Create a DVD with buttons to open the .pdf file with adobe Encore ?
Dear all !
I would like to create a DVD or a CD-Rom support with an interactive menu and buttons which allow us to open some files in.pdf.
It will be a conference DVD with all presentations in. pdf, contact list in .xls file, etc.
Is it possible to create such a DVD with adobe Encore ?
Thank you in advance.
Sév from France. You could look around for "eDVD." Going back, it was being developed by Sonic, but they dropped it because of issues with Vista. About every 6 - 8 mos., some little tid-bit comes out, that the code has been bought and someone is working on it.
Also, Encore CS5 seems to have added some interactivity elements in BD, but I have only seen some bullet points, and zero details. Since Jeff did not make mention of CS5, my guess would be that the interactivity might not have been what you need - or enough details have not been released yet for any of us to know for sure. The full details will be available very soon though.
Good luck, and hope that whoever did acquire the code from Sonic IS on their way, as this is an oft requested feature.

Can I use Encore to make a menu for PDF files?
I'm looking for software that allows interactive menus to categorize/display about 200 PDF files. I've heard Encore will let you make menus for DVDs with submenus, etc., but will it work for non-video subject matter? It is to be produced on a CD/DVD and used as a fundraiser for a nonprofit. Thanks!
Your problem is going to be getting a pdf onto a static menu or a still for a slide - and still be readable. Is playback going to be on computer or TV?
In photoshop, copy a pdf into an Encore menu (as the background) See if it looks okay.
I suspect that your fantasy is that the user "opens" the pdf and it acts like a pdf does in reader, you can scroll, etc. That just won't work. -
Blue screen of death on Toshiba P755-S5375 with ADOBE ENCORE CS6
I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6. I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray. For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6. After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore. About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD). This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD). I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.
I am using Encore version 6.0.0.492
Here are the blu-ray drive specs:

