PDF Not So Secure!?! Software available to modify or remove privilege password security!?!

Hi, I have searched on the web and have encountered an disturbing new.
This site explains the flaw with PDF security:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Adobe/Gallery/PDFsecurity.pdf
The following site claims that they can remove password security embeded in PDF files that prevents people from modifying or copying information within seconds:
http://www.elcomsoft.com/apdfpr.html
Is it still true for the latest version of Acrobat Professional?
If it is true, I think there is nothing protecting my intellectual property.
Is there some other ways I can make sure that they can only view, print, but not modify or copy the contents in my PDF files?
Adobe staffs, please take a look at this closely.

Did you see the warning that you get when setting security in Acrobat?
In Acrobat 8, "All Adobe products enforce the restrictions set by the
Permissions Password. However, not all third party products fully
support and respect these settings. Recipients using such third-party
products might be able to bypass some of the restrictions you set".
So, while disturbing, this isn't really news.
But in any case, Acrobat's password security does nothing really to
protect you from copying. Any file can be copied or shared. If you
want to protect your intellectual property, you have to enter the
controversial and often expensive world of DRM.

Hello. Can I still use the forms central to modify my pdf.-files after the software is not supported by adope?

Formscentral isn't designed to allow for the modification of PDF files, forms or otherwise. If you have saved forms created in Formscentral as PDF you will continue to be able to modify them in a program like Acrobat. Hope this helps.

  • How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary too

How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary tools available online for security breaks and editing of PDF document
I put all the security options but still there are tools to break the security (even password) leading to editing of document
Need to avoid any such situation

If the document is important, and there is something to be gained by modifying it - then someone will just make a new copy of it (e.g. print and scan, screen capture), and make a new document, then change it.
If protecting the integrity of the document - proving it is unchanged - is the thing, look at digital signatures. Forget security, the signed file can be freely edited, but the signature will always show it is changed.

  • I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

  • With SO MUCH photo editing software available, what would be the best for me if I am a digital camera newby? I do not need Photoshop CC! I do not want to spend $700 bucks! My camera is a Nikon D90. Please help.

With SO MUCH photo editing software available, what would be the best for me if I am a digital camera newby? I do not need Photoshop CC! I do not want to spend $700 bucks! My camera is a Nikon D90. Please help.

Where did you come up with the $700 figure?
Photography plan - $9.99/month or $119/year - Creative Cloud Photography plan : Adobe Creative Cloud
    Single App - $19.99/month
Complete plan - $49.99/month or $599/yr - Creative Cloud free trial & plans : Adobe Creative Cloud
Ah - If you wish to cancel early yeah $74.99 which would total for the year at $899.88. But that final total would be if you canceled in the 12th month but if you plan on keeping it that long might as well go for the annual contract. Then cancel at the end of the term limit if you need to.
If you are not sure what to get, Either Elements as was suggested by Peru Bob or the photography plan.

  • HT1600 Apple TV software 6.0 not showing up as available

Apple TV software 6 is not showing up as available to download in settings. Any other way to download?

There have been several posts of failures of updates - Apple may have temporarily removed the update.
    I'd wait.
Your other option would be to connect to iTunes via and restore to current using a microUSB cable, see the restore process:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

  • I have produced DVD using iMovie, now want to download this back to iMovie, will not read DVD, have been told a piece of software available - any chance anybody knows what?

have produced DVD using iMovie, now want to download this back to iMovie, will not read DVD, have been told a piece of software available - any chance anybody knows what?

Handbrake is not ideal for this.
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How to open -pdf in a secure environment

Opening PDF files from a secured account on Internet (e.g. telephone billing info) does not work. in Safe as the file is shown as _pdf (underscore instead of dot).  We suspect this problem started after installing CS6, but are not sure. Win 7, IE 9, Reader XI

PDF on a regular website can be opened and downloaded. However, PDF on a secure website (https) looks normal with normal icon but double click gives screen for open / save / save as. ‘Open’ gives no result, no error message either. ‘Save’ or ‘save as’ shows screen with filename ending on _pdf, which cannot be opened or saved, no error messages either. Changing the filename into .pdf gives the same reaction: nothing happens, no error messages.
The same files can be opened on a different PC win7, IE9, Reader XI and similar software, but without CS6.

  • Add/Remove a password to an individual PDF without navigating entire security process?

Is there a procedure/plug-in/script/utility that will allow me to add/remove a password to a single PDF without creating a batch script?
I create many (dozens) PDF's throughout the course of a a day, either as an export from InDeisgn CS5.5 or via printing to the Adobe Acrobat Converter. I would simply create  watched folders on my desktop to add or remove a password but I haven't found a way to identify security-enabled PDF files without having to open the file.
I have only two scenarios for creating PDF files as it relates to security. The first includes Printing: HIGH RESOLUTION and Changes Allowed: NONE. The second includes Printing: LO-RESOLUTION and Changes Allowed: COMMENTING, ETC.
What would really be great is if there was a script that I could access as a Windows Explorer extension that would allow me to add/remove passwors to one or more selected files. It would even be better if, after enabling password security, I could some identify the security status of a file by it's icon or some other visual manner that didn't effect the name of the file.
I hope I have narrated my situation clearly enough. I look forward to comments or suggestions.

Not possible with Adobe software - Acrobat's context menu in Windows Explorer is not something you can customize or extend, nor can Acrobat or Adobe Reader change the system icon for a file based on the internal structure of the document.

  • Pdfs not opening

Help!  I have a website where I sell documents that are pdfs.  Up until a week or so ago, all was fine.  Now, I am getting emails from customers saying that they are getting messages saying that the file won't open
because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). It seems to be all the documents, not just one or two.  Any insight would be appreciated.

    Pat,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I can't open the file in the text editors I've tried (I have notepad) and I tried stackedit and another online editor. I will continue to try others. Do you know of any that might be better than another?
In the article you provided it says:
    "PDF creators
If you manage or administer software that automatically generates PDFs, modify the way the PDF is produced. Make sure that no extraneous bytes appear before %PDF at the head of the file."
I could re-create the pdfs but I'm not sure what they mean by "modify the way the pdf is produced".  Not sure what that means...

  • Export pdf that is secured

I need to be able to export a pdf that is secured so that a user using Acrobat Pro cannot modify.  I'm using CR2008 and .NET.  Does anyone have suggestions or sample code?
    Thanks,
    Sean

Tim, I just noticed you need to skip keyline so it would be:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5"
    activate
    set myDocument to active document
    tell myDocument
    set docInks to inks
repeat with x from 1 to count docInks
--you can skip an ink via scripting
if is process ink of item x of docInks is false and name of item x of docInks is not "keyline" then
set convert to process of item x of docInks to true
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
