PDF Portfolios from V9 to VX

Below (first paragraph) is what I understand. My question follows paragraph. Thanks.
When you open a 9 portfolio in X, the 9 design appears as expected. Minor editing is allowed (add or delete files, edit filenames or descriptions) and can be saved in 9 format. HOWEVER, for extensive edits you must convert the portfolio to X. Then, the layout and colors convert to Click-Through layout with the Clean visual theme. Welcome pages, headers, color palettes from 9 are removed. Headers can be re-done but Welcome pages (which we use) are not supported.
So, can't do Welcome Page like I have in V9 portfolio. But, does anyone know the look/feel customization capabilities for a portfolio in X? Are custom colors allowed? How about a company logo? Is list view gone in X (user has to click through one or a handful of docs at a time)? Layout capabilities are limited in X (not like those in V9)?

You can customize Portfolios in Acrobat X (and XI) in two ways - using Flex you can create Layouts (these define how the cards behave and animate). Using Flash Pro and Illustrator you can then apply Themes (skins) to change the color and style of the elements.
Welcome screens do not exist, you can create something vaguely like them using a custom Layout but it won't have the same functionality. Joel Geraci at http://blog.practicalpdf.com has some free examples of custom designs but writing your own is a far-from-trivial Flex programming task.
See these tutorials - first one is an overview of what's possible, second is a Tech Talk recording of the process of making a Theme:

  • How do I create a single PDF Portfolio from an Outlook 2011 email with multiple non-pdf attachments?

    How do I create a single PDF Portfolio from an Outlook 2011 email with multiple non-pdf attachments?
    Email has 3 attachments--some are not pdf. I'd like all three converted into pdf files along with the email itself, and all appear in the email's pdf portfolio.

    I would also like an answer to this question.
    I am trying to convert an Outlook email to a PDF, then all attachment are appended to the PDF as pages instead of attachments.

  • I have trouble creating a pdf portfolio from Outlook: the result does not have "From" or "Subject"

    I have trouble creating a pdf portfolio from Outlook: it creates the portfolio, but the result does not have "From" or "Subject" in the index.  Please help!

    Thank you, I am aware of this function.  The fields are present, but blank.  (It seems that the data is not getting exported…)
    Please keep trying to help me!

  • How do I create a pdf portfolio from multiple .msg email files including all attachments in a single step process?

    I have tried creating the portfolio from Outlook directly, but only the first email is viewable in the portfolio including a hyperlink to the attachment (but the attachment is missing otherwise). This seems to be a setting issue, but I have had no luck with finding any setting options to change this.
    I have also tried to create a portfolio from my desktop but when opening the portfolio, nothing shows up as if it didn't take the .msg files.
    The obvious option of creating a pdf from each individual email and combining it with the pdf attachment would take forever and is unrealistic as the emails are in thousands.
    Thanks for your time and help on this issue!

    Hey Bob%20Sacks,
    Could you please specify what version of Acrobat are you using.
    You can go to Preferences under Adobe PDF option in the menu bar and choose 'Include all attachments' option under Attachments label.
    Then, select the desired messages in Outlook and create a PDF portfolio by right-clicking and choosing Convert to Adobe PDF option from the context menu.
    Now, open the portfolio and it will appear as shown in the screenshot below:
    You can view all your files by clicking on the navigation arrows on the left-hand side.

  • How can I save an attachment from PDF portfolio from a datagrid display?

    The reason I need this is a client is limited to a certain version of reader where this functionality is missing from the file menu. (10.0.1).
    I was thinking either a right click on the item (custom context menu), or a save button elsewhere on the form.
    As a bit of extra information, I am developing using flex 3.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    Chris

    To be honest, the data grid isn't even important. I would just like to be able to select a file and save it with a button on my pdf.

  • Need to create a PDF Portfolio programatically using the Adobe SDK in C# from a Windows Service.

    What classes/methods should I be using?
    We need to create a PDF portolio from a windows service written in C#.
    We need to merge several PDF documents into a single PDF portfolio from our windows service (programatically).
    I have seen documentation in the Adobe help on how to do it using the Adobe UI, but we need to do this step programatically from our windows servie.
    Thanks!

    You can't access Acrobat from a service - since we won't run in Service mode...only in standard Application mode.  In addition, we don't run on a server.
    But if you were doing this from a standard application - then you'll want to read the JavaScript documentation in the SDK as well as the documents about the .NET/JS bridge.

    I know extract data from one PDF document, but i need to get PDFs from portfolio. Can you HELP? Thanks.....

