.pdf print problem....need someone to try to duplicate my issue

I use Appleworks to print out in the Drawing section posters for class say..4 A4 pages by 5 A4 pages. I print out and glue them together to make large classroom visuals. They are brilliant and I can modify them easily. Problem I now have is that on my new imac using 10.5.8 a multipage document like this will not print to the printer nor to .pdf.
I have transferred the document to my powerbook 10.3.9 and everything works OK.
Could someone else try to duplicate my situation if you have Appleworks running on an imac with 10.5.8.
Many thanks
Dave

Using AW 6.2.9 and Mac OS X v10.5.7, the file prints successfully to pdf using the "Save as PDF..." option in the print dialogue. I didn't try to print the result to paper, but that appears to eliminate the file itself as the cause of the problem.
Two first aid steps that might resolve the issue:
Delete the AW preferences.
In the Finder, click the house icon (yourname) in the sidebar of a Finder window, then Library > Preferences..
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
   Open the folder AppleWorks
Delete both cache files and the two preferences files.
It's also safe to delete the Button Bars file, but unless you have issues related to the Button Bars, you're also safe to leave it there.
AppleWorks will create new (and clean) versions of these files as it needs them.

Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem
Hi I have an computer with windows 7 and the Adobe Software.
The Distiller 9 with adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Design Standard CS3 is also installed.
Now, I open in Frame Maker 9(Full Version) or 10(Trial Version)   an *.fm File. Then I go to “File- save as pdf” and then save I receive an message like this:
“to execute the ‘Save as PDF’  is necessary to have install Acrobat Distiller 5.05 or higher”.  But I have the Distiller 9.
Then I can click OK and now I receive another message like this:  “you must  define “PDF job options” if you want to execute it.”
If I look for the PDF job options I can’t select something. But if I look in the Distiller I have a lot of option I can select.
What is the problem. Is there a solution?

  • More PDF Printing Problems

There are lots of notes in this forum crying about PDF printing problems. For what it's worth, I'd like to add mine.
I'm using Jakarta FOP to generate a PDF on the fly from XML data. The PDFs it's producing are read and displayed nicely by Adobe Acrobat and print from Acrobat without a problem.
I've also written a simple desktop app that exercises the java.print package. (I won't bore anybody with a listing.) It uses the PrintServiceLookup to discover the two networked printers I have attached to my machine, using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE. I have it discover all the supported document flavors. Here's the result:
    application/octet-stream
    application/x-java-jvm-local-objectref
    image/gif
    image/jpeg
    image/png
I can sent text documents to the printer without a problem. But when I try to send a PDF generated by FOP that renders and prints fine from Acrobat, I get gibberish text out. I'm using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE as my DocFlavor when I create the doc.
I don't see application/pdf on my list of supported document flavors. Should I? If that's a requirement, what do I have to do to the printer to get it on the list? Why is Adobe Acrobat smart enough to print to a printer wo/ this flavor and javax.print not? TIA - MOD

Now I get it - I can't send PDFs from Java to a printer. A careful reading of forum threads and John Zukowski's note have driven a stake into the heart of the vampire.
I can bring them up just fine by creating the PDF using FOP and then sending the page back to the browser for rendering. If my client could just print the document from his machine, all would be well.
However, my app has a situation where some label printers will ONLY be attached to the server. They won't be visible from the client. I thought I had a solution with javax.print, but now that hope's gone.
The printers I have aren't Postscript, so suggestions to ask FOP to generate Postcript won't help me.
Adobe's site didn't offer any relief.
I haven't been able to find any for-fee or open source packages that might help. Plenty of stuff out there to convert to PDF, but nothing that helps to print it once you have it.
Is there any point in entering this as a bug in the database? It's less bug and more vaporware. After all, the docs never SAID they'd thrown an invalid flavor exception if you tried to print a PDF.
Sun, are you listening? - MOD

  • Adobe Acrobat xi pro for mac (trial) PDF Printer Problem

I have just installed Adobe Acrobat xi pro for mac (trial) but it did not install a PDF printer, hence when I use other software such as Word etc I cannot find the PDF printer. Has anyone got a fix for this issue

    Hi Sailesh,
If you're running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or 10.7 (Lion), Adobe PDF is replaced.

