PDF print driver hang when pasting filename from Windows Clipboard

This is consistently reproduceable on my Win 7 64-bit machine, running Acrobat Pro 9.3.1 (Creative Suite 4) and Firefox 3.6.2. There are no version properties available for the Adobe PDF Converter  print driver, when I inspect it via Control Panel.
- copy something (i.e., a filename) to the Clipboard
- in Firefox, choose File > Print > choose the Adobe PDF print driver
- I am prompted for the Adobe PDF filename
- when the Save As dialog displays, click in the "Save PDF File As" filename field, and press Ctrl+V.
Firefox and/or the Acrobat PDF print driver are now hung/crashed; you must kill them via Task Manager.
If you restart Firefox and repeat the above steps, but typing in the filename instead of pasting it, everything works fine.

Hi,
First please make sure your Office is up-to-date.
I suspect this may be related to some 3rd-party add-ins or the security software, first please run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if 3rd-party add-ins are related:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem copying and pasting in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
Please also disable the anti-virus program temporarily to check if this makes a difference.

  • Acrobat PDF Printer STILL freezes when pasting filename into Save dialog

Ref: Acrobat Printer Freezes on Save when CTL+V is used
No change in Acrobat X.  Printing system still freezes up entirely when pasting a filename into the Save dialog, when printing to Adobe PDF printer.  Most often from Firefix (all versions through 28.0) but from other programs as well (also happens from MS Outlook 2010 32 bit).
Any chance of an update from Adobe?
Acrobat Pro X on Win 7 64 bit.  Multiple systems exhibit same behavior.
Same issue occurs in Acrobat XI Standard.
Workaround is possible by manually typing in filename, or renaming, but clearly this should not be happening.  If you forget, it requires a lot of steps (or a reboot) to try again.

If you copy text directly from FireFox (or Word, or pretty much any program, other than Notepad), and try to paste into the Save Dialog to save your PDF, guaranteed crash.
HOWEVER, if you paste the text into Notepad first, and then copy it again, you can then paste into the Save dialog no problem.  This is why the "test" that the Adobe rep did to recreate the problem was pointless: He managed to re-create the one workaround method that DOES work, instead of actually trying to do things the way that were causing the issue to show up.
The problem appears to be related to any sort of "rich" text.  Windows ignores the "rich" information and only keeps the text if you paste into a filename in the system.  So Windows handles it just fine, it's Adobe's save dialog that can't handle it.  Copied text from Firefox is usually pretty clean (IE is worse), but there must be some formatting remnants in there that are giving Adobe fits (instead of properly ignoring them).  It may have something to do with 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Firefox and 64-bit Acrobat all coming together?  Copying and pasting between 64-bit and 32-bit programs usually has no issues, but in this case, it does (although the 64/32 bit relation is pure speculation on my end).
But by "washing" your text through Notepad first, it completely strips it down to truly pure plain text, which can then be pasted into Adobe's Save dialog without a crash.  This adds an extra step, and should be entirely unnecessary, but it does work.  At least until Adobe fixes their program.

  • Printer driver hangs when printing with Office 2013/Windows 8 64 bit

    Printer: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi
Printer Driver: V5.1 (up to date, downloaded from HP support website) or Generic V5.6
    OS: Windows 8 Professional 64bit
When I try to print a certain Excel document with Excel 2013 and printer driver V5.1, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager. This happens always with the same document, but not with all documents. The program hangs also when opening the print preview for the same document.
The same document prints fine with the generic printer driver V5.6 and with the driver that comes with Windows 8.
The same document prints fine with driver V5.1 under Windows 7 and Office 2010. The combination Windows 7/Office 2013 was not tested. The combination Windows 8/Office 2010 was also not tested.
When I try to print an empty document with Word 2013 and generic printer driver V5.6, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager.
My conclusion is that the HP printer drivers have a problem with either Windows 8 or Office 2013 or a combination of both.
The printer driver that comes with Windows 8 and is automatically installed is useful as a temporary workaround, but it lacks certain options, e.g. manual duplex.
On request, I am ready to send the Excel document by e-mail for verification of the problem.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Uli

From what you describe you are having issues printing from MS Office. Have you had trouble printing from other resources on your computer (e.g. from the internet or another program)? The first thing I am going to suggest is that we start by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the resources available online.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

