PDF Portfolio Cover Sheets

How do i disable covers sheets in a pdf portfolio? Each document is covered with a default coversheet with the following:
"For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or Later."
How do i get rid of this?

Create a new PDF cover page which you design.
Open the PDF Portfolio. Choose View > Portfolio > Cover Sheet, and you can see the current cover sheet. Use the Replace command to replace the cover page with the one you design.
I don't think you can disable the cover page.

  • PDF Portfolio Cover - how to change this in Acrobat Pro 9?

    Hi all,
    in Windows folders PDF Portfolio files are displayed as follows:
    1. Using common PDF icons (bad, because we cannot distinguish PDF from PDF Portfolio), or
    2. If the folder allows larger pictures, then we see the standards Porfolio cover showing a "book",
    the note about the needed version and a download button.
    Question: is there a way to replace the standard PDF Portfolio cover (and symbol) by an user defined one?
    Such information like needed version and the download button aren't useful for people which
    already use correct versions. Notes like these should only appear on computer which cannot
    corretly display the respective files.
    For a meningfull overview I would like to display own contents. Is this possible?
    Best Regards, Michael

    Ignore the previous posts.
    The thing you're looking at is called the Cover Sheet - it's the page that users will see if their software cannot support Portfolios (or on Windows Explorer thumbnails), and is NOT part of the Portfolio navigator. In fact, the Cover Sheet is the "parent" to the entire document, and is nothing more than a one-page PDF file.
    To view the Cover Sheet in Acrobat, choose View -> Portfolio -> Cover Sheet
    You cannot delete it (as it's the only page in your document!) but you can edit it. For example, you could create your own design, and use the page thumbnails right-click "replace page" tool to swap in your new page. Be careful about the web link though, it needs to stay there to help your non-Adobe recipients.
    If you want to change every Cover Sheet on every Portfolio you make, replace the default "coversheet.pdf" file within the Acrobat install (there will be a series of them in subfolders, one for each installed language):
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\DocSettings\CombineFiles
    We do it all the time to add company branding to Portfolios created in enterprise installs.

  • Cannot view PDF portfolio files

    Hi,
    I am running Adobe Acrobat 10.1.3 on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
    There is a regularly updated PDF portfolio file that I view from a suppliers webpage, it is usually around the 200 - 300 page mark.  When I open this in Acrobat I get a quick glimpse of all the bookmarks in the document as well as the first page, but then this disappears and all I see are 5 documents that have nothing to do with what I am meant to be viewing.  I have never used these other documents in question so don't know where they have come from.
    It does this when I view the document in the webpage, as well as downloading it.
    I have another Windows 7 Professional 32-bit computer with Adobe Reader 10.1.3 which does the same.
    I do not know how the portfolio was created.
    I currently use Foxit reader to view this file as Foxit just opens the PDF as one large document and shows every page which is what I want.  Also Foxit does not show the 5 documents I mentioned in the above.
    Can portfolio mode be turned off in Acrobat as this may solve the problem?
    cheers
    j

    Thanks for the reply Dave.
    I have found that the document was created in Apache FOP then edited using iText (according to the document properties).
    I've discovered how to view the main document in Acrobat, I have to select View / Portfolio / Cover Sheet.  Looks like the main document gets saved as the cover sheet.  I have also found in Foxit where to view the 5 attachments (in attachment view).
    Anyway I'll keep using Foxit as this does what I want.
    cheers

  • Pdf sent won't open beyond cover sheet?  how to allow click thru of all files?

    pdf sent won't open beyond cover sheet?  how to allow click thru of all files?

    That's handy, because I can run gmail and Chrome too.
    Ok, I sent myself a PDF attachment. I'm going to go step by step through what happened
    to me, and you can tell me where your experience becomes different.
    1. The email shows a preview of the top part of page 1 for the attachment.
    2. I hover over the preview and I get two icons, "Download" and "Save to drive".
    3. I click Download.
    4. The attachment downloads and I see it in the status bar.
    5. I click on the document in the status bar. It opens to page 1, but I can use the
    scroll bar to read all of the pages.
    6. I hover in the bottom right of the page, until Chrome's PDF toolbar appears.
    7. I click the save icon.
    8. I save the file to my desktop.
    9. I open the file from my desktop. It also has all pages.

  • RightFax and PDF result in 'Problem Converting Fax Body or Cover Sheet'

    Hi All:
    We are trying to send out faxes of invoices and reports to our customers.  We have RightFax software and have used it for a long time.  We are converting our reports to PDF and send them to RightFax.  I am getting 'Problem Converting Fax Body or Cover Sheet'.  I can create a PDF from a word document and it will send it, but files output from SSRS errors.  What is different between the two.
    PhilPHuhn

    Hi All,
    We use RightFax and to get around the problem of
    Problem Converting Fax Body or Cover Sheet we were told to
    open up the PDF you want to send and click print
    Select the RightFax printer and hit print.
    It will now open up the RightFax window with the PDF attached and you just add in the telephon number and other details
    as you would send your fax.