We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

To givingupusa - a simple Encore Tutorial
To givingupusa - a simple Encore Tutorial
I have CS5, so you need to go slowly to be sure you find the correct commands for your
version of Premiere Pro and Encore
This is for DVD only, since I don't do BluRay
Verify these steps with the book or PDF or help file!
Go past this tutorial exercise for links to online Tutorials
Even if you have a later version, this is a good book to learn Encore
http://www.amazon.com/Focal-Easy-Guide-Adobe-Encore/dp/0240520041/ref=sr_1_1?
This note is written specifically for "givingupusa" who can't get Dynamic Link to
ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277266925
work... but, of course, anyone who is learning may find this to be helpful
Do your editing in Premiere Pro... do NOT use Dynamic Link (this exercise is to be sure
that you may create a file that Encore will use, and that Encore will, in fact, open
properly and actually use that file)
If you are editing HD, read this
Tutorial HD to SD w/CS4 http://bellunevideo.com/tutorials/CS4_HD2SD/CS4_HD2SD.html
This is just a test, so you don't need anything fancy or long in Premiere... a file (or
two?) totalling 10 minutes to as much as half an hour is all you need (keep this test
short, so you find out "quickly" if things work, or not)
When you are done editing, make sure you have selected to export the entire timeline,
then export to either DV NTSC (or Pal) Widescreen or DV NTSC (or Pal) if you are
editing 4:3 video
File-Export-Media... then, on the lower left, select Source Range of Entire Sequence
Upper right select Format Microsoft AVI then just below that Preset select NTSC DV
Widescreen (or PAL DV Widescreen) for widescreen material (if you have been editing
HiDef source) or NTSC DV (or PAL DV) if you have been editing SD material that is in
the 4:3 pixel ratio
Output Name will show a default of Sequence 01.avi which you double click to change to
a file name (and location) of your choice
Export Video and Export Audio are both checked by default... do not change that
Make NOTE of what it says after Output and Source... for this test, going from HD Flip
to DV AVI, mine says
Output 720x480, 29.97 [fps], Lower, Quality 100 - 48000 Hz, Stereo, 16 bit
Bottom right click Export... a window will pop up with a title of "Encoding Sequence
01" with a progress bar in the window... exit from Premiere when done
The result will be a FileName.AVI file (of course, FileName is YOUR actual file name
that you selected) which has video and sound all in one file
Find the Encore program icon that was created when you installed Premiere Pro and
Encore... double click the icon to start Encore... or, if you can't find a program
icon, click START - All Programs and then find Encore in the appropriate Adobe program
group
When Encore starts, select New Project and give it a name and location, and be sure the
DVD option is checked
Make NOTE of the Transcode Settings on this New Project Screen (NOTE that if you exit
from this project and come back to it later, you would select the project name you just
created, instead of New Project)
If your AVI file is large enough that you are going to do a dual layer DVD, Right Click
the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator (or you WILL have an Encore error!)
Make sure you are in the PROJECT panel (look on the upper left) and then File — Import
As - Timeline, and select your AVI File
In the lower right Library panel, use the Set: General, and Drag an appropriate Blank
Menu or Blank Menu WIDE to the Project Panel
In the Project panel Right Click the Menu and set as First Play
In the Flowchart panel in the center of the screen, Drag the AVI and drop it on the
Menu
While in the Properties panel on the upper right, click the AVI file once to set the
focus, then set AVI End Action to Return to Last Menu
Back in the center, with the menu selected, you will a wide button with text (mine
always defaults to Party Highlight 1 for some reason) which is the link from the menu
to play the video
Right Click and Rename (if you wish, figure out on your own how to move this command
button to a different location)
On the top left, select the Build panel
Click the Check Project and then Start in the popup window, and NOTE and fix any errors
3 main Output options are DVD Disc (to go direct to a DVD) or DVD Folder to create the
DVD file structure on your hard disk or DVD Image to create an ISO for later burning to
a DVD
I normally build an ISO and use the FREE Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/index.php? to have more control over the burning settings (burn at the slowest speed
act=download
possible for a better burn) use Verbatim or Tayio Yuden discs (Change the ISO’s Name
via the Browse function)
For this test, I will use DVD Folder and create the DVD folder on my hard drive so I
may then play the DVD from that folder without burning a disc... only do this if you
have a DVD player installed... otherwise, burn to DVD to test at a TV
Even Empty the DVD-ROM says it uses 526k – for the "usual" overhead
Last step is to actually build the ISO File or Folder... I used H: for the folder (you
will, of course, use a drive letter appropriate to your computer setup)
After Encore finished, I used WinExplorer to find the VIDEO_TS folder, which (for my
short test) contained
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
When I double clicked on VIDEO_TS.VOB my DVD player was activated, and the menu came up
on screen, where I could click the name I gave my movie... and the movie began to play
If you do not have this result... report back with all the NOTES you made and with any
error messages
If you are able to create a DVD this way... give up on Dynamic Link and use this
process
Now, some general information about Premiere Pro and Encore

If Encore will not burn a DVD for any reason, write an ISO image to hard drive and then
use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or

Blue screen of death when building blu-ray in Encore CS6

Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help -
Is it Possible to Transfer Movies from VHS and HI8 to DvD via Encore?
I have been trying to figure out a way to transfer my inlaws' home videos from VHS tapes and HI8 8mm tapes to my computer to burn them to DVD. I have been unsuccessful so far. I thought about just taking them to a transfer place, but there are roughly 30 tapes and I need 6 copies of each one. Any thoughts, recommendations, or links to helpful threads would be appreciated.
I don't know what format/resolution to transfer from into the computer or what will work best to burn out to DvD.
I have been told that I can't transfer directly into FCE without a firewire port (which this computer does not have) so I have been using a MyGica iGrabber to transfer files in.

Thanks,
TaylorEncore does not do video capture, that would be Premiere Pro via Firewire
A model 55 at http://www.grassvalley.com/products/converters is one way from external to computer, and creates the DV AVI files you need for PPro editing
If you don't need to edit the files at all, those DV AVI files may be used by Encore for DVD authoring
I know nothing about the device you mention... what kind of files does it create?

