PDF portfolio similar to cs5_evalautionkit

Hi,
I am trying to create a pdf portfolio similar to cs5_evalautionkit.
All the documents in the portfolio are pdf documents.
I want the users to navigate pages through a button on the cover page (enter the document ) and then from a side menu to other sections of the portfolio.
I would also like the thumbnails to cover most of the screen rather than a small portion of it.
I am trying to do this as  I dont want the users to use scroll function to go to any page on the document want them to aleays start from the cover page. Then go to another landing page ang from there they can choose the document they want to view where scroll function would work.
If this can be achived without creating a portfolio , I would prefer that.
kind regards
DC

"Is there a way to create a Portfolio without using Flash?"
Nope.
"Or, is there another Adobe product that has similar functionality as the Portfolio, where we can combine multiple PDFs without using Flash?"
Nope. A Portfolio is a PDF that wraps the content (the files attached to the PDF) and Flash is the source of the user interface.
Without this you do not have a PDF Portfolio eh.
Any PDF can have supported files of supported file formats attached to it.
Use a robust authoring application that is "PDF aware" to make the PDF holding the attached files pretty.
Maybe spice it up with some Acrobat JavaScript.
Not Flash.
Give Bob Connolly's site a look-see; you might see some possibilities there.

  • Dynamic Header help in PDF Portfolio

Need some help please, to create and load a Dynamic Header when creating a PDF Portfolio in LiveCycle ES2.  Have input parameter of a [name] and an [image file] to place in the Header.  Process flowing out of Assembler (PDF Generator).  Currently other PDFs being inserted within the Portfolio, and Navigation parameter being received ok, and setting up custom navigation.  Any help w/ creating Dynamic Header is very much appreciated.

By "Dynamic Header" do you mean the PDF cover page, or the interactive portfolio navigator?
If its the cover page then it should be a fairly easy thing to do.  You can create a form (XDP or PDF template) with a field for the name and one for the image.  Then you would use something like LC Forms or Form Data Integration to merge the data (image and name) with the template.
The one thing you would have to do is to put the image and data into an XML format before you merge it with the form. That means you will need to convert the image to a base64 encoded format.  Fortunately there is a built in function for doing the conversion in a SetValue operation (its under Document Object Functions).
If you are talking about the Navigator (portfolio shell) then it gets a bit more tricky.  The navigator is actually a Flex application and not a PDF.  You'll have to code a new one using Flash Builder, then import the resulting .nav file into your LiveCycle application. Merging the data with it is not something I've done before, but it should be possible (the LiveCycle Interactive Statement Solution Accelerator does something similar).
If it is new navigator you need, check out some of the following links:

  • Does Office Web Apps 2013 supports PDF Portfolio Documents

    Hi Team,
Could you please let me know whether office web apps supports Adobe Acrobat X PDF Portfolios (Preview PDF portfolio files through OWA 2013 in SharePoint 2013).
    Thanks!
    Bharat
    Thanks! Palani K

    Hi Bharat,
Quote from the link you provided:
The original files retain their individual identities but are assembled into one PDF Portfolio file. You can open, read, edit, and format each component file independently of the other component files in the PDF Portfolio. Depending on the circumstances,
PDF Portfolios offer several advantages over merging multiple files into a single PDF.
Since the issue is related to third party product, I'd recommend you also contact their support engineer for more sufficient resource and assistance.
There is not many articles as I could find that talk about pdf portfolio in Office Web App, here is a similar thread:

  • Adobe Reader not opening PDF Portfolio - Flash player error

I have Acrobat 9 Standard installed on my PC and I created a PDF Portfolio. Acrobat Standard can open that Portfolio just fine.
I also have Acrobat Reader installed (11.0.2).and have Adobe Flash Player (11.7.700.169) installed. Both Reader and Flash Player work fine independently on PDF or Flash content.
However when I try to open the PDF portfolio with Reader, I get the following Error:
:"To view the Flash technology in this FDF file; please install this version of Flash player that supports Adobe reader and Acrobat".
The Dialog box with the message above has a [Proceed to download page] button (which does nothing but bring up Reader with a black page), a [Learn more] button (similar behavior), and a [Cancel] button.  Both Reader and Flash are the latest versions as of today (4/16/2013).
Any help or insight with this is appreciated.
    Thanks !

