PDF Preset problems

Since updating InDesign last night I now only have japanese presets when trying to create a pdf.
I have followed the helpon the web and gone into users/application support/Adobepdf/extras to put the .joboption files into settings but there is nothing of relevance. Any ideas?

On mine the Extras folder holds the Japanese .joboptions files; the Settings folder holds the others.

  • CS3/4 JS: PDF preset problem

I'm having a hard time with an option in the pdfExportPresets. I can change almost everything, but not ExportLayersOptions. I'm trying this:
    p = app.pdfExportPresets.item ('[Press Quality]').duplicate();
    p.exportWhichLayers = ExportLayerOptions.exportVisibleLayers;
For good measure I tried the numeric enumeration as well: p.exportWhichLayers = 1702393452, but that didn't improve things. All the other options that I tried worked fine, it's just this one that's stuck at Visible & Printable.
    Any comments welcome.
    Thanks,

    Hi Loic,
    Is beforeClose cancelable?
    Try:
    alert(myEvent.cancelable);
If false, you can't prevent default behavior.

  • Recent Problem with PDF Preset

For a long time I've been able to use the "Adobe PDF Preset" options to create various-size PDF files.  However, there appeared to be an Acrobat update today.  When I went to export a file as a low-res PDF, the only option that came up in the "Preset" drop down was "custom."  I tried exporting a PDF, and the result was a PDF the same size as the native file.  I'm using CS5.5.  Any help would greatly appreciated.

InDesign has never EXPORTed PDF to any size other than the document size...

  • PDF presets not showing up in indesign CC

    Hi,
We have about 28 CC users on mac (mavericks), and we've just started using Indesign CC within the last month or so.
My problem is that we are 'deploying' via remote desktop, a standard set of PDF presets so everyone have the same settings. This works fine on cs3-cs6. But for some reason it does not work with indesign CC. CC wil only show the presets that are in the users/xxx/Application support/Adobe PDF/Settings folder and not the ones from the default folder /Library/Application support/adobe/adobe PDF/settings .
I can add them by either loading the presets in indesign one by one, on every single mac, or manually  also on every single mac, put the presets in the users folder, but both options really suck. Mind you we change presets very often, so this is really not ideal for me.
Hope someone can help direct me to the master PDF preset folder for CC - The one folder who rules them all !!!

  • Pdf/x-4 2010 pdf preset made via Indesign not compatible with Illustrator?

    Hello all
I am working with a digital printing company and want to create a pdf preset that they can distribute to their customers to help make sure pdfs are properly made for their workflow. We've tested pdf/x-4 on their equipment and want to make that standard the base for their preset.
I made a preset in IndesignCC which shows up and is accessible in InDesignCC and PhotoshopCC, but is not accessible in IllustratorCC. It does not show up in the presets list in the "save as... pdf" dialogue. It does show up in the Edit>Adobe PDF Presets function though.
When I attempt to load the .joboptions file into Illustrator via that Adobe PDF Presets function I get the error "The preset is not recognized as a valid .joboptions file."
I noticed that IllustratorCC is using the pdf/x-4 (2008) standard, while InDesignCC is using the pdf/x-4 (2010).
Is IllustratorCC not yet compatible with the 2010 standard? If not, this is a serious wrench in the pdf preset workflow that allows the applications to share .joboptions files amongt themselves.
Any thoughts or help solving the problem of sharing that InDesign Generated preset with Illustrator would be much appreciated.

Hi jdanek, thanks for replying. PDF/x-4 supports transparency natively, supports multiple color spaces (this allows the vendor's rips to handle color conversion), and is an excellent option for their PDF print engine workflow. They want a custom variety that sets the resolution, bleed, etc. to give to their customers.
I did resolve the issue by making a new preset in Illustrator. That one is also available in InDesign and Photoshop but still, I'm curious as to why the InDesign-made preset is not compatible with Illustrator.

  • Lost Ability to Choose PDF presets in all CS5 Suite

I am no longer able choose a pdf preset when saving a pdf from any application in the creative suite (Print, Screen, etc.) I can choose "Program Default" and custom. I don't recall if I've even tried to save at any of these sizes since installing CS5, so maybe they are just gone?
I also don't recall what updates may have happened to start this problem. I seem to remember doing a Mac system update that had an acrobat/reader update, but I'm not 100%.
Has anyone else encountered this? Fixes?