Print out of Encore DVD Flowchart
I'm asking out of pure curiosity's sake.
Is it possible to get a print out of an Encore DVD flowchart? Obviously one could be made in either Illustrator or Photoshop, but it could be helpful to get a print out of a ready made flowchart.Without going the raster-image routes, mentioned above, I know of no direct print function. I will usually do my flowcharts in AI, as I can have so much more control that way, and can even plug in graphics of the Menus, so that the client can see things cleanly, and can sign off on the Project.
I know that is not as easy as just pushing a button, and generating an 11 x 17 high-rez PDF, which would be great, but I do not know of any other ways.
Good luck,

Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software
Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software. I use Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 to assist me when I add comments to a PDF. I also use it when making additions or changes to text. When I use the two software programs together, Acrobat constantly crashes. If it doesn't crash, an error occurs trying to save the file. I entered 988 comments into a 158-pg PDF, only to find the file was corrupted and couldn't be printed. I also could not see the list of comments (click Show Comments).
These problems do not occur if I don't use both products simultaneously.Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr. Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project. Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

Can I expect a video to be in high resolution in an interactive PDF?
Can I expect a video to be in high resolution in an interactive PDF?
I’m doing a project in which I want to burn a music video and a image portfolio. The images look very good when exported but the video stutters and is pixelated. Can I expect the video to look as good as if I would burn it in Encore for example? Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry, should have said that. I'm using CS5.5
Thing is, this is going to be a promotion DVD with the video and some pictures. I heard about the interactive PDF and liked the way I could build it like a portfolio, the way you can click through the images
and click to see the video.Everything looks good except the video.
I tried to do this in Encore but there I got bad image quality and good video quality. In InDesign I get bad video quality and good image quality.
My video is made in Premiere pro so maybe I should check the media encoder.
But, with the project I want to do, what program would you suggest? -
.PDF files in DVD ROM content
I am using a Mac and Encore CS4. I am trying to include a .pdf file as DVD ROM content. Whenever I try this, all .pdf files are "grayed out" and I can't use them. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro are both installed on the computer. I can read .pdf files outside of Encore.
Any help would be appreciated. To add to Ruud's comment. When adding DVD-ROM content (Build tab; about half way down), you cannot add files; you must add folders. But you can have anything you want inside the folder.
If you really want the file at the root of the DVD (i.e. not in a folder), build from Encore to a DVD folder without the file(s). Then use ImgBurn, add the Video_TS folder and any other files, then burn. I've never done this before, so I did a quick test (but I am CS3). Such a disk plays as a DVD in a set top DVD player and on a PC through wmp, and, on the PC, I can open the file from the disk. -
Encore wants to re-transcode my MPEG-2 file
Hi,
I'm just starting out with encore CS3 on a Mac platform (OSX 10.4.11) and have a problem importing assets for Bluray authoring.
I followed the instructions in a Adobe pdf (bluray_workflow_guide_with_fcp.pdf: which explains how to create Bluray compliant Mpeg-2 files in Apple's compressor), but when I import these files into encore, they are still marked with 'untranscooded'. I have tried different exports with different settings but nothing helps. Has somebody come across this problem or does someone have a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Erik BulckensThe authoring itself is possible. It can be done (and is also being promoted as such) in Encore.
Also there is a possibility to burn simple Bluray discs (or even normal DVD discs with Bluray content that play on Bluray players) in Toast 10.
Thanks... -
How can I get access to Encore 2.0
Jeff, I have tried to contact support several times about this problem, and every time they send me back to the forum, even after I link them to this post, and send them this excerpt from above: "If the software title you have purchased is affected by the activation server being shut down, but is not available for download in the previously referenced pages, then please contact our support team at http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html."
I have Production Studio Premium (which is not available for download), but I downloaded all the components that were available and got them installed (after finding some alternate installation instructions), however, Encore DVD 2.0 is not available!
Others have posted about this too, with no response (see the original thread). Where can I go to download or activate Encore DVD 2.0 or Production Studio Premium?Well Jeff, the latest is:
This venture into Support is in addition and after the transcript above...An Adobe person rang, I went through the whole explaination, everything again.
Got the speech about 'CS2 cannot be activated, the server shutdown etc... then shown to the CS2 download page, told to download Encore from there... I pointed out that Encore was not there. A long wait, a very long wait then I was told something like 'Encore is part of Creative Suite Production Studio Premium', I said "Umm, Yes, that is what I've got." that is what I say at every oppertunity 'Creative Suite Production Studio Premium'.
Using Adobe Connect he rummaged through my PC...he started CCleaner without asking me first - which is a real, real nono. I thought Adobe Connect 'shared my screen' facility only allowed him to see my screen not use my PC, move the cursor and run programmes otherwise it wouldn't have happened. And will not happen again.
Anyway, eventually he said Encore was in VCS2.zip, asked me to download VCS2.zip....as it was taking some time, 45min accoring to the dialogue box so I suggested he rang back in an hour, when the download had finished...and to be honest I was not happy having someone with the ability to remotely use my PC hanging about for an hour...I really have no idea what other facilites that programme has so was I really, really glad he agreed to ring back in an hour, that was about 2hrs ago.
VCS2.zip has finished downloading I've opened it and found its the 'Total Training' video.... so no wonder he hasn't rung back.
Just a thought, what is in CS_2.0_WWE_Extras_2.exe mentioned in the table at http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/magic/creativesuite/CS2_EOL/MLTI/CS2_install_Win.pdf....because that is not on the CS2 download page. Encore DVD 2.0 maybe?
I've just realise a problem...the name of the suite...I keep on saying I have 'Creative Suite Production Studio Premium' on the sticker where the serial number is it says 'Video Suites Premium'...is that confusing everyone when the serial number is asked for? -
Encore for Windows: "additional files" not shown in Mac
Hi!
I'm developing the authoring of a DVD using Encore (legal) CS4 for Windows. In the DVD there will be additional files (some PDF) that are correctly burned to the DVD with Encore. The resulting DVD has two folders: "FIles" and "TS_VIDEO".
In Windows I can perfectly read the PDF files under the Files folder, but in Mac, this folder appears, but it's empty. In both systems the DVD part (menus and movies) works fine.
Any help would be very appreciated!
Regards from Spain!Welcome to the forum.
It sounds as though the Mac is not seeing the ROM Content on your disc. I wonder if the file naming convention (most often, the file extensions are not used on the Mac, but a "finder" file is used instead) is getting in the way. As I am a dyed-in-the-wool PC-user, I cannot tell you what the Mac-fix will be, but I will bet that Mac users, who do ROM content can.
It might well be that rather than use Encore for the full production, including the ROM Content, you will need to do the authoring in Encore, Burn to Folder, construct the folder with both Mac & PC content (maybe two different folders?), and then use a program like the great, free burning utility, ImgBurn, to burn the VIDEO_TS folder (and files), and then the ROM content.
This is just a guess, but I've had content on discs disappear if I have MacDrive (a PC utility for reading and using Mac content) running and insert a PC DVD/CD. I would guess that similar might happen with PC ROM Content and it's viewed on a Mac.
Good luck, and hope that a Mac user will chime in to tell us if I am correct, or totally wrong.

