PDF Portfolios updating pdf's within portfolio

I'm working on a pdf portfolio, is there a way to update the pdf's in the portfolio without deleting them and adding them again?
I don't see any options for re-linking or updating the pdf's once you add them?

You have no control over how your email maybe rendered by other email servers and client side software.
Attachment Tamer may give you a few more options but it does not guaranty the end result.

  • Cross-linking to other pdfs within portfolio

Does anyone know how I can make a link to point to an individual pdf file within a portfolio that is separate from the pdf file that's linking to it, also in the same portfolio?
I have a Portfolio containing 1) a folder of individual pdf files and 2) another folder containing a huge monster pdf.
I would like to link from the monster to the individual files so that someone using it can open up one file at a time via the monster - but can't seem to do this using just the portfolio.
On my desktop on my Mac, I have a folder that contains the monster folder, the individual files folder, and the portfolio itself.
But creating links on the monster to the individual has to be done within the monster pdf and then uploaded to the portfolio, right?
Making a link to go to a page view or to open a file requires me to point to the individual pdf file within the folder on my desktop and  not in the portfolio.  Unless I'm totally missing something.
I could include the folder of individual files separately along with the portfolio, but that defeats the whole purpose of including everything into the portfolio.
Anyone have experience doing something similar?
I am using Acrobat Pro 9 for mac.
    Thanks in advance!

To edit a member document inside a Portfolio you have to open it (using the Open File link on the toolbar) - when it's previewing on a card you are just looking at a JPEG image.
It's all rather messy but Adobe don't allow access to the regular tools if the Portfolio mode is active, so..
    Open your Portfolio
Open the file in which the link is to be created (right-click the card or use the toolbar button)
Use the Link tool to draw the active area
Select "go to a Page View" and click OK.
While the mini-dialog is active, switch back to the window with the Portfolio in it.
Open the destination file (again with the right-click or toolbar button).
Choose the page and click to fire the Link tool's mini-dialog.
    Close the target file.
Save and close the source file.
    Save the Portfolio.
If you're doing hundreds of links, set aside a week.

  • Copy PDF within Portfolio

Feature Request: Copy PDF within Portfolio
Within an Acrobat Portfolio, you cannot select a PDF, drag the selection with the CTRL, and have Acrobat make a copy of the PDF. The "copy" and "paste" are grey when a PDF is selected. Often I want to make a copy of a PDF and make numerous modifications to the copy. Currently, I have to export the original PDF, and then import it again with a different name to make a copy in the Portfolio. I hope you can add this feature. Thanks

With Adobe Reader you can copy data, but to create a new PDF with the copied data you need Acrobat or http://createpdf.acrobat.com/

  • Populating Fields from one PDF to another in Acrobat 9 Portfolio

I have several PDFs in a portfolio but I would like the Name, Address etc fields to populate into the next PDF after they are entered into the first PDF in the portfolio. I know this would be simple if all the PDFs were merged into a single file with the field name the same, but I need the PDFs within the portfolio to stay separate as each is a distinct form.
Any suggestions? Is there a better way to link these PDFs together instead of using a Portfolio? I would like them all to open at the same time which is why I initial chose to use a portfolio.
    Thanks in advance.

It's possible, but not necessarily easy to set up. Below are links to a two-part article that explains an approach:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/07/shared_data_in_packages_part_1.html
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/07/shared_data_in_packages_part_2.html
Note that he describes an approach that is extremely security conscious, and is therefore more complicated as a result. I'm not saying this is bad, but the threat it seeks to avoid is pretty darn rare for most folks. That is, rougue PDFs that you have loaded that are attempting to grab data from other documents you may have opened.
The article focuses on XFA forms that are created with LiveCycle Designer, but the same type of thing could be used for forms created in Acrobat. You'll just have to modify the XFA-specific stuff to use with acroforms.