  • InDesign PDF Presets Bug

    Hello everyone,
I have noted this problem since cs5 version came out but I am reporting it now. Well, here is the thing: if I have some multi page or single page document in InDesign and I want to export it in some of Adobe PDF Presets for printing for example like [PDF/X - 4:2008] as usual I get the progress how much of the pages are exported and when progress dialog is gone when I go to the location of the exported PDF i get 0kb PDF file. So there is nothing in it and when I try to open it it reports error. After few minutes passed I see size of the PDF is changed and exported PDF is there now and it can be opened. So basically after export progress is finished at start you won't have any data in exported PDF and after couple of minutes passed it will fill that PDF with exported data. So does any of you have experienced such behavior? I think this is a bug and this behavior is tested and confirmed on Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Windows 7 64bit.
    Best regards,
    Ratko Asanovic

Here's a few things I wished the Background Task did.
    1. The Indicator in the Control be clickable to open the panel (else add a background tasks button where the other buttons are Guide Screen Mode and Arrange Documents)
    2. The list of Background Tasks performed remained and you can open the PDF from the background task panel. The point of the background panel is to allow you to work while pdfs are being generated. Well if I'm working I don't want a PDF jumping up when the option is clicked in the settings to open the pdf. Instead I'd prefer the Background Panel icon to turn Green or something when PDFs are in the Background Panel. That would give me a visual indicator that I have PDFs created that need to be looked at in Acrobat. I can then open the panel via the shortcut on the control bar and commence checking my PDFs created that day.
It just falls a little short for me at the moment.

  • Error loading/saving PDF presets

    Error loading/saving pdf presets
I am using CS4 and Windows 7. I have a .joboptions file I want to load in InDesign, but when I try, I get the error message: Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected.
I am a local administrator on the computer.
I have tried manually copying the .joboptions file into the folder C:\Users\<my profile>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings, but it doesn’t show up in the list of available presets.
I used the same version of InDesign with Windows XP and was able to load and save presets this way just fine.

Thank for the tip. But unfortunately it is only a partial solution.
When I 'run as administrator' in Windows 7 I have no problems, that is a bit of a solution, but for me it is a mere workaround.
I want to find out how I can load and save PDF export settings without running as Adminstrator, since we have 7 people using the presets and they don't want to run InDesign everytime as an Administrator.
I have all the rights (local admin) to all folders, therefore I was hoping somebody already fixed this in his/her system...
Hope Adobe comes up with some sort of solution for this apperently Windows 7 problem.

  • IDCS2 default pdf presets do not appear and cannot be loaded

after upgrading to cs2 the default pdf presets in indesign and illustrator do not appear. the job options files are in the correct folder: library/application support/adobe/adobe pdf/settings, but the dial icon does not appear (it's a gray box instead).
i am also not able to make new presets or load any presets. i get the error message "cannot create the file. the folder may be write protected" or "cannot import presets from this file".
i have uninstalled and reinstalled cs2 and acrobat 8 several times to no avail. i've also repaired permissions.
i have tried the adobe phone support, and they suggest it is my operating system?
    any ideas?
    Power book G4 17" osx 10.4.10

I noticed this being a problem under Leopard and the update for 8.1.2 of Acrobat Pro. I just Can not get those .joboptions settings to load into IDCS2.. The permissions are set the same as those on working Macs (who are running Tiger BTW). I then opened Distiller and manually loaded each setting and resaved them out- The icons show as being .joboptions files-
IDCS2 still won't see them. It won't have anything to do with them. Oddball stuff- not every computer has the problem only those with the combination of Leopard and the Acrobat update applied. I don't have any leopard Macs with 8.1.1 or 8.1 installed so I can't report on that.

  • PDF Presets and Large Documents (High Page and Link Count)

I created an 824-page book using InDesign CS3 (577 image links - all photoshop or illustrator CS3), all in a single file. When I try to use the PDF presets to create a PDF file(doesn't matter what quality), InDesign crashes. I checked all of the links etc. and everything is okay. If I separate the file into three separate books, I can create a PDF from each. Is there a limit to the number of pages that InDesign can handle? Is it possible that my laptop doesn't have enough resources?
    Any help would be appreciated!

It would be nice if there was a log file created during a failure. But that would require more resources and compound the problem.
There is no doubt that the corporate issued Dell is a low-resource machine.
In the end, this book will be modular so chapters can be added or subtracted as required by the audience. I'll just create three separate mini-books or I'll transfer everything to my machine before processing.
    Thanks for the info.

  • PDF presets

I've created a file in inDesign, exported it using High Quality print (PDF presets) and my Canon ImagePRESS (dropped the .pdf in Creo) is taking forever and a day to print. Should I use the Press Quality option? There are a lot of images and transparency is used a lot as well. But, its never taken this long... I'm printing a book of about 8 pages, it may take 5-7 minutes per book. Should I select another .pdf preset to print my job faster?
    Please help!
    -Justin

The PDF presets really determine the quality of the PDF exported from InDesign. The High Print Quality preset (i.e. .joboption) is one of the few that would be appropriate for high quality printing on a digital printer. The only other preset that you could reasonably use for this is PDF/X-4, but that won't generate any simpler PDF.
You don't say what type of “creo” RIP is front-ending the Canon ImagePRESS, but if for example, you are sending it to a Prinergy, you may have a situation in which your file is undergoing a number of unnecessary transformations before finally going to a real RIP at the printer itself. More information would help us help you here.
Ultimately, graphic complexity of your content does directly effect the time for printing. Mnay images and use of transparency can be major contributors to such slow performance. However, the performance problem should only effect the time to print the first copy of your eight page book. Second and subsequent copies should print at full engine speed.

  • Load, edit or delete PDF presets in CS6 InDesign not possible.