How do I automatically create additional chapter menus in Encore
I have built a menu in Photoshop. It has four window frames which will represent the chapters from 1 - 4 and will be motion menus. I have brought it into Encore CS4 and verified that it will work. I am able to select each window which are labeled Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4. I am also able to link each window to a chapter in my timeline, render it, and each window does show motion video correctly.
What I am now trying to do, is to add additional menus for the remaining chapters of the video. I am unable to figure out how to do this without going back to Photoshop and creating a new menus which show the additional chapters, and then bringing them into encore as additional menus.
From what I have read, it seems that encore is supposed to be able to do that for me automatically. One of the ways I tried was to go to the menu section and try to create a menu index, and when I click on that, I get a window that opens up and a window opens up which says "The chapter index could not be created because the current menu does not contain any chapter buttons." Perhaps I am not understanding that message correctly. When I select the different chapter areas on the menu, a selection window does surround that area. I thought that indicated that this area was a button. Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?Hi Bill,
Thank you. I will use your procedures, however h
ere is the place where I read about the automation I was attempting. Am I reading it wrong about what I can do with this procedure? It appears to allow me to take my original menu and using the steps shown, Encore will create additional menus and links all my additional chapter points.

It is the first article shown in this PDF document. The second page shows the procedure I was attempting. It is the second paragraph titled "Automate Chapter Button Creation". Terry
