PDF printing random white boxes

I sent my professional printer a high res pdf. The finished print had random white boxes that appear underneath some images. My Indesign file and pdf showed no problems. I was told by a designer that this can be corrected by the print house. Does anyone know the solution?

  • Adobe pdf printer save dialog box opens in the background - progress bar shows Not Responding

I have two users who have Acrobat X Pro version 10.1.4 that are experiencing the same things.  First, one person just changed laptops and the new one has a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise X64 image and new installation of Adobe Acrobat X Pro.  When he used the pdf printer for the first time(after opening the program and accepting the license agreement) he was in MS Excel '07 and chose file>print>Adobe PDF and then the progress bar came up and then showed not responding.  After he did this a couple of times with me standing there I noticed that the save dialog box was opening in the background because I could see the icon blinking on the taskbar.  He said that his old computer never did this and that it would always open up and ask where to save the file and never show 'not responding' on the progress bar.  The other person having the same issue is running the same version but she has had the program installed on her machine for a few months and an older version on before that.
Is there a way to make the dialog box show as soon as you print to the Adobe PDF printer?  What is causing this?  Is there another way to create a pdf from MS Office like the add-on?

  • Error in printing?  White boxes around text?

Right now I'm experencing a problem with printing in
Flashpaper. In my company we're converting brochures over into
Flashpaper as a test. Everything converts over smoothly until we do
a print test. What we're seeing in our print outputs is any area
that contains text on top of a image you'll get an white box around
the text. Although when you view the flashpaper on the monitor you
don't see that white box around the text. It appears that during
print process the text fields retain a white box and doesn't set it
    to be transparent.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? And is there a way
    around this?

    HI
Did you ever get any clue about this issue? I have the same
    problem or worse.

  • Interactive pdf has random black boxes appearing after video slides

I am using indesign cs6 and I have a document that is 52 pages long with images, text and vidoes that are flv files. I export the doc as an interactive pdf. I open the doc in Acrobat and it plays fine. The only issue is that after a video slide, A random black box, the same size as teh video element is appearing on the slide after the video.
Right in the middle. As if I have left the video element on the same slide.
Not sure if this is a ram issue or something I am missing. I have checked the slides after the videos and the elements are fine.
    Please help. Thank you all.

It's a long-time bug, doubt it'll ever be fixed. You can use Acrobat to change the annotation properties to 'disable when' = page is not visible, so the Flash Player instance is unloaded from the display stack - that usually helps. InDesign doesn't let you control that parameter.

  • Acrobat 7.0 PDF Printing with Black Boxes

When I print a PDF file, areas of the document and sometimes the entire document, prints as a big box of black ink. This happens when I print a document that I've created or one that someone else has created and sent to me. This happens if I'm printing a color document or black and white document. Other documents (Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) are printing fine. I checked with the printer manufacturer and they said it was an Acrobat issue.

Thanks I'm aware of that feature.
The bookmarks are there, but there aren't any pages. You have to click on the bookmark to display said page. There is a total of 30 documents (pages but we won't call them that as they are bookmarks). When you go to print you need to click on the bookmark/page you want to print, and it only recognises that page. Not the other 29 bookmarks.
My understanding/research on bookmarks indicates pages are needed. However this document is not showing that at, the bookmarks are treated as pages. As I did not create the document I wonder what the scandal is???

  • PDF prints with little boxes and question marks

I prepared a document in Microsoft Publisher 360 and created a pdf with creative cloud.
Looks great and prints great for me.
I emailed it to a few people and it looks great on their screens. However, when they print it,
it comes out with little boxes and question marks.
If I email them the publisher file it is fine.
How I can get them the PDF file without all the odd markings?

You probably used a font that is not on their system and did not embed the font in the PDF when you created it.  Don't feel bad.  We all have done it.  Just  make sure to embed your fonts in the Joboptions settings before you recreate the PDF.

  • White boxes appear around drop shadows in PDF's

I'm exporting a file from InDesign CS3 that contains several graphics that have a drop shadow applied to them (added in InDesign NOT Illustrator). When I view the PDF, there are white boxes that appear behind the graphics with the drop shadows. I need to use the 'Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)' setting from the PDF export dialogue box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Sometimes having drop shadows on images (imported) that have spot colors causes this. Converting them to process or RGB helps. I know that applies to imported graphics but it may apply to graphics created in InD sgn. Are your graphics set up in spot colors?

