows up. I've uninstalled all previous canon drivers per PAHU's direction and installed the latest driver found on Canon's website UFRII_v2.21. Still no luck when I try to add the printer. There's a list of canon drivers that shows up "add printer" dialog box, but the 3380 is not part of that list. Thanks in advance for any input and help!

Based on your posting I believe that you are expecting to see the iR C3380 in the Default Add Printer view. This will not occur with OS X 10.6 because the AppleTalk protocol, which was responsible for making the printer appear in the Default view, is no longer supported on OS X 10.6.
So to add the iR C3380 on OS X 10.6 you will need to use the IP > LPD protocol. This means that the iR C3380 will need to have a valid IP address registered for your network. If you know the IP address then you can add the queue by selecting the IP icon and then changing the menu to LPD. You can then enter the IP address of the iR C3380, leave the queue name blank and then in the Print Using menu, select the "Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II (UK)". -

Acrobat 9 has not been tested and is unsupported Mac Mavericks.
You might face compatibility issues with it.
