PDF Optimizer doesn't load

Hello, I have a user with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 on 10.4.11. When she clicks the PDF Optimizer link, no window shows up or loads. Is there a corrupt settings file or a file I can replace to remedy this?
Thanks

If its on a single pdf file it could be protected via a security
setting. If it is true for all pdfs, then I'd recommend the usual steps
to try to fix problems:
1) Log on as a different user. If it works, then you have a corrupt
preference file.
2) Fix permissions (most likely won't work)
3) re-install the application.

  • Automatic PDF viewer doesn't load pdf, goes straight to downloading using adobe reader, even with settings set to "view in firefox". How can I fix this?

Can't view PDF in firefox, even when set to do so. Firefox just opens a new tab and asks how I want to view the file again.

hello ecsmithie, webservers can determine that a file should be downloaded in any case - you could try to work around that by using the following addon:

  • PDF Optimizer and Java Scripts

We have a custom Java Script that is at the bottom of each page of certain PDFs.
The Java Script is setup to print the date on the bottom of each page if a selected PDF is printed to hard copy.
Our problems lies in the fact that after adding the Java Scripts, the PDF optimizer doesn't seem to optimize the PDF at all.
We are still talking about 6MB+ PDF files. When I look at the AUDIT feature in the PDF optimizer, the biggest offender is Fonts.
I have messed around with tons of settings inside of the PDF optimizer and nothing seems to work.
We are using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.1.0.
    Thanks,
    Bill

You might also look at Adobe's FDF Toolkit.

This is excellent if you just want your users to be able to fill out an html form and put the data values into a PDF document.

  • Acrobat Pro 9: PDF Optimizer module refuses to load...

Okay, I have a weird one...
Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.06 - The PDF Optimizer module just decided to stop loading yesterday. You poll the menu item and the window does not appear.
So I followed the usual protocols:
    I restarted - nothing.
    I ran a privilege fix - nothing.
I ran a deeper privilege fix and a drive diagnostic - nothing.
I logged in with a new account - Acrobat's PDF Optimizer module worked - so it must be preference corruption.
I reinstalled the application from the original media and updated it to 9.1 - still no PDF Optimizer.
So... the answer is preference corruption. But the question is, which preferences am I safe to delete?
I really don't fancy killing my suite and having to reinstall everything over again, so if I could pinpoint which prefs to kill to just affect Acrobat it would save me some time and stress...
    Does anyone know?

The generic Acrobat forum wasn't an option when I had to select which community I was allowed to publish the question to... That was my first option.

  • Opening a PDF file in windows 8.1 doesn't load the pdf

I have an HTML code which is trying to read a pdf file in windows 8.1 . The problem is since windows 8.1 has its default pdf reader, so for the system which has adobe installed, pdf is not getting loaded.
Can you please suggest any way to specify which pdf reader to be used for loading?

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 pdf optimizer failure..

We have a problem optimizing files in Acrobat Pro 9.
When we try to optimize (Advance > PDF Optimize) the file(s) Acrobat either chrashes, or just say "an error was encountered while processing images".
It is rather large files we have, from 50Mb to 112Mb and up to 17000 pages.
We cant split them into smaller files.
I can´t find anythin in the error log.
This happends on at least 4 computers, whit diffrent settings and hardware.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

You've likely exceeded your computers' capacity to process the necessary commands specified in the Optimizer settings chosen.
During optimization, a temp file will be created that is approximately the same size as the file being processed. The computer must be able to handle the additional load of each page being analyzed and processed. Text is not so bad, but layered images can be murder on memory.
There are some cases when an optimized pdf might actually end up being a larger file size than the original. Sometimes a simple Save As can dramatically reduce file size.
What is the goal of the optimization? How are you planning to distribute the document? Is there a reason for not providing multiple files instead of one large file? If you can give a few more details, some of the folks here might be able to give some helpful ideas.

It doesn't answer your question, but does provide good information about making optimizer choices

  • PDF Optimizer Settings

    Hi Group!
    Hope some one can help!
I received a file from one of our printers with customized settings to the PDF Optimizer window under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 8 for Mac.
I don't know where, for the life of me, to put this file so that when I open a PDF in Acrobat and select Advanced/PDF Optimizer this file with all of it's customized settings appears in the Settings list so that all I have to do is choose it.
I tried asking the person who created this file, but he was just recently laid off.
    Thanks in advance!