  • Okidata C5800LDN PDF print problem

Some PDF files do not print properly on my Okidata C5800LDN from my Macbook Pro. The font looks different, blocks of text are missing, and the margins are different. The problem is narrowed down to the Macbook Pro /Okidata interface because:
    1. The same file prints fine on a different printer using the Macbook Pro.
    2. The same file prints fine on the C5800LDN from an older mac running Tiger.
I've reinstalled the latest Okidata driver on the Macbook Pro and nothing changed.
I suspect something got hosed when the Macbook Pro was set up. The guy at the Apple Store copied the entire contents of an older Mac running Tiger to the Macbook Pro using a setup that used the older mac as a target drive. Seeking widsom from anyone out there with a C5800LDN running Leopard on a Macbook Pro.
    Thanks.

    Hello Tom,
I don't have an Oki printer but I would still like to suggest some things. For starters, I don't think the guy at the Apple Store did you any favors by copying the Tiger files. Given the symptoms you are experiencing, I would say that the Oki driver and possibly the core printing system needs a fix.
First step is to delete the printer queue. While in the Print & Fax section, point the mouse over the Printers list, hold down the Control key and click (or right-click if you have a two button mouse). Click Reset printing system when it appears and exit Print & Fax.
Next step is to remove the Oki driver files. You probably have a mix of old and new files. Navigate to ./Library/Printers/Oki (or Okidata if that is what the folder is called) and trash the contents.
Now, run the driver installer again for the latest version you have and then add the printer queue again.
Hopefully this gets things working correctly for you. If not, then please reply.
One more thing. If you are using Acrobat to print your PDF's, then try Preview (or vice versa). Also, if you are using Acrobat, there is a setting under the print dialog > Advanced called 'Print file as image'. With this checked, your PDF is sent as a rasterized file, rather than a sequence of commands. If this works, then you have a workaround until you can resolve the cause.

  • PDF Printing Help Needed

I have a Windows pc only for 1 thing - printing pdfs. My problem is that Windows printer drivers allow me to have auto select paper size/tray depending on if the pdf page is standard or legal. I have not yet found anyway to do this through the mac.
I have a Brother HD-5370 laser printer and need some assistance with the paper auto select. If any one has any suggestions or an actual fix, I am all eras.
    Thank You,
    Dan

    Dan231,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
We are willing to help however we need you to complete your Public Profile (look to your right) so we can tell what computer you have, the version of OS X, how much RAM etc. Also letting us know where you are located could help in future posts.
Most printing issues are handled in the Printing forums. Each version of OS X has it's own printing forum. For example if you use Snow Leopard (10.6) then that forum is located at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1344
However let me try and take a stab at your problem. I am guessing you are using Preview to print the PDFs so let's start there. When you print (Command-P) the printing box will appear, look under the Orientation and right below that it will probably default to Preview. Click that radio and choose paper handling to see if your printer offers more choices. You can also run Software Update to see if you have the most up-to-date drivers and retry.
Hope this starts to give you some direction.

  • Indesign & PDF printing problems

    Hello!
I have a paper to be printed out on a Laser Printer (600-1200)
It is a black and white document.
The problem is that the results are very different, when you print directly from Indesign CS3, (which is the Indesign Document), & PDF. The simple document to printed out contains editable text + object graphics.
When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
BUT, when I export the document to a PDF, and print out on the same printer, everything is rasterized (dots).
The settings in export to PDF is high quality, and I also tried selecting quality 2. (which is said to be the best for laser printers.
In the print directly from InDesign CS3, it is the program's own settings, but if I print out as PDF its the printer settings.
Someone who knows what the problem might be, why so different kind of printouts?
Grateful for tips and solution to the mystery!

You haven't said what printer this is. It makes a difference if it is Postscript, and what the settings are in your preferences for handling of Black when printing directly from ID.
To be sure you get solid black text when you export, make sure there is no color profile conversion, or that you have selected preserve numbers.
    >When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
You lost me here. What color plates? You said this was a B&W document.

