PDF non-retrieval using Windows Mail

Directly using Firefox or Internet Explorer to logon access to a website enables download of a PDF. Double-clicking on the URL logon link within a Windows Mail message opens the browser (whichever set as default). However, logon only results in a blank window. I've tried many "can't open PDF" solutions to no avail. OS is Windows 7 (32-bit) and Reader X version 10.1.1 with Flash Player 11 Plug-in.

Well, thats odd...here is the text:
I didn't edit the registry, that's just where I saw the entry. The way I finally fixed it is this:
1. Go to Control Panel (classic view)/Internet Options/Programs Tab and select "Set Programs".
2. Select the last option "Set Program access and computer defaults"
3. Click the double-arrow drop down and go to "Choose Default Email Program"
4. UNCLICK "Windows Mail" even if Thunderbird is selected as the default and be sure Thunderbird's access is enabled.
I had to do this on 3 different computers after a Window update...it infuriated me and I have never been a Microsoft "basher" before but this is just unacceptable! Good luck!

How to use Windows Mail with Firefox

I want to use Windows Mail as my default e-mail program when using Firefox to browse the internet and initiate e-mail messages. How can I get Firefox to use Windows Mail? Right now, it is using Thunderbird, which I do not even have installed on my PC, and it is using the web e-mail Address Book and Sent folder on my ISP's web site, rather than being able to reference the Address Book and Sent folder on my PC.

I use Windows Mail with an email address ending in @btinternet.com.
I also have a BT Yahoo webmail account using the same email address.
As I use Windows Mail most of all I've tended to keep the BT Yahoo Mail account as a "back up".
Recently however I have noticed a few emails reach my BT Yahoo Webmail but do not appear in my Windows Mail inbox.
I was embarrassed recently when an important message fell into this category and I missed it because I only log in to the webmail a couple of times a week.
Does anyone else have this problem, or know why it happens
In every case the messages have been from individuals, not from businesses.
And in the case of one particular individual, a friend in the USA, all his recent messages have gone to the webmail account only and not reached the Windows Mail account.

Hi. Welcome to the forums.
May I ask where these webmail emails appeared ? Were they in the Inbox, or perhaps the Spam folder or another folder you've added ?
Only emails in the Inbox will arrive at Windows Mail. I assume you've set an advanced option within Windows Mail to "leave messages on server", and hence have all of your emails held in webmail ?
It is possible that Windows Mail has a slightly corrupted index, which makes a note of the emails it has last received, and therefore not picked up the new ones. This index can be reset, but you could effectively start receiving all of the emails stored on the mail server again - which could take a long time.

Sateillite A200-1A9: Issue with sending/receiving E-mail using Windows Mail

Using Windows mail I have to close/open the programme to be able to send mails, they get stuck in the Outbox. By closing and reopening the programme the mail gets sent. Also the Blue figure 1 in brackets showning 1 unread mail in the Outbox is there all the time although there is no mails read or unread in the Outbox
Not a server problem as all mails are going/receiving fine on my desktop.
Pressing send and receive button does not help. although some of the time it will receive mails when pressing send/receive but will not send them
I do have Norton Internet security 2007 and am getting fed up with the continuing problems that this seems to cause over the period 2004-7.

It seems that the update of Software Desktop SMS to the newest version will help to sort out this problem.

Elements 11 does not allow me to use Windows Mail to send photos

I used to use element 7 to send photos to my friends, and the program understood that my default server was Windows Mail. I bought a new camera (Nikon D800) which has very large file sizes and Elements 7 could not handle these large files and I was advised by Adobe to buy Elements 11 and this program could handle these large files. The unfortunate thing is that when I tried to send photos to friends, it would not allow me to access my Windows Mail server and only showed Microsoft Outlook or Adobe Mail to choose from. I don't use either of these servers for my e-mails, but now I have this programs that does handle the photos from my new camera and allows me to organize and adjust my photos, but I can't send them to my friends with this program as it does not recognize Windows Mail as my default. how can I fix this!