  • How can I create a dynamic XML driven PDF Portfolio?

    I have built an XML application for which I maintain a library of individual PDF page "templates" used to assemble large (1000+ pages) PDF documents. The page templates are saved as PDFs without page numbers as they can be reused anywhere in any manual, the page numbers are applied during the document assembly process. I am now attempting to implement an update process, in which one template change can impact dozens of large documents. I am therefore looking at moving away from creating these large PDF documents and creating something more along the lines of a Package, Portfolio or other solution in which document pages/templates in the library are linked to rather than combined, so that changes across multiple large documents can be done quickly and transparently to the user. I am sure there is a solution using an Adobe spec like Portfolio or XDP, I just need a nudge down the right path, as nothing in what I've read explicitly states that these technologies can be used for this purpose. I would prefer to stay within technologies I am comfortable with to create/modify the necessary files, whcih are XML/XSLT and ANT. I would also like to know if it's possible to add page numbers on the footer of each page in the Portfolio without modifying the template, and if the resulting Portfolio can be saved as a normal PDF or printed with the dynamic page numbers included.
    I know this might be a tall order but if anyone can help clarify what's possible with existing Adobe technologies it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Indeed - PDF Portfolios are a collection of static files attached to a one-page cover sheet, you cannot have references to externally-stored documents.
    You can replace individual files in a Portfolio (by adding a file of the same name) but nothing happens automatically, and the file when added to the Portfolio will have no idea about where it originally came from. There's no concept of "check for updates".

  • Export Index from PDF Portfolio

    I need to compare two large PDF Portfolio documents. From what I can tell, there is currently no third party software around that will do this so I'm trying to figure out a way around it. Each Portfolio that I'm working with has over a thousand email messages exported from Outlook and the corresponding attachments. I know that an "Index" was created when I exported the messages because I can see the pane that lists all the typical details in an index with sortable column headers (i.e., From, Subject, Date, Size, etc...). I'm trying to figure out a way to export only this indexed information into a .csv or other delimited file so I can create unique IDs and compare the documents using Excel. From what I've read, the "Edit" button is one way to try this but for some reason, when Outlook converts messages to a PDF Portfolio, it also removes the ability to use the "Edit" tool. Does anyone know of a way to export just the index information or if there's a hidden index file somewhere? Please let me know.
    Thanks,

    You are correct that the Portfolios created by the mail client plugins are not editable. They use a special layout which does not exist as an editable master layout in Acrobat.
    It's possible to export the rows of data from the 'details' view using JavaScript, but those fields don't contain the body of the message so you will only get the headers (to, from, date, etc.). If this is all you need, follow these instructions:
    Switch to the Cover Sheet view from the View > Portfolio menu
    Open the javaScript console (Ctrl-J) and clear it with the trashcan icon
    Paste in the code which follows, select it all, then press Ctrl+Enter to execute it.
    // code follows
    var d = this.dataObjects;
    var csv = '';
        if (d) {
        cfl = this.collection.fields.length;
        tx_cols = new Array();
        tx_names = new Array();
        for (i = 0; i < cfl; i++) {
          tx_cols.push(this.collection.fields[i].text);
          tx_names.push(this.collection.fields[i].name);
            csv = tx_cols.join() + "\r\n";
            for (var i = 0; i < d.length; i++) {
          tx_data = new Array();
          for (var r = 0; r < cfl; r++) {
            tx_data.push(d[i].getFieldValue(tx_names[r]));
          csv += tx_data.join() + "\r\n";
        this.createDataObject({cName:"EmailData.csv", cValue:csv,cMIMEType:'text/csv'});
        this.exportDataObject("EmailData.csv");
        this.removeDataObject("EmailData.csv");

  • Dynamic Header help in PDF Portfolio

    Need some help please, to create and load a Dynamic Header when creating a PDF Portfolio in LiveCycle ES2.  Have input parameter of a [name] and an [image file] to place in the Header.  Process flowing out of Assembler (PDF Generator).  Currently other PDFs being inserted within the Portfolio, and Navigation parameter being received ok, and setting up custom navigation.  Any help w/ creating Dynamic Header is very much appreciated.

