PDF Portfolio Displays Previous PDF

I am having an issue on multiple computers running Windows 7, 32-bit SP1 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.3 Pro. After creating a PDF portfolio with multiple PDF documents within it, and using the Grid layout I am able to see the individual PDF documents without any problem. Each of the documents contained within the portfolio has between 5-10 pages originally created from Excel 2010. If I open Document1 for example and scroll through the pages, everything looks just fine. If I then close that document and open Document2 and start scrolling, page 2 from Document1 will display even though the title of the document that is being viewed is Document2. It seems as though Acrobat is remembering or caching the previous document that was viewed and not closing it or something. If I then open document 6 for example and start scrolling, page 2 from Document2 will then display. This seems to happen only when using the Grid layout. If I scroll all the way to the bottom of the document and then back to the top, the correct pages then display and “refresh”. Has anyone else had this happen when using the Grid layout in a Portfolio? Any ideas on how to correct this?

Not seen that effect, but it may be cured by turning off the local page cache (preferences > page display) and/or 2D hardware acceleration. If either of those help, please file a bug report.

  • Identifying PDF portfolios and OCRed PDFs

    Hi
We have an application with about 10'000 PDF file attachments.
Many of those were run through OCR.. Stupidly the users weren't instructed well enough prior doing so. It now occurs that most of those OCR texts have bad quality.
Another issue is: our application can do fulltext search on the PDFs, many of the files are PDF portfolios which the fulltext enginen cannot "read" (technically, I have been told by the fulltext search engine programmer, PDF portfolios are NOT PDFs ;-) stupid but I can't change that)
What I now require is help on how to:
identify PDFs with images which have been run through OCR, so that we can rerun OCR through those PDFs
identify PDFs which are atually PDF portfolios, so that we can (maybe automatically, maybe manually) convert them to normal PDFs
I don't expect any prebuilt solution...
we would even pay someone to help us out here. The data within those PDFs is crucial for our whole enterprise.
I tried already some of the javascript apis... but no luck... maybe there are other tools which can help us here?
I am thankful for any pointers and help in this topic
    Michael

Testing for whether OCR has been performed may be tough. Preflight can report on hidden text objects, but this probably wouldn't be useful to you.
You can test to see if a document is a portfolio using the collection property of a document (and/or test to see if there are any file attachments). This can be done using JavaScript in a batch sequence.

  • Downloaded free PDF Portfolio, no Create PDF Protfolio option from File Create

Downloaded free PDF Portfolio, instructions say to load via> File, Create, Create PDF Portfolio,  there is no option for Create PDF Portfolio in my Acrobat XI

(Actually, I think this question is about Adobe Acrobat, not CreatePDF.)
Do you have Acrobat Standard? If so, I think it is a mistake that you were offered this, as portfolios are a feature of Acrobat Pro. At least, that's what I remember.

  • Firefox PDF Viewer Displays Specific PDF Incorrectly

I have a PDF hosted on my website that displays incorrectly when loaded in the FireFox PDF viewer. I would like to simply fix the PDF so that it looks correctly. I understand there are ways to circumvent the PDF viewer, but I have not been able to get any of them to work for me. Is there a style guide or something that can help me fix the PDF so it loads correctly on the website?
    The PDF is: http://www.tiresafetygroup.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2013/05/Modern-Tire-Designed-for-Profit-WEB4.pdf

It already looks a lot better in the Latest development version, although I still get the notification bar.

You'd have the PDF of interest open in Acrobat.
Open the Pages panel. Locate and select the desired page then tap the delete key.

  • Cannot open pdf portfolio using adobe reader X

    Hi
Previously, I thought that having Adobe reader 5 or up is enought to be able to open PDF portfolio's created in Adobe acrobat X, though on a differing level of view depending on the Adobe reader version.
My Problem is, I tried to open a PDF portfolio, I have Adobe Reader X and it came up with an error.
Newbie question, So, to view portfolios or any PDF's with flash etc, the ussual Reader would no longer suffice?
    Regards
    Jani

Thanks for the replies. Dave, thanks for the really helpful link.
The problem that this has created is for some guys who are previously sending reports (multiple pdf's/portfolio) to their clients in a hassle free way since it only requires the client (recipient) to have Adobe Reader installed. Now it requires another program as it was sort of separated from the Reader family. Previously, instead of having the ussual coversheet for the PDF portfolio to include that it is best to view on the latest version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat, will now need to include the latest version of Flash player as well.
I have not tested yet, though probably on another topic, but does this also affect if you are planning to open a PDF created in Indesign and given the format of  "page flip"?
Dave, do you have any tips on a possible workaround or atleast creating a pdf portfolio or any PDF document with SWF/flash capability to be user friendly or less hassle for a recipient to open?
I am really sorry if I have a lot of questions =(