Want to send PDF as attachement using Java Mail

HI,
I am using Java mail API for sending PDF as attachment. Here is my sample code
messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler("String data for PDF using iText", "text/plain" ));
I am generating String for PDF file using iTEXT but I am unable to find out mimetype for passing into DataHandler as second paramete.
Any idea?

Don't convert the data to String. It isn't text so
you'll damage the binary content by doing that. In
the "demos" directory of your JavaMail download
you'll find a ByteArrayDataSource class you can use
instead of a FileDataSource. Yes, this worked for me. I create the pdf in memory as as StringBuffer and I just changed the code from
messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(pdf.toString(), "application/pdf"));
to
messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(new ByteArrayDataSource(pdf.toString(), "application/pdf")));
and it worked.

Can't send email using Windows Mail (Vista) through Anonymizer proxy server

I have recently installed a new version of Anonymizer which I need for access to a particular forum, but when it is connected I cannot send email. The message I got from Anonymizer support is as follows:
Anonymizer Universal blocks unencrypted mail port 25 to prevent abuse of our service by spammers. If you have an email address set up to use port 25, please contact your mail administrator to use an alternate port. We have found email providers prefer certain ports including 587 and 465. These ports generally require authentication and you may need to change your outgoing mail server to require authentication.
I tried these port numbers but they also gave errors. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I found the thread on port 587 and I followed the advice on the link for Outlook Express.

Windows Mail is slightly different but when I set the outgoing port to 587 without requiring authentication, and it seems to be working OK now. So I'll mark this as solved. This seems to be a major issue since November and it should be in the FAQs and easy to find with a search.

Cannot use Windows mail with PE 12 only shows express or adobe mail

Any suggestions?

windows mail version 6.0 on Vista. PE 12 gives only Express and Adobe as options.

Will not search for a word in pdf file. Using Windows 7

Like most I have used Acrobat reader for viewing PDF files for years. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. I have tried to search a PDF file for a word and it always comes up with none found even though I search for a word that is displayed in the document I'm looking at. Any advice?

How do I create a new folder for saving a PDF in Reader using Windows 8.1?

I used to be able to create a folder in which to save a PDF. With the new Reader in Windows 8.1, I have not found that option.

Wow. The light bulb just went off! I have the Reader that was installed on my HP notebook and - you are right - it is the Microsoft Reader. I just assumed it was Adobe's product which I have used for years. No wonder I can't find the options I generally used.

I have a requirement to send the form as attachment to the multiple addresses maintained.
I want to know the procedure to retrieve all those addresses.
I am aware of the complete procedure of getting the OTF and and converting to PDF and the sending using API function module.

PDF reports sent using MS Mail always named "untitled.txt"

We are using CR for .NET with VS 2005 developing an application that needs to export PDF versions of reports as email attachments. While it works the problem we have is that the attachment is always named "untitled.txt". The attachment actually is a PDF - renaming the extension to "pdf" allows Adobe Reader to open and display the report just fine. Here is the code used to export the report:

I have exactly the same problem. Has anyone come up with a solution? In CR8.5 the attachment was automatically created with the report file name and a pdf extension, which while not perfect was a good deal better than the current situation.

Pdf wont open using windows 8

I have W8 and pdfs will not open. I get and error that directs me to the following link for an update ( http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) but upon download and installation I receive the same error. Please advise, thanks!

Windows mail - Reader cannot find pdf attachment

I receive emails with pdf attachments. I double click the attachment and receive an error message from Adobe Reader that says "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found".
There are no special characters in the pdf title.
The windows mail option "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" is NOT checked.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader.
All help gratefully accepted.

This issue got on my last nerve for three week with the advent of a new Dell One running Vista Ultimate/WIndows Mail and Adobe Pro Extended 9.
I googled and found a post by Greg Hughs; his fix worked like a champ.
Here goes;
Open up Acrobat; click on edit/preferences; choose Internet uncheck display PDF in browser under web browser options.
That's it.