    By "Dynamic Header" do you mean the PDF cover page, or the interactive portfolio navigator?
    If its the cover page then it should be a fairly easy thing to do.  You can create a form (XDP or PDF template) with a field for the name and one for the image.  Then you would use something like LC Forms or Form Data Integration to merge the data (image and name) with the template.
    The one thing you would have to do is to put the image and data into an XML format before you merge it with the form. That means you will need to convert the image to a base64 encoded format.  Fortunately there is a built in function for doing the conversion in a SetValue operation (its under Document Object Functions).
    If you are talking about the Navigator (portfolio shell) then it gets a bit more tricky.  The navigator is actually a Flex application and not a PDF.  You'll have to code a new one using Flash Builder, then import the resulting .nav file into your LiveCycle application. Merging the data with it is not something I've done before, but it should be possible (the LiveCycle Interactive Statement Solution Accelerator does something similar).
    If it is new navigator you need, check out some of the following links:

  • PDF portfolio similar to cs5_evalautionkit

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a pdf portfolio similar to cs5_evalautionkit.
    All the documents in the portfolio are pdf documents.
    I want the users to navigate pages through a button on the cover page (enter the document ) and then from a side menu to other sections of the portfolio.
    I would also like the thumbnails to cover most of the screen rather than a small portion of it.
    I am trying to do this as  I dont want the users to use scroll function to go to any page on the document want them to aleays start from the cover page. Then go to another landing page ang from there they can choose the document they want to view where scroll function would work.
    If this can be achived without creating a portfolio , I would prefer that.
    kind regards
    DC

    "Is there a way to create a Portfolio without using Flash?"
    Nope.
    "Or, is there another Adobe product that has similar functionality as the Portfolio, where we can combine multiple PDFs without using Flash?"
    Nope. A Portfolio is a PDF that wraps the content (the files attached to the PDF) and Flash is the source of the user interface.
    Without this you do not have a PDF Portfolio eh.
    Any PDF can have supported files of supported file formats attached to it.
    Use a robust authoring application that is "PDF aware" to make the PDF holding the attached files pretty.
    Maybe spice it up with some Acrobat JavaScript.
    Not Flash.
    Give Bob Connolly's site a look-see; you might see some possibilities there.

  • Initial View issues with PDF portfolio

    I am creating a pdf portfolio in Acrobat 10.1.1.  The layout is Freeform, when I save it and email it to clients, it never opens to the same size, depending on their screen size or window size, it either stretches or squeezes the file folders and the become out of place (and cover up other things).  Is there a way to set the properties of the pdf portfolio so that it always opens up to a certain size?  there for no matter what size the monitor is my clients use, it will open to how its designed?  I know you can set up pdfs to open up at 100%, 500%, fit to window, actual size, etc.. but I want to take those properties and apply it to the pdf portfolio..
    Thanks

    Hi "the Conditioner",
    For a FreeForm portfolio you can set the default size of the icons ("cards").
    You may want to play around with the options to see what works best for you.
    To change the size of the cards, do the following:
    1. Open the portfolio.
    2. Ensure you are in "Layout" mode. You can click the "Layout" button to do so.
    3. Click the Edit button.
    4. On the upper right menu, click Layout to bring up the Layout panel.
    5. At the very bottom of the Layout panel is the "Portfolio Properties".
    6. Change the "Card Size".
    Your choices are Small, Medium, Large and Auto-Size.
    7. Save the portfolio. Close the portfolio (don't close Acrobat).
    Resize the Acrobat window. Open the portfolio (File > Open or from the recent files list) and see how it looks in different size windows.
    Hope this helps,
    Charlene

  • Initial View in a PDF Portfolio

    I have just started using the new portfolio feature, I have four forms that I've combined. I am using the Grid with Preview option to layout the files. When I open the portfolio it always opens to the same page in the second form, how do I change it to open to the first page of the first form?

    Michael,
    Can you explain precisely?
    Cover Sheet? In Acrobat Pro 9? Where?
    A search in the Help file returns nothing when searching for "Cover Sheet" or even "Welcome Page."
    In Acrobat Pro 8, there was an explicit command to set the currently viewed document as the start document.
    The Help files describe setting an Initial View for a Portfolio; but when you select Portfolio Properties... from the File menu, you get a Document Properties dialog, not a Portfolio Properties dialog. You only get an Initial VIew pane for a document.

  • Sharing a PDF portfolio file

    I just uploaded to Acrobat.com (cloud storage) a pdf portfolio and tried to share it, but all that was received was one page that says open with Acrobat x1 or reader x1, or some such thing.  This, after I paid $20+.  What now?

    Hi,
    Does the page you are seeing look something like this?:
    This is the "cover page" of the portfolio. Previewing of portfolio files is not supported within cloud.acrobat.com and so they will display this instead. However you should be able to view the file as expected after it is downloaded.

  • Cover sheet doesn't send

    I have just tried faxing under Tiger for the first time. I sent a sample fax to my own fax machine, but the cover page didn't come through.
    Here is what I did:
    1) Selected a Word document to fax
    2) File>Print
    3) Fax PDF
    4) Filled in the "to" field
    5) Select the check box for "use cover page"
    6) Filled in "subject"
    7) Filled in "message"
    8) Click on Fax button
    I received only the content pages and not a cover sheet. I went back through the same process again and opened the document in preview this time. No cover sheet showed up in preview and I didn't receive on on my fax machine after hitting the fax button, only the content pages as before.
    Am I missing something here? Is there something that I have to do to set up a cover sheet prior to faxing? I can't seem to find anything in the Mac Help files on this either.
    Thank you
