PDF Page Analysis Software Required - Help!!!

HI All,
I'm hoping someone out there can recommend a tool that is able to detect the following on a pdf document:
1.       How many colour pages are in the document
2.       Total number of pages
3.       Identification of the page sizes in the document i.e. A4, A3 ect....
4.       Detection of layer in pdf document
Specifics are: we have a php website, users upload documents and the native format converts to pdf using adlib software - this is all working great. The problem is we are unable to detect all of the above elements which makes it difficult to streamline our upload to print process.
All RIP software seems to have issues handling all of the above so I am trying to steer clear of those and go in another direction.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can do 2-4 with a script in Acrobat, though for #4 I'm assuming you mean an OCG (Optional Content Group) when you say layer. #1 will be difficult. What form of output are you looking for? Does this need to work on a server?

  • Software required to communicate with the ipod is not working error, help!!

I've had my iPod nano for a while now, and it was working fine until I installed the new iTunes. Now, when I plug my nano in, iTunes won't start. Then, I open up iTunes, and it says "The software required to communicate with the iPod is not properly installed. Please re-install iTunes so you can re-install the iPod updater" or something like that. I've researched this problem, and found other things such as:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1388732
When I saw what Markinmadison told me to do, I got to the registry editor, and tried to change the permissions and tried to delete the iPodService.iPpod Manager, but it would say "Cannot delete iPodService.iPpod Manager. Error while deleting key"
I have tried everything possible, and nothing has still helped. I would really appreciate help on this one.
    Thanks!

to add, as I think this could be important and ive only just realised this, after running itunes diagnostics, it tells me that itunes helper is not running (but i checked and it seems it is) and no ipod is found (although as mentioned Windows recognises the drive).
It also tell me that the most recent ipod connected was the ipod that I had before.

  • HELP!! iPhone won't work! Software required for iPhone is not installed.

Hey, I have a pretty big problem. I just got the iphone yesterday, and tried all night hooking it up, but no luck. I installed the latest iTunes, but everytime I plug in my iphone, i says it doesn't have the software required to install iPhone. Please uninstall iTunes using setup, then re-install.
Well I do that, 4 times in fact, but same error every time. iTunes works, everything installs, but iPhone just won't activate. Windows sees iPhone and pulls up the auto-play dialog, but iTunes says to keep re-installing.
I called tech support, but was on hold for 2 hours, then just hung up.
If someone could help me out, that would help a LOT
    I'm running Vista, 64bit.
ps: Windows says installing driver in the bottom right, and says the driver installs successfully every time. I uninstall the driver manually too, but no luck
"The software required for iPhone is not installed. Please run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."

The same thing happened to me when i first plug in my iphone. it said that in order to use the iphone u needed the WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 or later installments. you can down load that from windows.com if you already have windows for you computer. then i tried it again and said that i had to uninstall itunes and reinstall it back on to my computer. i did that also. im not sure how u did it but did u completly take it off your computer? because thats how i did it, i took it completly off, and went back to apple.com and downloaded it again. i dont know if this was any help to u.

    Hi,
just to say that while waiting for a help
I decided to go back from zero and moved to a second network (thanks i got some few computers available for my tests ) and this time i run in another trouble wich is the subject of a former post (with no reply...) <<HELP!! "Checksum failed" & "Integrity check on decrypted field failed ">>

Seems this always just leads us to problems...
Strange Sun Java Security Team just won't do anything to help us deploy quite easily on one of the most widely-spread platform ( despite we don't like them that much it's MS servers (2000 and 2003) )
Anyway if one could help... on one of the two issues Thanks

  • All of a sudden I have problems printing web pages wwith Firefox 3.6.8 (XP), but printing pdf pages is still fine (printing with other software as well)

Suddenly I can't print web pages with Firefox 3.6.8 anymore, but pdf pages pose no problem - the same applies to printing with any other software

    Thanks edmeister for your trouble!
I guess I should have written that I had tried the tips on 'reset printer' and 'does not print to paper at all' before I posted the question - to no avail.
The printer starts as normal: it's the right printer selected, the dialogue window shows the progress of sending the data to the printer - and after that: that's it. It simply vanishes from the queue, and nothing happens.

  • Acrobat Help | Rotating, moving, deleting, and renumbering PDF pages

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/manipulating-deleting-renumbering-pdf-pages.html

Acrobat does not go through images to evaluate the content. You are making a judgement call when you do it. With your file I was able to use the crop tool for 2-5. P. 6 showed up offset and had to be changed. P. 1 was centered and different from the rest. I would use the odd and even features and then simply go back through and look for the pages that need to be touched up. That should do the trick. Supposedly Reduce File size will make the crop complete, but I have never found that to work well - it may be worth a shot. Another option is to print to a new PDF to delete the cropping.

  • 2Sided Original 1Sided ADF Scanner -Combine PDF Pages -  Data Error?

