PDF only opening in Foxit App

I have a Physics PDF that only opens on Foxit PDF. It won't open on Adobe, Skim, Preview, or anything except Foxit PDF (previous Windows Laptop) and on the Foxit PDF app that is available on the iPad.
I've been googling but can't find a way to fix it. If anyone knows the answer, would you mind explaining to me at least why it will only open in Foxit. Whenever I try a different application it says the file is corrupted. But it's perfectly fine on Foxit.
I recently started using a MacBook Air so I wanted to start reading/annotating my PDF's with Skim instead of the iPad because I type faster on the laptop. But Foxit isn't Mac compatible (Or at least I have no idea how to install it the intense power user way if that exists) so it's a bummer.
Tried splitting the PDF on PDFSam but PDFSam detected it as corrupted as well.
Thanks!

And ...... I must be terribly stupid because I swear this didn't work ages ago but in depseration I opened the file on my iPad Foxit app and then chose to open it in GoodReader who fixed the corrupted file and now everything is fine.

  • PDF only opens in one install of Std 7.1.0, nothing else at all

The business I work for has received a PDF from a customer, that is a version 1.3 file created using PDF-Xchange, and the PDF only opens on one computer in the whole of the business which is running Acrobat Standard 7.1.0.
On all other computers it will not open and Acrobat states that it is damaged. I've attempted to open it on other computers also running Std 7.1.0 with no success, and on my own which is running Pro 9.3.2.
How on earth is the PDF able to open on just this single computer and no others, no matter what software they are running ?.
    Thanks.

Thank you both for the replies.   The install had gone well up to step 29 of the process.  I made sure I read the notes closely and applied everything that was needed for the install on V6R1.
Like Luis stated, I realized what was happening with the password because we did find that message in the system history log.   To make a long story short, we have '/usr/sap/trans' on a separate LPAR on our 570 and needed to create the <SID> profiles on that LPAR and grant them authority to the needed transport directories.   What happened though is once I did that I changed the passwords on both systems to match and didn't take into account the install process had the password we installed in the preliminary steps of the install stored somewhere.   So after changing both LPAR's <sid>adm password to the install defined password, all went well.
Again thank you so very much.  Much karma to both of you.

  • Using browser javascript to copy selected text from a pdf file opened in Air app.

I have posted this question on reader forum as well, but I think it is more suited here...
I am trying to create a note-taking application in air. I want to extract selected text from pdf file as a string object or to the clipboard.
Obviously, all pdfs in my local storage will not be scripted to recieve postMessages and act accordingly, and that is not practical either. So, my problem is, how can I copy the selected text in the pdf file (opened as an object in htmlloader within my Air app) to clipboard or directly in another control by say clicking a button in air application? I suppose, this is possible using javascript, however, I don't know which reader methods are exposed to the wrapper htmlloader control. In short, I want to execute app.execMenuItem("Copy") command through htmlloader javascript. Any alternate solutions are also welcome.
This is similar to passing inbuilt commands/methods/functions (of adobe reader) to pdf-reader plugin embedded in a webpage via javascript. This is possible in IE where the pdf is rendered as activex object, and hence JSObject interface of pdf document/reader is accessible to the browser javascript. I have also read that this same JSObject is accessible to VB as interface for IAC, so as the Air is Adobe's own product, I was wondering if equivalent of JSObject is accessible to htmlloader control as well.
    Thanks in advance...

Thank you Thom for your reply...
    from
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/javascript.html
...Through JavaScript extensions, the viewer application and its plug-ins expose much of their functionality to document authors, form designers, and plug-in developers...
As it is explicitly mentioned, that the functionality of adobe reader are exposed for plugin development, I thought someone here might have used external javascript to execute some safe methods in adobe reader. The functionality (i.e. external javascript interface-JSObject) is already available for VB programmers to develop IAC. Further, the Acrobat SDK example called "AcroPDFinHML" shows how one can embed a pdf-reader in a html page and execute some safe methods (like gotonextpage(), zooming etc.) in IE as ActiveX plugin. I have checked it myself for adobe reader 9, and it works perfectly, so there is no security issue as such to implement the same for another browser (like in my case, the htmlloader control in flex/air app).
I intend to create a note taking application in air, where it is very much required that I should be able to copy selected text from various pdf documents, that are open in my app, and subsequently paste/collect/save the collected notes and process them afterwords (offcourse, from the pdfs that allow me copying text). However, it is not happening for me here. As the pdfs are opened through adobe reader plugin, it does not register the copy command executed by my air app. It registers the system level copy command (by keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C), but my air app has no way to execute the system level copy command programmatically. So I am kind of stuck here...
Thanks again for your reply. Having known what am I intend to accomplish, any other (may be alternative) solutions will be appreciated nonetheless...

  • PDF only open the first time

    HI
I have a problem with the PDF export, of any type of document; the situation is complicated in the case of documents which provide for the printing of batches of transactions. Let me give an example.
I open a delivery customers and I click on the icon PDF: SAP opens the pdf of Transactions batch and then the standard form of delivery; simultaneously saves both pdf folder of images.
If, once closed the pdf, I click again icon PDF (or after creating a new document), SAP only opens the transaction reports; the report of delivery is not open on the screen but is only saved in the attachments.
In order to view again I have to close the form and reopen it.
Is the first time that the next time, the log file I have the message "Invalid input parameter for DfltSeq", but the first time you open the pdf.
Does anyone know help me to understand why:
    1. SAP does not reopen both reports from the second time
    2. the pdf are saved once in the path of the images, and after the path of attachments.
    Thanks
    NL

    Hi Maggie,
can you tell me if there is something official SAP (Notes or other) with the problem and that SAP will provide a solution?
I have the SAP 9.0 PL 14 and I do not have the problem.
the customer have 9.0 PL 16 and has the problem.
    Thanks

  • PDF only opens in 64 bit of AI

Hey all, I've had a few PDFs come in that can only open in the 64 bit version of AI. The problem is that we have a script that runs and interacts with AI, that only works with the 32 bit version. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause the .pdf to only work in AI 64-bit? If you need the .pdf itself, I'll have to get permission from the artist/customer before I can upload it.

