PDF printable but not save-able?

Couple questions:
With a standard PDF form created in Acrobat Pro, can user "save" completed PDF, or just the "template" (without filled-in fields)?
On a regular PDF (non-form), is it possible to make it only "printable" and not "savable?"
Thanks...

Any user with Acrobat Standard or Pro can save a pdf form file with its field content saved. Users of Reader can only saved pdf form fields with the field data if the file has been especially enabled with extended Reader rights in Acrobat Pro. You can use password protection to make a file only printable, but you cannot stop a nonform pdf file to be saved. It cannot be printed unless it is on the computer.

    It may be that the "PDF form" is an XFA form created by LiveCycle Designer. These forms are wrapped in PDF and to view/use one must use Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    BUT -- today one can use browsers that provide their own built-in PDF reader that cannot 'service' XFA forms.
    Google Chrome is one of those browsers. So, don't bother with trying to view/use/do any thing to - with PDFs when using Chrome.
    Save the PDF to your computer's HDD.
    Now, open the PDF with Adobe Reader XI (fully updated of course). Process the form.
    Be well...

    Hi angel07h,
    Did you try to save the file, but the save was unsuccessful? Or did you just not have a chance to save the file? Where did you get the form? Did you download it from a website, or fill it out directly on a website?
    I look forward to hearing back from you.

    That means you are looking at the form online with a browser that uses its own (incompatible) PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.
    Either
    download the form to your local disk and fill it from there
    use a browser that employs the Adobe Reader plugin

    My guess is they don't care. Most likely they're illiterate and don't know what a colon is for. They probably think it's a little-used character. Remember: these are the people who don't know the difference between "deprecate" and "depreciate".
    I have the same colon problem as you do. But it's not the biggest problem I have encountered in Lion. If it was only that I'd be Mr. Delighted with Lion. There's worse than having a colon - uh -  that won't cooperate. A lot worse, in Lion.

    Hello @JoScan , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
    I see you are experiencing scan issues.  I would like to help.
    I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
    Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
    I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
    After the updates, I would recommend readding the OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac.
    Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Arlington Historical Society wants to give its visitors the ability to look at our IPhoto files on the Apple computer in our office, but NOT be able to modify them in any way.  How can we do this?

    Arlington Historical Society wants to give its visitors the ability to look at our IPhoto files on the Apple computer in our office, but NOT be able to modify them in any way.  How can we do this?

    Thanks. We want visitors to browse through our historical photos in any of the ways iPhoto will allow them, including slide shows, but also searching for photos by key word and viewing them along with the comments we have entered on that photo.
    I was beginning to think iPhoto had no capability to limit users to certain functions.
    I wonder if the use of Apple's sharing files function would help. I have read that it is possible to share files with others, and to limit their use to viewing only, but I don't know how to do this.

  • Data saved from PDF form printable but not readable?

    I created a Reader extended PDF to send out to clients to collect data.
    I must have done something wrong as when the forms are coming back, they forms are populated in OSX Preview, but not when opening the PDF in Acrobat.
    When the form is printed, all data displays correctly.
    Is this something to do with the way the form fields are formatted?
    any help appreciated!!! Thank You
    FILE IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH

  • How to create a pdf file can not save as

    i created pdf file, an make security option with no access print and save, when we open that file in reader, print is blocked, but save as button still appear and user could be save in other place or namefile, how to make save as not permitted

    PDF like the code for web pages needs to be downloaded to your local system as a temp file so it can be processed for display.
    Not being able to copy a file negates the backup capabilities of a network.

  • Printable, but NOT visible on screen - How?

