PDF printing failing to embed fonts

I am an IT administrator over multiple machines each having various versions of acrobat (pro, std, 7, 8, 9, etc.).  We have a standard job options settings for all machines which forces embedding all fonts used in a document. We do this for compatibility with government entities (they refuse documents having font references without the embedding).  We recently transferred an employee to another machine and setup ver 7 pro on her machine, as she had on her prior machine.  We transferred all her different fonts to the new machine as well.
When she now prints to the adobe print driver using the embedding job options we use on other machines, the resulting PDF contains references to Times Roman and Helvetica (without embedding) showing substituted fonts (which have been embedded).  I understand that without having the fonts on her machine they will never embed, however on her previous machine and other machines in the office the PDF printer merely removes the references and embeds the substitute fonts, giving us a compatible PDF with all embedded fonts.
All the machines are using the same job options, so what setting am I missing that is causing this one machine to refuse to completely substitute the fonts and change the references to reflect only on the fonts which are embedded?  Where else are the fonts given instruction on embedding/substituting?
I should mention, just in case, that these are all windows xp pro machines. Also worth noting: this behavior has occured on this machine with ver 7 std as well as pro, and I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled acrobat to no effect.

Ok, good suggestions I did try the distiller default options before.
More details:
She is printing a form fillable PDF from her browser. (I have recreated the steps exactly and shown different results on 3 computers with 2 properly embeded).
I have also taken the improperly embedded file and run it through another machine resulting in a properly embedded setup (replacing the non-local fonts with their substitutes without reference to original fonts and embedding the substituted fonts).
Thanks

  • PDF Printer fails to create document

I have Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 Standard and today suddenly I cannot create a PDF file from Word 2007. It will create PDF files of up to 5-6 pages but when I try the file that contains 657 pages it will only go to page 90 before I get this error message: Adobe PDF printer failed to create the PDF file.
I have tried this a couple of times (shut down computer in between each try) and every time I get the same error at the same page. The last attempt was 2 1/2 hours ago and I still have the little Acrobat icon turning circles in my toolbar. Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem?
I am working on a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP SP2. I bought Acrobat back in May and this is the first time I've had a problem with it.

Hi DJ, what is on page 90 (or 91) that is keeping the PDF printer from completing? Any half tones in any graphics? Any intense tables? Graphs?
Have you tried just making a PDF from that one page? Drill down to the page that is causing the problem, try removing one element at a time, printing to PDF, until you discover what one element is creating this issue.
We had some snow flakes with gradient half tones in one of our documents that was causing an issue much like you are experiencing.

  • Adobe PDF printer failed to create the PDF file

Just installed Acrobat 9 Standard on new HP Touchsmart running Vista 64 bit - tried to create a pdf from a *.pub, and got the error message above, and "please correct the error and try again".  If I knew what the error was, I'd try to correct it.

If you check the PDF file with ctrl-D and select the font tab, you will likely find that the font you mention is not embedded. The font not being embedded will make major differences in terms of what fonts Acrobat or Reader finds to do a substitution. Also, the fonts may not display correctly if you have the Use Local Fonts check box selected incorrectly (just try changing that choice).
Fonts can be a major issue in terms of licensing for embedding and such. Also, different job.settings file selections may cause fonts to not be properly embedded.
Since the printer works, the issue of the other packages is the need for PDF Maker to be active in those applications that you are trying to import files from. To check PDF Maker, you need to test it in those applications, not in Acrobat. Trying things in Acrobat is the last step, not the first step. In WORD, there is a need for certain settings to be properly set to allow PDF Maker to work. These may be the issues you are having. So, go back to the applications of interst and be sure that PDF Maker works from the application -- this is the create PDF button.

  • PDF Print - Numeric&bold Calibri font is printed not properly on Windows 7 (on XP - OK)

In MS CRM 4.0 system I generate reports using Reporting Services (10.0.4067.0  - 2008 SP2 + MS12-070). Then I export them to PDF.
Font which is used - Calibri. In PDF file everything is displayed properly. When I print that PDF in Adobe Reader (Windows 7), then bold&numbers are wrong (bigger, smaller captions - looks like diffrent font). When I print the same file on the same printer
using Windows XP, then everything is ok!
I've tried to switch Calibri font in Win7 (taken from XP) - still the same problem. I've installed Foxit Reader on that machine and print is good! Unortunately, it has to be Adobe.
Only one case that is wrong - Win 7, Adobe Reader (X and XI). What can be the reason?

