PDF on iPad air

Hi, I recently got the iPad air and am using it for schoolwork. The only problem I have run into is when trying to get assignments 2 pages or less off safari there isn't the option to open the PDF file in another application. I have checked other PDF files on the same site and other sites but the only ones that allow me to open them in different applications are more than 3 pages long. If this can be fixed in an update please do so

On my iPad i see the option to open in... On any PDF no matter if it has only 1 or 2 pages or more.
Try quitting Safari then doing the rest.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • How do you sync PDFs between iPad air 2 and iPhone 6 plus in iBooks?

I Have read the manual. Tried iCloud, options in iBooks and airdrop. Can't seem to do it. I finally emailed the PDFs to myself. i don't want to email all my PDFs to myself. There must be a better way.

I store things like PDFs in a DropBox account. They're then accessible from pretty much any device. On my iPad, I use PDF Expert for viewing and editing PDFs.

  • My PDFs disappeared from iBooks after upgrading to iOS 8 on iPad Air

I've just upgraded my iPad air to iOS 8, via iTunes, and restore process. I had a fresh backup, so my iPad has all on it just as before except my PDFs in iBooks. There are just the purcheses in it. Is there any way to get my files back?

All; I had the same exact issue and there is a quick remedy for this which I'll outline below. Even the Senior level tech at Apple was unaware of this and I figured it out myself.
Once your iPhone is connected to iTunes and docked to your Mac, you'll note that there exists a tab, 2nd from right in iTunes 11.4 named 'Books.'
Select this tab and you'll note all of your purchased books and PDF's you've previously chosen to reside in iBooks app on iOS devices are displayed as a mirror image of what actually resides in your iBooks App that by default should result in your doc on the Mac. You must SELECT all or check individually each respective book or PDF document that you wish to sync with and reside on your iOS device.
Just as is the case with Music or Photos you may elect to manage your library of books and apps MANUALLY. In my case there are certain apps I know I want on my iPhone; conversely, there are apps I want to reside ONLY on my iPad and NOT on my iPhone 6. So this is how you control and manage this aspect of the "iBooks" app or program . It's easy!
    Good luck!

  • Ipad air will not open pdf file in Safari iOS 7.03

When downloading pdf from a website my old ipad used to open it then I could click and select open with iBooks, my new ipad air just crashes safari and never downloads it

I had a similar problem which I fixed by removing Restrictions I had put on my iPad to Limit adult content.
Once turned off, I could view PDFs within the Safari browser.

  • IBooks on iPad air doesn't work, enables to save pdf

I bought iPad Air, 3 days ago, I backuped from my old iPad, all the softweres are new (latest version of ios and iBook at today). The problem is that iBooks library looks empty, any file (neither PDFs nor books). when I'm on safari I open the pdf on ibooks, it works, but then if I go to library, or reopen the app, anything is in there; if I connect the iPad to my MacBook looks like the files are in there but any actions is permitted. I tried almost everything: delete files and restore; delete app and reinstall; close the app reset the iPad and reopen; refresh from preference...anything! I'm stuck, any helps will be appreciate.

    Same problem here!
When I googled the problem there is a complex fix involving deleting the app both on iPad and Mac... Have not tried it yet!

  • Mime attachments from email not opening in PDF only on iPhone 5 ok not on iPad Air

anyone know why  when sending email from outlook the iPhone 5 s seems to open attachment as mime and the PDF but the iPad Air doesn't open with PDF

Would you describe your problem in more detail?  What is the mail app you use on your iPad Air?  Apple Mail (the default mail app for iOS)?
"the iPad Air doesn't open with PDF"
When does it fail to open on your iPad Air?  Do you see the PDF attachment icon in an email message in your mail app?  What happens when you try to long press (press & hold) on the icon? Can you actually select "Open in Adobe Reader"?
Unless Adobe Reader is the one showing an error message (e.g. "invalid PDF") when you try to open a PDF attachment, it sounds like Adobe Reader (app) is not directly involved.
Could you also try to open an email with a PDF attachment in other iOS apps like Outlook Web Access (OWA), Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.?

  • I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel.  I have an email with an excel attachment.  When I "tap to download" the attachment, it auto converts to a PDF file.  I want it to open in excel.  Please help.

I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel.  I have an email with an excel attacment.  When I "tap to download" the attachment, it automatically converts to a PDF file and opens as a "view only" document.  I want it to open with the excel app so I can see and update the spreadsheet.  Please help.  Thanks!