  • Windows XP SP3 PDF Printing Problems

    Hi!
i saw that there are some topics about problems with network printer after installing sp3
I have installed SP3 an the latest version of acrobat reader (yesterday) and have the same problem. Everytime i try to print, it says that there is no printer.
But there are printer. I can print via word, excel etc. But i cannot print pdfs.
It is similar with adobe professioal 6.0 and SP3
    Do you have an idea?
    thanks a lot

Since the issue occurs only when printing PDF files, you could try installing the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from adobe.com.

  • Acrobat 8.1.6 and Word 2007 - PDF printing problem

I have a weird problem with printing a word 2007 document to the Adobe PDF printer (distiller). I hope someone can help with this.
My two-page Word document has a background color, text, text boxes and two imported images (both under 500kb). Now, the problem is two-fold:
If the 'print background color' option is disabled (unchecked), the PDF looks okay, but the background color vanishes as does text within text boxes (the text boxes themselves appear fine).
If the 'print background color' option is enabled, the PDF shows only the background color, but no text!
In either case, the PDF generation takes an unusually long time.
I tried to follow the advices given in other threads, and looked for the presence of Acrotray.exe (it was present during the process). I also tried printing the document to a file (.prn), renaming the extension to .ps, and double-clicking it to send the job to distiller - every time with the same result.
I must mention that if I use Word 2007's own 'Save to PDF' feature, it generates a clean PDF without any problem. It is only the Acrobat Distiller that is giving me endless grief. Can someone knowledgeable please help me with this issue?

I have an update. This is even weirder. It turns out that after I generate the PDF and only the background color shows up, I can use the Touch Up Object tool to select the entire page (by clicking anywhere in the colored area), and press 'delete'. If I do this, parts of the background color gets deleted, revealing the text underneath - including the background color!!!!! And doing this repeatedly, I can remove this strange 'overshadow' and find everything (image, text, text box) intact underneath. I can do the same to the text box, and eventually, the missing text appears there.
I, of course, have to do this for every single page!
In summary, it is almost as if my text and images are being covered by a sheet with the same color as the background, which I am then removing part by part - with each stroke of the delete key - much like opening a . Strangely, this happens for each page except the last page (which prints fine - with images and texts etc.)
Does anyone have a clue about this?
Update: I hadn't seen the replies from Bill and Lori when I posted this. Thank you both for replying! I do think that the problem is with transparency, given what I found out just now (written here). However, I have tried different PDF settings, standard and high quality (this is the one I normally use), and yet I have had the same issue!

  • Jetform PDF Printing Problems

I'm having trouble using Jetform 5.5 to output PDF documents. Do I need a separate PDF driver installed... or can I use the JFMERGE task to create the documents?
I'm using the designer to create the form and then setting my presentation target as PDF and compiling... Then using Central output control setting up a job to print to a file with the name of xxxx.pdf; the content of the file is PCL output (as if printed to a printer device) but cannot then be opened in Acrobat.
    Any ideas are welcome.

    Hi,
I am Bharat Agrawal working with GE Healthcare. We have couple of issues while printing through Jetform. Let me explain about the software which we are using with Jetform. We are using ERP MFG/PRO and when we run some particular program to print Jetform we basically face the following mentioned problem:
    1. We need the Page no in the format(N of M). Now the issue with the output that we get is 1 of variable name , 2 of Variable Name and so on.
    2. When we print range of Purchase order or sales order then the 2nd page onwards the alignment gets disturbed and all the fields value get displayed 1 line down which causes alignment issue with label and field value.
    3. The dots on the detail are of the form becomes larger in size.
    4. Everything seems to be fine when we print at our local printer. But it creates all the above mentioned issue when we compile the designed form in local system and upload into UK server and run the respective programs to print forms (PDF).
Could you please give us solution for the same? please send me the comments to my email id "[email protected]".
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bharat Agrawal.