    Hi simon17,
As per my understanding, I think this issue is caused by the Adobe Reader. I think you can try the following methods to check the issue again:
    Check for Adobe Updates.
    Try the Repair Adobe Installation
    Run Adobe as Administrator.
Since this issue is related to Adobe Reader, not related to Reporting Services. If this issue still exists, I suggest you post the question in Adobe Reader forum at:

  • FOP PDF Printing Fails with 500 Internal Server Error in APEX 4.1

    Hi,
We have Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 (Apache + J2ee) installation in our environment. I configured Apache FOP for Apex 4.1 running on Oracle 11.2.0.1 database using" Section 5 - Installing and Configuring Apache FOP - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/configure-printing-093060.html document". I am getting "500 Internal Server Error
Servlet error: An exception occurred. The current application deployment descriptors do not allow for including it in this response. Please consult the application log for details."
Do I need to configure Apache FOP only using Standalone OC4J containers as mentioned in the document instead of using j2ee containers installed as part of OAS 10.1.3.5 install? If so, any idea why this restriction?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Lavanya

    Thanks Hussein for your response.
Do you have proper entry in the hosts file?I do have the correct entries in both host and guest OS. As I mentioned, I'm able to ping in command prompt both linux guest (DNS) name and ip address. It is just the login page load. It could be not just R12...may be any other web page as well...
I don;t know how these DNS Server name is resolved and so on..this networking stuff in windows 7...it may be irrelevant to this forum...but chancing my luck if someone had this issue in the past.
I believe the main issue with the ping, so once this is fixed you should be able to access the application (assuming it is up and you can access from other machine -- If I understand you correctly, I believe you did from XP).Yes..the same config works fine in XP.

  • V10.1.5 upgrade - Adobe PDF printer issues - font embedding

    Hi,
Accepted the 10.1.5 (Acrobat Standard) upgrade.  Have started having "Adobe PDF" printer failures with MS Outlook 2010: Font embedding issues.
Is there a setting somewhere I need to tweak to tell it to substitute with another font when it runs into licensing issues?
I've re-installed CutePDF as a workaround, but would prefer to use the Adobe printer.

In the settings file you should be able to set to continue even if the embed fails. In that case, I think you will simply have the PDF without the one font being embedded. You can also set to never embed it in the settings file (if you can find it on your system).

  • How to Embed Fonts and make Grayscale in Acrobat Pro 9 PDF

I supplied my printer with a PDF but he says that I need to "Embed The Fonts" in the PDF.
I made the original document in MS WORD and then I created the PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 but nowhere
along the way did I see anything that asked me to Embed The Fonts.
He also says that the type is in RGB but it needs to be in Grayscale.
When I created the PDF I didn't see any option along the way that gave me a choice between
    RGB and Grayscale.
Any ideas how to achieve these two effects while going from an MS WORD document to a PDF using
    Acrobat Pro 9 please?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry to bother you with my problem but I wondered if you could explain a little bit more about things I didn't understand.
1 - you said > On a Mac there is no advantage to using the Word plug-in.
Do you mean that I can type directly into Acrobat?
I thought that a document needed to be created in a word processor first before I could turn it into a PDF.
    Is that incorrect then?
2 - > Create the pdf file a print file menu gives you greater control.
I do apologize but I did not understand this statement either, could you please expand on it a little (to a non-techie.)
3 - > If you use the Press job option setting, the fonts will be embedded.
I can't find Press job option setting anywhere - I am using Acrobat pro 9 but there doesn't seem to be a menu with Press
anywhere, could you please expand on this a little bit too please.
4 - > If the pdf file has already been created it can be converted to greyscale using the Preflight or Convert Colors
    under Advanced -> Print Production.
I understood this part and I executed it according to your instructions so thank you for that.
Unfortunately I couldn't find out how to embed my fonts and my printer charged me $75 to do that
so I was pretty upset about not being able to understand that part of your explanation.
Since the printer was able to embed the fonts in a document that was already a PDF then it must be possible
to embed fonts after a PDF has been created, is that correct?
If that is correct then i don't know how I could not find how to do it because I looked everywhere for that
ability but I could not find how to do it.
I'd be very grateful for any further help you could give, thank you.

  • How to embed fonts in a PDF

I have a book which uses Garamond Light Italic and Helvetica light Oblique. Only 2 styles of 2 fonts.
The printer wants me to embed the entire font families with the PDF files.
My problem is that I don't know how.
All I know is that it will only embed the files being used in the document.
Should I include one letter of each style of each of the 2 fonts, so that the computer will know which fonts to embed?
Or, is it as simple as entering 100% in the Subset font below window?
I'm certain there must be a better and easier way.
Also, it there a way of verifying that the proper fonts have been embeded?
    Please, I need your advise.