  • Change Portfolio With 1 PDF To Normal PDF

    Hi
I have PDFed a whole load of emails individually and they are each being treated as a portfolio.
When I try and batch print them as PDF images, an error icon about needing Adobe Acrobat/Reader 9 is created instead of the email. On the emails where the PDF is not acting as a portfolio, there is no problem printing to an image
My question is how to change PDFs that are acting as portfolios (with only one file in them) into bog standard PDFs.

    Hi,
The problem I have is that I have around 1000 of these PDF portfolio emails. I need to print them all as images to a new PDF file. Each portfolio only has one PDF in it.
If I drag all the portfolio PDFs into a new portfolio and try to batch print, they all get printed with an error message about needing Acrobat or Reader 9.  When I use the same process for "normal" PDFs, it works very well.
So what I want to do is remove the portfolio nature of these PDFs. Other than opening each one, dragging out the PDF and renaming it, is there another method to getting rid of the portfolio nature of the PDF?

  • Links within portfolio not working for me

    Acrobat 9; Word2007;XP
I gave up trying to have links correctly transfer from msword to pdfs.  So I am manually creating each one in the portfolio i'm building.
Problem:   The links are not preserved after I save the portfolio and re-open it.
Setup:  I have a single portfolio with a structure of folders, subfolders and pdf files (all the files in the portfolio are pdf)
The links I'm referring to are all within the individual pdf files. They link to other pdf s within the portfolio (pdf-2-pdf).  There are no external links.
The link control is a small button image.
Link creation.   1.  The way I create a link is to open acrobat 9 in modify/edit mode.  Do  tools>advanced editing>link tool.
                              2.   I  drag the crosshair  over the image and get  a 'go to page/set link' popup.
(the old link is usually some  localhost link via some temp folder that drills down to the original source file. I have to delete this old link  before A 9  will give me the new 'set link' option)
                             3.   with the set-link panel visible, I open the file I want to be a target set the position, zoom, etc. while that file is open; then press the set-link button.
                             4.   I close the open pdf and return to the porfolio view with the source page and  link on it.
Results:       The links work fine as long as I stay in the portfolio.  If I save it and close out of acrobat and then reopen and load the portfolio, the links are pointing to the original external source files and don't work.
Problem - I'm obviously missing something.  I'd  have thought links to files inside the portfolio would be local to the portfolio.  It's what I need them to be.  When the portfolio is sent, it's not going to be dragging the original files along with it - pdf or msword ( i hope not).  So what gives?  What do I fail to understand? How do I correct the problem. (one question really - I just broke it down into parts.. ?=).
I'd sure love to know what the heck is going on.
(ps I have checked my settings creating the pdfs and they were set to convert bookmarks, save urls and anything else I could find that remotely resembled something useful.  I also have red Joel's tips.  Nothing helpful there.  )

Hmm...I think I see the confusion.
In the black and red samples, we use one XML file to list the
galleries whilch then loads each individual photos.xml file.
My photo album tutorial just uses one photos.xml file. I make
one dataset to get the images and another dataset to get the
    photographer info.
So go one step at a time. Take gallery_finished.htm and add
your photos and thumbs to the folders.
Then replace your XML file with the existing one. Open in the
browser and it should work. Make sure that your XML nodes are the
    same as the sample one.
The page you have now shows that 'photos.xml' is in the same
folder as gallery_finished.htm. So make sure your path is correct.
Either move the XML file to the same folder or edit
gallery_finished.htm so that the path to the XML file is correct.
I know that quick success is important for keeping with a
project, at least for me. So we want to get this working for you.
    Hope this helps,
    Donald Booth

  • I lost my ability to view PDFs with update and Lion install. Says "plugin missing", please help?!?!