    Hello,
    I am not sure if this will help. However, I can export data from a portfolio to excel by doing the following:
    I extract all the pages from the portfolio into single PDFs
    I open the first PDF
    Click on Tools
    Under Forms, I select More From Options
    I select Merge Data Files into Spreadsheet
    The pop-up box allows you to add all of the additional files that you made from the portfolio
    Click on them then click Export
    It will ask for a file name and place to save it.

  • Adobe PDF Portfolio - Preview Mode Displaying Incorrect Pages

    I have created a PDF portfolio using the “Grid” template in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. The Portfolio contains three pdf files. I am getting the following problem when I open the pdf Portfolio in Adobe Reader X and XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Open the PDF portfolio
    Click on pdf3
    Preview mode displays the correct document and pages.
    Close the preview of pdf3
    Click on pdf2
    Preview mode displays pages from pdf3,not pdf2 (see screenshot below).
    Some observations:
    If pdf1 has two pages, and pdf2 has ten pages, pdf2’s preview contains pdf 1 (pages 1-2)  and then pdf2 (pages 3-10).
    If I continue to open pdfs the preview contains pages from all the pdfs I have opened in the portfolio (this depends on how many pages the document I am currently previewing has). It is not just caching the last pdf opened.
    Preview mode always displays the correct NUMBER of pages (i.e., if there are ten pages in a pdf, there will be ten pages in the preview. They will just be the wrong pages).
    Turning off local page cache (preferences > page display) does not fix the problem.
    Adobe Reader is up-to-date and Flash is up-to-date. I have replicated the problem on different computers, and in Adobe Reader X and XI, and Pro XI. I have also created muliple pdf portfolios from scratch to confirm the pdf portfolio itself wasn't corrupt.
    Does anyone have an idea what is happening? Users are getting very confused when their preview shows them a completely different document.
    Thanks for any help

    We have the same problem. Everything's up to date. Adobe needs to address this issue!! The portfolio feature is a great idea, but this glitch basically ruins it. If you come by this page with the same problem, make sure you leave a reply. Maybe Adobe will actually pay attention if there are enough complaints.

  • How do I rearrange sections of a pdf portfolio?

    I am putting together a PDF portfolio from 7 different pdf files, but when loaded in they were in the wrong order. Now I want to move them around before publishin it. How do I do that??? Adobe 9 Pro

    Hi,
    My question also!  You don't seem to be able to drag and drop that I can see.  I've found a work around from a book.  I'm not great at describing it but you may get the idea.
    In the specify file button on the right when you have the portfolio open in edit mode.  You want to add a column to display, name it 'order' and choose number to the right, then hit the 'plus' button.  Then check only 'order' in the list of how to sort.
    Then go to the column in the list view, and click on the space to the right of the document icon and under order, and put a numbers in the order you want the document to be, like 1, 2, etc.
    Then you can sort in the order you want.
    Anyone else have the answer?  I wonder why you can't drag and drop here.
    I keep thinking there is an easier way!

  • Issues with downloading a PDF Portfolio

    I have been trying to open a PDF portfolio from a website for work documents, and for a couple of days now I have not been able to get Adobe to work the way it should. When I open the document on the website it tells me "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in
    Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or later." I have downloaded Acrobat and it still will not open. When I try to save the document and open it on my computer it gives me this error "To view the Flash® technology content in this PDF file, please install this version of Flash Player that supports Adobe® Reader® and Acrobat®." When I try to download the flash player it gives me an error saying it failed to install.
    I need to get these documents ASAP. I have tried opening on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. I am using an updated (as of the other day) Mac.

    What is your operating system?  Browser?  Reader version?
    I suggest that you download the PDF to your local disk first, then open it from there.

  • Creating PDF Portfolio  in ES2.

    Hi  ,
    I have created DDX  file and  previewed the same in Assembler Descripter   editor , am  able to create PDF portfolio  and save it  into local system.
    The DDX  :
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/">
      <PDF result="Untitled 1">
        <Portfolio>
          <Navigator source="mysrc"/>
          <ColorScheme scheme="pinkScheme"/>
        </Portfolio>
        <PackageFiles>
          <PDF source="sourcePDF1"/>
          <PDF source="sourcePDF2"/>
        </PackageFiles>
      </PDF>
      <?ddx-source-hint name="mysrc"?>
      <?ddx-source-hint name="sourcePDF1"?>
      <?ddx-source-hint name="sourcePDF2"?>
    </DDX>
    Used above DDX  file to genarate  the PDF Portfolio thru Activity  "AssemblerService -  Invoke DDX ", I  hope I genarated the PDF Portfolio, but i  don't know how to   retrive  the  PDF portfolio from AssemblerResult output Variable.
    I  got same log files in both  cases ....So  assuming  that Process created PDF Portfolio.
    But I dont know how to  get the PDF portfolio from AssemblerResult and store into local system.
    Please help  me to get PDF Portfolio from AssemblerRequest  output variable.
    Attached AssemblerResult as attachment.
    Thanks
    Praveen