  • Reader 9 PDF printing problems

I have a Kyocera FS-C5015N. When I print any multi-page PDFs to the FS-C5015N, only the first page comes out or nothing at all. I have tracked the problem down to Adobe Reader 9. I say this because I can successfully print multi-page PDFs using version 8.2. But I cannot with v9. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Kyocera's website. Same problem. I can successfully print with Word, Excel, etc. just not Adobe Reader v9. Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this issue? Thanks.

I do realize that not all printers are affected. However, the problem is clearly with Adobe Reader 9. The reason I say this is that the problem does NOT exist with Adobe Reader 8. The problem ONLY occurs with Adobe Reader 9. Furthermore, I am not sure what specific resolution to this printer you are referring to, but there hasn't been a solution presented thus far that is an actual fix for the problem. Originally, I identified that if I selected "Print to Image" the entire multi-page PDF would print as expected. Although, this solution causes the multi-page PDF to print very slowly (for the reasons noted by Mike). Another reader reported that if you install FoxIT PDF Reader, multi-page PDFs print just fine. I have verified that installing FoxIT Reader DOES INDEED allow me to print multi-page PDFs to our FS-C5015N. Again, if it was purely a driver issue, why would a multi-page PDF opened with FoxIT Reader print as expected while the same PDF opened with Adobe Reader 9, not print as expected? There also were a couple other posts about using the generic Kyocera KX driver. This is not an option for us. Finally, there was a post about changing the Post Script driver setings. We do not use the Post Script driver. And just as a side note, we have tried using the Post Script driver to see if this will resolve the multi-page PDF issue, and it does not. With that said, I implore Adobe to once again acknowledge this problem and provide users with a fix. This is a very frustrating problem.

  • Quark / PDF Printing Problems (Save as PDF in OS X)

I upgraded from Quark 4.1 to 6.5 about a year ago, and ever since then the files I create and print don't look as good. The primary issue seems to be color -- colors don't come out as deep, there seems to be less color saturation, sometimes colors are just pretty far off. I'm working in Mac OS 10.4.8.
For many years my method has been to design documents and output as PDFs to be professionally printed. These days my PDFs don't print as well. I suspect that the problem has to do with the process of creating the PDF. In Quark 6.5 I create PDFs by selecting "Save as PDF" from Quark's Print menu. Back when I was using 4.1, since Quark didn't have a built-in PDF-creator, I would go into the Chooser, select AdobePS as my printer, and then just choose Print in Quark and it would "print" to a PDF.
One other problem I've had since the upgrade is that the PDFs Quark creates are HUGE files -- tens or hundreds of megs -- often too large to email. When I used to create PDFs from the identical Quark files using 4.1, the resulting PDFs printed much better and were much smaller files (often far less than 1 meg). Solving the color problem is a higher priority for me than solving the file size issue, though.
I've spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this with our local printer here in Albany, NY (the same guy who printed my stuff in the old days, when it came out looking a lot better). Things we've tried that haven't seemed to solve the problem:
    - Increasing the LPI to 300
    - Checking the box for Full Resolution Tiff Output
    - Experimenting with OPI active and not
    - Experimenting with different PDF options like "Save as PDF," "Compress PDF," "PDF-X," etc. (Compress PDF does result in smaller PDFs, but the quality of the resulting prints is even worse)
Also, if anyone has suggestions about Quark-specific forums I could post this to, let me know. I tried creating an account on the discussion forms on Quark's website, but I don't receive their confirmation email to confirm my account.
Any advice greatly appreciated -- thanks so much!