  • Migration Assistant hangs when transferring data from Windows 7 to mac

My PC is a Windows 7 64 bit.  When I run Migration Assitant, I get as far as the screen that has my Windows Name and my Windows Account Name. Those are filled in automatically.  When I click "Continue", nothing happens.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

Unfortunately, a "merge" option, where it would add things to an existing user account, isn't realistic.  That would work fairly well for such things as documents, where everything is in separate files (although settings and preferences would get a bit tricky).
But not for things like iCal, AddressBook, or Mail, where there are complex structures.  Trying to merge those in any automated way would be very complex.   Even worse would be 3rd-party apps that Apple can't possibly know how to handle.
One thing that might help would be rewording the "You can transfer information later using Migration Assistant" line at the bottom of the Setup Assistant window:
A number of us have asked for that to be worded differently -- warning that it's much better to do it first, or not to install stuff you're going to need, or something.   All to no avail, of course.

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

  • How do I deal with "Acces Denied" error when trying to print to Adobe PDF printer driver

Windows 7 64 bit OS (updated)
    Adobe Acrobat XI (11.0.06.70)
I am unable to create a PDF file from within the Windows 7 print dialog.  Each time, I receive a terse "Access Denied" error followed by the display below (the progress bar never advances).  I thought upgrading to Adobe Acrobat XI might fix this but no such luck.  It seems that others have experienced similar issues.  I noticed in the display below that Adobe is trying to create the file in a folder which does not exist (at least I can't see it even after setting my preferences to display hidden files).  I have the hope that, if the folder were present and accessible, Adobe would create the file without trouble.  Is there a way to instruct Adobe Acrobat XI to create this temporary file in a different location?  One of my frustrations is that I used to be able to print Adobe Acrobat files without trouble on the same computer.  I wonder whether the use of a registry cleaner may have contributed to my problem.
What are the best practices for addressing the Access Denied and inability to print problems I've encountered?
Thanks for any help you can provide in sorting out this problem.
    Best,
    Matt

I have been having the exact same problem with Adobe Acrobat X.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and applied all the latest updates.  Every time I try to print ANTHING to the Adobe PDF print driver, the software hangs (MS Office, webpage, or other programs).  When I finally kill the process using Task Manager, I find the little "Access Denied" box.  This has been happening for nearly one year.  I have limped along since I have other computers to use.   I have attempted to find answers on this forum in the past, and no one seems to have a clear answer to the problem.
I, too, was tempted to upgrade to XI, but Matt's post settled the matter, since it did not help him.
I am using Win 7 Home (64 bit) and until this issue started, I have had no problem with AA X.
Where are the Adobe experts when you need them?  Please help us.

  • Print with Adobe PDF printer driver from Word: Stripes in images

    Hello,
I use Acrobat 8 Professional (Version 8.1.3) on Windows XP SP3 (german version). I'd like to create a PDF out of a Word document by printing with the "Adobe PDF" printer driver. I have a problem with an image containing large unicolored areas: In the PDF there are recognizeable stripes in the colors of the image. This is when viewing the PDF with Acrobat 8 Professiona, when importing a page containung such an image into Photoshop, and when printing such an image.
The image is an RGB TIF, but I tried it with a CMYK TIF as well as with an RGB BMP. The reault - when printed out of Word - is the same. If I print the same image to a PDF from InDesign, then everything is fine, no stripes.
Does anybody know how to optimize this?
    Best regards,
    Christian

Sorry, I should have mentioned this, of course. Well the document is a DOC (because it was prepared by co-workers with Word 2003). I use Word 2007, when I opened the DOC Word switched to "compatability mode" (not sure about the exact English term, I work with German versions). But even when saving the document under a new name, I kept it as a DOC, so my co-workers would be able to open it again at their computers with Word 2003.
My Acrobat is already version 8.1.6 and because I always install Windows Updates that the automatic update service offers, I guess my Word 2007 is also up to date.
But sure, if I can be of any other help, let me know...
    Best regards,
    Christian

  • Printing To PDF Printer Driver from within a program

Does the Adobe PDF Printer Driver allow parameters for file name and no display of resulting PDF.  I want to print to it and create a specifically named file without being asked for the filename and with a 'preview' display.  If I cannot do this, what do I need?  Is there an SDK, and if so, is there a run time that can be distributed without royalty along with apps developed using the SDK.  I generally use GDPicture control for this but wondered if I could do it with Acrobat.

Please ask in the Acrobat SDK forum.