Load, edit or delete PDF presets in CS6 InDesign not possible, it says: The folder may be write protected.
How do I solve this problem? I also work with Adobe Acrobat Professional X.

    OK.
Lets back up a bit and take things step by step so we all know exactly what's going on, and what you've tried and haven't tried.
First, what version of Windows are you using? The use simple file sharing is the very last option on my system (XP Pro) if you open Explorer and then use Tools > Folder Options > and select the View tab. This is also the tab where you will need to make hidden and system files visible, and I strongly recommend showing extensions for known file types as well. As far as I know this option (not to use simple file sharing) is available in XP home, too.
Second, once you've taken care of the first part, please do a search using the search in Windows Explorer, for *.joboptions under all files and be sure to select more options to search hidden and system files. You may find these files in more than one location, but the bulk of them will be in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings (note that this is the same directory as the one in the tree called "shared documents" -- I have no idea why the name is displayed differently in the folder tree than in the path in the address bar). Right click on one of those and select "Open Containing Folder" option.
The folder should open in a new window. Click the go up one level button in the toolbar (looks like a folder with an upward arrow on it), then right-click the settings folder icon and select either Properties or Sharing and Security (both open the properties dialog) and click on the security tab.
At this point, in all probability, the allow options are all grayed out because they should be inherited from the parent object. On my system the only user listed is "everyone" and they have full control. If yours is different, please let us know, and we'll go from there. If it's the same we'll try something different.

  • PdfExportPresets.add - name becomes default "Adobe PDF Presets 1" - bug?

    Hi,
I am not really a programmer and completely new to scripting. I just want to create a very simple script that I can use with a panel created with Adobe Configurator.
I'm trying to load new joboptionsfiles (.joboptions / PDF Export Preset) via a script. I found/slightly adapted the script that does this:
    app.pdfExportPresets.add(File.openDialog("Choose a File: "));
But: this will change the name of the job option in the list to the default "Adobe PDF Presets 1". When I load the same joboptionsfile the normal way (via File > Adobe PDF Presets > Define), it does show the correct name.
Is this a bug in the scripting, in my script? Is there a workaround?
    Thanks!
    Eddy

    >>I'm guessing it's pointless to question why Adobe Reader is trying to resolve a domain name by sub-domain only (i.e. www vs. www.adobe.com)... but I was able to resolve our issue by modifying the hosts file as such:
    >>x.x.x.x www
    >>I really don't like this fix though for obvious reasons.
I can't come up with an plausible explanation for the partial lookup other than it being a bug If your are using the pdf-files exclusively from one site ie. your local network setting up the entry in the local dns would probably solve the issue for all your users. However if you have users accessing the files from other parts of the internet it becomes a very tedious exercise. As an alternative to the hosts file solution, you could consider disabling netbios over tcpip all together which also bypasses the lookup. And as a last option, accessing the pdf by ip, however when using https this is not an option.
However, the REAL solution to this problem would ofcourse be a patch from Adobe, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, anybody listning

  • IDCS4: Naming PDF Presets - you've got to laugh

I wanted to create a new preset based on "[PDF/X-1a:2001]" and called "PDF/X-1a:2001 (bleed)" however when saving the new preset the following error is displayed:
    b Adobe PDF Preset names cannot include these characters: / \ ? | * : " < > [ ]
Err, hello? All of the built-in preset names contain at least two of those characters!
    Cheers,
    Graham.

Those characters all have special meanings in programming and scripting languages, so I'm guessing using one in a preset string would wreak havoc. In the case of the built in presets, I'll bet the actual name string is not used.
Open a settings file in a text editor and you'll see the potential problem:
    Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe PDF>Settings

  • Undefined PDF Presets in Illustrator CS5

I'm encountering a problem when attempting to retrieve a list of PDF preset names in both AppleScript and JavaScript. Here are the steps I'm performing:
    1) Launch Illustrator
    2) Run the following AppleScript:
         tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
              PDF presets
         end tell
    or JavaScript:
         app.PDFPresetsList;
When I run the AppleScript, I receive an error: "Adobe Illustrator got an error: an Illustrator error occurred: 1128353350 ('FNAC')" number 1200.  (Sometimes, 'ACVI' is listed instead of 'FNAC'.)
When I run the JavaScript, I receive: "Result: undefined"
If I retrieve Illustrator's properties via AppleScript, I can see that the PDF presets property appears as 'missing value'.
The only workaround I've found is to manually go to Illustrator and choose "Edit > Adobe PDF Presets", and then immediately click "OK" to close the window.  Whatever this does seems to fix the problem, and if I run the scripts again, they produce the correct results until Illustrator is relaunched, at which time the problem begins again.  I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and if anyone has come up with any other workarounds, preferably one that doesn't require manual work.
    Much appreciated.
    -Ben

When I run the script (either from the ESTK or within AI) it gives me a combined list from two different sources. The first is the list of the suite installed joboptions which are located in OS/HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings like this
The other joboptions shown are the user defined ones from <your account>/Library/Applicaton Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings like this
and here's the list from running the script from AI
I will have to agree with MuppetMark that it is something with your install that is off.