You folks are confusing PDF presets/settings files with what Marc is asking about.
Read his description again: He's talking about the settings you set WITHIN THE PDF OPTIMIZER DIALOG. You have the option to save settings (e.g., creating Acrobat 4 compatibility) when optimizing files. It just doesn't tell you where the settings file gets saved.
It depends on which version of Acrobat. For Acrobat 8, it's in this path on the Mac:
Users/[yourname]/Library/Acrobat User Data/8.0/PDF Optimizer. Files saved in this location DO have the ".optimize" extension.
But it's moved with Acrobat 9 Pro:
    Users/[yourname]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0 or 9.0_x86/PDF Optimizer.
9.0 is if you have a PPC Mac, 9.0_x86 is if you have an Intel Mac.

  • Font embed and PDF optimizer question

using Quark 7, Acrobat 8 professional, non-intel mac OS10.4.11. According to the quark dialog, the fonts are imbedded. When I look in PDF optimizer, the fonts don't show up. Does this mean they were never imbedded? Also, when I save a file as PDF optimized I get a zero kb figure in the finder panel. Is this correct?
    Thanks

Although you may have embedding turned on, Doesn't necessarily mean That fonts are embedded. Only fonts that allowed to be embedded, are those from Adobe, plus other font houses that have agreements with Adobe to allo it. If your trying to embed MicroSoft Fonts. Forget it it They share nothing with anyone. And The chace of it happening are about like the old say saying The chances of it happening are *Slim* and *None* *and Slim just left town*.
Also if you receive a PDF form someone else. They may have run through Optimizer to reduce the size and removed all instances of Embedded font.
If you use common fonts between windows and Apple say for example Ariel There should only be subtle differences in the look of the PDF if you have use system fonts turned on.

  • Help file doesn't load

Sometimes, the FCP X Help "manual" file doesn't load. I'm assuming this comes from Apple every time over the web. If it does, this is odd as other Apple pages are loading normally.
I have to fall back on the pdf version I saved on my Mac but it's not very searchable.
    Just me?

    Hi JaredHess
Are you certain it's looking for the .CHM? I'd be looking at
Tools > Options... > General tab and ensuring the "Use
Offline Help" hasn't been DE-selected, forcing RoboHelp to look at
    the internet for its help.

  • Scripting the PDF Optimizer

    Hi folks
I'm trying to find a way to script the PDF optimizer in Acrobat Pro 9 (Win), so it is invoked from JavaScript with the name (or path, whatever) of a profile to use when optimizing.
This feels like it should be a FAQ, but a search of the forums doesn't reveal any posts and I've had no luck with Google or with the Acrobat scripting documentation. I can invoke the scripting UI with
      app.execMenuItem("PDFOptimizer");
... but not select a profile or accept the dialog. There doesn't seem to be a proper scripting API for it. Am I just blind? Or is there no way to do this? It seems like such a basic task to use Acrobat for.
My use case is automating a weekly time-consuming PDF processing task so it can be performed in a couple of simple steps by staff without requiring error-prone checklists. One of the requirements is to save two different optimized versions with different resolutions used for image resampling.

    Thanks for confirming that.
It's such an obvious use case that I guess Adobe must not want Acrobat Pro being used where Acrobat Server could be sold. Oh well. I'd use multivalent or pdftk, but neither offer image re-sampling or attachment stripping at the moment.
This limitation means users have to babysit the script a bit, which is unfortunate, but not the end of the world.

  • New Icloud Terms and Conditions window pops up every time I try to check my email, or when I open setting. My email doesn't load because of this, so I haven't been able to check my email for months.

'New Icloud Terms and Conditions' window pops up every time I try to check my email, or when I open setting. My email doesn't load because of this, so I haven't been able to check my email for months. When I click, 'view terms' it takes me to my Icloud section in settings, but the terms don't pop up. I plugged it into my iTunes to see if it would pop up, but that didn't work either. My phone is updated, and I'm pretty sure I already accepted the new terms and conditions on the last update a few months back.

    Hi munaxnight,
If you are having issues with your iPhone continuing to ask you to accept terms and conditions, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
