PDF portfolio in browser display issues

PDF Portfolio created in Acro Pro 9 with layout of grid/preview
PCs using IE 8 to view portfolio in web broswer
When one loads the portfolio, the portfolio loads in IE8 Ok BUT it does not display as intended as the browser add-in always starts in 'layout' view rather than 'File' view. This means that the grid of all the PDFs in the portfolio are not shown. The file list appears if you select 'File' view and this is an OK compromise.
Is there any way to make the browser view load as 'file' rather than 'layout'? - I can't find an option in Acro Pro for this.
Portfolio opens as intended if we turn off the view in browser option but I need to keep that option ticked for other applications.
thanks
Julian

  • Adobe PDF Portfolio - Preview Mode Displaying Incorrect Pages

    I have created a PDF portfolio using the “Grid” template in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. The Portfolio contains three pdf files. I am getting the following problem when I open the pdf Portfolio in Adobe Reader X and XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Open the PDF portfolio
    Click on pdf3
    Preview mode displays the correct document and pages.
    Close the preview of pdf3
    Click on pdf2
    Preview mode displays pages from pdf3,not pdf2 (see screenshot below).
    Some observations:
    If pdf1 has two pages, and pdf2 has ten pages, pdf2’s preview contains pdf 1 (pages 1-2)  and then pdf2 (pages 3-10).
    If I continue to open pdfs the preview contains pages from all the pdfs I have opened in the portfolio (this depends on how many pages the document I am currently previewing has). It is not just caching the last pdf opened.
    Preview mode always displays the correct NUMBER of pages (i.e., if there are ten pages in a pdf, there will be ten pages in the preview. They will just be the wrong pages).
    Turning off local page cache (preferences > page display) does not fix the problem.
    Adobe Reader is up-to-date and Flash is up-to-date. I have replicated the problem on different computers, and in Adobe Reader X and XI, and Pro XI. I have also created muliple pdf portfolios from scratch to confirm the pdf portfolio itself wasn't corrupt.
    Does anyone have an idea what is happening? Users are getting very confused when their preview shows them a completely different document.
    Thanks for any help

    We have the same problem. Everything's up to date. Adobe needs to address this issue!! The portfolio feature is a great idea, but this glitch basically ruins it. If you come by this page with the same problem, make sure you leave a reply. Maybe Adobe will actually pay attention if there are enough complaints.

  • Acrobat X Pro PDF Portfolio does not display video correctly

    Windows XP
    Acrobat X Pro
    SWF file, also SWF file converted to PDF
    I am trying to place an SWF file in a portfolio so that the first frame of the video will be visible as the user pages through the portfolio. All I see is a white screen. When I double-click it and then then click "open file" the PDF version at least plays fine. But I can't seem to get the preview to display correctly.
    Can anyone provide any help?
    Thanks!

    I am self taught and have the for dummies and a manual and can't seem to get this.  Any help at all is GREATLY appreciated!!

    Your first issue is that you have this
    <link rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css"
    href="file:///C|/Users/Owner/Documents/Laura/Clover Concepts/an-ocean-of-sky/
    an-ocean-of-sky/anoceanofsky.css" />
    and it should be
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"href="anoceanofsky.css" />
    That is if your css is in your root folder...if you have your css in a
    folder called "an-ocean-of-sky", then your link should be:
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"href="an-ocean-of-sky
    /anoceanofsky.css" />

  • Is there a way to correct Adobe PDF Portfolio - Preview Mode Displaying Incorrect Pages

    Whether the portfolio is created in Acrobat X or XI, or viewed in X or XI, (and these are created as a grid) , the preview of the pdf shows pages of the previously viewed pdf within that portfolio. Acrobat and Flash is up to date.

  • Very new to using flash in websites: browser display issue

    I am very new to flash ads and we are on a new platform after a website redesign.  I'm having trouble with flash display settings I'm guessing since the ad displays fine in IE, but not fine in Firefox and Chrome.  Images to follow (for the curious it is a YWCA ad):
    Here you see overlap on the current version of Firefox.
    This ad has wings! Current version of Chrome.
    This is IE. What? IE is right and the other browsers aren't? What gives!?
    Additional details:  The position is a plugin position for Wordpress.  The ad is being placed via Ad-minister with the following code:
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0">

    Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    test with the html published by flash.  if no problems, the issue is the embedding code.

  • Need help with margins & footer, and browser display issues....