  • Acrobat PDF Portfolio - Not Saving my Welcome Page or Header

For some reason, I can't get my Welcome Page or Header to save when I'm creating a PDF Portfolio.
What am I missing? It shows up fine when I create it but then I save and close and reopen and they aren't there...
    Please Help!

You don't mention a version, but this may be a known issue if you are in 9.4. Take a look at the thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/793948 and see if the situation you are experiencing sounds similar and if the work around posted by Josh_Corey (toward the bottom of the thread, posted Jan 31, 2011) resolves the problem.
Please let us know either way.

  • How do you open link to a file contained in a PDF portfolio in a new window?

I am making a large PDF portfolio with one main document that links to other documents contained inside the portfolio. The problem is when I select a link, it will take me to the document I would like it to but I cannot move back to the main document as easily as I would like to. Is there a fast "back" option, or can I set the link to open in a new window? I know I can move to the list view, hit the back button, re-open the main document, and find the same page again but that is not a very quick method.
I know how to set the link to open in a new window if I am opening a new file, but that option is not available if I would like to jump to a specific page contained within the document. I tried to "open a file" and select the portfolio but it won't allow me to set the page so that didn't work either. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hi fmalek17,
Firstly, there is no such 'back' option in a portfolio. You might need to set a link in a similar way in the other document also for going back to the main document in a portfolio.
Secondly, you need to select 'Go to a page view' option in the Create Link window to jump to a specific page. Unfortunately, there is no such option available in Acrobat via which you can go to some specific page of the same document which gets opened in another window.

  • Any way to search a PDF portfolio that has been saved as web site?

I've saved and posted several pdf portfolios on my web site, but I'd like to be able to let viewers search them similar to how you can search contents using Acrobat.
    Any ideas?

For a PDF in web space all the is available is simple find or search.
Search making use of a Catalog index is not possible.
Search is no better than simple Find unless the PDF has an embedded index.
However having an embedded index precludes fast web view configuration.
But you have a Portfolio which is a PDF with a Flash UI to present the attached files.
To use Adobe Reader or Acrobat Find or Search will call for opening the attached PDF file first.
    Be well...

  • New PDF portfolios without the old options

Previously, we created PDF portfolios so users can view all 3 PDFs in one document. Now, with the latest version of Adobe, the PDF portfolio templates and options are all different. Users must extract each PDF (within the portfolio) to be able to view it fully. This defeats the entire purpose of creating a PDF portfolio in the first place and will definitely confuse our users, who are accustomed to the old PDF portfolio. Is there a way to import old templates to the new Adobe? Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

That's just how it is. The navigators from Acrobat 9 cannot be used in later versions and their source code was never released, so to replicate their features you would have to write them yourself, from scratch, using the Portfolio SDK and Flex.

  • Filename in PDF portfolio?

Sorry for what I'm sure is an easy(lame) question.
I don't want to show the filename when creating a PDF portfolio and I've hunted for the answer without any luck.
How do I only show the image or show a custom text/ title but not the XXXXX.jpg filename?
    thx!
    > just to clarify.... when viewing a PDF portfolio of images I don't want to show the image filename below the image.