  • Pages Exports to PDF/Printer Saves as PDF with weird characters

This situation is getting worse for me, not better, the more I'm using Pages.
I have made several files, nothing special, just used Pages for layout and the ease of using colors and shapes.
When I Export as PDF, sometimes random text boxes end up having all spaces replaced with exclamation marks. Not always the same one, not always all of the text fields on my page, and so far, never the title. When I "Print to PDF," which used give me an error and say I had to export only but now works, I get the same error. Even a character I used 5 times on the page, the first 4 were fine and the 5th had turned to an exclamation mark. Just for kicks when I could not get my file to work last night, I exported to Word (looked fine) and then went to Save as PDF... same exclamation marks. Physically printing the files has no errors.
Last night I rebooted my MacBook and let it sit a bit and tried again, and both files I was trying to export came out fine. Other times this has happened though, my computer was neither warm nor a few hours from the last reboot.
Methinks that this is related to making PDFs on my computer, maybe that connection between printer driver and making PDFs, but it's also got to be Pages-related. Except for the file I exported to Word, I have no problems with Print to PDF for anything else- Word, Excel, web pages, etc. What should I check/do to try and diagnose the problem? Since the things I do in Pages are generally on a deadline, I need to be proactive about the solution. Rebooting is not going to save me every time.

It could be a font cache problem. You might try using a utility to clear the caches or try doing it by hand. Try a Google search on "clearing font caches" and Leopard, for example. I believe something like Onyx will do it though I haven't used that myself.
I'm not sure about this - it is just a hunch based on some things I've read about problems with Leopard and pdfTeX.

  • Acrobat PDF Printer Hangs in Windows 8

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise RTM  64-bit on an Intel i7-3770 3rd gen CPU, Z77 chipset. I've found that most PDF printers I have been using on Windows 7 now hang on 8, including the Acrobat X printer (latest version). I have found one free alternative that works fine, but would like to get back to using the Acrobat printer. Will Adobe be releasing an update that addresses the hang?
Above is a screenshot afterr more than ten minutes:

    Hello All
I have been struggling with this same problem of Printing to Acrobat PDF driver freezing up not only the print spooler, but also the software I was printing from, on Windows 7 64Bit, using both acrobat 9.4 and Acrobat X with the same freeze, stall lockup result.
I think this is the same problem you are having.
I found many questions about this online but no useful answers, and alot of fingerpointing trying to blame different programs and combinations of software.
The 1 solution, which created a PDF and did not freeze, was to switch of the choice of a saving location in the PDf driver and setting a fixed PDF save location instead of the ASK for location option.
This worked but was a real pain having to move and rename the file each time.
This got me thinking that there was actually nothing wrong with the PDF driver.
The problem seemed to be the user input to save the file to a certain location.
I then experimented and found that if I was fast enough with a file name, that the save to location option did not freeze up when creating the PDF.
By repeatedly trying to print and looking at the print dialog box I noticed that after a count of 5 seconds the Acrobat PDF print driver progress box greyed slightly (Asif loosing focus) and after that happened there was no hope of a successful PDF.
The 5second timer got me thinking about a windows timeout, rather than a PDF option.
    PDF Print Freeze Problem Solution:
Windows 7 64 bit (And I assume Windows 8 too) has a default program timeout of 5 seconds after which Windows considers a program to be NOT RESPONDING.
The time during which the PDF printer is waiting for a response from you for a save location, is seen as inactive by Windows and Windows decides that the Print driver has stalled.
Something then changes anough to effect the driver, and once the PDF print driver is allowed to carry on and save the PDF it can't anymore and stalls.
Solution is to edit the HungAppTimout in the Windows Registry, and set it to something like 20000 to 30000 = 20 to 30 seconds.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc978614.aspx (Info regarding the Registry Key)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeout
This then give you 20-30 seconds to select a save location for your PDF.
In my case (Windows 7 64bit) the Registry entry was missing.
I had to create it from scratch and reboot.
    If ENTRY IS MISSING:
Goto the folder in the registry
Right Click  - NEW - STRING VALUE
Name it exactly as above including CAPS: HungAppTimeout
Set the value to 20000 (For 20 seconds or more if you need it)
    Reboot Windows.
After that Printing to PDf with Acrobat works 100%.
Note this option also helped on my Windows XP PC.
I hope this prevents others from struggling as much as I did to fogure this out.
    Regards

  • Where can the log file be found after printing to the PDF printer?