LilyLC, All seems to have come to a conclusion this afternoon.
It seems that when I create individual pages, make PDFs of them and then merge them with PDF merge, what's happening is that the fonts are being embeded with each page. Apparently the RIP gets confused with all the fonts embeded and substitutes courier.
The printer recommends that I save the entire book as one document, and convert that document into one PDF file, thereby, embending the fonts once.
They guarantee that the book will print properly if I follow the above.
I had been reading through the printers vast instructions and noticed the paragraph relating to this problem, and they confirmed it.
They sent me a print out of the fonts embeded in my book and the 2 fonts were repeated for each page, 32 times.
I called Quark about a distiller (whatever that is) and the Custom and Roman encoding. Their answer was that none of it was Quark related. I would have to speak to Adobe.
I was made to understand that the only reason I would need a distiller is if I had postscript files to convert into PDFs. Since I was generating PDFs directly there was no need for the distiller.
I don't know how they print these books, other than the covers print RGB and the inside in CMYK. I always convert the CMYK photos.
I've been satisfied with the quality of their printing and the people, that's why I went through all the trouble to solve the problem.
I enjoy writing books for my 2 grandchildren. I've done 8 books in the past year.
You've been a big help, in that you persevered and explained in easy to understand language.
Again, thanks for all your help and to Limnos who made the original suggestion. I guess you can go back to enjoying the rest of the summer.
I will now make some reference notes for the future use.
If, by any chance this doesn't work out I'll will be posting back for additional help.

  • Can I embed fonts in a pdf document?

I wish to publish a Pages document and to do this I need to convert it to pdf and ensure that my fonts can be embedded into the pdf document. I am not sure how to proceed. How do you embed fonts in PDF from Pages 4.1?

Preview does a nice job of embedding fonts. You can open a pdf with non-embedded fonts in Preview and then print->save as pdf creates one with fonts embedded. I had seen this in MacOSX Hints originally and it works for me.
For seeing what fonts are embedded (or not), pdffonts is a very nice utility, which i think now comes with poppler, or you can build from their git.

  • Embed fonts in PDF

I want to publish a book on lulu.com which I created with MS Word for Mac. It must be in PDF format with embeded fonts.
Firstly, how does one save a file as a PDF?
Secondly, how does one embed fonts?
    Thanks!

There are several ways to make a PDF. The best way is the one that will give you the result with the end in mind.
If you're wanting to make sure the fonts are embedded & be used for Printing, I'd suggest making the PDF according to the PDF X-1a standard. This standard is set to do all the things you should need for a printer, except for making sure your images have enough resolution for printing.
The full version of Acrobat Distiller has this setting as a default. It's much harder to make a bad file with the X-1a standard. Saving to a PDF out of Microsoft is risky sometimes because Micorsoft applications don't always translate in the most reliable way.
Here's a website that can allow you to do it:
    http://www.pdfonline.com/convert_pdf.asp

  • How to embed fonts in an existing pdf document

PDF Documents I am creating and emailing to my clients are showing up missing bargraps and text. I suspect embedding is not working. Is it possible or even needed to embed fonts in an existing pdf document? Or, is that done during pdf creation? -MikeT

You'd want embedded fonts with your PDFs so as to assure fidelity of your content.
If my local machine does not have the font used in the PDF what I view may be / can be something "off" from what you mastered.
Perhaps squares instead of language characters.
Distiller job options such as High Quality Print or Press Quality embed fonts (Standard does not).
For a PDF that does not have embedded fonts a Preflight Fixup can be used to embed fonts (even one for hidden text from Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact) OCR output).
Need Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended.
The fonts must be on the local machine and "known" to the OS.
The fonts must have no license restriction(s) that preclude embedding.
    Be well...

  • Embed fonts in pdf with Photoshop CC?

    Hi,
I have done my CV using Photoshop so it's full of text with specific fonts. My problem is that when I save the CV in .pdf file, people can't see the pdf correctly if they don't have those specific fonts. I don't want to sent my CV as an image, so How could I embed the fonts in a PDF file to ensure that everybody can open the file correctly?
    Thanks in advance.

It amazes me that nobody has responded to your request.
    What request?
As far as I can tell on my end fonts are embedded in pdfs created with Photoshop.
If you want to trouble-shoot the issue you are having you may have to do more than express amazement …
How exactly do you create the pdfs, what are the fonts that fail to embed, what are the exact Photoshop and OS versions you use, …?
    And the OP’s statement
if they download the pdf and they open it with adobe reader, then everything is ok.
seems to indicate that the problem is not on Adobe’s side.

  • I Need to Embed Fonts in my PDF

    Hi,
I am trying to upload a pdf into a website but they say there is an error that's stopping the process from going ahead. Apparently I have to embed the fonts in my pdf first.
I've done quite a bit of online research and found several ways of doing this - none of which seem to be possible to me!
Is there a way that I can embed fonts without having to buy something? I have Adobe Reader, Digital Editions... but I have no idea if I have anything else (Acrobat?). I haven't deliberately bought it, but this is a brand new top-of-the-range, expensive laptop so I don't know if would have already been installed? Windows 8.2 means that it's harder than ever to navigate your way around the computer.
    Thank you in advance,
    zengirluk

    I have Adobe Reader!
I just made a document in word and saved it as a pdf.
I have downloaded the trial version and gone through the steps as described here:
    https://lvb.wiwi.hu-berlin.de/doc/embedfonts.pdf
Now about to upload to the website... I'll let you know if it's worked. I have a feeling it won't have because I don't have a printer and didn't print it out. The method described above wanted me to print the document out. However I don't want or need to. I just want to embed the fonts so the website accepts my document!