I lost my ability to view PDFs with update and Lion install. Says "plugin missing", please help?!?!
I am trying to finish up a paper for my masters and now I am stuck because the library website won't work without PDF

Adobe has a knowledgebase article on this.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html
    Acrobat family
Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, which will ship with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6 in July 2011. Adobe Reader and Acrobat will continue to work as standalone applications on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6, and will render PDF documents outside of the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins will not function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.
    Recommendation to Customers/Users:
For Acrobat customers who utilize functionality like forms, digital signatures, portfolios, guides, 3D, extended PDFs and rights management, and who require the Acrobat plug-in to render PDF documents in the Safari browser, Adobe recommends that you continue to use Safari 5.0.x and Mac OS X 10.6. We will provide updates as we continue to investigate this issue.

  • Flattening a PDF moves stamps that exist within the document.

    Hello,
I'm running Adobe Pro 9 and I have PDFs that contain multiple pages some of which contain stamps. When I flatten the file to make uneditable it will move the stamps to different areas on the same page they're on. Is there an option in PDF Fixups that will stop that from happening?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Dave,
I installed updates when I first encountered the problem. My user verified that it is indeed happening to all of the PDFs she flattens. Prior to going into PDF fixups and flattening, she would print the PDF document to PDF which would finalize it. The issue she was having with that was that it would start the process but within 5 seconds the message would pop up indicating that the job was done, the document would open but less than half of the pages would convert over. So a 145 page PDF would only show 20 pages after it was printed to PDF. I'll take a look at my flattener tool thank you for your response Dave.

  • Exporting from InDesign to PDF, and the updated PDF is larger than a month ago and not printing easily on letter paper, it is PDF presets?

    Hello,
I am exporting from InDesign to a PDF and the page is larger in the PDF then others I have exported. Is this because of the PDF presents? One of the project managers is not able to print it out on 8.5 x 11 paper, but the document presets for InDesign are the same as before. I wish I could upload the PDFs to show, but the newly exported PDF is larger than the version I created a month ago. I created a PDF binder and the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets. Any thoughts?

I suspect the project manager simply has his/her copy of Reader/Acrobat set to print at actual size, rather than "Fit" (assuming the InDesign page size is truly 8.5 x 11).
..the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets.
It would have nothing to do with export presets. How are you determining that half-inch difference?

  • Creating a PDF-File from a report within a service

    Hello,
I have to create PDF-Files from a report within a windows service.
My source is as follows (quick and dirty) using Microsoft Report Viewer 2012
    Imports Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms
    Dim reportViewer1 As New Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer()
    Dim objRDLC As New Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.LocalReport()

    'Clean up
    newFile.Dispose()

Unfortunately, it is not a piece of code that I can send. The SQL would be embedded inside Oracle Reports tool, and you would have the option to save the output of the report in PDF format.
Once you have the Oracle Report developed, you can execute it from command line prompt and save the output to a pdf file. In your case, the cursor would be embedded inside Oracle Report

I have a suspicion you're working with a scanned document that has had OCR run to recognize the text. The recognized text may be stored on an invisible layer above the image of the text, and that is what you're toucing up. It's invisible, so you don't see it, but retains the changes, so exporting produces the new edits.
When you run OCR to recognize scanned text,, try using the ClearScan option, instead of Searchable Text. See this help page on Acrobat (this is for version X, but still applies):

  • Create PDF from a Word document within Acrobat

    Hi!
I am having trouble to create a PDF from a Word document within Acrobat itself, and not by using PDF Maker in Word. When I try to create a PDF using Acrobat, it gives me the choice to choose any Office format file, but Word format doesn't appear. I can convert from an Excel document or a PowerPoint document, but not from a Word document, even if Word 2010 is installed and works perferctly. Why?
I know I can make a PDF in Word itself by printing to the Adobe PDF printer or by using PDF Maker, but I want to resolve the issue in Acrobat that prevents me to select a Word document in the Create PDF dialog window. You can see the dialog box in the screenshot attached.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I am using Acrobat X version 10.1.8 on Windows 7 Home Premium and I have Office 2010 installed (with Word 2010).

