PDF printing of web-pages WITH background?

How do I make it possible to have the background image/pattern/colour etc. of a web-page included when I "print" to PDF?
Whenever I print a web page with something in the background other than white it's missing in the PDF file. This happens in my daily-use browser (Seamonkey), but also in Safari. However, in iCab (http://www.icab.de/) the background is included in the PDF file, so at least it's possible in MacOS. I just can't find any settings for it.

Another neat trick I found is that you can save the different settings. Just go to the "presets" part of the print menu, then save the current setting. For example by naming it "PDF printing with background".
Then turn off the background colour/image/pattern and save it as a new preset (e.g. "Print (to paper)").
That way you don't need to waste lots of ink, but at the same time you'll get the complete web-page with background and all when you save it as a PDF file. Just remember to select the right preset before you "print".

How to fix extremely slow printing from web pages with latest updates (iMac) & HP Office jet printer. (It was not a problem with earlier versions of Firefox & same computer & printer.)

The latest two updates of Mozilla Firefox are not useful for me because of extremely slow printing of web pages. It was never a problem before. Same iMac and HP officejet printer. How can I either fix it, or revert to an earlier version of the browser (without losing all my bookmarks) which didn't cause this problem?

Try scanning from your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

Export to PDF & Print of Webi document with Xcelsius SWF file embedded init

Hi ,
I have embedded an Xcelsius model as HTML in a webi document. It works fine in the Infoview. However, when I export to PDF or print the webi document , the Xcelsius flash component does not show up. I just get a box with the HTML code in it.
Please let me know how to fix this.

I agree with kirbot -- Apple includes nice templates that are obviously meant for professional printing in reasonably large quantities. Regardless, there's no good reason I can think of why Pages' PDFs are not truly WYSIWYG in their output. That shadows and other things are not exported as part of the PDF is a really dumb idea on Apple's part.
Just ran into this issue myself and had to ditch all the drop shadows in my brochure in order for the files to work with my online printer.

Converting PDF to a Web Page with Mouseover Functionality

I've been asked to create an online catalog with page turning functionality, but the pages must have the capability that when hovering over a product, it is then enlarged into a pop-up box that has a link to a shopping cart. Page turning software appears to only work with PDF files, so I need to create a PDF from scratch, not from a scan...then have mouseover functionality over each product as I described. Then I would have the PDF converted to page flipping functionality. I would appreciate any suggestions as I feel this is over my head. A good example of this is the Staples weekly ad:

At this time all page-flipping system run in Flash (until we get some of the new features of HTML5 and CSS shown at MAX, it's the only way to do it). As such they are primarily-designed to work on a website, but in some cases they can be embedded into a PDF as well.
Adobe InDesign can export documents into SWFs with a page-flip effect, and could implement some of the interactivity you're looking for - but if you want to convert an existing PDF into something with popups and flip effects you'll need to use one of the many online service providers (such as Yudu), Adobe doesn't offer it.

I have tried using the AIR appliaction and it worked, But our requirement is NO INSTALL to the user machine for the silent printing. It is just from web page and silent printing to the default printer to the desktop/Laptop. Can anyone share your thoughts and experience with us. It will be very helpful..

Did you either of you ever find a solution? I'm stuck too, it seems I can get remote printing on all these PDFs to work but it just prints a blank page since I've been using Javascript in the browser, not Adobe's (they are Engineering drawings that I do not have permission to edit so I can't just insert code into them but I need to make work instructions). I've been scouring the internet for hours now, it seems that this thread is the only relevant/useful one at this point. No one else was trying to achieve this for similar reasons to mine.

How can I print web pages with HP psc 2175 printer?

Hi,
I'm having difficulty printing web pages with my HP psc 2175 printer. The printer spits out many pages before the actual page I want printed and then at times it doesn't print all of the section desired.
In fact, when I copied one page the other day, saved it as a pdf file to my computer, opened the file and the document still would not print.
Anyone have any idea what could be happening?

