PDF of ai file changing parts of spot color to purple

I work in pre-press for a printing company and we received an Illustrator file (.ai) of a logo. It is one color (Pantone 576). When the file is saved as a PDF and opened in Acrobat 9, some parts of the file are purple on screen and other parts stay 576. All type in the image was converted to outlines and all but one letter of the converted type turns purple. Also, one part of the graphic turns purple.
We did not create the Illustrator file but it looks like part of the image was Live Traced and another part was drawn in Illustrator but I'm not sure and the customer doesent have a clue. There is only one layer in the file and there doesn't appear to be anything hidden. If I open it in Acrobat 8, it looks fine or if it is printed it looks fine.
The image below shows a section of the art that indicates the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

Depending on which program is used to open the file here's what I get
Open with AICS3, It tells me that an new version was used but it will open. Everything is a single color (576) but in preview mode there is a clipping mask around the letter that is the wrong color.
Open in AICS4, There is no clipping mask, everything is one color (576)
Open in Acro 8 and 9, The file is two color with the odd colored letter
Do you have the original AI file to look at?

  • Changing to a spot color in a logo placed in an indesign document

Creating a docement in ID where I have placed a logo created in AI. is it possible to make the logo color a spot color in ID?  I am using CS6 in creative clous on a PC running windows XP.

Why not change it in Illustrator?
Since you're using Creative Cloud you should be aware that the new
applications will not install on Windows XP. The minimum configuration
    is Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.

  • Spot colors now missing in PDF!

Issue: spot color channel not showing up in Photoshop generated PDFs. Worked previously, this just started last week.
Workflow: receive PDF ads from client via email. Open file, usually Jpg, Tiff or PDF, in photoshop CS4. save as PSD, with new name, grayscale, 300 dpi for newspaper printing.
some ads  get spot/PMS color added.  add spot channel. move art from grayscale layer to spot color layer. save file as PSD with spot colors. (for import to InDesign.) Photoshop file looks fine on screen.
for Client proof, Save As "ad proof", turn OFF photoshop editing, so client does not change ad. Turn ON "as a copy", "spot color" and "view PDF".
It worked fine for the past year, now, NOT. The PMS spot channel is not showing on the photoshop generated PDF, If I import the psd file into Indesign, and generate the PDF 1x version, same thing.
Spent 7 hours on phone with tech support, they did not have a clue as to why or what was going on. I have uninstalled, deleted everything Adobe, and spent 7 hours reinstalling CS4.
Newly installed Photoshop not working, same issue. Print to PDF using PDF 9.0 "printer"  not working.
    HELP!

I just had a very similar problem using CS5 Master Suite.
I had a CMYK job (a business card) that needed converting into a spot colour job.
There was a logo in CMYK that was red, blue and black, so I created 3 new channels in Photoshop and separated the colours into each specific channel. I saved the logo as a Tiff file and imported the logo file into Indesign. On-screen it looked fine (black, red, blue) and I could see the new spot colours had imported into the swatches correctly. However, when I exported the Indesign file as a PDF, one of the spot colours was missing (the red one).
So I changed the logo file (Tiff) into a Photoshop file hoping it would fix the bug, but no such luck.
Out of interest, I duplicated the Red channel and repeated my procedure, this time when I made the PDF the blue channel that was there previously disappeared!!!
When I checked the forum and heard that the poor person spent 7 hours with tech support, I thought bugger that, I just saved each channel as a separate Tiff file, dropped the black file onto the logo so that it was in place, then did a Step&Repeat (ie copied a duplicate of the logo ontop of itself), then dropped the new Tiff file on top of that and changed its colour to Red in the Swatches, and did the same with the blue file.
Now I have a PDF file that shows all the different spot colours and I can go home on time tonight.
I could do all this stuff on CS1. The only 'improvements' I have found in CS5 so far is that my beloved 'Variations' option in Photoshop has now disappeared because they couldn't be bothered to create this feature in 64 bit.

  • Convert to Gray scale issue in spot color file

    Hi,
I am having some problem in Acrobat X Pro on Convert to Gray Scale Preflight Fixup, but the same PDF file is working good in Acrobat 9.0 Pro for the same process.
Even I tried with the error report, but there was no error details in that report.
Please help me out to find the reason for that problem. The PDF file is having a spot color.
Please find the RGB and converted Gray image
    Thanks in advance,

    Kumararaja,
You can upload you file  using any public/private FTP and then can embedd the link here.
Or when you click on Edit (in your message division), you get a browse option in the bottom left cornet. That allows upto 8.9MB. The way i attached!!!
    BTW, what's the issue?