    Hi,
I've been trying to hide the file name myself. It seems intuitive that, while in the Modify area of the PDF Portfolio, under "Specify File Details" that one would simply unclick "Name" under "Columns to Display".
But all that seems to do is hide it while I'm within the Modify section. I save and go back to view the pdfs and there are the file names.
Anyone out there know the answer? Even if it's just a link to more info, that would be great. I need to get this out but without the filenames. I've searched in Google but no good info.
BTW, the Description option is a nice touch and shows upon immediate hover. That's why I don't need to show a file name. Plus, you can write more in the description than is viable/sensible in a file name.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Link to A folder View in a PDF Portfolio - feature no longer working - please advise

Hi, I am no longer able to link to a Folder View of a PDF Portfolio:
Within a PDF portfolio i need to link from a PDF to a folder view in the Portfolio. I am using Link Action - Go to Page View.
This used to work for me - very important feature that no longer works. Please advise a workaround.
    Steps:
    1. Start a PDF Portfolio that contains files and folders
    2. Open a PDF in the Portfolio
    3. in the opened PDF click Add or Edit Link
    4. Define a link area and set it to Go To A Page Vies
    5. In the past i have been able to target a Folder View in the Portfolio - ie. direct a user not to a file, but instead to a folder view that contains relevant files. I would do this by setting the Target Page View to my desired folder view
    6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.
    thanks!

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

  • PDF portfolio works in what versions?

How do I know what versions or Acrobat or Reader my PDF portfolio will work in?
    Will it work in reader?

PDF Portfolios will work in both Acrobat and Reader 9.
    In addition,
"By default, PDF Portfolios created in Acrobat 9 will open in earlier  versions of Acrobat and Reader and the PDF Portfolio will make the best  use of the features available to it. When opened in version 8, the PDF  Portfolio will act like a PDF Package and in version 7 and 6, the  contents will appear as attachments"

  • PDF portfolio - how do i update or replace pdf files in portfolio

I created a pdf portfolio using the map feature where i drag the pdf's onto the image.
But now, after i have all the pdf's in the portfolio, i want to replace/update some of the pdf files.
I can't see an option anywhere to do this?
    Is it possible???
    Thanks

In the Find window (Ctrl+F) there's an option to replace the searched text.
This is in Acrobat XI, and there's no Replace All-function.

  • PDF portfolio view in Adobe reader

    Hi,
I recently created a PDF portfolio for a co-worker using Acrobat 9.0 Pro. I used the Grid with File Preview layout and added a header that appears right above the grid. Everything works well except that when my co-worker opens the PDF portfolio in Adobe Reader,  I think it's 9.0, the preview pane takes up most of the screen so that the grid and header are barely visible. Of course, all my co-worker has to do is move the divider over to the right so that the divider is around the middle of the screen, then he can clearly see the complete grid along with the header.
Is there anyway to make my PDF portfolio open up in Reader so that the dividing line is right in the middle between the grid and preview pane so that the grid and header are clearly visible without having to move the divider? Also, I encountered the same problem when I tried to use a welcome window. In Acrobat 9.0, the welcome window is dead center over the grid and the preview pane is invisible unless I click to proceed. However, when I open the PDF portfolio in Reader, the welcome window only appears in the grid section and again, the gird section is mostly covered up by the preview pane.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • PDF Portfolio, broken in 9.4.6 also...... not funny Adobe...

PDF portfolio on Linux broke in 9.4.2, with newly released 9.4.6 it's still broken. It has been broken since February. I wonder if Adobe takes these things seriously, for sure it doesn't look that way. Many governmental institutes  use portfolios, so please make an effort and fix it

as per Joel's recommendation, used 4.5 instead - that worked just fine

  • PDF or PDF Portfolio?

I am looking to build a document which would be a collection of multiple pdf files on various topics.  I would like to be able to have an accessible/user
friendly table of contents bar/page where users  can choose a section to read, but also read the whole collection if they choose to.   Should I build this in PDF portfolio mode or regular pdf mode?  I want it to read like a magazine.
Also, how do I best create a index/table of contents to the document to make it user friendly?

    Hi,
Hoping you could help.  I have been able to work with most software, but have found working with Adobe Acrobat quite challenging and not terribly intuitive or user friendly.
Could you send me the link where to post this correctly please?  I searched all over on Friday for the right place and thought my forum spot would be just fine.
    Thanks,
    Liz Waldron