    I've always done it in a two step process (done all in one setValue operation):
    1 - assign the resulting documents to a Map[document] object using the xpath:
    /process_data/myMap =   /process_data/assemblerResult/object/documents
    2 - get the correct response from the map.  The map's key name will be the same as is in your DDX's result tag.  In your case "Untitled 1"
    /process_data/@myDoc = /process_data/myMap[@id="Untitled 1"]
    With ES2 you can include the /process_data/@myDoc right in the DDX
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/">
      <PDF result="process:///process_data/@myDoc">
        <Portfolio>

  • Is there any way to print multiple attachments from an Adobe PDF Portfolio without having to open each attachent individually?

    We have a large PDF Portfolio with many attachments and would like to print those items all at once without opening every single attachment. I would think think that this is possible considering I took the files from outlook 2003 and you are able to print an email and its attachments in that program. If anyone knows how to do this, I would appreciate the help.

    Portfolios only support the printing of PDF files (more specifically, PDF files whose security permissions allow printing). You can print all PDF files in a Portfolio without opening them all simply by opening the Portfolio and clicking on the print button in the Portfolio toolbar. If desired, you can also limit it to a selection of PDF files.
    Unfortunately non-PDF files will need to be opened and printed individually from their respective apps.

  • Export Index from PDF Portfolio

    I need to compare two large PDF Portfolio documents. From what I can tell, there is currently no third party software around that will do this so I'm trying to figure out a way around it. Each Portfolio that I'm working with has over a thousand email messages exported from Outlook and the corresponding attachments. I know that an "Index" was created when I exported the messages because I can see the pane that lists all the typical details in an index with sortable column headers (i.e., From, Subject, Date, Size, etc...). I'm trying to figure out a way to export only this indexed information into a .csv or other delimited file so I can create unique IDs and compare the documents using Excel. From what I've read, the "Edit" button is one way to try this but for some reason, when Outlook converts messages to a PDF Portfolio, it also removes the ability to use the "Edit" tool. Does anyone know of a way to export just the index information or if there's a hidden index file somewhere? Please let me know.
    Thanks,

    You are correct that the Portfolios created by the mail client plugins are not editable. They use a special layout which does not exist as an editable master layout in Acrobat.
    It's possible to export the rows of data from the 'details' view using JavaScript, but those fields don't contain the body of the message so you will only get the headers (to, from, date, etc.). If this is all you need, follow these instructions:
    Switch to the Cover Sheet view from the View > Portfolio menu
    Open the javaScript console (Ctrl-J) and clear it with the trashcan icon
    Paste in the code which follows, select it all, then press Ctrl+Enter to execute it.
    // code follows
    var d = this.dataObjects;
    var csv = '';
        if (d) {
        cfl = this.collection.fields.length;
        tx_cols = new Array();
        tx_names = new Array();
        for (i = 0; i < cfl; i++) {
          tx_cols.push(this.collection.fields[i].text);
          tx_names.push(this.collection.fields[i].name);
            csv = tx_cols.join() + "\r\n";
            for (var i = 0; i < d.length; i++) {
          tx_data = new Array();
          for (var r = 0; r < cfl; r++) {
            tx_data.push(d[i].getFieldValue(tx_names[r]));
          csv += tx_data.join() + "\r\n";
        this.createDataObject({cName:"EmailData.csv", cValue:csv,cMIMEType:'text/csv'});
        this.exportDataObject("EmailData.csv");
        this.removeDataObject("EmailData.csv");

  • Is it possibile to retrieve .nav from pdf portfolio?

    Hi all!
    There is any way to retrieve the .nav file from pdf portfolio? Is it possible?
    Thanks

    Perhaps? It depends whether the space it occupied has been overwritten. There are various undelete tools ranging from free (if hard to track down) upwards... Some can only recover recently deleted items if they can find the deleted folders, so almost any new data written to the device may prevent them from working. Others can inspect every block of data on the drive and reconstruct almost any type of file that hasn't been actually overwritten.

  • Can I add a password to a PDF portfolio created from multiple emails?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how I can add a password to a PDF portfolio that I created by converting several emails into a PDF?
    Thanks in advance for your invaluable help!
    -Matt

    When viewing a Portfolio the classic Tools Pane is not visible, so you cannot apply security in the usual way.
    Instead, open the properties dialog (menu > File > Portfolio Properties) and select the Security tab. Change the dropdown field to "password security" and the dialog box will appear to enter the permissions information.