  • Ungroup & Change PS spot color channels in illustrator!!

In illustrator, how do you change a photoshop spot color channel that has been imported into illustrator. Ever since Illustrator CS2 you could import a psd into Illustrator and you could ungroup the channels and change the colors. How do you do that in CS3-6? I have been trying to figure this out for years. My old computer with Illustrator 10 is about to die and so will my ability to do what I descried above unless someone can clue me in.
    Thanks!!!

It's not clear what you are having problems with. One would simply flatten the object and colorize the resulting "channels" with tints.

  • Cannot change spot colors to process

Using the Swatch Options feature to change a CMYK spot color to a CMYK process color does not work. I click on the Save button and nothing happens. Cannot change global feature either. Nor does "Delete Swatches" work with multiple selections, or "Merge" Anyone else having this Swatches malfunction?

You can delete multiple swatches and you can merge swatches and if global swatches all instances of that color will change to the new color. If thye new color is cmyk swatch that will be the result for all instances of that color as long as it was applied by the fiormer swatch.
Now the idea of merging multiple swatches does work but all selected swatches mergte to that one swatch.
You might want to look at the Edit>EditColor>Recolor Art Feature.
But it is possible you have something locked on your artwork and that might prevent the change.

  • Maximum of 27 Spot Colors

    Hi,
I work at a printing company.  Everything I know about Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, I learned on the job with no classes or prior knowledge.  I handle all the graphics that come through our shop, and every now and then I get artwork that when I try to save it in Illustrator, I get an error message that says Illustrator can only support a maximum of 27 spot colors.  I don't even know what that means.  Can someone explain to me in normal english what the problem here is, and how I can resolve it?
    Thanks!

Well, logic suggests that there are objects in the artwork that have been assigned various spot colors. Spot colors would correspond to premixed, color-matched inks on press, as opposed to CMYK values. Illustrator is alerting you to the fact that it cannot save a file with more than 27 different spot colors specified.
There is probably a book to write on how amiss someone's workflow has gone, or how clueless they are about production, when they are sending their printer files with 20 or 30-some spot colors. And frankly, I suspect your own workflow is inherently a bit askew as well, as here you are trying to save a file with that many spot colors, although somehow it was saved before it got to you...apparently not in Illustrator. So I can only speculate that the artwork originated in some other application, perhaps arriving at your desk in PDF...(?)
Resolve it? You're a long way from the true roots of the problem, but if all you need is to save the file without getting an argument from Illustrator, try this:
    Select all.
Choose Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK
    Save.
Disclaimer: the colors you print may not meet the expectations of the person who produced the artwork. Of course, it sounds like that could be the case with or without the conversion.

  • Creating Spot color in InDesign CS4, js

    myColor = myDoc.colors.item("EMBOSS");
    myName = myColor.name;
    catch (e){
    myColor = myDoc.colors.add({name:"EMBOSS", model:ColorModel.SPOT,

But the color created still process. How do I change it to spot color.
    Thank you.

Never mind, it's working. I just had old colors still not deleted.

  • How can I convert CMYK PDF file to Spot Color from a standard Spot Library?

    Hi,
I have PDF file that is in CMYK colors. Can I use Adobe Pro X to convert the document to Spot Color from a established spot library like the PANTONE PC? Is there a plugin to do it?
    Amit.

In method HMAC, you have towards the bottom
    catch(Exception e) {}please change this to
    catch(Exception e)
                e.printStackTrace();
}Note that using the sun.* classes, including the sun.misc.BASE64Encoder class, requires elevated privileges (see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=483223&messageID=2255882).
It is not difficult to write your own encoder/decoder class, or borrow one from someone else. Just google on "java base64 encoder".

  • Should the print company I use be able to change a file to spot color for me?

I recently sent a document in to a major print company to have a folder printed.  The document was created in Illustrator using only two colors. They said they could not print it because it was still more than two colors and that I needed to change it to a two color document using Pantone Spot Color.
I've never had to do that for a print company before but I've also never had a two color project before. I opened the file back up and selected my objects and "recolored" the work and deleted all the swatches aside from the two colors I needed that were now Pantone Spot Color (HSB). It literally took me 2 minutes.
The reason I am asking is because they pretty much said that I don't know what I'm doing, which to a designer is completely insulting.  We all do new things from time to time but that is an insult. Shouldn't they, a large print company with years of experience, know how to do this for me? They had the original design file.. Maybe they don't know what they are doing?
Any clarity on as to why I needed to do it and not them is greatly appreciated.  Also.. any direction as the best way to use spot color over cmyk is appreciated too.