  • Link to A folder View in a PDF Portfolio - feature no longer working - please advise

Hi, I am no longer able to link to a Folder View of a PDF Portfolio:
Within a PDF portfolio i need to link from a PDF to a folder view in the Portfolio. I am using Link Action - Go to Page View.
This used to work for me - very important feature that no longer works. Please advise a workaround.
    Steps:
    1. Start a PDF Portfolio that contains files and folders
    2. Open a PDF in the Portfolio
    3. in the opened PDF click Add or Edit Link
    4. Define a link area and set it to Go To A Page Vies
    5. In the past i have been able to target a Folder View in the Portfolio - ie. direct a user not to a file, but instead to a folder view that contains relevant files. I would do this by setting the Target Page View to my desired folder view
    6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.
    thanks!

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.

You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

  • Split PDF portfolio, with a catch however

    What I have:
One PDF portfolio containing multiple PDF files with a varying number of pages
What I am trying to achieve:
Split or disassemble the PDF portfolio into single PDF files (not into single pages!)
    The problem:
I created the PDF portfolio using outlook to make a backup of an inbox. Therefore every PDF file that is in the portfolio is a PDF printout of an email. And this is where it becomes problematic for me as some emails had the the same subject. As a result there are numerous PDF files in the portfolio that have the same file name. This leads to a finder (or explorer, depending on the operating system,) conflict when I am using the export function of Acrobat Reader and I am only offered the two following choices: skip (the export of this file) or overwrite (the other PDF file with the same name). I am not offered to "keep both". As I have several portfolios of this type and each contain hundreds of emails the extent of this problem is too big to be fixed manually. I am therefore looking for an automated solution to this problem.
    Tech Specs:
    Software: Adobe Reader 11.0.10
Operating system:  OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
I also have access to a PC running Windows 7.
    Thank you!

    Thank you @sukritd15 @CtDave!
I just finished activating my copy of Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro which I bought in the meantime. Unfortunately the problem persists.

  • No "PDF Portfolio task pane" on Intel Mac!!!

Acrobat 9 Pro has different behaviors between Intel Mac and PowerPC Mac !!!
On Intel Mac, I cannot change the default layout of any PDF Portfolios, because the "PDF Portfolio task pane" doesn't show, so there's no way to touch the "CHOOSE A LAYOUT" button.
But on PowerPC Mac, everything is fine.
I think it's a serious bug which only affect Intel Mac. Please confirm this.
    Thanks.
(I attached screenshot of new created PDF Portfolio window under Intel Mac and PowerPC Mac)

    Hi, Steve
I just found the key to trigger this "bug". In Acrobat or Reader's Preferences, choose "International", and there's a "Choose Font" option. I can choose between "Application Default Font" and "GB18030 compliant Font" (I don't know if this later GB18030 option shows in non-Chinese environment).
If I choose the GB18030 option, I won't see the "PDF Portfolio task pane". I think I don't need this option, so I recover the old settings. (Obviously my Acrobat system files are not broken, but I cannot explain why simply delete all preferences in my home directory didn't work -- maybe this option are not stored in my home directory).

  • Dynamically change the document when the user opens it through a PDF Portfolio

    Hello
I'm generating a PDF Portfolio using LiveCycle PDF Generator. I need to dynamically change the document that is presented when the user opens a PDF portfolio.
Can anyone give ideas on how to accomplish this using the portfolio and navigator API?
    Thank you

That was it. What an operating system. It is very helpful to view files you are looking for. But if you have preview on you cannot save files.

  • Help Needed:  Acrobat Pro XI - Reduced Sized PDF vs. Optimized PDF

Hopefully some of you folks can help me, as I cannot get in touch with Adobe customer service.  I recently upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI.  In my old version of Acrobat Pro, I used to be able to take a PDF file of large size (let's say 10 MB) and shrink it down considerably with relative ease (down to less than 1 MB).  The file could then be easily emailed, shared, read, and most importantly wouldn't take up tons of hard drive space.  With this new version of Acrobat Pro XI, that same 10 MB file barely reduces down to 7 or 8 MB.  I have played with the various settings in both the File -> Save As Other -> Reduced Sized PDF and File -> Save As Other -> Optimized PDF.  Regardless of what I try, I cannot achieve anywhere near the same compression results as what I used to be able to achieve with my old version of Pro.  I can get the file size reduced, but the reduced file quality is trash.
Has anyone else encountered this problem as well?  Do any of you have any suggestions on what to do to fix??  I primarily scan a document as a PDF file with my HP OfficeJet Pro, and then reduce the PDF file size after the scan.  I could scan the document with lower DPI to begin with (currently scan 300 dpi typically grayscale), but then I don't have the scanned image quality that I need to reduce the file down so that it can be reprinted later at a good enough quality.