    Hello,
    I am working on a splash page in Dreamweaver, but am having trouble with the margins and the footer.
    1. Margins: I basically want/need the center contents of the page never to extend past the contents of the header and footer.
    If you look at the page header, the logo on the top left and "Student and Faculty Portal" should be the margins. Seems to look fine on some users' systems, but not consistent across our department.
    2. Footer:  I can't seem to figure out how to keep the footer at the bottom without rising above the background image across all browsers & screen sizes.  Looks fine on some, but too high or low on others. (Looks the worst when the background image shows underneath the footer).
    3. Browser/Screen Size:  Depending on which PC I am using, my page changes.  At the office, on my 26" monitors, my page looks fine, however, when on different laptops, my right div (that contains the login table) goes under the left.  How can I code my page so that it looks consistent on all?
    I guess my main complaint/need is for my page to look consistent regardless of screen size, browser or system.
    If you could take a look, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Your expertise and time is greatly appreciated.  I hope I was clear enough, but please let me know if there is any confusion.

    Kind regards,
    JK

    1.  Create a div around your content, give it a width and margin: 0 auto;
    2.  Follow this tutorial.  It will be a lifesaver and it sounds like what you are trying to do: http://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/sticky-footer/
    3.  See #1.  In addition, remove right-margin from login box, add float: right; and remove float: left; from main content.

  • Sub menu browser display issue

    Hello,
    http://marketing.ocean-florida.co.uk/damien/ocean/homepage/ocean52.html
    I'm having an issue with the main navigation sub menu.
    In IE9 on Windows 7 the drop down text (last character) drops to the next line.
    Screenshot attched.
    Any ideas as to why this is happening would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Damien

    I see you've styled your CSS width to be auto for your dropdown ULs
    Did you try setting manual width for 'Cruise & Stay' UL alone? Say, around 67px wide instead of 57 that it takes on auto?

  • PDF Portfolio Cover - how to change this in Acrobat Pro 9?

    Hi all,
    in Windows folders PDF Portfolio files are displayed as follows:
    1. Using common PDF icons (bad, because we cannot distinguish PDF from PDF Portfolio), or
    2. If the folder allows larger pictures, then we see the standards Porfolio cover showing a "book",
    the note about the needed version and a download button.
    Question: is there a way to replace the standard PDF Portfolio cover (and symbol) by an user defined one?
    Such information like needed version and the download button aren't useful for people which
    already use correct versions. Notes like these should only appear on computer which cannot
    corretly display the respective files.
    For a meningfull overview I would like to display own contents. Is this possible?
    Best Regards, Michael

    Ignore the previous posts.
    The thing you're looking at is called the Cover Sheet - it's the page that users will see if their software cannot support Portfolios (or on Windows Explorer thumbnails), and is NOT part of the Portfolio navigator. In fact, the Cover Sheet is the "parent" to the entire document, and is nothing more than a one-page PDF file.
    To view the Cover Sheet in Acrobat, choose View -> Portfolio -> Cover Sheet
    You cannot delete it (as it's the only page in your document!) but you can edit it. For example, you could create your own design, and use the page thumbnails right-click "replace page" tool to swap in your new page. Be careful about the web link though, it needs to stay there to help your non-Adobe recipients.
    If you want to change every Cover Sheet on every Portfolio you make, replace the default "coversheet.pdf" file within the Acrobat install (there will be a series of them in subfolders, one for each installed language):
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\DocSettings\CombineFiles
    We do it all the time to add company branding to Portfolios created in enterprise installs.

  • PDF Portfolio Displays Previous PDF

    I am having an issue on multiple computers running Windows 7, 32-bit SP1 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.3 Pro. After creating a PDF portfolio with multiple PDF documents within it, and using the Grid layout I am able to see the individual PDF documents without any problem. Each of the documents contained within the portfolio has between 5-10 pages originally created from Excel 2010. If I open Document1 for example and scroll through the pages, everything looks just fine. If I then close that document and open Document2 and start scrolling, page 2 from Document1 will display even though the title of the document that is being viewed is Document2. It seems as though Acrobat is remembering or caching the previous document that was viewed and not closing it or something. If I then open document 6 for example and start scrolling, page 2 from Document2 will then display. This seems to happen only when using the Grid layout. If I scroll all the way to the bottom of the document and then back to the top, the correct pages then display and “refresh”. Has anyone else had this happen when using the Grid layout in a Portfolio? Any ideas on how to correct this?

    Not seen that effect, but it may be cured by turning off the local page cache (preferences > page display) and/or 2D hardware acceleration. If either of those help, please file a bug report.