...which to a designer is completely insulting...
What's so special about "a designer"?
Prior to the mid 1980s, designers could get away with prima Donna attitudes, because they (or their employers) were paying pre-press "color houses" around $350 per hour to tweak colors to sooth their oh-so-erudite discernment and hyper-developed color sensitivities, and to gain reimbursement for the $100 per plate lunches on proof-check days.
That all changed when designers (and their employers) got tired of paying those fees and took on the responsibility for the technical side of assembling their designs into something printable. That was the so-called "desktop revolution" and "revolution" was not a bad word for it. It turned a huge industry on its head. Color houses which didn't adopt PostScript devices and workflows were soon dropping like flies--and so were designers who didn't climb down off their lofty pedestals and buckle down to learning the technical realities of what they were doing.
Don't be insulted, but the simple fact is, you still don't know what you're doing if you think converting any given process color job to a two-spot job is "just a couple of minutes' work." Only in the very simplest designs would it be as simple as re-defining a couple of process Swatches as spot color Swatches.
In Illustrator in particular, doing so won't even work if the original Swatches were not originally defined as Global Swatches.
If those two process Swatches were used in any Blends, converting them to spot will likely not update the intermediate steps of the Blend. In earlier versions of Illustrator, the same problem applied to grads.
You can often get away with not having properly trapped the file with process swatches, because there are potentially four component inks which may be shared between adjacent different-color objects. Spot inks are not so forgiving. Trapping is essential if the two spot colors touch.
So you really expect a printer to just have a policy to do that for you? And thereby bear responsibility for anything they may misinterpret or overlook that may cause a registration sliver on press and thereby loose every bit of profit on the printing (which these days is cut-throat competitive)?
No. It's your responsibility to build the file correctly. The printing houses I use know better. They know I would have a coniption fit if I ever caught them modifying one of my files. They know they are to return any problem file to me for correction.

I have pdf file with 500 pages created from AutoCad file. In all pages, I have different document numbers. The file is not editable in pdf. How to change all the document numbers using "Comment" feature? Any alternate method?  alternate method? I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Windows -7 platform.

Yes, I just want to cover up all the pages for those particular area of document numbers.
Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

  • When I drag pdf files into iBooks Author, the background in the pdf file changes into the colour of my book (brown/beige)?

    Hi,
when I drag a pdf file (when working in Preview) into iBooks Author, the background colour in the pdf file changes into the background colour of the book.
This happens not consistently, sometimes the background of the pdf file does not change (and stays white), sometimes it's like the text in the pdf file is 'lifted' of the file, and put on the page in iBooks Author (with a brown/beige background).
All the pdf files are scanned pdf's, nothing comes out of Pages, Word, Excel,...
    Anybody?
    Thanks a lot!
    Wouter

I have the same question (posted here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25644741#25644741).
I believe this is because the PDFs have transparent backgrounds. As far as I can tell, the only way to fix it is to export the PDF as another file, such as an image file. Or perhaps convert it to Word and import it that way.

  • Problem exporting file with spot colors to pdf

I have a book which I designed in InDesign CS3. It has 150 images in it which are Photoshop eps files: black line drawings with a spot color fill. InCS3, when I needed to send files back and forth to the publisher, the eps files came out fine in any pdf I made. Now in CS5.5, no matter what I do, only the spot color shows up in the images -- their black outlines won't show up. I'm sure it's got something to do with settings of some kind but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Help!

I'm viewing the pdf in Acrobat Pro X. I do see that if I turn Flattener Preview on, I can see the whole image in a separate preview box, but that's not going to work very well when I send it to an editor who is technologically challenged. Is there not a way to ake the pdf behave the way it does if I make it from CS3, where the flattening shows in the pdf by default? As it is, this seems like a step backwards, unless of course, there's something I am missing.

  • Changing images (and text) in InDesign file to spot color.

Hi, Im trying to create a two color job in InDesign that will be black and red. The problem I have is that our imagesetter is not separating the colors.
I was told that the red color needs to be a spot color in InDesign for the imagesetter to know to separate the colors. Otherwise, if the colors are not set as a spot color then it sends the file as CMYK separations or grayscale separations.
The question I have is how can I change the images (and text) in my InDesign file to be set as a spot color? Thanks in advance.

Please re-ask your question in the ID forum:

No, there isn't. The way you're using the file is not recommended. You
should use a review tracker to avoid getting in the way of one another.