I have a strange issue - I am also using HP Envy 100 410A and its prints fine from iPad2. But when I try to print from my Gen 1 iPad, it goes thru the motions (shows the printer, allows to select which pages to print, double sided print etc.) but the printing actually doesn't hapen.

Safari 4.0.3 hangs every time I try to print a web page to a pdf file.

Hi. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and whether or not they have found a fix for it. Every time I try to print a web page to a pdf file from Safari (v4.0.3 running under Snow Leopard 10.6.1), Safari hangs and I have to force quit the program. The pdf is saved successfully, but the browser hangs immediately after the file has been created.
The problem is very consistent - every time I try to print a web page to a pdf file, the browser hangs. Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks.

Try Safari maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Firefox won't allow me to print a Web Page. The only option I am given is to Save the Web Page as a PDF File .

In FF 16.0.1 when I try to print a web page I get dialog box to save it as PDF. There is no other choice in the ‘save as type’ box. I do not want to save it; I just want to print it. This happens whether I use ‘file/print’ or the print button on FF. I use Win XP and HP all in one C7280 and no changes have been made recently to either. I looked for FF add- on to disable called ‘hp smart web printer’ that I read about in a closed FF support thread about this same problem but it is not on plug-in or add-on list. I also read in another closed thread on this issue to remove SWP using add/remove programs but its not listed. I believe this problem began when FF upgraded itself to 16.0.1 recently. The problem does not exist when I use I.E. or Chrome so logically it must be a FF issue. Its driving me crazy and I cannot find a solution that works anywhere. HELP please.

The NAME of the printer showed 'document converter'. WELL DUH! That was the problem all along. I have no idea how it got changed but I won't dwell on it. I have never had to look at those 'choices' because I don't need to change anything when I print but its never too late to learn.

How can I print a web page to a hard copy with Adobe? When I print this particular page in the usual way it prints only the text of that page, not the photo that's also part of that page.

I have Adobe SendNow, but I can buy another Adobe product if it will solve my web page printing problem.

I understand that since upgrading your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to Mac OS X 10.10.4 you have been unable to print colour photos wirelessly from your HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this colour printing issue. To be honest, it does sound like Mac may have loaded the generic Apple Airprint driver on your printer rather then the HP Full Feature Software and Driver package. Should this be the case then you will only have basic print capabilities. Please follow the steps below to confirm that your HP Officejet is utilising the correct driver on your Mac.
1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences. 2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. 3. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer.  4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, 5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that the Officejet driver is selected and not the Airprint driver.
  6. Click Add to add the printer to the list.  Once your printer has been installed with the correct HP driver, please test printing a colour photo to confirm that the issue has been resolved. Thank you for the response. I tried to fix the problem with some of the suggestions on that page, but none seem to work. I believe that is the only website that I'm having that problem on. I got to fooling with it a bit more and when I highlight the whole page and select to print the selected area, it actually prints the whole page then, but it won't do it as a default. I guess I can just do it like that from now on, but I thought there would be something in the settings that I could have changed. Thanks again for the help.

The printer works fine with the Safari Browser and with woodprocessed files, but not with Firefox and web pages. Help please! It used to print fast with earlier versions of Firefox.

Hello and welcome to the Apple Discussions Forum.
I have hardly any experience with HP printers but since your posting has not been replied to yet I thought I'd offer some assistance.
With the printer status and ink levels working, it shows that you have a connection to the printer. So I would look at the issue being with the protocol being used for the print queue on the Mac.
Since you have XP and Vista working, I would check the printer queue configuration on either box. In XP, go to the Properties and select Ports. Click the Configure Port tab to view the connection. If you are using RAW, then this is known as HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. So if you are not sure what protocol was used before I would create another printer queue, this time selecting IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. Then enter your IP address and select the K5400dn from the Print Using menu.
If this still fails to print then please reply. There may be limitations with adding the HP driver this way that I am not aware of. There may also be other driver options you can look at, such as HPIJS. If Greg Sahli reads this posting he has expert knowledge on this matter and will be able to offer some guidance.