If Excel works as do other apps, you should be able to tap and hold on the attachment and then select "Open in Excel" in the window that will open. Note that you need to be subscribed to and signed into Office 365 to be able to edit documents in Microsoft's apps.

  • IPad Air- PDFs in Safari are black pages. How can I read them?

I've had my iPad Air a month, and couldn't open PDFs in Safari; they appeared as black pages. I downloaded Adobe Reader from the App store, but it made no difference. The advice given here all seems to relate to Mac OS, not iOS. The iPad is my only computer. I have deleted the Adobe Reader,  and I tried another free PDF reader, but the black pages persisted, so I deleted that reader too. PLEASE.PLEASE PLEASE can somebody help me read PDFs in Safari? Adobe were no help; there's nothing about PDFs in 'iPad for Dummies' or in the iPad User Guide. I'm at my wits end!

I did a reset, after deleting Adobe Reader AND iBooks, and then downloaded iBooks again from the App Store. This was on the advice of an Apple support advisor, who thought that the Adobe Reader was interfering with the  native iBook's ability to read the PDFs. THIS WORKED! Suddenly I could see PDFs and had a toolbar with 'open in ' options!
I hadn't realised that iBooks was Apple's own PDF reader, so I had thought that I needed to get Adobe Reader in order to see PDFs.
It does beg the question as to why things aren't explained better in user guides and manuals. Couldn't even find info on PDFs in 'iPad for Dummies'.
Anyway, thank you for the suggestion; it was certainly on the right track.

  • PDFs files not opening on iPad air 2?

Pdf's and some photos do not download on new iPad air 2
i think others are having the same problem
    does AppLe care?

This is an Acrobat User 2 User forum. We may have an opinion about Apple but we are not official spokespersons for Apple or Adobe.
Make sure you have an app installed that can handle the file trying to be processed.
Acrobat forms cannot be processed by all apps that can open a PDF.

  • I just downloaded iOS 8 on my iPad air. This has caused the file names of all of my PDFs in iBooks to revert to their original file name when I downloaded the file, not the custom file names I gave them after downloading the files. In the list of fil

PDF file names changed with iOS 8

    Further to above
    Progress Notable!
But before I outline the details, I wish to apologise to APPLE for laying the blame at their doorstep for loosing or misplacing those PDFs I have on the iPad 1, when I set up my iPad Air , by restoring from the backup of iPad 1, thus copying all data from the old to the new.
NOT REALLY THEIR FAULT AT ALL
Because a lot of the many PDFs had the same name, ie PDF.pdf, probably my fault more than anybody else's, so I can't blame APPLE for that. Just goes to show one should be a little more precise in creating these portable documents.
No wonder the poor program " lost its' marbles" when doing the updating and conversion/transfer.
However, I was able to recover most of them by personal email, and extracting and RENAMING the PDFs as I located them in their new home.
Those PDFs that we're locked an thus not email-able , I will deal with by
    Viewing
Photoeing (if that's how you spell it).
And re-building the PDF from the photos, in unlocked format, after transferring these files either by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, from the old to the new iPad.
So all is not lost, and I am thankful that my cautious approach to this matter in the first place, gave me the ability for this successful recovery.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I hope this little story of my saga/experience may prove helpful to others yet to cross the chasm of updating.
    Regards to all, including APPLE.
    NICE STUFF YOU MAKE.

  • Canot email in pdf from pages + keynote with iPad air

I can't email à document in PDF from pages and keynote with iPad air. I reset the iPad an it don't work

Can you mail the files in any other format at all? Did you try emailing a Pages file as a Pages file or as a Word doc?
OK. My response was too late. If you can email them in another format, I don't see how the problem could be with the mail app, but I suppose it's possible anyway. I know that you restored the iPad, and this should help, but try resetting all settings.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but all of your settings will have to be entered again.

  • Does iPad Air 2 open PDF files in Safari?

Does iPad Air 2 open PDF files in Safari? Having trouble doing so.

As JimHdk stated, all iOS devices do a great job of opening standard PDFs right in Safari.  Note that it is possible for PDF authors to create non-standard PDFs in Adobe Acrobat that will NOT open in Safari but it would be unusual for those PDFs to be posted on a public web site.
Lastly, note that by doing a tap-and-hold on a link for PDF, you can choose to open the PDF in iBooks as well.  This is very helpful if you want to retain a local copy of the PDF on the iOS device for later reference.
What happens when you try to open the PDF in Safari?