  • CF8 - pdf files do not display in a browser

    We are setting up the multiple instance capability using jrn4 with cf8,
    with apache 2.x on Redhat linux 5.X.
    For the when browsing to the main cfusion instance I can see pdf files
    but if I go to the document root of an instance, pdf files are not displayed.
    Infact it hoses whichever browser you are using.
    I can see cfm, txt, html files.
    Anyone have an idea what is happening?
    paulw

    I tried your recommendation of turning off coldfusion and it
    appears the problem of not being able to display
    a pdf file has nothing to do with coldfusion or with apache.
    The problem appears to be how we are mounting the documentroot on a linux server
    from a windows file server using a cifs mount.
    It seems to handle text files properly but not pdf files (it may have problems
    with other types of files), perhaps it is an issue with end of line or end of
    file which is confusing things.
    This is the mount command we are using
    //win_file_server/xyz     /data/xyz          cifs   user,ro,credentials=credentials,uid=48,gid=48,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0755
    The credentials file contains
    username=some_name
    password=xxxxxxxx
    uid=apache
    gid=apache
    filemode=0660
    dirmode=0770
    nosuid
    nosetuids
    It works file if the documentroot is on a mounted unix file system, but not windows.
    Does anyone know if mounting a windows file system can work properly?
    (Perhaps we are missing some additional settings).

  • LifeCycle Form Server :- My form is rendering as pdf in the browser  without displaying data sometim

    LifeCycle Form Server :- My form is rendering as pdf in the browser without displaying data sometimes within data fields, and at other times it will display data. The form consistently displays data when rendered in HTML.
    We display the forms in a browser either HTML or PDF format based on the user selection. But the behavior of PDF format is not consistent. Sometimes it renders properly and sometimes the form renders without data.
    Dose any one experienced this issue?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    I have been seeing the same issue, but haven't been able to find a fix for it yet. So any info would be appreciated here too.

  • Pdf portfolio document preview issue

    I'm creating a pdf portfolio in Acrobat XI and have run into a problem when using grid view. When viewing the pdf portfolio on my 15" laptop, the document preview is cropped in both the thumbnail and larger preview. But when I view the pdf portfolio on a larger monitor, both previews are fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue? Thanks so much for reading.

  • Problems displaying PDF files in browser - Help requested

    The scenario is that I visit a website that has information available via a link that normally would open a PDF document in a browser window.  The sort of document, that once open, if I clicked 'File-save as' in the browser would immediately save as a PDF file.  In the current situation I click on the link and all I get that opens is a screen full of random characters from top to bottom.  I have tried right click 'file save as' on the link that would open the PDF in the browser, but all it wants to save is a .PNG file, i.e. http://echa.europa.eu/echa-styled-theme/images/doc_lang/en.png - which is what I get from right click 'properties' on that link which should open the PDF in the brawser - normally I would see a .PDF file described. I therefore can't even download the file to open as a PDF direct from a stored location on my own PC - all it seems to see is the graphics format - this probably why when the browser goes to open the PDF file I get the random characters, i.e. the application is doing its best to translate what it does see.  I would be grateful for some advice.  Pertinant information follows:
    1.  It happens across more websites than just one example that I've quoted.
    2.  It happens on my desktop only - I don't have the problem on 4 other portable computers, including ones running the same O/S
    3.  Desktop is running Windows Home Pro, all updates executed, running the latest version of Acrobat reader with all updates executed - I tried yet another uninstall, reboot, new download, reinstall, reboot etc. yesterday.  Desktop is HP Pavillion with 12GB RAM
    4.  I get the random character display when running IE9 on the desktop, I have also replicated the problem with other versions of IE installed instead.  If I try using Chrome as a browser it goes away and tries and just fails to open the link entirely and reverts to the original page.
    5.  I've already checked online for similar problems and can confirm that all the Adobe plugins are installed per what seems standard advice I have also checked the internet settings in Adobe Acrobat preferences and all seems fine.
    6.  Thing like the browsers and Adobe arobat are running as per their standard set-ups with nothing else done to these.
    7.  Any other PDF files stored on the hard drive of the desktop open in Acrobat reader without problems
    8.  Acrobat reader version is 11.0.06.70
    Any assistance to open the PDF files in the browser and get it working particularly with IE would be great, I am quite IT literate and can try most things.  Many thanks

    I have no idea how to edit the above message, but apparently it has been rejected.  I cannot understand why, I am a regular contributor in many forums and have never suffered the indignity of having had a message rejected before.  The message contains an excellent example of the problems I am having in the following link Vacancies
    How on earth can I demonstrate the problems I am having without being to post an example - that example has both sorts of links on one page, ones I can open and ones I can't - if anyone with technical knowledge is trying to help me then that is just the sort of page that would be useful to help solve the problem.  Rather than the link to the ECHA website in the above posting (which I note was approved).  I struggle with your logic in accepting one message and rejecting the other.  It is difficult enough as a user to describe a problem in words let alone have the best example of the problem rejected without explanation and no right of appeal on the email that I got telling me.  Not happy here!   All I am trying to do is to solve the problem I have