My apologies. The reason it wasn't very specific is that the error only gives us "Could not open file" and exits. It looks like the artists have isolated it to an effect they had applied to the text that the 32 bit version of illustrator did not like. They resaved it as an .eps/.ai (she mentions both) and it was able to open and point her to the problem. Seems like it has a problem running debug routines on .pdf files. Issue seems to be resolved for now.

  • PDF only opening in IE

If this is the wrong part of the forum i apologize... Now onto the reason I am here..
I have a user that has Adobe Xi Pro installed along with IE8 locally. Do to job requirements of opening several pdf's hourly and editing them, how would we get it set up so that they will open in adobe pro vs opening in the browser instead.  I tried to check the intranet preferences page in pro but get the following instead of check to open in browser box.  I have checked the add ons for ie, we have tried to disable, one or all of them.  Have also tried the same steps for IE 11 through our citrix server, including tried to disable the EPM mode to see if that might also be causing it.  All changes resulted in the same,  the pdf opening up in a browser window.

    Hi kc_guy,
Could you please right-click on any PDF icon and check under 'Open with > Choose default program' if you have selected Adobe Acrobat or some other program.
Also, go to IE Tools menu > Manage Add-ons and select 'All add-ons' under "Show" label.
Then, check if Adobe PDF Reader is enabled, then click on Disable button and close the dialog box (as shown below):
Now, see if the PDFs open in Acrobat or still in the browser.
Let me know if this helps.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • E-mail Attachments are only allowing me to open in e-mail as opposed to PDF, PPT, GIF or any app that is relevant to the attachment.

E-mail Attachments are only allowing me to open in e-mail as opposed to PDF, PPT, GIF or any app that is relevant to the attachment.

Meaning if you use the "tap and hold down on the attachment" you are not getting the "Open In" option? Or should we just keep guessing about what might be happening?
If that is what is happening, deom the home screen .... quit the mail app completely in the recent tray by double tapping the home button to bring up the recents tray - and then tap and hold down on the mail app icon in the recent tray until it wiggles, then tap the red minus sign to quit the app. Restart the iPad and then try the "tap and hold down" on an attachment again.
If you mean that something else is wrong or happening - share the information.

  • Is it possible to have an app that only opens up a pdf? Where does the ...

app place the pdf when it is compiled?
Assuming the pdf is contained in the application folder when the app is then compiled? Is the pdf contained in the app, or does it get installed somewhere?

Sure, you can create an app that only opens up a PDF. The usual place for that kind of stuff is in the application's bundle, which Xcode will do if you add the PDF to your project.

  • Firefox opens PDF in window, not specified Foxit app

When I click on a link that specifies it's pointing to a PDF, Firefox (ver26.0) opens the PDF in a window rather than using Foxit, which I've specified in the Tools/Options list. In that PDF display window which I should not be getting, I AM presented with an option to open with something else ('Open with different viewer'); when I select that, I'm presented with a window that states 'You have chosen to open' along with the PDF file name, followed by 'What should Firefox do with this file?', which shows already selected 'Open with Foxit...' and 'Do this automatically...' also selected. In other words, despite having (a) selected Foxit in the browser Tools for PDF files AND (b) specifying in the 'open with' window to always use Foxit for such files, neither selected option seems to be in effect.

Usually Firefox follows your settings in Options > Applications but occasionally the file that stores your selections becomes corrupted with additional or conflicting entries. Because the structure of this file is challenging to edit, the typical workaround is simply to rename the file and have Firefox rebuild it. You will need to go back in and select a new action for PDF Files.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
    Restart Firefox.
Your application preferences should be rebuilt from internal defaults, plugin settings, and the Windows registry, and be ready for customization.
    Any improvement?

  • I downloaded the new iOS7 but i cant download my apps to my phone i can only open them up on iTunes any advice why?

Why cant i download my apps no more i can only open them on iTunes does any help please thanks.

Try rebooting your iPad and see if they reappear.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If they still do not show up, make sure hat you don't have content restrictions set that could prevent certain apps from showing up on your iPad. Settings>General>RestrictionsAllowed Content.
if you still don't see them, connect your iPad to iTunes on your computer and you should see them in the iPad mini screens on the right side of iTunes after the iPad has been selected under "devices" and when you are in the apps pane of iTunes.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
-Right click on Originals and choose NEW DWORD Value and name it bBrowserIntegration, hit enter,
double click on the new value and make sure the value is 1

In more specific terms. The apps that came on the iPod like the weather and maps and whatnot have been working flawlessly. It's just when I download an app and then disconnect from wifi it's almost like I'm on a timer until the app stops working. It acts like it wants to open, the screen flashes black then resets to the home pages. I've tried all of the basic fixes, rebooting, reseting, uninstalling then reinstalling. But like in my...long...question, the reinstalling option only seems to be a temporary fix. I just recently downloaded the 5.1.1 udate (I think that's what it was) does that have anything to do with it, or am I just derpy when it comes to iPods?

    Try the other suggestions here:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    Then try a restore.