I just purchased a scanner with an Auto Document Feeder, ADF, of 25 pages after trying to use it I found out through the company that it only scans one side. I have another ADF scanner where the software allows the user to flip the pages over and then reinserts them for the final PDF file. Instead of spending more on a double sided scanner I figured I would create a program using Automator.
The script I created worked a few times but after some tweaking it stopped.
The problem is just before the Combine PDF Pages where I have two "Get Value of Variables" which I set as PDF Documents at the beginning of the script.
    The log reads before and at the point of error;
Conversion from Files/Folders (com.apple.applescript.alias-object) to PDF files com.apple.applescript.alias-object.pdf) completed.
. ! The action "Combine PDF Pages" was not supplied with the required data.
The variables are showing the entire path to include the filename and extention of my selected PDFs, but the log above the error seems to change the variable to the appropriately desired object.
? What I need to do to correct this error because it seemed to work earlier by using variables?
The script would be useful for any type of ADF scanner that outputs one-sided to PDFs and the originals are two-sided.
    Your help is appreciated.

I have been working in Automator for this program and saved it as an Applescript plug-in for the Scripts Menu. I don't have to have it as a script I just need it to work.
The pecular thing was while testing the program in Automator before exporting it to the plug-in the program was skitish meaning that at first it didn't work then I added 'view results' and then afterwards it seemed to work. After this I removed 'view results' and it worked then I exported it but since then I can't get it to work again even after reinserting 'view results'.

  • "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed..."

I realize my explanation of my problem is long-winded, so if you want a shortened version, here it is:
I've followed all the instructions trying nearly everything, and no matter what I do, iTunes gives me the error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." My G5 iPod (60GB) works on two other computers (both without any music on them), so I assume there something wrong with my computer and not the iPod itself.
Now for the long-winded story of the last eight hours of my life...
I just got the Generation-5 iPod Video (60GB) a today and I'm having problems already. I followed the instructions and installed the iPod software and then plugged in my iPod (iTunes has been on my computer for a while now). I was expecting iTunes to open after plugging in the iPod, but my device manager only detected and installed "a new device". I manually opened iTunes and got an error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
After re-installing the iPod software and iTunes, and restarting my computer countless times, I came looking for help here. I found this page, which seemed to outline my problem exactly. My computer recognizes the iPod as a drive, but iTunes won't have anything to do with it. I have all the symptoms outlined in the heading, so I hoped to solve my problem there. I followed the instructions step-by-step, and after the final restart, I open iTunes to get the same exact error message.
I decided to determine whether there was a problem with my iPod or if it was my computer. I plugged my iPod into my uncles's powerbook, and got to the point where I can name and configure my iPod. I expected it to work flawlessly on a Mac (which it did) but there is no way for me to continue using a Mac (after tomorrow) for my iPod. This formatted the iPod for a Mac, so I went to another (different from the original) Windows computer, clean of any iTunes and iPod software, and followed the instructions exactly as they're supposed to be followed. After the installations, I plugged in my iPod, and although iTunes didn't open, I was able to format back to Windows and name my iPod (a step in the right direction). I should note that my (anti-iPod) computer is a Windows XP Pro, and the working one is Windows XP Home Edition. This was all well and good, until I remembered there was no music on this computer. So my iPod is completely working there, but there isn't anything I can do with it.
Next, I came back here and browsed around the discussion boards, hoping to find somebody with a similar problem to mine. There seems to be alot of errors concerning iTunes not recognizing the iPod, but none of the solutions I tried worked for me, including changing the drive letter. I get the "iPod Service Error" while trying to restore to factory settings through iPod updater.
Of course, I could transfer all 32GB of music from one computer to another, but the second (working) computer isn't mine and I won't have access to it in a couple months. It would be most convenient if I could get my iPod working on my own computer. Any help would be appreciated, especially from somebody who has solved this problem or know how to solve this problem.
    P.S.
Here are some other minor details that my be important, but I didn't feel they were worth including.
    - My brother has his iPod mini set up on my computer, under a different user login. He gets the same error once in a while, but re-installing iTunes always solves the problem for him. I had him try solving my problem his way, but nothing worked for him either.
    - My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512MB RAM with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. My internal hard drive is partitioned, using the letters C, D and H (C being my system files, D used for recovery files and H for my applications and games). My E drive is used as a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and drives F and G are reserved for virtual drives (none have been running during this entire ordeal). My external hard drive uses the letter I, and I manually set my iPod to use the letter J (I've never used 'J' for anything else before).
    - Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software.
    - I'm assuming there is a problem with my computer and not my iPod, since it worked on both other computers I tried. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing a registry file or cleaning out (yet another) temp directory.

Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
    Here is what worked.
    1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
    2. Log in as an Administrator
    3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
    3.2 Type in "regedit".
    3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
    3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
    3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
    3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
I think that's all that's required, but I also searched through the registry and deleted the following keys.
    4. Other keys I deleted:
    4.1 HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodManager.IPodManagerUI.1
4.2 HKEYLOCALMACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Apple Computer Inc. --> iPod
I think that's all I deleted, but I'm not positive. I seached for instances of "ipod" using the Find... and Find Next functions under the Edit menu.
    5. Exit out of the registry editor.
    6. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.
    Hopefully this helps!
Apple support people: assuming this works, please add it to your solutions page, and feel free to reimburse me for spending half of Christmas figuring this out.