Cannot locate the log file after printing to the Adobe PDF printer.  The box was unchecked for delete log file after successful print.  Running Adobe Acrobat X Standard (v10.0.0) on a windows 2008 R2 server.

There is usually no log file when the conversion succeeds. Only in certain cases are their warning or information messages, usually of little interest.

  • White Box Replaces Imported Logo

Hi, I have a 4 page brochure, that when I print the following happens:
    1. Only 1 of many imported logo prints as a white box
    2. some content doesn't print
    3. an item (north arrow) from my library, prints a white box
    4. the 4th page doesn't print.
    Brochure built in CS3.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Barb

I think the info needed is something like this
You OS and system info, the type of print device you are printing to and also what type of files are imported into your indesign file.
You can make a copy of your file and start removing items one at a time until you figure out which item is causing the issue.
Once you have it narrowed down to the item that causes the problem then you can either go out and resave that item in its native program or resave it in another manner.
For example:  Your offending item is an EPS file created with Illustrator.  Go and resave the file in Illustrator (use a new name for it), and then import the new file in and see if that fixes the issue.  If not open the eps with photoshop and resave as a tiff or PSD if you need transparancy.  Not the best idea to rasterize a file with photoshop, but it may get you around your issue.

  • Printing PDFs results in random white blocks

    Hey,
Got a really perplexing problem that only happens when I print pdfs, whether through the reader or online. Theres random blocks of white, where the printer hasn't printed anything. I print it again, same problem, same random white blocks in same places. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing it? I'd greatly appreciate any advice!
    Thanks,

Can you please tell what type of printer you are using and and also the type of pdf you are trying to print?

  • PDF Print, white background?

When I export my .indd doc to a PDF (Print) it looks great. But when I print it out, some text has a white background and my drop shadows turn white. This is resolved by exporting to PDF (Interactive) but I intend to print this doc and want it to be the highest quality!

  • Exported pdf prints black boxed

I exported a booklet from indesign to pdf. It looks perfect on screen but when I print the exported pdf i get black boxes, they are not random, they are always at the same spot on the different pages. When I export again, they appear at  different spot but still on every page at the same spot
Any ideas? I am getting frustrated.

    Hi all,
Back again (had to step out to lunch--I was starving!) And boy, it sure is hot & muggy here in Dallas!
Hey Rob, to answer your question, I've compiled the details below:
    1) I've opened/printed the PDF in Acrobat Pro 8.1.3, printed to both Ricoh 2510 and Epson SP3800, and got beautiful results.
    2) I've opened/printed the PDF in Reader 9.1.1, printed to both Ricoh 2510 and Epson SP3800, same great results.
    3) My setup is: MacPro; OSX 10.5.6; Adobe CS3 (all updates for all apps); the two printers outlined above.
As a control, I also printed the InDesign file, but of course that printed great as expected. What's more, on all the PDF prints, I examined them under a loupe, and for the Ricoh output, there is absolutely no sign of screening or dot, and the rules for the musical bars, notes, etc., are superbly rendered black rules. The inkjet output under a loupe shows solid blacks and again no sign of "lightening".
Interestingly enough, even at using different settings in the print dialogue of both Reader and Acrobat, I couldn't even reproduce the 'poor quality' output described. I guess that's a good thing, though, eh? That would lead me to think that whoever downloads the PDFs will have a good chance of getting good results, too. I used the default print settings in both Reader and Acrobat, and of course the correct print driver for the respective devices. I just hit the "Print" button without making any changes.
I'm stumped now, since I can't see the results you guys are seeing, and MY results seem to be the ideal expected output. Hmmm... I'm wondering if it could be an application/driver update issue on Jeffrey's end?
Keep posting if you find out what could be your issue, and hope my experiments help shed some light on the issue!
    Cheers!
    Mikey

  • Replacing Graphics w/ White Boxes For Printing?

    Hey!
Is it possible to replace graphics/images with white boxes when exporting/printing? Using the "Omit for OPI" option produces black boxes - even worse for saving ink!
    Thanks and Merry Christmas!
    Lars

You can use the Attributes panel to make individual items non-printing or you can put them all one one non-printing layer. When you print proofs or make proof PDFs for the client you can include non-pri ting objects. Turn that option off for the final output/PDF.