Thanks for your reply. PDF Maker works in all of my Office applications. However, in Acrobat, the file formats available for me to create PDF from figure all the Office file formats except the one for Word. This is not normal. At my school, Acrobat X and Office 2007 are installed, and I can use there both PDF Maker in Word and creating PDF from Word document within Acrobat.
So I think maybe there's a key in my Windows registry that is not set correctly? or something like that. I repaired the installation of Office 2010, and I did so for Acrobat X too, but it doesn't help. Any idea of how I can resolve that?

  • IE9 doesn't reflect updated PDF file but instead reflects from cached version

First, I apologise if this issue might be discussed/resolved somewhere, but if you have any solutions/ideas to what my issue might be, please help to share. And thank you in advance.
We have been using/filling PDF forms to generate dynamic FDF data. The URL/path to the PDF file is set inside the text/data of the generated FDF. The PDF file with the FDF data are shown to the browser. But with IE9, the browser always reflects cached version of PDF file, and not the updated version.  This is working fine for years in IE6..IE8, the updated PDF file with the dynamic FDF data are shown correctly. But in IE9, the FDF data is dynamically updated but the PDF file still shows the old version, which I think is from the cache.
In my testing, either I emptied the IE’s cache or set the Internet Option to check for newer versions of the page then it will reflects the updated PDF File. I tried Ctrl-F5 (to force refresh) too but no avail. I used Acrobat Reader 9 & 11, both having same problem, running on Windows 7.

Hi Pat. Thanks for your reply.
Actually, I already been checking any IE9 options that might be different from IE8, and tried to change "Security" settings also but still can't get the updated PDF file. Maybe you have in mind where I can specifically check and try out?
I have tried IE10, but also encounter the same problem. sigghhhh
I have been using this for years but no problem, this PDF/FDF document application is developed/created using Acrobat Professional ver6 and FDFtoolkit.

  • IE 9.0 doesn't show updated PDF instead shows from cached version

IE 9.0 always shows cached version of PDF file not updated one. Can i know what is the cause of this issue in IE. Actually same issue was occur in IE 8.0 but i've changed security setting to default. As a result, IE8.0 shows updated PDF not from cache version.
But same workaround doesn't sort out this issue in IE 9.0.
I'd appreciate to providing solution to this.

I was having the same issue.  I don't know what CTRL+F5 is supposed to do, but it didn't seem to do anything for me.
I finally saw the updated PDF in IE 9 when I opened Internet Options from the Gear/Tools icon, going to the General Tab and the Browsing History Section, clicking on the Settings Button and changing the radio button for "Check for newer versions of the page"
to "Every Time I Visit the Webpage" instead of "Automatically."  Bummer, overall longer loading times.
Since my colleagues were able to see the updated PDF in IE9 and I couldn't, it points to browser caching going on, not server caching. Deleting the Temporary Internet Files did not fix this issue.  I did not have this problem in IE8 and was automatically
    upgraded to IE9.
Why doesn't deleting the Temporary Internet Files delete the cached version of the PDF?  Where is this cache?

  • Updating pdf files in iweb site

I have a site with several pdf files linked throughout the site. These pdf's get updated regularly, and I assumed that if I replace them with a new file named the same, it would update on the website. Strangely it does not.
The only way I can get the pdf links to go to the new document is to break the link and then re-establish it. Even though the old file doesn't exist any more (has been replaced), it still persistently shows up.
While I can continue to do this, it is tedious as multiple documents are linked on multiple pages throughout the site.
Have tried publish and publish all. Is their any way to force iweb to use the new pdf files, or is there a different way to link them in the first place?
The whole idea was so that multiple people could upload content to my public folder (schedules, lists, etc) in pdf and update the info without having to mess with the site.

Instead of creating a hyperlink and then choose a file, put the pdf(s) on the server yourself first.
Create a separate folder for them.
Then determine the URL(s) to the file(s).
In iWeb add a hyperlink *to an external page*. Use one of the URLs to the pdfs.
Now you can update the pdf without iWeb.