I had previously ran the audit, and 99% + of my bloat is in the image.  All of the other possibilities for bloat do not even add up to 1%.  For my purposes as a Financial Advisor, I print out blank applications & account forms, fill out the paperwork by hand, and then scan copies of the completed paperwork back into my computer for electronic filing.  Some of these completed client documents can be 50 to 75 pages long ... so the PDF scanned at 300 dpi obviously starts out as a substantially sized document that can take up 25, 35, or 45 MB per scan.  The crazy thing is that the old version of Acrobat Pro (I believe it was version 7 or 8) would take a 45 MB file and compress it down almost to 1/10th of the oiginal size.  As a result, a 45 MB file would end up as a 4.5 MB file.  This significant reduction was always accomplished using the one button selection "Reduce PDF" command ... had nothing to do with optimizing the PDF with the old version.  Once I ended up with the 4.5 MB file, I could open that file at a later date and print out a page that I needed and you couldn't hardly tell if it was the original or a scanned copy.  There was no loss of quality whatsoever!!  The Reduce PDF size in Acrobat XI just doesn't work well ... will take that 45 MB file and reduce it down to 42 MB which defeats the whole purpose of the Reduce PDF command in the first place.  If I play around with the inputs in the Optimze PDF, I can shrink the file size lower but lose way too much image quality.  The only variable that has changed from my old scanning results vs. my new scanning results is the upgrade from Acrobat Pro 7 to Acrobat Pro XI ... everything else that I'm doing is the exact same.  Same thing applies when I create a PDF portfolio from multiple PDF documents ... a 150 MB PDF Portfolio will barely reduce in file size.

  • Need Acrobat Pro to assemble master PDF from dissimilar sized PDF's?

I have a need to create a master PDF (portfolio) from other PDF's, with the master PDF containing Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and different size CAD drawings already converted into PDF's.  Do I need Acrobat Pro to manage the dissimilar sized documents, or is Acrobat Standard sufficient.
Other question - to annotate the master PDF with highlighting, emphasis boxes around key information, and text boxes, I assume both Acrobat Standard and Pro have the same capabilities.
    Correct?
    Thanks for everyone's help.

To create PDF portfolio, you would require Acrobat X PRO, this feature is not available in Std. Version. For more details, please see Acrobat X product comparison matrix.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html
For your second questions, "Yes" Acrobat Std. is sufficient.
Please let me know, if you have any further questions.

  • PDF portfolio in browser display issues

PDF Portfolio created in Acro Pro 9 with layout of grid/preview
PCs using IE 8 to view portfolio in web broswer
When one loads the portfolio, the portfolio loads in IE8 Ok BUT it does not display as intended as the browser add-in always starts in 'layout' view rather than 'File' view. This means that the grid of all the PDFs in the portfolio are not shown. The file list appears if you select 'File' view and this is an OK compromise.
Is there any way to make the browser view load as 'file' rather than 'layout'? - I can't find an option in Acro Pro for this.
Portfolio opens as intended if we turn off the view in browser option but I need to keep that option ticked for other applications.
    thanks

  • Adobe PDF Portfolio - Preview Mode Displaying Incorrect Pages

I have created a PDF portfolio using the “Grid” template in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. The Portfolio contains three pdf files. I am getting the following problem when I open the pdf Portfolio in Adobe Reader X and XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Open the PDF portfolio
    Click on pdf3
Preview mode displays the correct document and pages.
    Close the preview of pdf3
    Click on pdf2
Preview mode displays pages from pdf3,not pdf2 (see screenshot below).
    Some observations:
If pdf1 has two pages, and pdf2 has ten pages, pdf2’s preview contains pdf 1 (pages 1-2)  and then pdf2 (pages 3-10).
If I continue to open pdfs the preview contains pages from all the pdfs I have opened in the portfolio (this depends on how many pages the document I am currently previewing has). It is not just caching the last pdf opened.
Preview mode always displays the correct NUMBER of pages (i.e., if there are ten pages in a pdf, there will be ten pages in the preview. They will just be the wrong pages).
Turning off local page cache (preferences > page display) does not fix the problem.
Adobe Reader is up-to-date and Flash is up-to-date. I have replicated the problem on different computers, and in Adobe Reader X and XI, and Pro XI. I have also created muliple pdf portfolios from scratch to confirm the pdf portfolio itself wasn't corrupt.
Does anyone have an idea what is happening? Users are getting very confused when their preview shows them a completely different document.
    Thanks for any help

We have the same problem. Everything's up to date. Adobe needs to address this issue!! The portfolio feature is a great idea, but this glitch basically ruins it. If you come by this page with the same problem, make sure you leave a reply. Maybe Adobe will actually pay attention if there are enough complaints.