    Hi,
         We have some MS Word documents to make into PDFs.  We  would like to designate some of the text and graphics to be invisible on  screen, but visible when printed.
         We need this to ensure that our users  actually do print the PDFs as required.  They will have to call us and tell us the  "special word" on some of the pages.  They will only be able to get the "special word" by printing the document.
         Yes, yes...I know that this isn't super high-tech, but it should accomplish our goals.  :-)
         Can this be easily done in Acrobat 9 Pro?  What commands/menus should I explore to accomplish this task?
    Thanks,
            Tim

    Thanks for leading me in the right direction.  I didn't do exactly what you suggested, but it got me to the right place to find the answer that really worked for me.
    I created some text boxes (with no borders).  Typed in my "secret word/characters."  Then, there is an option in the dialog box "General" tab.  I selected "Hidden but printable."
    This did the trick for me.  It cannot be seen on screen.  It very clear when printed.
    Now that I know this functionality, I'm using it to do the reverse, too (visible, but not printed).  It allows me to display warnings or guidelines about how to complete the document (on-screen), but doesn't clutter the printed version.
    Perhaps the best part is that it works on Acrobat 7 Pro.  (7.0.9)   I didn't even have to purchase the upgrade to accomplish this.
    try67 is #1 in my book (er, PDF)!

  • I want to Hide Back option but Not Save option when using transaction iview

    Hi,
    Sap Guru's
    I am new in Sap EP.... I am using Transaction iviews in the portal....  I want to Hide Back option but not the Save Option of transactions....I want to hide it from  potal ...... Is it Possible.....
    I have done settings in  SICF Tcode in ECC system as Following:
    ~Webgui = 1
    ~Webgui_simple_toolbar = 160, 2, 4, 16, 32, 64 and some more values... It is hiding the Back option but also the Save Option....
    I also want to disable commands as Ctlr  + S , shift + F3
    Suggest me some solution so that this can be done from portal instead of ECC systems.....
    Thank's in Advance
    Regards-
    Sumeet Sharma

    Hai,
      Kalyan,
    I have done this problem using SICF but instead of Hiding Back option .. I have allowed a user to run only one transaction using an iview....
    Put following parameter in SICF:
    ~webgui = 1
    ~theme = Sl
    ~SINGLETRANSACTION = 1
    By this configuration user will be able to execute only one transaction i.e  assigned him in his transaction iview.... It's an alternate solution of hiding back......
    when user click front screen back option of an transaction iview he will get message ... Logged off....
    Regards-

  • PDF Software causing problems in sending some PDF files but not all?

    I have been having problems sending some emails with PDF attatchments, they are being returned more and more frequently.  I've spoken to our server host and his answer is as follows saying that the problem is we are using "cheap PDF software" which is why I can send PDF's via Gmail or Yahoo but not through our server.  He suggest we buy a more expensive software or using Gmail for our important bids and invoices that are sent daily.
    My question is:  Is this even close to what could be causing the problem.  We are using Adobe to create our PDF's using our HP CM1410 or the Neat Scanner.  The Neat is a new device but the problem was ongoing before the Neat Scanner was added.
    Our IT person who set our network, hardware and software says it's the server and he's never heard of this being an Adobe problem.  So we're stuck not knowing who to believe

    There are several potential problems. It could be that your e-mail client is not encoding the PDF properly, but looking at it as an ASCII file (7-bit characters). The encoding is not as much of a problem anymore, but still a potential issue. The structure of the PDF that you are getting from the scanner may be corrupt. You can use some of the preflight scripts to check the integrity of the PDF. You might even try saving as a new PDF to see if the 2 versions work differently.
    It might be better to print the proposals you mentioned to the Adobe PDF printer and get better quality proposals than you would get with a scan. That would also probably avoid the problem you are having.

  • Repeating headers in PDF report but not in Excel format?

    Is it possible to have repeating headers on PDF output format, but not if the report output is Excel ?

    If the report is simple, i.e. it only contains a single table, then you can add some header rows at the top of the table.
    +-----------------------+
    | Page Header 1         |  }
    +-----------------------+  }
    | Page Header 2         |  }
    +-----------------------+  }
    | Page Header 3         |  }
    +-----------------------+  }--Repeat as header row at
    |      <Blanks>         |  }  the top of each page
    +-----------------------+  }
    |      <Blanks>         |  }
    +-----------+-----------+  }
    | Heading 1 | Heading 2 |  }
    +-----------+-----------+
    | Data 1    |  Data 2   |
    +-----------+-----------+