    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Quark 6.5

    Marshall,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
colin clarke1’s info is spot on. I will add a bit more. Acrobat Professional includes Distiller in addition to a print driver called Adobe PDF 7.0 (version number matches version of Acrobat). I think the print driver installs automatically, but if not, you should choose to install it and then it will show in your list of printers. This will allow you to make PDFs from Quark XPress much as you did with Quark 4.1.
Distiller comes with some pre-defined Settings (formerly know as Job Options) for different types of printing, i.e., Smallest file (low-resolution like online viewing), Standard, High Quality, Press Quality and others. These Settings are general standards in the industry in terms amount and type of image compression, font embedding, color management, compatibility with previous Acrobat versions and etc.
colin clarke1’s method of saving a Quark doc as a PostScript and then distilling it is one method. (You can set this in your Quark Preferences.) Alternatively, you could do the following within Quark XPress…
    (a) Select Print, which brings up the Print window. At the bottom of the window are some buttons. Click on Page Setup and in its window, for Format for: select the Adobe PDF 7/8, the appropriate Paper size and then OK.
    (b) Returning to the Quark print window, make all the necessary choices for Layout, Setup, Output, Options, Layers, Bleed, OPI and Profiles.
    (c) Next, click on the button Printer (at the bottom) which brings up a Mac OS print window. Click to the right of Printer and select Adobe PDF 7/8. Next, click and hold on Copies & Pages for a drop-down list of options and select PDF Options. Click on the bar to the right of Adobe PDF Settings and a list of Distiller Settings will pop up and select the one that best fit the type of printing you are doing, e.g., Press Quality. If you want to see the PDF version afterwards, then select Acrobat for After PDF Creation. Click Ok.
    (d) Returning to the Quark print window, click Print button (lower right). A Save window appears for you to name your document and select where you wish to save in on your computer. (If you choose to see the PDF afterwards, then Acobat will launch and the PDF will then appear in Acrobat.)
You could learn more about the latest version of Acrobat 8.0 (released November 2006) by Adobe’s “tour” at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/productinfo/features/
    Hope this helps.

At the moment the workstations are being upgraded from Windows 2000 untill Windows Vista 32 bit (it's a big company....)
At the Vista machines there are problems with WWI and PDF printing. At the windows 2000 workstations there is no problem.

    Hello
please take a look in SAP marketplace. There are a number of important OSS available regarding"general" topics of WWI (recent version of WWI) and common questions. MOst of the OSS are of type "recommendation / additional info" etc.
It is known that not all combinations of Windows version together with WWI version together with SAP version together with Adobe version are suported or that problems can come up.
    Main issues are:
    - used Word version
    - Used Windows version

  • Pdf printing problem encountered in specific applications in the workspace.

    Hi,
I am experiencing this problem which i am not able to figure out.
After installing and configuring the BI publisher, for the newer applications i develop printing option works fine.
But for the applications which were already present in the workspace before installing BI Publisher, when I press the download button(which should branch to the url specified in the report query), it is directed to the specified url but the page is blank. I do not get any pdf attachment for downloading.
Could that be a problem in configuring the BI Publisher?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paulo ,
Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
An Acrobat PDF document generated from Web Intelligence XI Release 2 does not print correctly from some older Xerox printers. Some of the cells do not display the data that is there.
Business Objects 5.1.x uses the PDF v1.2 conversion engine. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 uses PDF v1.5. Therefore, the fonts are rendered as TrueType in the resulting PDF file. To confirm this, open the PDF in Acrobat Reader and click File > Document Properties > Font tab.
A PDF generated from BusinessObjects 5.1.x will have the font type as Type 1. A PDF generated from BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will have the font type as TrueType.
As per the product group, it states that this is by design, as there can be other regression issues for using the older PDF conversion engine and Type 1 fonts.
The printing problem has not been reported with newer printers.

  • OS 10.6.3 and Remote Desktop for windows server, PDF Printer problem

We are using Remote desktop for mac by windows in the office to work on a remote windows server, On the server we are using a business software (Mamut) for sale. In OS 10.5 we are using the PDF Printer to transfer PDF (invoice) from the business software (Mamut) 'Mamut is seeing the PDF printer as any other printer' to the desk top of your mac, so we can attach the PDF to a mail before we send it out to a customer, but in OS 10.6 the PDF printer is removed! So we need a different way of transfer the PDF from the windows server to the mac desk top.
So now I am wondering if any one has a suggestion on how to fix this! if not we can't upgrade to OS 10.6, and that would be a shame!

The thing is that in Mamut, we hit print, and because we us the PDF printer as Printer for Remote desk top, it pup up on the desk top of the mac, as a PDF. But in OS 10.6 there isn't any PDF printer to install, so then we have to make a PDF on the windows server and move it from the server to the mac, by mounting the HD from the Mac to the remote desk top, so it become edible in from the server. I think this is cumbersome.