  • Microsoft Word and Excel Hang When Pasting From Apple Applications

I have had a problem ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard. Word and Excel hang when pasting from Apple applications like Safari and Pages. Pasting to OpenOffice does not show the problem. Pasting from Firefox does not show the problem. I have resolved font duplicates, got rid of input managers, reinstalled Office removing plist files and normal templates but the problem persists. Microsoft is saying it is not their software after looking at the crash dump created from force quit. Besides, sticking to open source software , I am at a loss for what to try next besides reinstalling Mac OS X 10.6 (I am on 10.6.2 now). Any help appreciated. I have crash dumps and snapshots of the hung process if anyone can read them. Word is using close to 100% of the CPU when hung.

Microsoft is saying it is not their software after looking at the crash dump created from force quit.
If their software is freezing up, it's certainly nobody else's fault. If those Apple apps are for some reason creating bad clipboard data, Microsoft's apps should be able to gracefully recover and report the problem. Error handling is probably one of the most important, and most difficult, aspects of programming, but you can't blame poor error handling on anyone but the developer. I suspect that, rather than bad clipboard data, it's more likely to be a case of Microsoft's apps simply not understanding something about perfectly valid clipboard data, because they haven't properly followed Apple developer guidelines.
Of course, that's not a solution. I can't really provide you a solution, other than to ask what version of Office you're using. If you're using too old a version of Word, you should update. You should also let us know what kinds of stuff you're copying. More info always helps to get better answers.

I believe my ipads hard drive corrupted when i went from my macbook to a pc...I can get to the screen with cord and itunes but cant get past there to desktop of ipad...Any help would be appreciated....

Try using this article to help with your iPad not showing up in iTunes---
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538     -This deals with the device not being recognized in iTunes for Windows
The following steps work well with iPod but i would try them for help with your iPad issue:
Try connecting your iPad to another USB port directly on the computer. Verify that you're connecting it to a high-powered USB 2.0 port on your computer to be sure iPad is getting power. If you're connecting to a Windows laptop computer through USB, connect the laptop to a power outlet before connecting your iPad. Also, see iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB to be sure that your USB ports are supplying enough power.
Avoid connecting to an external USB hub. If a hub must be used, make sure the hub is USB 2.0, and that it has its own power supply. Also, make sure the hub is connected to a high-power USB 2.0 port on your computer.
If the issue persists, try disconnecting other USB devices from the computer such as printers, cameras, scanners, external hard drives, and USB hubs to determine if there is a conflict in the USB chain.

  • PDF printer driver file naming issue

Hello, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for this question but here goes. When I use the PDF printer driver to "print" a PDF file from InDesign or Illustrator, the file name is appended with extra information I don't want. For example, I want just "FileName.pdf, but what comes up in the dialog box is: FileName.ai @50% (CMYK-Preview).pdf. So I have to waste time deleting the extra information. Is there any way to turn this off? Is the PDF printer driver causing this or is it a feature of InDesign or Illustrator? All of us in our art department have looked for an answer to this but can't find even a mention of this on the forums. It's really frustrating!
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tom

I think the title may be coming from the caption of the window that is
open. If so, try printing from a window when you are NOT in CMYK
    preview, 50% etc.

  • Adobe PDF Printer not working as print driver; 9.5.5 (pro) with Windows 7, 64 bit

I have installed, repaired, uninstalled and re-installed Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 on a newly formatted SSD with Windows 7, 64 bit on my desktop machine. The program was installed from Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 and updated within the program. I have the program also installed on my laptop, and the Adobe PDF Printer driver is working properly on my laptop.
On my desktop with the newly formatted SSD, the Adobe PDF printer driver is not working. Note that I am using the printer driver, and not any pdf creation techniques within MS Office or other programs.
When I go to the Adobe PDF printing preferences on my desktop, I only get a generic, two tab window open. When I print a file to this printer on my desktop machine, I do not get a window opening that asks where to create the pdf or what to name it, and I never see any files created. In MS Word, the Create PDF option under the Acrobat tab works and opens a dialog to ask the name and location to save, and then opens a PDF Maker progress window and properly creates the file. I can also save a file as an .eps or .ps file and use Distiller to create the pdf. However I cannot get the Adobe PDF printer driver in my Devices and Printers to work properly, although it works just fine on my laptop with the same program (Pro 9.5.5) and same Windows version (7, 64 bit).
Repairing, uninstalling and re-installing does not solve the problem. Acrotray.exe *32 process is running. Any ideas on why this won't run properly on my desktop, but will run on a similarly configured laptop?
On my laptop, I get a full, (7) tabl menu with all the normal options:

I found this answer from Deepak Chauhan on another forum, and it solved this problem!
Try this to add Adobe PDF printer manually on Windows 7, and Windows Vista.
If windows 7 is Enterprise or better edition: (Admin rights required)
Start>search for printmanagement.msc and open the print management module
Expand the print server and expand the computer name to see availbale printers, drivers and printer ports.
    - from printers ensure there's no Adobe PDF printer, if there is delete it
    - go to ports and delete the PDF ports (the ones ending in *.pdf)
    - go to drivers and delete the PDF converter.
Take note if any errors occur, but continue with the following steps regardless.
If on windows 7 home edition, just goto start>Devices and Printers and ensure PDF pritner is not listed.
Then open the registry (if any erors deleting these keys happen, see below)
    1: go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers
delete any adobe PDF printer subkey present
    2: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
delee the PDF port monitor if present
    3: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
again delete and pdf printer subkey
If any erros occur, you need to set the owner of the key to the currently logged in admin user, then ensure that user has full control.
Do this by right-click the key and selecting permissions, clicking on advanced, then the owner tab.
Once you've all that has been done, open a command line as administrator.
Copy and pate the following commands in order
    1: net stop spooler
    2: rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection AdobePDFPortMonitor 128 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf
    3: net start spooler
    4:rundll32.exe printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Adobe PDF" /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf" /r "Documents\*.pdf" /m "Adobe PDF Converter"
That should set back the pdf printer.
This seemed to provide the link that provided the Adobe PDF Settings tab to the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences that was missing!

  • Acrobat 6.0 and Windows 7 - is there a PDF printer driver available?

    Hi,
I have been using Acrobat 6.0 with Windows XP fine. However, I just got a new computer that has Windows 7.
I installed Acrobat 6.0 but cannot now convert any documents to PDF on this new computer. I get this error--
"The PDF maker cannot find the Adobe PDF printer driver and to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 6.0"
However, reinstalling Acrobat 6.0 does not help, nor does the repair feature.
Is There a patch for this product? Can I download a driver for the PDF printer so that it is compatible with Windows 7?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have Acrobat 6 as well and just upgraded to windows 7. Can't afford Acrobat Version 9 either. From what I understand, only Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL, ULTIMATE or ENTERPRISE editions can you run most Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode(separate download). At least that's what I read here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-modeI wonder if that will help you. I unfortunately only have STARTER edition.
*The following text is copied and pasted from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode
Windows 7 Feature has a Windows XP Mode
It's the best of both worlds: The new Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.
Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. Windows XPMode also requires virtualization software such as WindowsVirtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.
To download Windows XP Mode or learn about its system requirements, visit the Windows Virtual PCwebsite.
Windows XP Mode, available for the Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows 7, helps prevent older business programs from becoming obsolete.

  • Automated printing to Adobe PDF printer driver

    Hi,
my application is hosting a 3rd party control that also offers some printing functionality to the default printer driver. However, it does not support PDF export yet. Thus, I would like to implement PDF export using the Adobe PDF printer driver. This export should happen silently and should not force the user to interact with the pdf printer driver. The PDF needs to be stored on a predefined folder using a predefined file name.
My question is: How can I use the Adobe PDF printer driver from my own application as a custom printer driver?
I would like to have a workflow like the following:
    1. User presses "export PDF".
    2. The application does:
        - store the current default printer
        - set the default printer to the Adobe PDF printer driver
        - trigger the 3rd party control print mehtod (prints to the default printer)
        - wait until the print job has ended
        - collect the printed PDF from the predefined folder / filename for further processing
        - reset the default printer to the previous default
Ideally I would like to have some progress information during printing.
Is this possible using the Adobe Acrobat SDK? If yes, how? A first glance at the documentation did not reveal how to steer the Adobe PDF printer driver from an own application (COM?).
    Thank you,
    Max

Thanks for your hint. I've found the example AdobePDFSilent in the SDK which nearly does what I am intending to do. However, one thing remains open:
How can I get progress information about the corresponding print job from the destiller. Ideally I'd like to have an event after each page + one event after the file has beens successfully saved.
Is this information exposed by the destiller API?
    Regards,
    Max
